• Client-side policy error using JacORB (Java/CORBA) with SSL

Using this setup, I can get the demo application that came in the JacORB download to run successfully. The only difference I can tell is that my test is using the Tie method to get the POA. There are some policies that go into that, but I can't find any information on what policies need to go in there to enable SSL, if any. I'm not even sure that's the problem as the JacORB demo doesn't set any policies on the server or poa. When I run the -Djavax.net.debug=ssl, I can see the keystores load up the trusted certs on both the client and the server. I'm just not sure what policies are being referred to here, but it's odd that the demo works and the test doesn't using the exact same keystores and properties. I've emailed the mailing list, but I'm not holding out much hope as that doesn't seem to be very active. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Below are my properties files. • C# SerialPort - Problems mixing ports with different baud rates.

  Greetings, I have two devices that I would like to connect over a serial interface, but they have incompatible connections. To get around this problem, I connected them both to my PC and I'm working on a C# program that will route traffic on COM port X to COM port Y and vice versa. The program connects to two COM ports. In the data received event handler, I read in incoming data and write it to the other COM port. To do this, I have the following code: private void HandleDataReceived(SerialPort inPort, SerialPort outPort) { byte[] data = new byte[1]; while (inPort.BytesToRead > 0) { // Read the data data[0] = (byte)inPort.ReadByte(); // Write the data if (outPort.IsOpen) { outPort.Write(data, 0, 1); } } } That code worked fine as long as the outgoing COM port operated at a higher baud rate than the incoming COM port. If the incoming COM port was faster than the outgoing COM port, I started missing data. I'm new to C# (this is my first program), so I'm wondering if there is something I am missing. The SerialPort defaults to a 2048 byte write buffer and my commands are less than ten bytes. The write buffer should have the ability to buffer the data until it can be written to a slower COM port. In summary, I'm receiving data on COM X and writing the data to COM Y. COM X is connected at a faster baud rate than COM Y. Why doesn't the buffering in the write buffer handle this difference? Why does it seem that I need to wait for the write buffer to drain to avoid losing data? Thanks!

• Java web-app debugging not possible due to direct undeploy on debug

  When i try to debug my webapp it starts up the tomcat server and the application, but shuts down the debugger shortly before the app gets usable. • Vector math, finding coördinates on a planar between 2 vectors

  I am trying to generate a 3d tube along a spline. I have the coördinates of the spline (x1,y1,z1 - x2,y2,z2 - etc) which you can see in the illustration in yellow. At those points I need to generate circles, whose vertices are to be connected at a later stadium. The circles need to be perpendicular to the 'corners' of two line segments of the spline to form a correct tube. Note that the segments are kept low for illustration purpose. [apparently I'm not allowed to post images so please view the image at this link] http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/6863/18720019.jpg I am as far as being able to calculate the vertices of each ring at each point of the spline, but they are all on the same planar ie same angled. I need them to be rotated according to their 'legs' (which A & B are to C for instance). I've been thinking this over and thought of the following: two line segments can be seen as 2 vectors (in illustration A & B) the corner (in illustraton C) is where a ring of vertices need to be calculated I need to find the planar on which all of the vertices will reside I then can use this planar (=vector?) to calculate new vectors from the center point, which is C and find their x,y,z using radius * sin and cos However, I'm really confused on the math part of this. I read about the dot product but that returns a scalar which I don't know how to apply in this case. Can someone point me into the right direction? [edit] To give a bit more info on the situation: I need to construct a buffer of floats, which -in groups of 3- describe vertex positions and will be connected by OpenGL ES, given another buffer with indices to form polygons. To give shape to the tube, I first created an array of floats, which -in groups of 3- describe control points in 3d space. Then along with a variable for segment density, I pass these control points to a function that uses these control points to create a CatmullRom spline and returns this in the form of another array of floats which -again in groups of 3- describe vertices of the catmull rom spline. On each of these vertices, I want to create a ring of vertices which also can differ in density (amount of smoothness / vertices per ring). All former vertices (control points and those that describe the catmull rom spline) are discarded. Only the vertices that form the tube rings will be passed to OpenGL, which in turn will connect those to form the final tube. I am as far as being able to create the catmullrom spline, and create rings at the position of its vertices, however, they are all on a planars that are in the same angle, instead of following the splines path. • PHP: Can pcntl_alarm() and socket_select() peacefully exist in the same thread?

  I have a PHP CLI script mostly written that functions as a chat server for chat clients to connect to (don't ask me why I'm doing it in PHP, thats another story haha). My script utilizes the socket_select() function to hang execution until something happens on a socket, at which point it wakes up, processes the event, and waits until the next event. Now, there are some routine tasks that I need performed every 30 seconds or so (check of tempbanned users should be unbanned, save user databases, other assorted things). From what I can tell, PHP doesn't have very great multi-threading support at all. My first thought was to compare a timestamp every time the socket generates an event and gets the program flowing again, but this is very inconsistent since the server could very well sit idle for hours and not have any of my cleanup routines executed. I came across the PHP pcntl extensions, and it lets me use assign a time interval for SIGALRM to get sent and a function get executed every time it's sent. This seems like the ideal solution to my problem, however pcntl_alarm() and socket_select() clash with each other pretty bad. Every time SIGALRM is triggered, all sorts of crazy things happen to my socket control code. My program is fairly lengthy so I can't post it all here, but it shouldn't matter since I don't believe I'm doing anything wrong code-wise. My question is: Is there any way for a SIGALRM to be handled in the same thread as a waiting socket_select()? If so, how? If not, what are my alternatives here? Here's some output from my program. My alarm function simply outputs "Tick!" whenever it's called to make it easy to tell when stuff is happening. • Good Email Notification Sending Service

  I need to send a few but important email notifications to individual users. For instance, when they register their software I send them a confirmation email. Right now, I am using 'sendmail' from my Perl CGI script to do the job. Most of my automated email are lost or marked as junk. Unfortunately, I am using shared hosting services and not a very good control over the SPF and SenderID DNS records. Even more bad, some other user of that shared server has been infected with some kind of SPAM-BOT and the IP is now blacklisted until further notice! Anyway I just don't want to deal with this kind of headache. I am looking for an online service that I will be able to subscribe to and pay something like 0.10$ per email I send with no monthly fees. I just need and API to be able to send the email from PHP or Perl code I will have to write. I have been looking around at all those "Email Sending Services" and they are all wrapped around creating campains and managing lists for bulk email marketing distribution and newsletters. But remember, I want to send an email notification to a "single" recipient. So far, I have look at MailChimp, SocketLabs, iContact, ConstantContact, StreamSend and so many others to no avail. I have seen one comment at Hackers News saying that MailChimp have an API for transactional e-mails (i.e. ad-hoc ones to welcome a user for example). So you're not just restricted to using them for bulk emails But I cannot find this in the API documentation supplied, maybe this was removed. Any suggestions out there. Here is a summary of my requirements: Allows ad hoc sending of email to a single recipient. Throughput may well be throttle I don't care, i am sending like 2-5 emails a day. API available in PHP or Perl to connect to that web service. Ideally I can send HTML formatted emails, otherwise I will live with text only. Solution not too expensive, between 0.01$ and 0.25$ per email would be acceptable. No recurring monthly fees.

  I am trying to find the correct properties to use to connect to the Gmail SMTP sever using the JavaMailSenderImpl class. Let me first say that I have tried the approach found here. This worked fine. But when I tried the configuration below that post with the exact same authentication information I received a javax.mail.AuthenticationFailedException. • debugging JBoss 100% CPU usage

  Originally posted on Server Fault, where it was suggested this question might better asked here. We are using JBoss to run two of our WARs. One is our web app, the other is our web service. The web app accesses a database on another machine and makes requests to the web service. The web service makes JMS requests to other machines, aggregates the data, and returns it. At our biggest client, about once a month the JBoss Java process takes 100% of all CPUs. The machine running JBoss has 8 CPUs. Our web app is still accessible during this time, however pages take about 3 minutes to load. Restarting JBoss restores everything to normal. The database machine and all the other machines are fine, only the machine running JBoss is affected. Memory usage is normal. Network utilization is normal. There are no suspect error messages in the JBoss logs. I have set up a test environment as close as possible to the client's production environment and I've done load testing with as much as 2x the number of concurrent users. I have not gotten my test environment to replicate the problem. Where do we go from here? How can we narrow down the problem? Currently the only plan we have is to wait until the problem occurs in production on its own, then do some debugging to determine the cause. So far people have just restarted JBoss when the problem occurred to minimize down time. Next time it happens they will get a developer to take a look. The question is, next time it happens, what can be done to determine the cause? We could setup a separate JBoss instance on the same box and install the web app separately from the web service. This way when the problem next occurs we will know which WAR has the problem (assuming it is our code). This doesn't narrow it down much though. Should I enable JMX remote? This way the next time the problem occurs I can connect with VisualVM and see which threads are taking the CPU and what the hell they are doing. However, is there a significant down side to enabling JMX remote in a production environment? Is there another way to see what threads are eating the CPU and to get a stacktrace to see what they are doing? Any other ideas? Thanks!

  I came from a C, php and bash background, it was easy to learn because they all have the same C structure, which I can associate with what I already know. Then 2 years ago I learned Python and I learned it quite well, Python is easier for me to learn than Ruby. Then since last year, I was trying to learn Ruby, then Rails, and I admit, until now I still couldn't get it, the irony is that those are branded as easy to learn, but for a seasoned programmer like me, I just couldn't associate it with what I learned before, I have 2 books on both Ruby and Rails, and when I'm reading it nothing is absorbed into my mind, and I'm close to giving up... In ruby, I'm having a hard time grasping the concepts of blocks, and why there's @variables that can be accessed by other functions, and what does $variable and :variable do? And in Rails, why there's function like this_is_another_function_that_do_this, so thus ruby, is it just a naming convention or it's auto-generated with thisvariable _can_do_this_function. I'm still puzzled that where all those magic concepts and things came from? And now, 1 year of trying and absorbing, but still no progress... Edit: To summarize: How can I learn about blocks, and how can it be related to concepts from PHP/C?   my company's internet works on proxy server with Authentication(i.e. Browser prompts with window for username/password everytime i tried to access any web page). Now i have some windows application which tries to access internet(like WebPI/Visual Studio 2008 for rss feeds), but as they are unable to popup the the authentication window, they are unable to connect with internet with error: (407) Proxy Authentication Required . Here the exception is VS2008, first time it always fails to load rss feeds on startup page, but when i click on the link, it shows authentication window and everything works fine after that. my question is: How can i configure normal windows application(through app.config/app.manifest file) accessing web to able to show the authentication window or provide default credentials. For explore this furthor, i have created one console application on VS2008 which tries to serach something on google and display the result on console. • Trying to send email in Java using gmail always results in username and password not accepted.

  When I call the send method (after setting studentAddress), I get this: javax.mail.AuthenticationFailedException: 535-5.7.1 Username and Password not accepted. So is this something wrong with gmail or what? • Flex+JPA/Hibernate+BlazeDS+MySQL how to debug this monster?!

  Ok so I'm making a "simple" web app using the technologies from the topic, recently I found http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/articles/flex_hibernate.html so I'm following it and I try to apply it to my app, the only difference being I'm working on a Mac and I'm using MAMP for the database (so no command line for me). The thing is I'm having some trouble with retrieving/connecting to the database. I have the remoting-config.xml, persistance.xml, a News.java class (my Entity), a NewsService.java class, a News.as class - all just like in the tutorial. I have of course this line in one of my .mxmls: <mx:RemoteObject id="loaderService" destination="newsService" result="handleLoadResult(event)" fault="handleFault(event)" showBusyCursor="true" /> And my remoting-config.xml looks like this (well part of it): <destination id="newsService"> <properties><source>com.gamelist.news.NewsService</source></properties> </destination> NewsService has a method: public List<News> getLatestNews() { EntityManagerFactory emf = Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory(PERSISTENCE_UNIT); EntityManager em = emf.createEntityManager(); Query findLatestQuery = em.createNamedQuery("news.findLatest"); List<News> news = findLatestQuery.getResultList(); return news; } And the named query is in the News class: @Entity @Table(name="GLT_NEWS") @NamedQueries({ @NamedQuery(name="news.findLatest", query="from GLT_NEWS order by new_date_added limit 5 ") }) The handledLoadResult looks like this: private function handleLoadResult(ev:ResultEvent):void { newsList = ev.result as ArrayCollection; newsRecords = newsList.length; } Where: [Bindable] private var newsList:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection(); But when I try to trigger: loaderService.getLatestNews(); nothing happens, newsList is empty. Few things I need to point out: 1) as I said I didn't install mysql manually, but I'm using MAMP (yes, the server's running), could this cause some trouble? 2) I already have a "gladm" database and I have a "GLT_NEWS" table with all the fields, is this bad? Basically the question is how am I suppose to debug this thing so I can find the mistake I'm making? Basically what I am doing in that code is getting the access token with curl, and then, uploading the photo to my album also via curl, but I keep getting that error!
