  Is it possible to write a C macro that returns the length of its arguments? I want something that does: foo(1) -> 1 foo(cat, dog) -> 2 foo(red, green, blue) -> 3 Even better if this macro can be defined in such a way that it works with ## so that foo(1) -> bar1(1) foo(cat, dog) -> bar2(cat, dog) foo(red, green, blue) -> car3(red, green, blue) Thanks!   Using javascript, how can we auto insert the current DATE and TIME into a form input field. I'm building a "Problems" form to keep track of user submitted complaints about a certain service. I'm collecting as much info as possible. I want to save the staff here from having to manually enter the date and time each time they open the form. I have this snippet of code: <input id="date" name="date" value="javascript:document.write(Date()+'.')"/> but it's not working. many thanks for any help.

  I am using json and jsonpickle sometimes to serialize objects to files, using the following function: def json_serialize(obj, filename, use_jsonpickle=True): f = open(filename, 'w') if use_jsonpickle: import jsonpickle json_obj = jsonpickle.encode(obj) f.write(json_obj) else: simplejson.dump(obj, f) f.close() The problem is that if I serialize a dictionary for example, using "json_serialize(mydict, myfilename)" then the entire serialization gets put on one line. This means that I can't grep the file for entries to be inspected by hand, like I would a CSV file. Is there a way to make it so each element of an object (e.g. each entry in a dict, or each element in a list) is placed on a separate line in the JSON output file? thanks.

  I have general academic knowledge of the various design patterns that are discussed in GoF and Head First Design Patterns, but I have a difficult time applying them to the code that I am writing. A goal for me this year is to be able to recognize design patterns that are emerging from the code that I write. Obviously this comes with experience (I have about 2 years in the field), but my question is how can I jumpstart my ability to recognize design patterns as I am coding, maybe a suggestion as to what patterns are easiest to start applying in client-server applications (in my case mainly c# webforms with ms sql db's, but this could definitely be language agnostic).

  I just want to develop a C app in linux with the auto(make/conf/...) stuff automatically generated. I tried generating it with ede and anjuta, but it doesn't seem to generate Makefile.am. So, I tried running automake, and it says "ltmain.sh" isn't found. Is there some easy to generate the basic build files for linux C/C++ apps. What is the standard practice? Do most people write these files themselves?

  I have created one user named "tuser" with create database rights in SQL server 2005. and given the 'db_owner' database role of master and msdb database to "tuser". From this user login when I run the script for create database then it will create new database. But "tuser" don't have access that newly created database generated from script. Any one have any idea?, I want to write the script so "tuser" have access that new created database after creation and can have add user permission of newly created database. I want to give 'db_owner' database roles to "tuser" on that newly created database in the same script which create new database. The script run under 'tuser'.

  What is the format string modifier for char-as-number? I want to read in a number never exceeding 255 (actually much less) into an unsigned char type variable using sscanf. Using the typical char source[] = "x32"; char separator; unsigned char dest; int len; len = sscanf(source,"%c%d",&separator,&dest); // validate and proceed... I'm getting the expected warning: argument 4 of sscanf is type char*, int* expected. As I understand the specs, there is no modifier for char (like %sd for short, or %lld for 64-bit long) is it dangerous? (will overflow just overflow (roll-over) the variable or will it write outside the allocated space?) is there a prettier way to achieve that than allocating a temporary int variable? ...or would you suggest an entirely different approach altogether?

  I want to manage permissions and access to a SQL Server database server on a development machine. I've created a local windows group (called DBReaderGroup) and assigned various people to it. The group was created as a SQL Server login successfully: create login [MYMACHINE\DBReaderGroup] from windows My goal is to grant this group read/write access to all databases (which are constantly being added and dropped). Is it possible to configure the right settings so that SQL Server manages this? My biggest challenge is that each time a db is created, I have to update the "User Mapping" settings for this group on the new database. Am I missing something simple?

By running ssh-keygen -y -f /tmp/my.key > /tmp/my.key.pub I can extract the public key. My question is how can I extract the public key from python? • Is there good .sol editor for Flash Player 9 Local Shared Objects? Can we build one?

  There's plenty of them out there but none of them do what I would like them to do. Most of them crash when opening a file or simply corrupt the data. Many don't run at all. It seems to me that most were written 3-4 years ago for AS2 .sols and no longer work with FP9/AS3 sols. I'd attempt to write my own using AIR but I can't find a new spec of the byte format. There's an explanation of the file format here: http://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=27026&group_id=131628 and another here: http://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=27026&group_id=131628 but it looks as though both of these docs are a good 4 years old (pre-FP9) and as I'm not skilled or experienced in file formats, writing a new one, especially without an updated spec, is seeming like less and less of a viable option.   I'm struggling to grasp why MVVM is really a good pattern to implement in riaserivces, To me there's nothing but trouble to it, it just add's another tier that I have to code. I Get that I could change the UI, but really I don't need to. Instead i won't be able to user out of the box functionality with riaservices, datagrid, dataform all controls require some implementation. Why can't it just be simple?   Where can I find some good information on the new client-side validation functionality included in ASP.NET MVC v2? I'd like to find information about using the client-side validation JavaScript without using DataAnnotations, and I'd like to find out how custom validations are handled. For example, if I want to validate two fields together, how would I utilize the provided JavaScript? Or if I wanted to write validation code on the server-side that queried a database, how could I use the provided JavaScript to implement a similar validation? I don't see any books on MVC2 yet, and the blog entries I've found are not detailed enough.

  Hello It seems to be possible in Java to write something like this: private enum TrafficLight { RED, GREEN; public String toString() { return //what should I return here if I want to return //"abc" when red and "def" when green? } } Now, I'd like to know if it possible to returnin the toString method "abc" when the enum's value is red and "def" when it's green. • Java Loop every minute.

  I want to write a loop in Java that firs starts up and goes like this: while (!x){ //wait one minute or two //execute code } I want to do this so that it does not use up system resources. What is actually going on in the code is that it goes to a website and checks to see if something is done, if it is not done, it should wait another minute until it checks again, and when its done it just moves on. Is their anyway to do this in java? I googled it but didnt find anything. Thanks

  I'm currently trying to get a grasp on pycurl. I'm attempting to login to my own website. After logging into the site it should redirect to the main page. However when trying this script it just gets returned to the login page.   I would like to know if the following is possible: As part of the PageLoad of an ASP.Net page request: Use HttpWebRequest (POST) to make a request to a forms authentication webpage of a different web application Examine the response to see if the authentication succeeded (identifiable if an authentication cookie has been set) If it fails, then finish the ASP.Net page request, which will display a message saying "couldn't auto-login" or some such thing If success, then instead of completing the ASP.Net page lifecycle, use "Response.Write" to send the response from the HttpWebRequest back to the browser (thus essentially displaying the webpage from the HttpWebRequest) If the above is possible, then, is there also a way to transfer the authentication cookie from the HttpWebResponse to the requesting browser? My gut feeling is probably not - but if this is the case, then how do proxy servers handle such things? Is that not essentially what they are doing? Thanks for any help
