  How do I write a program for iPhone (Objective C++) that runs on OS 2.0 but takes advantage of 3.0 features if they're available? Example: copy&paste (class UIPasteboard). Nice feature to have, but I don't want to kill backward compatibility. Do I compile against SDK v. 3 or v. 2? If the latter, how do I create an instance of UIPasteboard, considering it's not declared in the headers? If the former, won't some C-linkage functions cause "unresolved reference" upon loading under OS 2.0?

• Value object getter

  Hi, I've got a value object, which stores info for example amount. The getAmount() getter returns amount in cents. However in various places, we need to get amount in dollar. There are 2 approaches I can think of: write a convert method and place it in a utility class. add a getAmountInDollar() getter in the value object. I prefer the second approach. What do you think? What are pros and cons of both approaches?

So far I've gleaned from Google searches that I need to install Eclipse Web Tools Platform (WTP) to go ahead with it. But when I go to Help-Install New Software I can't find any software update site that is hosting WTP. My default "Available Software Sites" are Helios, Mylyn for Eclipse Helios, and the Eclipse Project Updates. Do I need to add a new software update site to install WTP? If so, what is the URL? If not, where can I find WTP? Thanks in advance.

  Hi, I need to download and parse webpage with lxml and build UTF-8 xml output. I thing schema in pseudocode is more illustrative: from lxml import etree webfile = urllib2.urlopen(url) root = etree.parse(webfile.read(), parser=etree.HTMLParser(recover=True)) txt = my_process_text(etree.tostring(root.xpath('/html/body'), encoding=utf8)) output = etree.Element("out") output.text = txt outputfile.write(etree.tostring(output, encoding=utf8)) So webfile can be in any encoding (lxml should handle this). Outputfile have to be in utf-8. I'm not sure where to use encoding/coding. Is this schema ok? (I cant find good tutorial about lxml and encoding, but I can find many problems with this...) • Executing AJAX scripts within an AJAX response

  Hi there, I'm having trouble using AJAX page updates along with other AJAX scripts. During a normal page load, the AJAX scripts (picture scrolling and picture thumbnails) work fine. But when I update a page with AJAX, these scripts (usually loaded in the header of the initial page load) stop working. I am wondering if this is specific to these scripts and I need to look into them deeper to resolve/re-write or if I am missing something more generic in combining AJAX page updates with AJAX scripts the returned code relies on. Embedded javascript runs fine. Thanks for your ideas! • Custom StyleCop rule not working as expected

  I'm trying to write a StyleCop rule that disallows underscores anywhere. There is a rule to say that you cant have public string _myfield but I don't want underscores anywhere ie/method names, property names, method parameters. Below is my code but its not working properly. • Freezing Eclipse

  I use Eclipse for programming in PHP and Java(Android) and sometimes Python, unfortunately Eclipse is nowadays much more often freezing. Often when I write this bracket "[" for defining an array in PHP, Eclipse just freeze and I have to close it manualy and start again. I've noted also, that Eclipse is consuming really much of my RAM... 200-300MiB of my available memory is nothing special. :-( Is there any way to check, what is consuming the memory in Eclipse and why it's freezing? I'm running on Windows Vista, 3GB RAM.

• Sharepoint - Navigation.QuickLaunch has missing items

  The following code generates an ASCII art tree view of a sharepoint site structure based on the items in the quick launch menu. But some are missing. From googling i've found suggestions that this may be because QuickLaunch only contains items that have been customised. Any idea how to fix this? I want to use the QuickLaunch items as many of the sites have subsites and pages that need to be displayed in a specific order.   Hi, so the story go like this: i'm using the Logging Enterprise Application block that provided by microsoft to log events in our application. The goal is to enabled event viewer logging at loading and then turn it off. What i did is to add EventLog TraceListener which write all our logs into the event viewer. What i'm trying to do is to disable it after the application was done loading. The only way that i can thing about is to add a LogEnabled Filter and then turn it off. However, i don't know how to access this filter at run time and disable log on this listener. if you have an idea, please share. Thanks

• Flex Overwriting my .HTML wrapper

  When I make changes to a Flex project and rerun the project, it seems that FlashBuilder4 rewrites my html wrapper that embeds the SWF. But I have additional javascript code in the html wrapper and don't want to keep losing my code. I had to re-write the code once and it was a pain in the neck. How do I stop it from re-writing the html. And the related question: how do I stop it from deleting the html during a clean? I basically need to exclude the html from its processing once it's been created the first time. P.S. I'm using Flash Builder 4, but I suppose it's the same in Flex Builder 3.

• Idiomatic way to do list/dict in Cython?

  My problem: I've found that processing large data sets with raw C++ using the STL map and vector can often be considerably faster (and with lower memory footprint) than using Cython. I figure that part of this speed penalty is due to using Python lists and dicts, and that there might be some tricks to use less encumbered data structures in Cython. For example, this page (http://wiki.cython.org/tutorials/numpy) shows how to make numpy arrays very fast in Cython by predefining the size and types of the ND array. Question: Is there any way to do something similar with lists/dicts, e.g. by stating roughly how many elements or (key,value) pairs you expect to have in them? That is, is there an idiomatic way to convert lists/dicts to (fast) data structures in Cython? If not I guess I'll just have to write it in C++ and wrap in a Cython import.

To be honest, I have no clue how to output lists.   Hey all, I generate normal links like: <a href="/path/to/image"><img src="/path/to/image" /></a> in a web app. When I click on the link, it displays the picture in a new page. If you want to save the picture, then you need to right click on it and select "save as" I don't want this behaviour, I would like to have a download box popping out when I click on the link, is that possible just with html or javascript? How? If not I guess I would have to write a download.php scrit and call it into the href with the file name as parameter...? Greetings! :)

  I have a library, written in C#, containing one method: Response CalculateSomething(Request); The execution time of this method is relatively large, and there are a lot of responses that should be processed. I want to use a "cluster", spread this DLL to different machines (nodes) in this "cluster" and write some controller that will distribute responses to the nodes. There should be mechanism that perevent losing task because of node crush, load balancing. Can someone suggest framework that addresses this issue? P.S. There is a framework Qizmt written in C# but I think MapReduce is not good for the above scenario

  Hi - I'm trying to read an image file and scale it by multiplying each byte by a scale its pixel levels by some absolute factor.   So I have a custom class Foo that has a number of members: @interface Foo : NSObject { NSString *title; BOOL taken; NSDate *dateCreated; } And in another class I have an NSMutableArray containing a list of these objects. I would very much like to sort this array based on the dateCreated property; I understand I could write my own sorter for this (iterate the array and rearrange based on the date) but I was wondering if there was a proper Objective-C way of achieving this? Some sort of sorting mechanism where I can provide the member variable to sort by would be great. In C++ I used to overload the < = operators and this allowed me to sort by object, but I have a funny feeling Objective-C might offer a nicer alternative? Many thanks

  Hi, I'm trying to use figure out how to sub query a query that uses a filter. From what I've figured out so far while using .filter() it changes the original query, that leads to a second .filter() would also have to match the first filter. I would like to make something like this: modules = data.Modules.all().filter('page = ', page.key()) modules.filter('name = ', 'Test') modules.filter('name = ', 'Test2') I can't get the "Test2" filter to work. The only solution I have at the moment is to make all new queries. data.Modules.all().filter('page = ', page.key()).filter('name = ', "Test").get() data.Modules.all().filter('page = ', page.key()).filter('name = ', "Test2").get() Or write the same as an GQL. But for me it seams quite stupid way to go. I've looked at using ancestors, but I don't quite understand it and honestly don't know if that's the way to go. Any ideas? ..fredrik

  Hi, I am currently using zend_decorators to add styles to my form. I was wondering if there is an alternative way of doing it? It is a bit difficult to write decorators. I would love the casual one using divs and css style : <input type="submit" class="colorfulButton" > It is much simpler rather than set a decorator for a certain control and add it. Since it requires creating a decorator for each style implementation and adding it up with the control. Will view helpers to the trick?

• How can I prevent IIS from trying to load a dll?

  My project is a Speech Server application using Windows Workflow. It runs as an app under IIS. It supports a plug-in system. Here is what is happening: Load DLL into memory and set the type on an InvokeWorkflow control. When the InvokeWorkflow control runs, it appears to correctly instantiate the workflow from the loaded assembly - it completes the Initialize method. Everything crashes an burns, the target workflow is never executed. I can resolve this by putting a copy of the DLL in the application's executing directory. The workflow then executes correctly So it appears that IIS is trying to reload the assembly, even though its already in memory. Is there anyway to alter or disable this behavior in IIS? Perhaps a hook I can write that will intercept the request to load the dll and use my own logic to do so?
