    We have some applications that are being worked upon in .Net 2.0 since long back. I'm recommending my team to move the base from .net 2.0 to .net 3.5sp1 and focus and leverage from C# 3.0 but I'm facing difficulties in doing so. What are the implications of not migrating to .net 3.5 and C# 3.0 ? What are your experiences on this front and what tactics did you use to successfully migrate your team and projects to .net3.5.

    Is there any way to export a Microsoft SQL Server database to an sql script? I'm looking for something which behaves similarly to mysqldump, taking a database name, and producing a single script which will recreate all the tables, stored procedures, reinsert all the data etc. I've seen http://vyaskn.tripod.com/code.htm#inserts, but I ideally want something to recreate everything (not just the data) which works in a single step to produce the final script.

    Hi: We have a windows MFC app that is written against an access database on a company server. The db is not that big: 19 MB. There are at most 2-3 users accessing it at any one time. It is used in a factory environment where access speed (or lack thereof) over the intranet becomes noticeable as it is part of the manufacturing time for our widgets. The scenario is this: as each widget is completed, it gets a record in the db.. by the end of the year, the db is larger and searching for a record takes longer and longer. The solution so far has been to manually move older records to an archival table about once a year. We are reworking other portions of this app right now, and it would be a good time to move to another db if we are going to do it. It is my understanding that if we were using sql, the search time would not go up as the table gets bigger because the entire .mdb does not have to be sent over the network each time. Is this correct? Does anyone have any insight about whether it could be worth it to go to the trouble (time and money) of migrating to a new db, or should I just add more functionality to the application we have now, and maybe automatically purge the older records from time to time, and add additional facilities to the app to get at the older records when needed?     For some reason, out of no where, rails began giving me an error on "rake db:migrate", and I can no longer run migrations. It returns the error "no such file to load -- spec /home/ti/rails_apps/appname/Rakefile:10" I've spent two hours searching google for answers, trying to figure this out, but to no avail. What could be the problem?     Hello, I have 2 databases, one is MS Access DB from an old website, and the other one is MYSQL from the new Joomla+VirtueMart based website. I need to migrate existing products from MS Access to MYSQL. I thought of putting both on server and writing SQL queries in MYSQL workbench, untill I have a good script for that, but I'm very new to SQL, so I'd rather avoid that. I there a better way and more efficient for that?

  • Problem with session based login after moving relevent files to site root

    Hello I have a site which I have been testing in a sub-folder of my clients site-root. I had no log in problems during testing, but then I moved the new site files from a sub-directory to the main site root, and now I'm losing my logged in state after almost every page refresh in secure areas. I am running a $_session based login system that refreshes the session id on every page load, with a comparison value stored in the MySQL database. Does anyone have suggestions for what could be causing this problem?

    Hello, I have to migrate this query (simplified here) from T-SQL to ORACLE SET IDENTITY_INSERT table ON INSERT INTO table (id, value) VALUES (1, 2) SET IDENTITY_INSERT table OFF id being an Identity field in SQLServer. I have the same table with a sequence in ORACLE, I couldn't find a snippet that shows how to disable the sequence and set it to start again with the MAX(id) + 1.     I'm starting a conversion of a system from MS SQL Server to Postgres. I have the table structures converted, and I use "bcp" to get the data out of SQL Server. ERROR: invalid byte sequence for encoding "UTF8": 0x80 HINT: This error can also happen if the byte sequence does not match the encoding expected by the server, which is controlled by "client_encoding". CONTEXT: COPY cm_outgoing, line 200: "200 c:\temp\200.xml 2009-10-10 01:50:44.000 1900-01-01 00:00:00.000" I've already used "sed" to get rid of the NUL (0x00) entries in the file, and I can't find any instances of 0x80 in the file that I'm trying to import. Any thoughts? Is there an easier way?

  • Git svn - no changes, no branches (except master), rebase/info is not working

    I know that similar questions were asked before, but I think my is a little bit different, so please don't point me to existing threads. I'm migrating our old svn repo to git. I did git svn clone path --authors-file abc.txt and everything seemend legit to me. Then I did git remote add origin xyz and git push --all origin and it also worked. I created this repo as test one, with only me having access to both local repo and origin. No changes were made in project held on this repo, nothing to commit, no pushing and so on. There is also only one branch, because someone initialized svn years ago without creating proper folder structure (branches, trunk, tags). Meanwhile someone pushed their work to svn, so I tried to git svn fetch (which worked), and git svn rebase which didn't, giving me error: Unable to determine upstream SVN information from working tree history Is there any reason why git svn decided to stop working?

I There is a shell script here to convert a general MySQL dump to SQLite, but it didn't work for me (apparently the general problem isn't easy).     hello, i have a very complicated problem that i would like to share with you and maybe someone can answer it for me. before i start i have to say that i am very new in this. So, i have a coredata iphone app (much like the recipes app) that uses a pre-populated sql database. The user can add/edit his own data but the default data cannot be deleted. the useres data are ALL saved in the same sql database. QUESTION: what do i have to do in order to: - update some (not all) of the default data that are stored in the sql database without "touching" the user's data? (the model will stay the same - no new entities etc-) (if the user uninstall the app and then reinstall the new version everything will be ok but i dont want to do this, obviously). can someone PLEASE help in coding level?
