• Editing Data in Child Window with RIA Services and Silverlight 4

  Is it possible to edit data in a SilverLight Child window when using RIA Services and Silverlight 4? It sounds like a simple enough question, but I have not been able to get any combination of scenarios to work. Simply put, I am viewing data in a grid that was populated through a DomainDataSource. Instead of editing the data on the same screen (this is the pattern that ALL of the Microsoft samples seem to use), I want to open a child window, edit the data and return. Surely this is a common design pattern. If anyone knows of a sample out there that uses this pattern, a link would be much appreciated. Thanks, Rick Arthur

  Hello, do you know of any software that would help me transform a broken line into a curved line? For example, I have an octagon or a heptagon and I want it to be transformed into something resembling a circle. if you know such software, please, let me know. Thank You! • Unable to sync custom authentication with RIA services in SL3 + RIA implementation

  I am developing SL3 + RIA services with custom authentication. I followed the example in http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/RiaServices/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=2661 to implement custom authentication. Based on the implementation, you first do login request from client to service. This request is async process. Noe the client GUI will start to bind data to SL controls using RIA services, which requires the authentication to be successful (by adding [RequireAuthentication] attribute). The trouble is, since you requested login from the main process, while it is doing authentication, the page control takes over and starts to bind data using RIA services. But the problem is authentication is not completed yet thus which ever the first service method data binding hits will fail with 'Access denied'. Bottom line is GUI is will not wait for authentication to be completed to start the data binding. My question is how do you handle this situation? Thanks,

• JMF Registry could not add item (Vista)

  Hello, I'm using JMF to capture video stream (webcam) on my Java project. The camera I'm using is recognized by JMF (JFMStudio) and I manage to get the video stream. However, on JMF Registry Editor - there's a list of available capture devices, when I click "Add" on one of the items (including the one I need) I get a "Could not add item" error. Therefore this camera is not set in the registry of it (god know where) and later on it is not recognized by my project: RGBFormat fmt = new RGBFormat(); // could be YUV - doesn't matter Vector v = CaptureDeviceManager.getDeviceList(fmt); v is empty (while I know the video source is recognized by Java , since I manage to get video on JMF Studio). Now, this happens only on Vista (where else) and not on XP. I have a suspiction that somehow Vista security blocks Java from writing the registry file, but of course, I might be wrong. One more comments: this is vfw:Microsoft WDM Image Capture(Win32):0 device. Any idea ?

• Am I going about this the right way?

  Hey Guys, I'm starting a WPF project, and just finished the base of the UI, it seems very convoluted though, so I'm not sure if I've gone around laying it out in the right way. I don't want to get to start developing the back-end and realise that I've done the front wrong, and make life harder for myself. Coming from a background of <DIV's and CSS to style this is a lot different, and really want to get it right from the start. Essentially it's a one week calendar (7 days, Mon-Sunday, defaulting to the current week.) Which will eventually link up to a DB and if I have an appointment for something on this day it will show it in the relevant day. I've opted for a Grid rather than ListView because of the way it will work I will not be binding the results to a collection or anything along those lines. Rather I will be filling out a Combo box within the canvas for each day (yet to be placed in the code) for each event and on selection it will show me further details. • How do I interact with OData from Java?

  OData is Microsoft's repackaging of its Astoria (now WCF Data Services) RESTful query/update protocol. If I want to use Java to create an OData compatible data source, how do I do that? Similarly, if I want to consume an OData data source from Java, how do I do that? http://www.odata.org/ Partial answer below. The OData website suggests that Restlet supports OData. • Office ribbon for WPF 4.0

  Hi all, It is rumoured that WPF 4.0 would deliver us an out-of-the-box Office Ribbon. A new WPF Ribbon Control will be available for download shortly after the release of WPF 4. [1] Now my internet and MSDN search turned out to be fruitless, and as far as I know, it would be release after the .NET 4.0 framework would launch. My search lead me to the Office plugin ribbon controls and the CTP prereleased before the release of .net 4.0 with a limited featureset. So my question is: does anyone know if and when Microsoft will release this Office Ribbon with the framework? Or if they don't a nice press note saying that they ditched the project. Also if anyone has experience with the Ribbon I'm talking about, will this Ribbon work in a partial trusted environment? My thanks will be ever lasting! ;)

Do I really need to download Microsoft.web.mvc.dataannotation dll (The other dll is already present in the vs). to use(fire) datannotation on the page.? I am using partial views as well on the pages with dataviewmodel class(I will be using formviewmodel class for validation?)

• WPF slow to start on x64 in .NET Framework 4.0

  I've noticed that if I build my WPF application for Any CPU/x64, it takes MUCH longer to start (on the order of about 20 seconds) or to load new controls than it does if started on x86 (in release & debug modes, inside or outside of VS). This occurs with even the simplest WPF apps. The problem is discussed in this MSDN thread, but no answer was provided there. This happens only with .NET 4.0 -- in 3.5 SP1, x64 was just as fast as x86. Interestingly, Microsoft seems to know about this problem since the default for a new WPF project in VS2010 is x86. Is this a real bug or am I just doing it wrong? EDIT: Possibly related to this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2788215/slow-databinding-setup-time-in-c-net-4-0. I'm using data binding heavily.

• ModelBinding to and EntitySet (MVC2 & LinqToSQL)

  Hi all There seems to be an issue with the default model binder when binding to an EntitySet causes the EntitySet to be empty. The problem is described here and here: Microsoft's response is: ... We have now fixed this and the fix will be included in .NET Framework 4.0. With the new behavior, if the EntitySet passed into Assign is the same object as the one its being assigned to, no action will occur. With a work around being to edit the code generated like so: public override EntitySet<Thing> Things { get { return this._Things; } set { //CORRECTION: _Things= new EntitySet<Thing>(); _Things.Assign(value); //WAS: this._Things.Assign(value); } } As you can imagine this is not ideal as you have to re-add the code every time, does anyone have a better solution?

• Excel error HRESULT: 0x800A03EC while trying to get range with cell's name

  I am working with Window Service project. that have to write data to a sheet in Excel file in a sequence times. But sometimes, just sometimes, the service throw out the exception "Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A03EC" while it's trying to get range with cell's name. I have put the code of opening excel sheet, and getting cell here. • Pure C# open source PCM to Ogg convertor?

  Microsoft Silverlight 4 is in beta. It supports PCM audio output. It would be madness to stream PCM over internet (for ex in P2P chart webApp) so we need Pure C# open source PCM to Ogg convertor. No unmanaged code, nothing going out of .net sandbox. So does any one know such Pure C# open source PCM to Ogg convertor? What do I need: Open Source Libs for encoding. Tutorials and blog articles on How to do it, about etc. BTW: why Pure C#? - because Silverlight 4 does not support unmanaged or just not C# DLL's. BTW2: this question is similar to this one but it is different because Ogg is Open Source, free while mp3 will not be free until 2010

  I´ve got a very short question about the "dataGridView". I´m developing with the Microsoft PowerShell and I want to copy one Row (from $dataGridView1) to the other ($dataGridView2). With this Code I can only Copy the Value of the last focused Cell. I´ve tried to make this for a whole Row, but it´s only working with Cells. • ASP.NET Load unmanaged dll from bin folder

  Question: I use an embedded Firebird database in ASP.NET. Now, Firebird has a .NET wrapper around native dlls. The problem is, with the .NET compilation and execution process, the dlls get shadow copied to a temporary folder. Unfortunately, only the .NET dlls, and not the native dll. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms366723.aspx for details. Now, this makes it necessary to put the unmanaged dll somewhere into the system32 directory (or any other directory in the path environment variable). Now, I want to change the wrapper/native dll (opensource), so it loads the dll also if they are only in the bin folder. Now, my problem is, how can I, in .NET, load an unmanaged dll from an absolute path ? The absolute path is determined at runtime, not at compile-time...

  Hi all, I have got a question with regards to upgrading asp.net mvc applications from v1 to v2... I've noticed in the ASP.NET MVC v2 Release notes that we need to add this code (please see below) when upgrading, but it did not state what would be the purpose of it because I've tried experimenting some of my apps to asp.net mvc 2 without adding this particular section in web.config. <runtime> <assemblyBinding xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1"> <dependentAssembly> <assemblyIdentity name="System.Web.Mvc" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35"/> <bindingRedirect oldVersion="1.0.0.0" newVersion="2.0.0.0"/> </dependentAssembly> </assemblyBinding> </runtime> Would there be implications should I not place this? • Caspol, VMs, Mapped Drives, VS2010

  Hi I have a VM (Win7 32 bit) with VS2010 installed. I have a drive mapped into it from the host machine (VM 64 bit), when I have some of my VS2010 projects and to where I am building them. One of my projects is looking to load an assembly. If I copy that assembly to a local drive, the program ruins fine. If I leave it on the mapped drive, then I get an error Exception is: FileLoadException - Could not load file or assembly 'file:///Z:\BusinessTier\bin\Debug\BusinessTier.dll I am unsure whether or not I need to run Caspol. There is another post on SO which pointed me to a post which indicated that VS2008 SP1+ removed the need for caspol wrt network drives, but I wondered if I still needed to because I am in a VM. I have tried running the following on the host machine in an attempt to give permissions to VS inside the VM, but to no avail C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30128>caspol -m -ag 1.2 -url file://g:\* FullTrust where g:* is the drive being mapped into the VM (as drive z:) What am I missing (apart from understanding!)   Hello,I'm up against a problem when loading a class in a managed library from a COM Interop library. basically I have some Unmanaged C++ code and a COM Interop library written in C#. And finally a 3rd library which is referenced by the COM Interop library which contains a class: public class MyClass{ public MyClass(){} } What I'd like to do is from my unmanaged c++ code, call a function in the Interop library The C++ code doesn't need to know of the existence of the third library, it's only used within the Interop. Init(){ MyClass _class = new MyClass(); } for some reason this line in Init fails "MyClass _class = new MyClass();", and I don't get very usefull error messages, all I have to go on is a few of these in my output window: "First-chance exception at 0x7c812afb in DotNet_Com_Call.exe: Microsoft C++ exception: [rethrow] at memory location 0x00000000.." and the HRESULT of the "HRESULT hr = pDotNetCOMPtr-Init();" line in my C++ code is "The system cannot find the specified file" I'm new to COM so if anyone has any ideas or pointer to get me going the right direction, I'd appreciate it, Thanks

• Sharepoint SSO bulk creation of user accounts

  Hopefully someone can help... I need to provide client with a solution to allow bulk creation of user accounts into SharePoint SSO. The client wants to provide an excel spreadsheet with accounts, usernames and passwords and have that created in the SSO database. I've been told its possible but I can't see how and google is failing me. I've been told its "some custom development and the SharePoint object model". As far as I can see all of the credentials stuff in the Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal.SingleSignon namespace is very much read only. I have a solution which is to get them to save the spreadsheet as a CSV file and to use jmeter to squirt the data in through the front end. I don't think that's really an acceptable solution though. Anyone got any clues? Or can anyone say definitively this can't be done? Thanks in advance...

  I am trying to compile a program I took off a cd from a book that uses directx to render 3d objects. when i press compile I get the following error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'dxerr9.h': No such file or directory I am using VC++ 2008 Express Edition and i am running off of Vista. I went to the following folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\Include and I was not able to find the header there. Unless I am looking in the wrong place. When I initially installed DX sdk I allowed the installer to put everything in a default location. I am not sure If I am looking in the right places or what.

• Copying Pasting Word 2007 docs to HTML WYSIWYG editors

  Microsoft word has a ton of proprietary formatting and styles that do not translate well to html WYSIWYG editors. When you paste them over to the html editor and try to edit the pasted info it causes all kinds of clashing styles. I want to be able to keep the general structure but leave out the proprietary stuff. Essentially I want to save clients the headache of having to completely strip out all formatting forcing them to redo all the styling again in the WYSIWYG, but at the same time avoid the conflicts that Word formatting creates. Any ideas?

Is it shipped with OS like XP, Vista, etc. I am using WPF application having TIFF image, which is having some issues ie the image is showing black with certain height; someone on the forum suggested that it might be the issue with WIC version 1. Can anybody please tell me how to find the Version of WIC.   I'm looking for a visual regression testing tool for CSS refactoring and see whether or not there are any unintended cascading behavior in a website. Ideally, the tool that can crawl a website (even locally) and grab snapshots of each page and store it in a single repository. When run for the second time, it will show the pages that are visually different since the last time it was run. Even better: if it can show the overlapper XOR view of the 2 version of the page. compare rendering results of different browsers (almost like an automated Microsoft Expression Web compare feature).   I am in need of a Flash swf that is capable of loading PCM WAV files via a url passed to it. An example of the file can be found here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff512405.aspx The swf does not need a visible interface, as it is meant for audio playing only and not user interaction. The swf should have a simple javascript interface for page-level interactions. These include: load(url): loads a PCM WAV file over the internet using the url that is passed through it. play(): Should play the PCM WAV file that was loaded stop(): Should stop playing the current file. I can provide a sample audio file that matches the specifications if the developer is unable to obtain a url from the link posted above.
