  • How do I handle the messages for a simple web-based live chat, on the server side?

    I'm building a simple live chat into a web application running on Django, but one thing I'm confused about is how I should store the messages between users. The chat will support multiple users, and a chat "session" is composed of users connected to one user that is the "host." The application is a sort of online document collaboration thing, so user X has a document, and users Y and Z would connect to user X to talk about the document, and that would be one chat session. If user Y disconnected for five minutes, and then signed back in and reconnected to user X, he should not get any of the messages shared between users X and Z while he was away. if users X, Y, and Z can have a chat session about user X's document, then users X and Y can connect to a simultaneous, but separate discussion about user Z's document. How should I handle this? Should I keep each message in the database? Each message would have an owner user and a target user (the host), and a separate table would be used to connect users with messages (which messages are visible to what users). Or should I store each session as an HTML file on the server, which messages get appended to? The problem is, I can't just send messages directly between clients. They have to be sent to the server in a POST request, and then each client has to periodically check for the messages in a GET request. Except I can't just have each message cleared after a client fetches it, because there could be multiple clients. How should I set this up? Any suggestions?

  • In Node.JS, how do I return an entire object from a separate .js file?

    Thanks for looking. I am new to Node.js and trying to figure out how to request an object from a separate file (rather than just requesting a function) but everything I try--exports,module-exports,etc--is failing. So, for example, if I have foo.js: var methods = { Foobar:{ getFoo: function(){return "foo!!";}, getBar: function(){return "bar!!";} } }; And now I want to call a function within an object of foo.js from index.js: var m = require('./Methods'); function fooMain(){ return m.Foobar.getFoo(); }; How do I do this? I have tried all sorts of combinations of exports and module-exports but they seem to only work if I call a discrete function that is not part of an object. Thanks!

  • How to remove dangerous characters(ie script tags)?

    I am wondering is there any sort of C# class or 3rd party library that removes dangerous characters such as script tags? I know you can use regex but I also know people can write their script tags so many ways that you can fool the regex into thinking it is OK. I also heard that HTML Agility Pack is good so I am wondering is there any script removal class made for it?

  • $().buttonset not working on dialog modal box JQUERY

    Hello everyone! I've done a dialog box that contains a form inside it, and I would like to add some jquery fancy items to it. I've been trying with $().buttonset() as I've done with most of my radio buttons in the application, in order to get a coherent IU for my application. The thing is that, even if following the rules specified, the buttons remain as a normal radio button, and not with the fancy interface. Do you know what could be the problem? This is the part of the form where I want the fancy radio buttons: <div id ="Replace"> <input type="radio" name="Replace" value = "true" id = "ReplaceYes" onclick = "setReplace(this)" /> <label for="ReplaceYes">Yes</label> <input type="radio" name="Replace" value = "false" checked="checked" id = "ReplaceNo" onclick = "setReplace(this)" /> <label for="ReplaceNo">No</label> </div> And then, as the previous part of code is in a partial view, invoked when showing the modal box, this is how I try to convert the buttons appearance: $("#Replace").buttonset(); The thing is that, debugging it I've seen that it goes through that part of the code, but it doesn't do what it's meant to do.   • Moving Multiple Divs With Same Class Inside Parent

    So, My website is hosted on enjin.com and when you give users a tag with an image it appears on the forums under their name, however it's a vertical list with the tag names. I want to organize it so all of the tag images appear on one line and all of the tag names appear on a horizontal list below it. They use div tags somewhat like this <div class="tag"> <div class="tag-image"></div> <!-- If the tag lacks an image this is excluded --> <div class="tag-text">Tag Name</div> <!-- If you want the name to be hidden this is excluded --> </div> They then pretty much repeat this for every tag. Somewhat the same thing is used for forum posts too. So, I want to move all the tag-image divs together on a single line and all of the tag-text divs down and give each it's own line. I only want to move them within their parent element (to avoid images/tags from one forum user from going to another). I know how to append things with jquery and have googled how to move elements around, but I'm afraid that they're all going to end up together under another user's avatar.

  • Window parent not working in IE 8

    I have a parent page and a child page. By using window.opener.parent property,I am able to read the parent page content and display it in the child page.(There is a PREVIEW button on parent page,on click of which the child page opens up as a popup and displays the content of parent page controls.) This functionality was working fine in IE7/Mozilla/IE6 but I am unable to locate why its not workin with IE8. Can anyone please help?

    Hi, i'm using the JQUERY multiselectable plugin. Because it's get one select box and transform it in two, where you can move one selected option to another select box. The problem is that i'm facing some problems with the edit action. When i load the form, the selected values (that are saved in my model) are not being populated in the "selected" select box. There is anybody with a good idea about how to "automatically" move the selected values in my database from the "available to be selected" to "selected" options? For now i'm doing something like <%= select "product", :option_ids, options_for_select(Option.all.map { |opt| [opt.description, opt.id]}), {},{:multiple=> true,:class=>'multiselect'} %> Here i can see already the problem. I could just use as options_for_select just all options - the options that are already choosed in my model. The problem is how to update the select box with this information?

    HI, i am using the following code to show a link which is inside the li element. the constrain is, once the mouse enter into li element, and if it's stay inside 3sec, then it need to show. once i leave from li element, immateriality it should hide. for this, i am using : var showTimeOut; var thisElement $('.user-list li').live('mouseover',function(){ thisElement = $(this).children('a.copier-link'); showTimeOut = setInterval(function(){ thisElement.css({'display':'block'}); },3000); }) $('.user-list li').live('mouseleave',function(){ clearInterval(showTimeOut); thisElement.hide(); }) It's work fine. But the problem is, while i cross the li element with just a second, even the interval is calling, and showing the link. but i need to show only, if i stay inside 3sec and it need to hide there after, again i stay back 3sec. anything wrong with my code?, else any one give me the best suggestion?     I have a wysiwyg editor using the HTML 5 drag-drop api to allow the user to place widgets within the page they are editing. When the OnDrop event fires, I prevent the default event, and insert some html within the editor that represents the widget they inserted. I use execCommand("inserthtml", false, html) for this in Firefox. This works fine in IE, but in Firefox the html is not placed in the location where it was dropped. It always gets placed in the location where the previous selection was, which leads me to believe that cancelling the OnDrop event to override the default drop also cancels the selection change. Any ideas on how to solve this? Thanks!

    I am trying to use Chrome Dev for debugging the following Angular post request : $http.post("http://picjboss.puma.lan:8880/fluxpousse/api/flow/createOrUpdateHeader", flowHeader) After running the statement with right-click / evaluate, I can see the post in the network panel with a pending state. How can I get the result or "commit" the request and leave easily this "pending" state from the dev console ? I am not yet very familiar with JS callbacks, some code is expected. Thanks.   • function returns after an XMLHttpRequest

    Alright, I know questions like this have probably been asked dozens of times, but I can't seem to find a working solution for my project. Recently, while using jQuery for a lot of AJAX calls, I've found myself in a form of callback hell. Whether or not jQuery is too powerful for this project is beyond the scope of this question. So basically here's some code that shows what's going on: function check_form(table) { var file = "/models/"+table+".json"; var errs = {}; var xhr = $.getJSON(file, function(json) { for (key in json) { var k = key; var r = json[k]; $.extend(errs, check_item("#"+k,r)); } }); return errs; } And... as you can probably guess, I get an empty object returned. My original idea was to use some sort of onReadyStateChange idea that would return whenever the readyState had finally hit 4. This causes my application to hang indefinitely, though. I need these errors to decide whether or not the form is allowed to submit or not (as well as to tell the user where the errors are in the application. Any ideas? Edit. It's not the prettiest solution, but I've managed to get it to work. Basically, check_form has the json passed to it from another function, instead of loading it. I was already loading it there, too, so it's probably best that I don't continue to load the same file over and over again anyways. I was just worried about overloading memory. These files aren't absolutely huge, though, so I guess it's probably okay.

  • Use JS to add characters into textfield

    I want to add a $ symbol before a users entry into a text field without actually submitting the $ when the user clicks submit. Additionally, I need to prohibit the user from entering anything but numerical values in to the text input. I know about the JQuery input mask (http://www.conetrees.com/2009/03/blog/jquery-masked-input-plugin-increase-usability-for-masked-format-input-fields) but this plugin requires you to set the exact number of digits/letters that the user is supposed to enter, which is no good for my current project. Can anyone think of a way to accomplish what I have described above?
