• FBA and audience targeting in sharepoint 2007

  I want to use audience targeting feature for webpart with FBA. I tried to add FBA user directly in sharepoint group or added the user to a asp.net role and then added the role to sharepoint group, but both failed. My observation is that all FBA users can see the webpart content no matter whether they are specified in audience targeting or not. After googling it, I found there are three different conclusion about this, FBA cannot be used with audience targeting FBA can be used with audience targeting FBA can be used with audience targeting if the FBA user is added directly to sharepoint group May I know which is the correct explanation? Where can I find official Microsoft documentation regarding to this problem?

• Why does a ModalPopupExtender fail when using SSL?

  I have created a modal popup using the ModalPopupExtender in Microsoft's AJAX 1.0 for .NET 2.0. It works great when the page doesn't isn't being accessed through SSL (http://) however the link to close the popup fails to fire if accessing the page through https://. Is the ModalPopupExtender at blame? Is it a "Feature" of SSL to block popups, or is it something else I haven't though of? • Best Practices - Data Annotations vs OnChanging in Entity Framework 4

  I was wondering what the general recommendation is for Entity Framework in terms of data validation. I am relatively new to EF, but it appears there are two main approaches to data validation. The first is to create a partial class for the model, and then perform data validations and update a rule violation collection of some sort. This is outlined at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc716747.aspx The other is to use data annotations and then have the annotations perform data validation. Scott Guthrie explains this on his blog at http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2010/01/15/asp-net-mvc-2-model-validation.aspx. I was wondering what the benefits are of one over the other. It seems the data annotations would be the preferred mechanism, especially as you move to RIA Services, but I want to ensure I am not missing something. • MathML or OMML to PNG w/ .NET?

  Are there any libraries which take MathML (or, even more preferably, OMML) and outputs a .PNG file? I am putting together an export process for .docx files and, as a part of this process, I'd like to extract equations and render them as .PNG files. Word 2007 does this natively when you save a document for the web, but so far, I have not been able to find a way to do this programmatically (if anyone has an answer for that, it would be even better). So the next best thing is to take the OMML and use the Microsoft provided XSL stylesheets and transform them to MathML. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any (working) rendering libraries for either MathML or OMML. If there aren't any pure .NET libraries for this, I'll settle for just about anything that I can call from a commandline to output a .PNG from either MathML or OMML.

• Response.TransmitFile() with UNC share (ASP.NET)

  In the comments of this page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/12s31dhy.aspx ..it says that TransmitFile() cannot be used with UNC shares. As far as I can tell, this is the case; I get this error in Event Log when I attempt it: TransmitFile failed. File Name: \\myshare1\e$\file.zip, Impersonation Enabled: 0, Token Valid: 1, HRESULT: 0x8007052e The suggested alternative is to use WriteFile(), however, this is problematic because it loads the file into memory. In my application, the files are 200MB, so this is not going to scale. Is there a method in ASP.NET for streaming files to users that's: scalable (doesn't read entire file into RAM or occupy ASP.NET threads) works with UNC shares Mapping a network drive as a virtual directory is not an option for us. I would like to avoid copying the file to the local web server as well. Thanks

  Hello all, I have managed to get info about the currently logged in user on my webpart by using this short code; WindowsPrincipal p = Thread.CurrentPrincipal as WindowsPrincipal; string strLoggedInUser = p.Identity.Name; What I would need now, is to get info of Employeer-ID atribute from the active directory, wich I have added by following this quide over here; http://www.tech-archive.net/Archive/Windows/microsoft.public.windows.server.active_directory/2005-08/msg01766.html I have found serval of quides about how to use active directory on the webpart, but they all were very complex for me to understand. And I only wish to get info about this single attribute "Employeers-ID". Can anyone help me with this? Thanks in advance!

  I have read around the net that its possible to debug VBScript WSH files Visual Studios 2005 Express (I think Web Edition) but everytime I try cscript.exe myscript.vbs //X the script just executes. I have tried VS Express 2005, 2008 and 2010 all editions. I have also tried Visual Studios Premium 2010 which does infact debug scripts as I would expect however I want to be able to debug scripts with free tools (I don't want to get a VS 2010 licence for all the other people on my team). I know about Microsoft Script Debugger but it doesn't let you discover objects as well as Visual studios does.

  Hello. I`v made my custom NewForm.aspx for my list and I want to add some custom code to it. So I inherit that form from my own class: public class MyCustomNewForm : Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.WebPartPage Now I want to reference some of available fields to automatically fill them for user. (Javascript won't help here as I have to get some data from other lists). But I have no idea how do I reference these fields from codebehind files. The code for control field is written (well, it was generated by Sharepoint Designer when using command Insert SharePoint Controls Custom List Form...) in .aspx page like this: <SharePoint:FormField runat="server" id="ff1{$Pos}" ControlMode="New" FieldName="Title" __designer:bind="{ddwrt:DataBind('i',concat('ff1',$Pos),'Value','ValueChanged','ID',ddwrt:EscapeDelims(string(@ID)),'@Title')}"/> When looking at id at runtime, it is insanely long So how do i reference fields, so I could set Text property on them in my codebehind file?

  Hi all, I am writing a test application for Microsoft CryptoAPI. I want to export the secret key of one party using the public key of the second party, and then import that secret key as the second party's secret key (this sets up a shared secret key for communication).   I have an ASP.Net questionnaire application that resubmits data to the same page, showing a different question each time. There are BACK and NEXT buttons to navigate between questions. I would like to detect when the form is submitted due to a browser refresh vs. one of the buttons being pressed. I came across a WebForms approach but don't know how to apply those principals in an MVC 2 application since page events aren't available (as far as I know... I'm pretty new to Microsoft's MVC model). How would one apply that principle to MVC 2? Is there a better way to detect refresh?

  I'm using the ACE OLEDB driver to read from an Excel 2007 spreadsheet, and I'm finding that any '.' character in column names get converted to a '#' character. For example, if I have the following in a spreadsheet: Name Amt. • Can you use the Phoenix compiler as a more powerful NGEN?

  In case you don't know of Phoenix, it's a compiler framework from Microsoft that's apparantly going to be the foundation of all their new compilers. It can read in code from CIL, x86, x64, and IA64; and emit code in x86, x64, IA64, or CIL. Can I use it to transform a pure .Net app into a pure native app? By which I mean, it will not have to load any .Net .dll (not even mscoree), and will have the same semantics? This is excluding Reflection, of course.

  In MSVC++ I have a vector. Whenever you go out of bounds of the vector (in debug mode, launched as "Start Debugging"), when you step out of bounds of the vector the program halts with a dialog box: Microsoft Visual C++ Debug Library ==== Debug Assertion Failed! Expression: Vector subscript out of range Abort | Retry | Ignore So what I want though is the MSVC++ debugger within visual studio to STOP AT THE LINE WHERE THE OUT OF BOUNDS OCCURRED, not give me this dialog box. How can I cause the program to "break" properly and be able to step through code /inspect variables when an out of bounds occurs on an STL vector?

This template applies a CustomerView to an instance of the CustomerViewModel class shown in the main window. <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type vm:CustomerViewModel}"> <vw:CustomerView /> </DataTemplate> I substituted the angle brackets for square brackets - not sure how to post them. The code is in the MainWindowResourses.xaml and the code starts on line 19. Anyone know how I can do this in Silverlight ?? We don't have the DataType and I need to be able to tell the app that this View is associated with this ViewModel - so I can create a tab control with different view like the demo app. Cheers, EC

I've been trying to create Windows sidebar gadget with button controls that look like circles (I have couple of "roundish" png images). The behavior, I want, is the following: when the mouse hovers over the image it gets larger a bit. When we click on it, then it goes down and up. When we leave the button's image it becomes normal sized again. Cause I'm going to have couple of such controls I decided to implement custom control: like a button but with image and no content text. My problem is that I'm not able to set my custom properties in my template and style. What am I doing wrong? • web.config inheritance problem

  Hello everyone, I am having an issue when I try and prevent inhertiance from a parent web.config down to a child specifically related to the node. My parent web.config contains about a dozen appSettings values while my child web.config contains none. Now, I originally began wrapping around only my system.net, web, etc nodes however when I ran my child application I recieved the following error: The configuration section 'appSettings' cannot be read because it is missing a section declaration I really wasn't sure what this meant and a google search didn't yield me any decent results so I attempted to move the location node to also encompass the field in my parent web.config but to no avail. My child web.config is pretty vanilla so I am not sure what the problem is. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
