  I'm working with JAXB, and I'm having trouble to unmarshall a file; The following lines, on the beginning of the file, are causing trouble: <!DOCTYPE package PUBLIC "+//ISBN 0-9673008-1-9//DTD OEB 1.2 Package//EN" "http://openebook.org/dtds/oeb-1.2/oebpkg12.dtd"> <package xmlns="http://openebook.org/namespaces/oeb-package/1.0/" unique-identifier="uid"> If I delete all the !DOCTYPE it gives no Exception, but it doesn't load any value either. The program (with the !DOCKTYPE) is throwing the exeption: javax.xml.bind.UnmarshalException: unexpected element (uri:"http://openebook.org/namespaces/oeb-package/1.0/", local:"package"). • Backbone.js Model change events in nested collections not firing as expected

  I'm trying to use backbone.js in my first "real" application and I need some help debugging why certain model change events are not firing as I would expect. I have a web service at /employees/{username}/tasks which returns a JSON array of task objects, with each task object nesting a JSON array of subtask objects. Everything renders as expected the first time. But at this point, I would expect either (or both) a Collection change event or a Model change event to get fired if I change a subtask's status using my second web service, but this does not happen. Funnily, I did get change events to fire if I added one additional level of nesting, with the web service returning a single object that has the Tasks Collection embedded, for example: "employee":"pkaushik", "tasks":[{"id":45002,"subtasks":[{"id":1..... But this seems klugey... and I'm afraid I haven't architected my app right. I'll include more code if it helps, but this question is already rather verbose. Thoughts?

• Persistence classes in Qt

  Hi, I'm porting a medium-sized CRUD application from .Net to Qt and I'm looking for a pattern for creating persistence classes. In .Net I usually created abstract persistence class with basic methods (insert, update, delete, select) for example: public class DAOBase<T> { public T GetByPrimaryKey(object primaryKey) {...} public void DeleteByPrimaryKey(object primaryKey) {...} public List<T> GetByField(string fieldName, object value) {...} public void Insert(T dto) {...} public void Update(T dto) {...} } Then, I subclassed it for specific tables/DTOs and added attributes for DB table layout: [DBTable("note", "note_id", NpgsqlTypes.NpgsqlDbType.Integer)] [DbField("note_id", NpgsqlTypes.NpgsqlDbType.Integer, "NoteId")] [DbField("client_id", NpgsqlTypes.NpgsqlDbType.Integer, "ClientId")] [DbField("title", NpgsqlTypes.NpgsqlDbType.Text, "Title", "")] [DbField("body", NpgsqlTypes.NpgsqlDbType.Text, "Body", "")] [DbField("date_added", NpgsqlTypes.NpgsqlDbType.Date, "DateAdded")] class NoteDAO : DAOBase<NoteDTO> { } Thanks to .Net reflection system I was able to achieve heavy code reuse and easy creation of new ORMs. The simplest way to do this kind of stuff in Qt seems to be using model classes from QtSql module. Unfortunately, in my case they provide too abstract an interface. I need at least transactions support and control over individual commits which QSqlTableModel doesn't provide. Could you give me some hints about solving this problem using Qt or point me to some reference materials? Update: Based on Harald's clues I've implemented a solution that is quite similar to the .Net classes above. Now I have two classes. In .Net version it was easy to spot and understand. Do you have some ideas how I could make it better?

• Error in python - don't understand

  Hi, I'm creating a game, and am quite new to Python generally. I created a function 'descriptionGenerator()' which generates a description for characters and objects either randomly or using variables passed to it. It seemed to be working, but every now and then it wouldn't work correctly. So i placed it in a loop, and it never seems to be able to complete the loop without one of the iterations having this problem. • How to create Large resumable download from a secured location .NET

' While dataToRead 0 If Response.IsClientConnected Then length = iStream.Read(buffer, 0, 16000) Response.OutputStream.Write(buffer, 0, length) Response.Flush() ReDim buffer(16000) ' Clear the buffer ' dataToRead = dataToRead - length Else ' Prevent infinite loop if user disconnects ' dataToRead = -1 End If End While This works great on files up to 2GB and is fully functioning now.. But only one problem it doesn't allow for resume. I took the original code called it fetch.aspx and pass an orderNUM through the URL. fetch.aspx&ordernum=xxxxxxx It then reads the filename/location from the database occording to the ordernumber, and chunks it out from a secured location NOT under the webroot. I need a way to make this resumable, by the nature of the internet and large files people always get disconnected and would like to resume where they left off. But any resumable articles i've read, assume the file is within the webroot.. ie. http://www.devx.com/dotnet/Article/22533/1954 Great article and works well, but I need to stream from a secured location. I'm not a .NET coder at all, at best i can do a bit of coldfusion, if anyone could help me modify a handler to do this, i would really appreciate it. Requirements: I Have a working fetch.aspx script that functions well and uses the above code snippet as a base for the streamed downloading. If the ext is a .ASPX and the file being sent is a AVI, clicking on it would completely bypass an IHTTP handler mapped to .AVI ext, so this confuses me From what I understand the browser will read and match etag value and file modified date to determine they are talking about the same file, then a subsequent accept-range is exchanged between the browser and IIS. Since this dialog happens with IIS, we need to use a handler to intercept and respond accordingly, but clicking on the link would send it to an ASPX file which the handeler needs to be on an AVI fiel.. Also confusing me. If there is a way to request the initial HTTP request header containing etag, accept-range into the normal .ASPX file, i could read those values and if the accept-range and etag exist, start chunking at that byte value somehow? but I couldn't find a way to transfer the http request headers since they seem to get lost at the IIS level. OrderNum which is passed in the URL string is unique and could be used as the ETag Response.AddHeader("ETag", request("ordernum")) Files need to be resumable and chunked out due to size. File extensions are .AVI so a handler could be written around it. IIS 6.0 Web Server Any help would really be appreciated, i've been reading and reading and downloading code, but none of the examples given meet my situation with the original file being streamed from outside of the webroot.   So I have been trying to add a custom sidebar archives section to this Wordpress Theme. I am trying to get two separate yearly archive sections, one for category A and one for category B. I need to get a post count and display it as well, to the left of "articles". This is the format I have been trying to get in the sidebar: Category 1 2010 - 5 articles 2009 - 4 articles 2008 - 6 articles 2007 - 5 articles Category 2 2010 - 8 articles 2009 - 3 articles 2008 - 7 articles 2007 - 5 articles This code is pulling the yearly archive, but the links to the yearly archives do not filter by category. However, if Category 1 does not have posts in 2008, 2008 would not show. So I feel like I am really close, but there is something wrong here in the code. I have also been unsuccessful in pulling the post count for the year/category either. • jQuery Validation hiding or tearing down jquery Modal Dialog on submit

  Basically when clicking the modal created submit button, and calling jQuery('#FormName').submit(), it will run the validation and then call the method assigned in the submitHandler. After that it is either creating a new modal div or hiding the form, and I don't get why. I have debugged it and noticed that after the method call in the submitHandler, the form .is(':hidden') = true and this is true for the modal div also. I'm positive I've done this before but can't seem to figure out what I've done wrong this time. The odd this is a modal div is showing up on the screen, but it's completely devoid of content. (Even after putting in random text outside of the form. For example, using the validator to add messages to the error div. (Success or not) Without doing this, the modal dialog apparently thinks that it's done with what it needs to do and just hides everything. Not sure exactly why, but to stop this behavior some kind of focus has to be assigned to something within the div itself.

• Error data: line 2 column 1 when using pycurl with gzip stream

  Thanks for reading. Background: I am trying to read a streaming API feed that returns data in JSON format, and then storing this data to a pymongo collection. The streaming API requires a "Accept-Encoding" : "Gzip" header. What's happening: Code fails on json.loads and outputs - Extra data: line 2 column 1 - line 4 column 1 (char 1891 - 5597) (Refer Error Log below) This does NOT happen while parsing every JSON object - it happens at random. My guess is I am encountering some weird JSON object after every "x" proper JSON objects. I did reference how to use pycurl if requested data is sometimes gzipped, sometimes not? and Encoding error while deserializing a json object from Google but so far have been unsuccessful at resolving this error. • MSBuild condition across projects

  I have tried several solutions for this problem. Enough to know I do not know enough about MSBuild to do this elegantly but I feel like there should be a method. I have a set of libraries for working with .net projects. A few of the projects utilize System.Web.Mvc - which recently released Version 2 - and we are looking forward to the upgrade. Currently sites which reference this library reference it directly by the project(csproj) on the developer's computer - not a built version of the library so that changes and source code case easily be viewed when dealing code from this library. This works quite well and would prefer to not have to switch to binary references (but will if this is the only solution). The problem I have is that because of some of the functionality that was added onto the MVC1 based library (view engines, model binders etc) several of the sites reliant on these libraries need to stay on MVC1 until we have full evaluated and tested them on MVC2. I would prefer to not have to fork or have two copies on each dev machine. • Increase RGB components every Hour (r), Minute (g), Second (b) for digital clock

  So I am taking my first javascript class (total noob) and one of the assignments is to modify a digital clock by assigning the color red to hours, green minutes, blue to seconds, then increase the respective color component when it changes. I have successfully assigned a decimal color value (ex. "#850000" to each element (hours, minutes, seconds), but my brain is fried trying to figure out how to increase the brightness when hours, minutes, seconds change, i.e. red goes up to "#870000" changing from 1:00:00 pm to 2:00:00 pm. • Google Drive Update keeps throwing an error when I try to save a thumbnail

  The Base64 string checks out fine. I was able to export it to another website and download it again as my image. When I try to do an update using the Drive Javascript api, it just keeps returning this error: Invalidvaluefor:Notavalidbase64bytestring I also true making the string URL safe. Per this page https://google-api-client-libraries.appspot.com/documentation/drive/v2/python/latest/drive_v2.files.html Am I doing something wrong here, the documentation says send Base64, the string is valid and, the string is intact throughout the process, but Google will not accept it? I am using the javascript api, I think there is maybe a bug sending the thumbnail using the javascript api.   I'm having some serious performance issues with a multi-million row table that I feel I should be able to get results from fairly quick. Here's a run down of what I have, how I'm querying it, and how long it's taking: I'm running SQL Server 2008 Standard, so Partitioning isn't currently an option I'm attempting to aggregate all views for all inventory for a specific account over the last 30 days. • Design Question - how do you break the dependency between classes using an interface?

  Hello, I apologize in advance but this will be a long question. I'm stuck. I am trying to learn unit testing, C#, and design patterns - all at once. (Maybe that's my problem.) As such I am reading the Art of Unit Testing (Osherove), and Clean Code (Martin), and Head First Design Patterns (O'Reilly). I am just now beginning to understand delegates and events (which you would see if you were to troll my SO questions of recent). I still don't quite get lambdas. To contextualize all of this I have given myself a learning project I am calling goAlarms. I have an Alarm class with members you'd expect (NextAlarmTime, Name, AlarmGroup, Event Trigger etc.) I wanted the "Timer" of the alarm to be extensible so I created an IAlarmScheduler interface as follows... public interface AlarmScheduler { Dictionary<string,Alarm> AlarmList { get; } void Startup(); void Shutdown(); void AddTrigger(string triggerName, string groupName, Alarm alarm); void RemoveTrigger(string triggerName); void PauseTrigger(string triggerName); void ResumeTrigger(string triggerName); void PauseTriggerGroup(string groupName); void ResumeTriggerGroup(string groupName); void SetSnoozeTrigger(string triggerName, int duration); void SetNextOccurrence (string triggerName, DateTime nextOccurrence); } This IAlarmScheduler interface define a component that will RAISE an alarm (Trigger) which will bubble up to my Alarm class and raise the Trigger Event of the alarm itself. It is essentially the "Timer" component. I have found that the Quartz.net component is perfectly suited for this so I have created a QuartzAlarmScheduler class which implements IAlarmScheduler. All that is fine. My problem is that the Alarm class is abstract and I want to create a lot of different KINDS of alarm. For example, I already have a Heartbeat alarm (triggered every (int) interval of minutes), AppointmentAlarm (triggered on set date and time), Daily Alarm (triggered every day at X) and perhaps others. And Quartz.NET is perfectly suited to handle this. My problem is a design problem. I want to be able to instantiate an alarm of any kind without my Alarm class (or any derived classes) knowing anything about Quartz. The problem is that Quartz has awesome factories that return just the right setup for the Triggers that will be needed by my Alarm classes. So, for example, I can get a Quartz trigger by using TriggerUtils.MakeMinutelyTrigger to create a trigger for the heartbeat alarm described above. Or TriggerUtils.MakeDailyTrigger for the daily alarm. I guess I could sum it up this way. Indirectly or directly I want my alarm classes to be able to consume the TriggerUtils.Make* classes without knowing anything about them. I know that is a contradiction, but that is why I am asking the question. I thought about putting a delegate field into the alarm which would be assigned one of these Make method but by doing that I am creating a hard dependency between alarm and Quartz which I want to avoid for both unit testing purposes and design purposes. I thought of using a switch for the type in QuartzAlarmScheduler per here but I know it is bad design and I am trying to learn good design. If I may editorialize a bit. I've decided that coding (predefined) classes is easy. Design is HARD...in fact, really hard and I am really fighting feeling stupid right now. I guess I want to know if you really smart people took a while to really understand and master this stuff or should I feel stupid (as I do) because I haven't grasped it better in the couple of weeks/months I have been studying.   I'm creating a custom DataSet and I'm under some constrains: I want the user to specify the type of the data which they want to store. I want to reduce type-casting because I think it will be VERY expensive. I will use the data VERY frequently in my application. I don't know what type of data will be stored in the DataSet, so my initial idea was to make it a List of objects, but I suspect that the frequent use of the data and the need to type-cast will be very expensive. When the data is being loaded from the CSV file I'd like to specify the type rather than casting to object. The data could contain columns such as dates, numbers, strings, etc. Here is what it could look like: "Date","Song","Rating","AvgRating","User" "02/03/2010","Code Monkey",4.6,4.1,"joe" "05/27/2009","Code Monkey",1.2,4.5,"jill" The data will be used in a Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence algorithm, so it is essential that I make the reading of data very fast. I want to eliminate type-casting as much as possible, since I can't afford to cast from 'object' to whatever data type is needed on every read. I've seen applications that allow the user to pick the specific data type for each item in the csv file, so I'm trying to make a similar solution where a different type can be specified for each column. I want to create a generic solution so I don't have to return a List<object> but a List<DateTime> (if it's a DateTime column) or List<double> (if it's a column of doubles). Is there any way that this can be achieved? Perhaps my approach is wrong, is there a better approach to this problem?
