  • Does Visual Studio 2010 support something like Eclipse's "Generate delegate methods"?

    Eclipse allows us to define a class as: interface MyInterface { void methodA(); int methodB(); } class A : MyInterface { MyInterface myInterface; } and then with this "Generate delegate methods", it will implement all needed methods for the interface, redirecting their logic to myInterface's methods: class A : MyInterface { MyInterface myInterface; public void methodA() { myInterface.methodA(); } public int methodB() { return myInterface.methodB(); } } Is it possible to accomplish the same with VS2010? And with R#? Thanks

  • Error in value of default parameter [Bug in Visual C++ 2008?]

    I am facing following issue while trying to use template in my code I have some C++ code which i call from C functions. Problem is I am getting different values in the following code for statement 1 and 2.   • Cannot create a project TFS 2012 - TF218027

    I've just installed TFS2012 and am trying to create a new project in the default collection via Visual Studio 2012 but I keep getting this error message: TF218027: The following reporting folder could not be created on the server that is running SQL Server Reporting Services: /TfsReports/DefaultCollection. The report server is located at: http://<servername>/Reports. The error is: The permissions granted to user '<domain>/grandmasterflush' are insufficient for performing this operation.. Verify that the path is correct and that you have sufficient permissions to create the folder on that server and then try again. I've checked the permissions and my user is a member of the Project Collection Administrators and the Project Collection Administrators group has the 'Create new project' permission set to allow. The only thing I think it might be is that the user that I created during installation for the Sharepoint access and reports viewing does not have permission to write to the reports folder, however if I select "Do not configure a SharePoint site at this time" then I still get the error messages. I can't find the reports folder to check the permissions either. TFS is using an instance of SQL 2012 that was already on the machine when TFS was installed. Can anyone see what I'm doing wrong please?

  • It&rsquo;s A Team Sport: PASS Board Year 2, Q3

    As I type this I’m on an airplane en route to my 12th PASS Summit. It’s been a very busy 3.5 months since my last post on my work as a Board member. Nearing the end of my 2-year term I am struck by how much has happened, and yet how fast the time has gone. But I’ll save the retrospective post for next time and today focus on what happened in Q3. In the last three months we made progress on several fronts, thanks to the contributions of many volunteers and HQ staff members. They deserve our appreciation for their dedication to delivering for the membership week after week. Virtual Chapters The Virtual Chapters continue to provide many PASS members with valuable free training. Between July and September of 2013 VCs hosted over 50 webinars with a total of 4300 attendees. This quarter also saw the launch of the Security & Global Russian VCs. Both are off to a strong start and I welcome these additions to the Virtual Chapter portfolio. At the beginning of 2012 we had 14 Virtual Chapters. Today we have 22. This growth has been exciting to see. It has also created a need to have more volunteers help manage the work of the VCs year-round. We have renewed focus on having Virtual Chapter Mentors work with the VC Leaders and other volunteers. I am grateful to volunteers Julie Koesmarno, Thomas LeBlanc and Marcus Bittencourt who join original VC Mentor Steve Simon on this team. Thank you for stepping up to help. Many improvements to the VC web sites have been rolling out over the past few weeks. Our marketing and IT teams have been busy working a new look-and-feel, features and a logo for each VC. They have given the VCs a fresh, professional look consistent with the rest of the PASS branding, and all VCs now have a logo that connects to PASS and the particular focus of the chapter. 24 Hours of PASS The Summit Preview edition  of 24HOP was held on July 31 and by all accounts was a success. Our first use of the GoToWebinar platform for this event went extremely well. Thanks to our speakers, moderators and sponsors for making this event possible. Special thanks to HQ staffers Vicki Van Damme and Jane Duffy for a smoothly run event. Coming up: the 24HOP Portuguese Edition will be held November 13-14, followed December 12-13 by the Spanish Edition. Thanks to the Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking community volunteers who are organizing these events. July Board Meeting The Board met July 18-19 in Kansas City. The first order of business was the election of the Executive Committee who will take office January 1. I was elected Vice President of Marketing and will join incoming President Thomas LaRock, incoming Executive Vice President of Finance Adam Jorgensen and Immediate Past President Bill Graziano on the Exec Co. I am honored that my fellow Board members elected me to this position and look forward to serving the organization in this role. Visit to PASS HQ In late September I traveled to Vancouver for my first visit to PASS HQ, where I joined Tom LaRock and Adam Jorgensen to make plans for 2014.  Our visit was just a few weeks before PASS Summit and coincided with the Board election, and the office was humming with activity. I saw first-hand the enthusiasm and dedication of everyone there. In each interaction I observed a focus on what is best for PASS and our members. Our partners at HQ are key to the organization’s success. This week at PASS Summit is a great opportunity for all of us to remember that, and say “thanks.” Next Up PASS Summit—of course! I’ll be around all week and look forward to connecting with many of our member over meals, at the Community Zone and between sessions. In the evenings you can find me at the Welcome Reception, Exhibitor’s Reception and Community Appreciation Party. And I will be at the Board Q&A session  Friday at 12:45 p.m. Transitions The newly elected Exec Co and Board members take office January 1, and the Virtual Chapter portfolio is transitioning to a new director. I’m thrilled that Jen Stirrup will be taking over. Jen has experience as a volunteer and co-leader of the Business Intelligence Virtual Chapter and was a key contributor to the BI VCs expansion to serving our members in the EMEA region. I’ll be working closely with Jen over the next couple of months to ensure a smooth transition.

  • Team Leaders & Authors - Manage and Report Workflow using "Print an Outline" in UPK

    Did you know you can "print an outline?" You can print any outline or portion of an outline. Why might you want to "print an outline" in UPK... Have you ever wondered how many topics you have recorded, how many of your topics are ready for review, or even better, how many topics are complete! Do you need to report your project status to management? Maybe you just like to have a copy of your outline to refer to during development. Included in this output is the outline structure as well as the layout defined in the Details View of the Outline Editor. To print an outline, you must open either a module or section in the Outline Editor. A set of default data columns is automatically included in the output; however, you can configure which columns you want to appear in the report by switching to the Details view and customizing the columns. (To learn more about customizing your columns refer to the Add and Remove Columns section of the Content Development.pdf guide) To print an outline from the Outline Editor: 1. Open a module or section document in the Outline Editor. 2. Expand the documents to display the details that you want included in the report. 3. On the File menu, choose Print and use the toolbar icons to print, view, or save the report to a file. Personally, I opt to save my outline in Microsoft Excel. Using the delivered features of Microsoft Excel you can add columns of information, such as development notes, to your outline or you can graph and chart your Project status. As mentioned above you can configure what columns you want to appear in the outline. When utilizing the Print an Outline feature in conjunction with the Managing Workflow features of the UPK Multi-user instance you as a Team Lead or Author can better report project status. Read more about Managing Workflow below. Managing Workflow: The Properties toolpane contains special properties that allow authors to track document status or State as well as assign Document Ownership. Assign Content State The State property is an editable property for communicating the status of a document. This is particularly helpful when collaborating with other authors in a development team. Authors can assign a state to documents from the master list defined by the administrator. The default list of States includes (blank), Not Started, Draft, In Review, and Final. Administrators can customize the list by adding, deleting or renaming the values. To assign a State value to a document: 1. Make sure you are working online. 2. Display the Properties toolpane. 3. Select the document(s) to which you want to assign a state. Note: You can select multiple documents using the standard Windows selection keys (CTRL+click and SHIFT+click). 4. In the Workflow category, click in the State cell. 5. Select a value from the list. Assign Document Ownership In many enterprises, multiple authors often work together developing content in a team environment. Team leaders typically handle large projects by assigning specific development responsibilities to authors. The Owner property allows team leaders and authors to assign documents to themselves and other authors to track who is responsible for a specific document. You view and change document assignments for a document using the Owner property in the Properties toolpane. To assign a document owner: 1. Make sure you are working online. 2. On the View menu, choose Properties. 3. Select the document(s) to which you want to assign document responsibility. Note: You can select multiple documents using the standard Windows selection keys (CTRL+click and SHIFT+click). 4. In the Workflow category, click in the Owner cell. 5. Select a name from the list. We appreciate your eagerness and willingness to jump in and help us accomplish all of our goals here at acme (these roadrunner rockets don’t make themselves). You may have noticed that we have this thing called SharePoint lying around and we have invested some time in money to make it not a complete piece of garbage. So, I thought I’d give you some pointers to help make your stay here enjoyable and productive. Yeah… you don’t really know SharePoint Just because you had a mysite at your last organization or had a SharePoint 2003 team site does NOT mean you comprehend the vastness that is SharePoint. You don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. You don’t know what should and should not be done. No, we CAN’T just query the SQL database directly. Yes, it really does take that long. No, we can’t do that out-of-the-box. Your experience doesn’t mean as much as you think it means… Yes, I’m aware that you co-created the internet with Al Gore and have been managing projects since I was blowing up GI Joe figures with firecrackers, however SharePoint is not like anything you have worked with before from a management perspective. Please don’t tell us the proper way to do our job or tell us how “you” would do it, and PLEASE don’t utter the words “I used to do some .NET development so let me know if you get stuck and need some guidance.” It MAY be possible for a incredible project manager to manage a SharePoint project and not understand the technology, but if you force your ideas on us or treat us like we don’t really know what we’re doing then you will prove yourself to NOT be one of those types. Oh no you didn’t… Please don’t tell us how you can bring in a group of guys of Kazakhstan to do the project for $20/hr. There are many companies out there who can do some really crappy SharePoint work and we don’t want to be stuck maintaining their junk. Do you know what it means to deploy a solution? Neither do some of those companies out there. However, there are are few AWESOME consulting firms out there but $150/hr is cheap for these guys. Believe me, it’s worth it though. You get what you pay for! Show us some respect We truly do appreciate and value your opinion and experience, but when we tell you something is different in SharePoint don’t be condescending and dismiss OUR experience and opinions. We have spent a lot of time and energy learning a very complicated technology that can open up a world of possibilities when used properly. We just want to make sure it is used properly. It’s not the same as .NET development. It’s not like a regular web application. There’s more going on behind the scenes than you can possibly fathom. Have a little faith in us please and listen when we talk. You may actually learn a thing or two. Take some time to learn the technology There is hope… you don’t have to be totally worthless. Take some time to learn SharePoint. Learn what it is and what it can do. Invest some time in learning our SharePoint environment. What’s our logical architecture and taxonomy? What governance do we have in place? If you just thought “huh?” then yes, I’m talking to you. Sincerely, Your SharePoint Team (This rant is not pointed at any particular organization or person.   • How do I create an encrypted file system inside a file?

    Recently i've found this interesting tutorial: http://flossstuff.wordpress.com/2011/08/07/using-a-file-as-a-storage-device/ It explains how to create an empty file, format it as ext4, and mount it as a device. I'd like to know if it can be created as an encrypted ext4 file system. I've tried using palimpsest (the disk utility found in System menu) to format the already created file system but it doesn't works as it detects the file system being used. If I try to unmount the file system, it won't work neither because it doesn't detect the device (since it's not a real device like a hardrive or a usb drive). So my question is, is there an option to create the file system encrypted from the begining? I've used these commands: Create an empty file 200Mb size: dd if=/dev/zero of=/path/to/file bs=1M count=200 Make it ext4: mkfs -t ext4 file Mount it in a folder inside my home: sudo mount -o loop file /path/to/mount_point Is there any way the mkfs command creates the ext4 encrypted asking for a decryption password? I'm planing to use this as a way to encrypt files inside Dropbox. Thanks for your time.

  • Is there such thing as a "theory of system integration"?

    There is a plethora of different programs, servers, and in general technologies in use in organizations today. We, programmers, have lots of different tools at our disposal to help solve various different data, and communication challenges in an organization. Does anyone know if anyone has done an serious thinking about how systems are integrated? Let me give an example: Hypothetically, let's say I own a company that makes specialized suits a'la Iron Man. In the area of production, I have CAD tools, machining tools, payroll, project management, and asset management tools to name a few. I also have nice design space, where designers show off their designs on big displays, some touch, some traditional. Oh, and I also have one of these new fangled LEED Platinum buildings and it has number of different computer controlled systems, like smart window shutters that close when people are in the room, a HVAC system that adjusts depending on the number of people in the building, etc. What I want to know is if anyone has done any scientific work on trying to figure out how to hook all these pieces together, so that say my access control system is hooked to my payroll system, and my phone system allowing my never to swipe a time card, and to have my phone follow me throughout the building. This problem is also more than a technology challenge. Every technology implementation enables certain human behaviours, so the human must also be considered as a part of the system. Has anyone done any work in how effectively weave these components together? FYI: I am not trying to build a system. I want to know if anyone has thoroughly studied the process of doing a large integration project, how they develop their requirements, how they studied the human behaviors, etc.

  • Problems with MembershipUser / System.Web.ApplicationServices when upgrading to .net 4

    I have a large vb.net web project that I am trying to updgrade to .net4/VS2010. During compile I get the following error: 'System.Web.Security.MembershipUser' in assembly 'System.Web, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' has been forwarded to assembly 'System.Web.ApplicationServices'. Either a reference to 'System.Web.ApplicationServices' is missing from your project or the type 'System.Web.Security.MembershipUser' is missing from assembly 'System.Web.ApplicationServices'. I researched the issue and the error is accurate. I added a reference to System.Web.ApplicationServices but I am still having problems. The project does not seem to recognize that the reference has been added. Intellisense will not pick it up, I can not use it in an Import statement, etc ... The assembly is listed in the compile section of my web.config: <assemblies> ... <add assembly="System.Web.ApplicationServices, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/> </assemblies> Any ideas?

  • Server.transfer causing HttpException

    I am developing a C#/SQL ASP.NET web application in VS 2008. Currently I am using the Server.Transfer method to transfer control from one ASPX.CS file to another ASPX file. The first time through, this works. But after control is transferred to this new file it encounters a condition: if (restart == false) { where "restart" is a boolean variable. After this statement it immediately transfers control back to the same ASPX.CS file and tries to reexecute the Server.Transfer method. This time it gives me the following exception and stack trace.   • Win7 System folder contains infinitely looping SYSTEM(!) directory

    My Windows 7 Enterprise computer has been crashing fairly frequently recently, so I decided to boot up in safe mode and run the TrendMicro client I have installed. It froze about 10 minutes into the full system scan, so in the spirit of http://whathaveyoutried.com, I started scanning each folder individually. When I got to ProgramData, the AV failed with an uncaught exception. I then went down a level and tried scanning Application Data, which failed as well. Imagine my surprise when I open the folder just to see the same folder again! As far as I can tell, this folder loop continues indefinitely. (If you are trying to recreate this, keep in mind that ProgramData is a hidden folder.) I'm actually a bit concerned that these are system folders, as this is a brand-new computer with a clean installation. I guess I have three questions: Has anyone else seen/experienced this before? I'm running Win7 SP1. How do I fix this? I've run CHKDSK \F with no success (although it was incredibly slow). What are the ramifications of an infinitely recursive directory? Theoretically speaking, each link takes up memory, so shouldn't I have no space available on my hard drive? (I've got about 180GB left.) I noticed that the tree view on the left only shows the "linked folder" icon on the deeper folders--does this mean anything special? (I've circled the icons or lack thereof in red.) How can the OS even resolve this aberration? And above all, what would happen if I were to select "Expand all folders"??? :P Matt

  • System x3550 M2 stuck on system initializing after firmware upgrades

    Hey guys so i have been having this major issue for the last few hours now. I have a system x 3550M2 server and i ran the UEFI and IMM firmware upgrades within windows server 2008 R2 x64. All upgrades went fine and i was told to reboot. I performed the reboot cleanly using the OS restart option. Upon restarting it showed the system initializing screen and it stayed there for a good hour. After that hour i figured it froze and so i powered down and power up again. Now i can not boot back up to even see the IBM splash screen or the OS... I have tried switching the Jumpers to go to the backup UEFI and backup IMM and no luck. I have also reset the CMOS power and i have pressed the reset button 3 times on the light path and no luck. There are no lights light on the light path to indicate anything is broken. The only thing i see on the light path is the number 0.5. Any ideas guys i am quite stumped with this problem. Thanks a lot, Dani Cela

    I am using Dell Studio 1558 laptop. Originally it was having windows 7 64 bit Home edition but than i upgraded my system to Windows 7 32 bit Professinal edition. The problem i am facing due to this is that my system is not detecting bluetooth adapter. When i install 64 bit(windows 7)/32(windows vista) bit drivers for Bluetooth it detects the Adapter but only sometimes and much of the times it doesnt. I am not able to find drivers for Windows 7 32bit professional edition and thus not able to detect bluetooth adapter.

    I'm attempting to install Visual Studio 2008 Professional from an ISO file downloaded from the msdn site, using DAEMON Tools Lite to Mount. On installation I'm getting the following error: Setup has encountered a problem while trying to copy: F:\Setup\VSSetupWatson\DW20.EXE I've had a look online for a solution and was recommended to reboot my system, however this has not helped. Why is this happening and how can I resolve the setup error?

    I just got some 20Gb of data in a Visual FoxPro database with a custom frontend probably written in the same framework, and need to extract that data in any well-known format. I don't know anything about VFP in particular, but as it is SQL, there should be a way of opening an SQL console, or maybe an vfpdump utility. How can I do that? Everything I have now are a bunch of obscure binary files and a frontend executable.

    I'm trying to configure Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 remote debugging and ran into issue: while connecting to remote computer running MSVSMON, client computer sends SYN request for connection. It makes it under the System process (as I see it in TCPView). As every network apps should be configured to use proxy in our network, I'm trying to add devenv.exe to proxification rules to make its traffic goes thru LAN's proxy server. It doesn't help. So my question is how can I make that low-level-system traffic will go through local area network proxy server?

  • Region highlighting in Visual Studio 2010

    Guys, feature in new release of Visual Studio which is block/region highlighting, I think is quite useless, and definitely frustrating when every time my cursor passes this line my whole region is being highlighted. Does anyone of you feel the same way and if not do you find this usefull for anything? Because I can't.
