• Nhibernate Criteria Ignore Child Collection

  I have a simple one to many association in my model. The parent class has a collection of children. In the mapping files, the association is a one to many, eager-loaded, using fetchmode.join. This works fine, but how can I write a criteria query but NOT trigger the loading of the child collection? In other words, I want to query the parent and not have it generate the join in the resulting sql. I tried setting the fetch mode to lazy, but in that case Nhibernate generates two separate queries. I don't want the table for child queried at all.

• Open source iPhone components? Reusable views, controllers, buttons, table cells, etc?

  Are there any repositories around for open sourced iPhone components? For instance, I have found myself needing to create several new types of table cells to mimic some of Apple's existing functionality (for instance, all the different types of table cells present in the Settings application). I can't imagine I'm alone here. Where do you go to find open sourced reusable components, or do you just write and hoard your own? Update: I know there are open source full projects around (see this question), but rummaging through them and picking and choosing still leads to significant duplication of effort. • Drawing RAW buffer to CGBitmapContext

  Hi all, I have a raw image buffer in the RGB format. I need to draw it to CGContext so that I get a new buffer of the format ARGB. I accomplish this in the following way: Create a data provider out of raw buffer using CGDataProviderCreateWithData and then create image out of the data provider with the api: CGImageCreate. Now if I write this image back to the CGBitmapContext using CGContextImageDraw. Instead of creating an intermediate image, is there any way of writing the buffer directly to CGContext so that I can avoid the image creation phase? Thanks

• Where to put the default destroy in the jQuery UI 1.8.1 widget's destroy function

  Ok, I'm having a slight bit of confusion writing my own jQuery UI widget plugins. The problem lies in the destroy function. In the docs, it says to put the default destroy first then write other things particular to the widget after it. $.Widget.prototype.destroy.apply(this, arguments); // default destroy // now do other stuff particular to this widget See http://jqueryui.com/docs/Developer_Guide However in their example scripts (those being the actual pluings for jQuery Ui released code, does it the opposite. The $.Widget.prototype.destroy.apply(this, arguments); is at the end of the function. See http://dev.jqueryui.com/browser/trunk/ui/jquery.ui.progressbar.js (and all of the other built in widgets as well) So which is it? The way the current widgets are written, or by the explanation in the code comment in the Developer_Guide?

• When is assembler faster than C?

  One of the stated reasons for knowing assembler is that, on occasion, it can be employed to write code that will be more performant than writing that code in a higher-level language, C in particular. However, I've also heard it stated many times that although that's not entirely false, the cases where assembler can actually be used to generate more performant code are both extremely rare and require expert knowledge of and experience with assembler. This question doesn't even get into the fact that assembler instructions will be machine-specific and non-portable, or any of the other aspects of assembler. There are plenty of good reasons for knowing assembler besides this one, of course, but this is meant to be a specific question soliciting examples and data, not an extended discourse on assembler versus higher-level languages. Can anyone provide some specific examples of cases where assembler will be faster than well-written C code using a modern compiler, and can you support that claim with profiling evidence? I am pretty confident these cases exist, but I really want to know exactly how esoteric these cases are, since it seems to be a point of some contention.

I'm completely new to SP development, so I haven't quite found the various API docs, so I'm hoping someone can help get me started. Eventually, I want to write a simple web part that allows its user to display different content depending on who the current user is. • Can I use some combination of HttpHandler and HttpModule to create an asynchronous file upload?

  I am trying to write a simple asynchronous file upload control for ASP.Net. I've tried a few implementations out there (AjaxControl Toolkit Async Upload, Telerik RadAsyncUpload, AjaxUploader, Uploadify, etc.), but they all leave me wanting something more. I'd rather not use a Flash component, a simple throbber would be OK. Some don't have client side call backs. I figure you can make an http module that checks the request form's enctype and files collection on BeginRequest and save those files to disk. Then somehow use an httpHandler to poll the module's status but I can't quite figure out how to put it all together asynchronously. Can you help me arrange the pieces?

• OSLO, ANTLR or other parser grammar, for parsing QUERY EXPRESSION

  Greetings I'm working on a project that requires me to write queries in text form, then convert them to some easily processed nodes to be processed by some abiguous repository. Of everything there, the part I'm least interested is the part that converts the text to nodes. I'm hoping it's already done somewhere. Because I'm making stuff up as I go, I chose to use a LINQish expression syntax. from m in Movie select m.A, m.B I started parsing it manually and got the basics, but it's pretty cheesy. I'm looking for the better solution. I made some progress using MGrammar, but it would be nice if such a thing already existed. Does anyone know of anything that already does this? I looked for existing ANTLR templates, but no luck. Thanks for the help.

• Matching n parentheses in perl regex

  Hi, I've got some data that I'm parsing in Perl, and will be adding more and more differently formatted data in the near future. What I would like to do is write an easy-to-use function, that I could pass a string and a regex to, and it would return anything in parentheses. It would work something like this (pseudocode): sub parse { $data = shift; $regex = shift; $data =~ eval ("m/$regex/") foreach $x ($1...$n) { push (@ra, $x); } return \@ra; } Then, I could call it like this: @subs = parse ($data, '^"([0-9]+)",([^:]*):(\W+):([A-Z]{3}[0-9]{5}),ID=([0-9]+)'); As you can see, there's a couple of issues with this code. I don't know if the eval would work, the 'foreach' definitely wouldn't work, and without knowing how many parentheses there are, I don't know how many times to loop. This is too complicated for split, so if there's another function or possibility that I'm overlooking, let me know. Thanks for your help!

  I have a multi-threaded application in C# which tries to write to a TextBox in a Windows.Forms created by another thread. • BioPython: extracting sequence IDs from a Blast output file

  Hi, I have a BLAST output file in XML format. It is 22 query sequences with 50 hits reported from each sequence. And I want to extract all the 50x22 hits. • classes and static variables in shared libraries

  I am trying to write something in c++ with an architecture like: App -- Core (.so) <-- Plugins (.so's) for linux, mac and windows. The Core is implicitly linked to App and Plugins are explicitly linked with dlopen/LoadLibrary to App. The problem I have: static variables in Core are duplicated at run-time -- Plugins and App have different copys of them. at least on mac, when a Plugin returns a pointer to App, dynamic casting that pointer in App always result in NULL. Can anyone give me some explanations and instructions for different platforms please? I know this may seem lazy to ask them all here but I really cannot find a systematic answer to this question.

• Can I get Raid disk status by using PS?

  I have a HP server with Raid 5. Port 0 and 1 are used for data & OS mirroring. The software come with the Raid 5 is Intel Matrix Storage Manager and there is manager console as windows based api to view all the ports, including their status. Now they are all in Normal status. I am not sure if the OS/Windows has some APIs or .Net classes to access raid ports and get their status? If so, how can I use PS to get the information? Do I have to reference to the dlls provided by the Intel Matrix Storage Manager if not? Basically, I would like to write a PS script to get read status. In case any of port disk is not normal, a message will be sent out by growl protocol.

  I was trying to write a validation for Rails to ensure that a price entered on a form was greater than zero. It works…sort of. The problem is that when I run it, val is turned into an integer, so it thinks that .99 is less than .1. • A tool or framework extension or code snippet for logging the internal state of objects?

  When spiking on how something works or when my unit test behave in an unpredictable manner I usually have to drop into debug mode. 99% of my time in debug mode is spent checking the values of fields on objects to verify its state. I already have log4net set up, it would seem that if I could easily add a line of code to log out the state of objects I could remove most of my need to start up the bulky debugger. The problem is of course that to expose object state implicitly you need to manually override each object's ToString() method. What I would like to be able to do is the ability to do logger.LogState(someObject) and have logged out the object state including at least a formatted list of all the private variables, references (to some arbitrary depth), and collections. Does anyone know a tool/framework/code snippet that can be used to generate a string of the internal state of any object? I could of course write one myself but its a non-trivial problem and I'd prefer something someone has put some thought into.

• Communicating between PHP and Java using ActiveMQ/Stomp

  Background I have two services that need to communicate with each other over a message queue. One is a legacy service written in PHP and the other is in Java. Sooner than later, the PHP service will be rewritten in Java. The current way they communicate with each other is to write to a shared database, which the other service polls. This is what I'm trying to get away from and replace with a message queue. Problem The communication I'm working on right now is from the PHP service to the Java service. It needs to send a relatively complex object (strings and and integers and lists and maps of strings and integers).   Hi There, I have an Entity Model that has Items, which can belong to one or more categories, and which can have one or more tags. I need to write a query that finds all tags for a given ItemCategory, preferably with a single call to the database, as this is going to get called fairly often. Ideally, I want to return a List(Of TagCount), which is just a structure, containing Tag as string, and Count as integer. I've looked at Group and Join, but I'm not getting anywhere so any help would be greatly appreciated!

• Executing AJAX scripts within an AJAX response

  Hi there, I'm having trouble using AJAX page updates along with other AJAX scripts. During a normal page load, the AJAX scripts (picture scrolling and picture thumbnails) work fine. But when I update a page with AJAX, these scripts (usually loaded in the header of the initial page load) stop working. I am wondering if this is specific to these scripts and I need to look into them deeper to resolve/re-write or if I am missing something more generic in combining AJAX page updates with AJAX scripts the returned code relies on. Embedded javascript runs fine. Thanks for your ideas!   Hi, The background of my question is associated with Tesseract, the free OCR engine (1985-1995 by HP, now hosting in Google). It specifically requires an input file and an output file; the argument only takes filename (not stream / binary string), so in order to use the wrapper API such as pytesser and / or python-tesser.py, the OCR temp files must be created. I, however, have a lot of images need to OCR; frequent disk write and remove is inevitable (and of course the performance hit). The only choice I could think about is changing the wrapper class and point the temp file to RAM disk, which bring this problem up. If you have better solution, please let me know. Thanks a lot. -M

Why? If i instead write if(!$password_introducido == $password_almacenado) it prints "entrosopi". Javi
