  • When do I bite the bullet and hire a developer? [closed]

    - by Paul Seattle
I have an awesome URL, I've had it since the mid 90's, and up until around 2002 I was having an awesome time writing music reviews and features into static pages and adding their URL to static index pages and everything was just great. Then things got complicated really fast, and for one reason or another I handed the site over to a very talented friend who turned it into a db based site run by cf. Now, here I am around twelve years later putting it all back together using mysql, php and css on a need-to-learn basis and even though I'm sooo close to where I want it to be I realize, erm, it should have been written using mysqli etc etc ad infinitum. So I'm wondering at what point do I just give in and hire a developer to take over, how much does it even cost, and how do I know I'm working with someone who is better than I am?

  • TabBars and iOS 7

    - by MichaelScaria
I have a UITabbarController that I'm pushing another controller on top of using a UINavigationController. On iOS 6 and below, the tabBar of the parent controller slides away and the toolbar of the new view controller is presented. But on iOS 7 the tabBar doesn't animate away even if I run the code [self.navigationController setToolbarHidden:YES animated:NO]; EDIT - Okay I narrowed my problem to iOS 7 not respecting the hidesBottomBarWhenPushed property, I followed the answers in hidesBottomBarWhenPushed ignored in iOS 7 but it didn't work. The view that is pushed has a toolbar with buttons and the buttons are responding to touches, it's just that the tabBar is on top of the toolbar.

  • Adding a view with a view controller as a subview of another view controller. Doesn't work.

    - by Tom
I'm trying to essentially re-implement the UISplitViewController (because it has its limits), but when I create a UIViewController viewController, and then do an "[viewController.view addSubview contentViewController.view]" on it, to add a view that already has a view controller, that content view doesn't seem to get initialised by its view controller. I guess its view controller is getting detached or deallocated, is this the case?

  • Fastest way to get array of NSRange objects for all uppercase letters in an NSString?

    - by Bama91
I need NSRange objects for the position of each uppercase letter in a given NSString for input into a method for a custom attributed string class.  There are of course quite a few ways to accomplish this such as rangeOfString:options: with NSRegularExpressionSearch or using RegexKitLite to get each match separately while walking the string.  What would be the fastest performing approach to accomplish this task?

  • Build a Drill Down TableView with arrays

    - by skiria
    I'm trying to build a Drill down tableview to show the information that I have in a hierachy of arrays and classes. I have 3 classes: class Video { nameVideo, id, description, user... } class Topic {nameTopic, topicID, NSMutableArray videos; } class Category {nameCategory, categoryID, NSMUtableArray topics} And then in my app delegate I defined //AppDelegate.h NSMutableArray categories; The app display the tableView with nameCategory, but then, when I select a row it shows a tableview with 0 rows. If I check, for the second view the NumberOfRowsInSection, it returns me 0. I supose that the error is that I don't build correctly the provisional array called tableDataSource, I don't know the reason why it doesn't copy the new information on this array. ` - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; appDelegate = (TSCAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; //self.title = @"Categoria"; if(CurrentLevel == 0) { //Initialize our table data source NSArray *tempArray = [[NSArray alloc] init]; self.tableDataSource = tempArray; [tempArray release]; self.tableDataSource = appDelegate.categories; self.navigationItem.title = @"Categoria"; CurrentTitle = @"Categoria"; } else { self.navigationItem.title = CurrentTitle; } } - (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView { return 1; } // Customize the number of rows in the table view. - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section { NSLog (@"contador_ %i,", [self.tableDataSource count]); //--> On the second view it is 0! return [self.tableDataSource count]; } // Customize the appearance of table view cells. - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier]autorelease]; } // Configure the cell. if (CurrentLevel == 0) { Category *aCategory = [self.tableDataSource objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; cell.text = aCategory.nameCategory; } if (CurrentLevel == 1) { Topic *aTopic = [self.tableDataSource objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; cell.text = aTopic.nameTopic; } else if ([CurrentLevel == 0]){ Topic *aTopic = [self.tableDataSource objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; cell.text = aTopic.nameTopic; //NSLog(@"inside!!"); } cell.accessoryType = UITableViewCellAccessoryDisclosureIndicator; return cell; } - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { //Get the actual Category Category *aCategory = [self.tableDataSource objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; //NSLog (@" CATEGORY: %@", aCategory.nameCategory); //NSLog (@" CATEGORY: %i", aCategory.categoryID); //NSLog (@" TOPICS OF CATEGORY: %i", [aCategory.topics count]); //Prepare to tableview. navegaTableViewController *nvController = [[navegaTableViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"navegaTableView" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]]; //Increment the Current View nvController.CurrentLevel += 1; //Set the title; nvController.CurrentTitle = @"Topic"; nvController.tableDataSource = aCategory.topics; //Push the new table view on the stack [self.navigationController pushViewController:nvController animated:YES]; [nvController release]; } `

  • From Fraction to Decimal and Back?

    - by CC
Hi folks... Is it possible to store a fraction like 3/6 in a variable of some sort? When I try this it only stores the numbers before the /. I know that I can use 2 variables and divide them, but the input is from a single text field. Is this at all possible? I want to do this because I need to calculate the fractions to decimal odds. A bonus question ;) - Is there an easy way to calculate a decimal value to a fraction? Thanks..

  • How do I use a contact's photo in a table view cell?

    - by Andy
I've got an app that has a table view that displays contact information in each row. I'd like to use the contact's stored image (if there is one available) as the image on the left-hand side of the cell. I've found some sketchy sample code in Apple's documentation, but the address book references some kind of weird data type (CFDataRef) that doesn't appear to correspond to the data types referenced in the table view programming guide (mainly UIImage). This seems like a pretty basic task, but I can't seem to wrap my head around it. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

  • how to create a auto-incremented attribute in xcode managed object model

    - by Mausimo
Hey, what i want to do is to make a int that will be the ID of the entity and auto increment itself whenever a new entity is added (just like a SQL identity property). Is this possible? i tried using indexed (checked on attribute) however there is no description to what indexed even does. EDIT: I am adding annotations to a map, when you click the pin the annotationview with a chevron shows up. Now when you click this button i would like to load an associated picture. However the only way i know how to link the picture to this button is to give the picture a unique id, and then set the button.tag to this id and then load based on the button.tag.

  • What's the reason why core data takes care of the life-cycle of modeled properties?

    - by mystify
The docs say that I should not release any modeled property in -dealloc. For me, that feels like violating the big memory management rules. I see a big retain in the header and no -release, because Core Data seems to do it at any other time. Is it because Core Data may drop the value of a property dynamically, at any time when needed? And what's Core Data doing when dropping an managed object? If there's no -dealloc, then how and when are the properties getting freed up?

  • Stop lazy-loading images?

    - by Greg
Here's the issue – I followed along with the Apple lazy-load image sample code to handle my graphical tables. It works great. However, my lazy-load image tables are being stacked within a navigation controller so that you can move in and out of menus. While all this works, I'm getting a persistent crash when I move into a table then move immediately back out of it using the "back" button. This appears to be a result of the network connections loading content not being closed properly, or calling back to their released delegates. Now, I've tried working through this and carefully setting all delegates to nil and calling close on all open network connections before releasing a menu. However, I'm still getting the error. Also – short posting my entire application code into this post, I can't really post a specific code snippet that illustrates this situation. I wonder if anyone has ideas for tasks that I may be missing? Do I need to do anything to close a network connection other than closing it and setting it to nil? Also, I'm new to debugging tools – can anyone suggest a good tool to use to watch network connections and see what's causing them to fail? Thanks!

  • adding a UITableView programmatically to a UIViewController

    - by Adam
I'm loading a UIViewController into one of my Nav controller's hierarchies, which will contain some text and some images. At the bottom, I will want to create a expandable and collapsable tableview. First off, is this idea possible? If it is, how do I add it and where do I place the data source and delegate methods? Can I just make a separate subclass of the TableViewController and then add it to my ViewController as a subview?

  • What's a good place to unregister an observer from the notification center?

    - by mystify
When I add an observer to the default notification center, where would I unregister that? Example: I have a UIView subclass which lives inside a view controller. That subclass is an observer for the FooBarNotification. If this notification is posted, that view will get it. But now, the view controller decides to throw away the view. Is the best place the -dealloc method of the view itself? Are there any rules like memory management rules? For example: Must I unregister an observer where I registered it? i.e. the view registers itself in it's init method, so it should unregister itself in it's -dealloc method? (not talking about push notifications, but NSNotificationCenter)

  • Reading a Text file in xcode

    - by Nicolaj Zefting
First off, I'm a complete beginner. This might be a stupid question, but here it goes: I'm currently working on an App than contains Latin texts that the users can view and read. I'm using Xcode 4 with the storybord function. Theway the app is built: user selects author - then the book - then app shows the text. I am kind of confused because i need to have various text files, depending on the users choice.
