    I have a database of People and pets, with a one to many relationship Person Pet Name Name Pet <----- Owner I am using a UITableView backed by Core data and a nsfetchedresultscontroller to display the list of pets, grouped into sections by the owner. NSFetchRequest *fetchRequest = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; fetchRequest.entity = [NSEntityDescription entityFromName:@"Pet" inManagedObjectContext:context] NSSortDescriptor *sortDescriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"Owner.name" ascending:YES]; NSArray *sortDescriptors = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:sortDescriptor, nil]; [fetchRequest setSortDescriptors:sortDescriptors]; NSFetchedResultsController *controller = [[NSFetchedResultsController alloc] initWithFetchRequest:fetchRequest managedObjectContext:context sectionNameKeyPath:@"Owner.name" cacheName:@"Root"]; This works to display all pets under their owners section, however I also want to display the empty sections of People who do not have any pets?   • UITableView: Need a liveUpdate (Huge amount of cells)

    Hey all, I have a UITableView which shows some information. The informations are from a XMLFile. The Xmlfile is pretty big, about 500 entries. I don't want that the user has to wait until the parsing has finished, i want to add cell by cell to the TableView. Here's my code: -(void) onFinishedPartDownload:(id)item { if(odvTableViewDelegateController.odvs == nil) odvTableViewDelegateController.odvs = [NSMutableArray new]; if([odvTableViewDelegateController.odvs count]==0) { genericDelegate.tableView.delegate = odvTableViewDelegateController; genericDelegate.tableView.dataSource = odvTableViewDelegateController; } [odvTableViewDelegateController.odvs addObject:item]; [genericDelegate.tableView reloadData]; } This method is called everytime an item has parsed, but it reloads the tableView all at once at the end. I don't have my expected liveUpdate which i'm searching for. The intervall the method is called is about 0.001 to 0.0025 seconds. Any ideas to fix that? Sebastian

    From the docs: If all of a managed object's relationship delete rules are Nullify, then for that object at least there is no additional work to do (you may have to consider other objects that were at the destination of the relationship—if the inverse relationship was either mandatory or had a lower limit on cardinality, then the destination object or objects might be in an invalid state). Does someone have an example of this cardinality thing? What's this good for and what's important to know about this? (sounds very important...)

    iOS 4: I have entities in Core Data (using SQLite, which is a requirement) of: Request Response (which has a property personId) Revision Relationships are: Request <-- Revision Request <-- Response Revision <-- Response (e.g. each request may have many responses; each request/response pair may have many revisions) I'm trying to do a predicate to get all Responses with a given personId that have zero Revisions. Using: (personId == %d) && (Request.Revision[SIZE] == 0) in my predicate string gives me a runtime exception "Unsupported function expression Request.Revision[SIZE]" The documentation seems pretty sparse on aggregate functions, only noting that they exist, but with no syntax or examples. Not sure if it's my syntax or if the SIZE function really isn't supported in iOS.

  • How to fit more operations to tab bar + navigation bar?

    I want to use Tabview for my whole app. However in certain view, I have more operations than I can fit in the navigator bar. So I thought of using Toolbar but toolbar should be located at the bottom, right? Toolbar looks weird to be on top of the tabview, and hiding tabview for one view doesn't really make sense. I guess I can go with more buttons in the main view, but any other alternatives? What can one use to add more operation(s) to tabview? Thanks

  • Is there a faster way to draw text?

    Shark complains about a big performance hit with this line, which takes like 80% of CPU time. I have a counter that is updated very frequently and performance seriously sucks. It's an custom UILabel subclass with -drawRect: implemented. Every time the counter value changes, this is used to draw the new text: [self.text drawInRect:textRect withFont:correctedFont lineBreakMode:self.lineBreakMode alignment:self.textAlignment]; When I comment this line out, performance rocks. Its smooth and fast. So Shark isn't wrong about this. But what could I do to improve this? Maybe go a level deeper? Does that make any sense? Probably drawing text is really so incredible heavy...?

  • UIButton title disappears on touch

    I want a touchable UILabel, but since that's not possible I decided to create a UIButton of type UIButtonTypeCustom. It looks how I want it to look, but when I touch it, the title disappears. I tried setting the title for state UIControlStateHighlighted but that didn't help. I know I'm doing something really silly here, but can't figure it out. I tried a few things (commented in the code below) which didn't seem to help.     This is FIrst time i try to create Cocoa Touch Static Library and follow these steps. Create New Project with Cocoa Touch Static Library named it By default i got single class with Demo.h and Demo.m. 2.Create a public function in .h and implement it in .m. 3.Select iOS Device and press cmd + B. 4.Copy Demo.a from products and the .h file drop it in my iOS App where i want to use it. 5.Then Import Demo.h and try to call the function that i wrote.   • UINavigationController shows blank view

    I am making a simple navigation based application that drills down one level and show a new xib file each time. When I drill down one level my screen shows up blank. I still have the navigation controller at the top with a back button but my view dosent load.     I'm creating a simple app where when the user presses a button, a series of lines will be drawn on the screen and the user will be able to see these lines drawn in real time (almost like an animation). My code looks something like this (has been simplified): UIGraphicsBeginImageContext(CGSizeMake(300,300)); CGContextRef context = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); for (int i = 0; i < 100; i++ ) { CGContextMoveToPoint(context, i, i); CGContextAddLineToPoint(context, i+20, i+20); CGContextSetStrokeColorWithColor(context, [[UIColor blackColor] CGColor]); CGContextStrokePath(context); } UIImage *newImage = UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext(); UIGraphicsEndImageContext(); My problem is that: 1) As soon as the user presses the button, the UIThread blocks until the drawing is done. 2) I can't get the lines to be drawn on the screen one at a time - I've tried setting the UIImage directly inside the loop and also tried setting a layer content inside the loop. How do I get around these problems?

I want to implement the search functionality in the app. I am using NSRegularExpression class for searching. Please consider the following html code: <temp> I am temp in tempo with temptation </temp> Say for example in the above html code I just want to search for the word temp. Now in above code temp is appearing 5 times - <temp> </temp> temp tempo temptation. I am looking for a regular expression where I can only extract the whole word "temp". I don't want to consider the word temp in the html tags <temp> </temp>. I also don't want the word tempo and temptation to be considered. Thanks in advance

    The docs say: you should implement methods of the form validate:error:, as defined by the NSKeyValueCoding protocol so lets say I have an attribute which is an int: friendAge I want to make sure that any friend may not be younger than 30. So how would I make that validation method? -validateFriendAge:error: What am I gonna do in there, exactly? And what shall I do with that NSError I get passed? I think it has an dictionary where I can return a humanly readable string in an arbitrary language (i.e. the one that's used currently), so I can output a reasonable error like: "Friend is not old enough"... how to do that?

    I know that in the sdk folders I can find some (not very well grouped, imho) icon. But, there is a site online specialized that let you download free icons useful for mobile app? Ie world flags, up, down... save, revert..., next..., play, stop..., etc. It would be more appriciated also if you can find these sets in many different colors, and in 2 or 3 sizes (32x32, 64x64, etc.). Have a nice day (ot. Especially my mom - her 62 birthday :-) Edit: those are all good sites, but to green-check the answer I need a small set with the common icons (I think moreabout 50-70 icons), in many different colors and in 2 or 3 different sizes (for lo-mid-hi definition devices). - If a so done site exists for free :-)

  • Slow loading of UITableView. How know why?

    I have a UITableView that show a long list of data. Use sections and follow the sugestion of http://stackoverflow.com/questions/695814/how-solve-slow-scrolling-in-uitableview . The flow is load a main UITableView & push a second selecting a row from there. However, with 3000 items take 11 seconds to show. I suspect first from the load of the records from sqlite (I preload the first 200). So I cut it to only 50. However, no matter if I preload only 1 or 500, the time is the same. The view is made from IB and all is opaque. I run out of ideas in how detect the problem. I run the Instruments tool but not know what to look. Also, when the user select a cell from the previous UITable, no visual feedback is show (ie: the cell not turn selected) for a while so he thinks he not select it and try several times. Is related to this problem. What to do? NOTE: The problem is only in the actual device: iPod Touch 2d generation Using fmdb as sqlite api Doing the caching in viewDidLoad Using NSDictionary for the caching Using a NSAutoreleasePool for the caching part. Only caching the row ID & mac 4 fields necesary to show the cell data UIView made with interface builder, SDK 2.2.1 Instruments say I use 2.5 MB in the device
