• Input checkbox name converts period signs into underlines on post

  Hello I am working on an image gallery at the moment. When a user is logged in, an x appears over each image and a checkbox next to it to enable the user to delete that image. Only if the checkbox is checked will the image be deleted. They are both in a (one for each image in the gallery), the small image "x.gif" is an input type="image" that submits the $_POST form. The checkbox inherits the name of the image and is to prevent accidentally pressing the x button and deleting an image. The problem is that the checkbox name, upon posting it gets converted from (for instance) "Image.jpg" to "Image_jpg" When i test it with print_r($_POST); Should I create code for replacing _jpg or _gif into .jpg and .gif after the post or is there a way to make it possible to use period signs in input names? Any help is greatly appreciated.

• Showing custom model validation exceptions in the Django admin site.

  I have a booking model that needs to check if the item being booked out is available. I would like to have the logic behind figuring out if the item is available centralised so that no matter where I save the instance this code validates that it can be saved. At the moment I have this code in a custom save function of my model class: def save(self): if self.is_available(): # my custom check availability function super(MyObj, self).save() else: # this is the bit I'm stuck with.. raise forms.ValidationError('Item already booked for those dates') This works fine - the error is raised if the item is unavailable, and my item is not saved. I can capture the exception from my front end form code, but what about the Django admin site? How can I get my exception to be displayed like any other validation error in the admin site?

• CakePHP: How can I disable auto-increment on Model.id?

  CakePHP 1.3.0, mysqli I have a model, Manifest, whose ID should be the unique number from a printed form. However, with Manifest.id set as the primary key, CakePHP is helping me by setting up auto-increment on the field. Is there a way to flag the field via schema.php and/or elsewhere to disable auto-increment? I need just a plain, old primary key without it. The only other solution I can imagine is adding on a separate manifest number field and changing foreign keys in a half dozen other tables. A bit wasteful and not as intuitive.

So I want to move files over ftp (which already works) Because of performance reasons I chose this process to run in the background so I use nfcftpput (linux) In CLI the following command works perfectly: ncftpput-b-u name -p password -P 1980 127.0.0.1 /upload/ /home/Downloads/upload.zip (Knowing that the b-parameter triggers background process) But if I run it via PHP it does not work (without the-b parameter it does) PHP code: $cmd = "ncftpput -b -u name -p password -P 1980 127.0.0.1 /upload/ /home/Downloads/upload.zip"; $return = exec($cmd);

• How do I validate that a list box is not empty (client side)

  I'm working with ASP.NET 3.5. I have a list box that users must add items to (I've written the code for this). My requirement is that at least one item must be added to the listbox or they cannot submit the form. I have several other validators on the page and they all write to a ValidationSummary control. I would like this listbox validation to write to the Validation Summary control as well. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

What characters can I display in url, I know that spaces I should convert to undescore: " "-"_" and before it - underscores to something else, for example: ""-"()" It is easy make title from url back. But what in my specific title can be all characters from keyboard, even : @#%:"{/\';. Are some contraindications to don't use this characters in URL? Important for me is: -easy generate url and title from url back (without queries to database) -each title are unique, so url must be too -SEO friendly URLs

  I am integrating bing maps into a web page. I am calling the GetDirections() method of my VEMap option. and setting the VERouteOptions.ShowDisambiguation property to true when I call VEMap.GetDirections(). So sometimes I get the following dialog: The problem is sometimes the user will enter a second set of directions into my form, and dialog remains. I've done the following to attempt to correct it: // In case the disambiguation dialog a.k.a "" is present from a previous direction search var disambiguationDialogElement = $('#myMap_veplacelistpanel')[0]; if (typeof (disambiguationDialogElement) == "object") { map.DeleteControl(disambiguationDialogElement); } It seems to work, but it feels like a suboptomial approach.   I am developing a personal blog in ASP.NET MVC 1.0. This blog application has Views like "Insert Post", "Edit Post", etc. I need to post a string containing HTML back to the appropriate controller method. That HTML value is being posted from a textarea. I've read that it's necessary to disable ValidateRequest directly on the page with the attribute ValidateRequest = "false" or in the web.config file. When I insert an HTML value in my textarea, I get always the error of 'potential value dangerous'. How can I use ValidateRequest to allow the form element containing HTML values to be posted?

I would like to create a "feedback" tab that when you click on that, it opens a form. For example, you can check the railscast website, http://railscasts.com/. • Active Index is not being persisted in jQuery accordion change event

  I have an asp.net aspx page and on that page I have a hidden input field with and id of paneIndex. However, when I load the page, the alert shows index 1 which is correct on the first load, but if I open up pane 3 for example, the alert shows 1 still. Am I doing something wrong? • Two-key encryption/decryption?

  I'm looking to store some fairly sensitive data using PHP and MySQL and will be using some form of reversible encryption to do so since I need to get the data back out in plain text for it to be of any use. I'll be deriving the encryption key from the users' username/password combination but I'm stumped for what to do in the (inevitable) event of a password being forgotten. I realise that the purpose of encryption is that it can only be undone using the correct key but this must have been addressed before.. I'm trying to get my head around whether or not public key cryptography would apply to the problem but all I can think of is that the private key will still need to be correct to decrypt the data.. Any ideas?

• d3 tree - parents having same children

  I've been transitioning my code from JIT to D3, and working with the tree layout. I've replicated http://mbostock.github.com/d3/talk/20111018/tree.html with my tree data, but I wanted to do a little more. In my case I will need to create child nodes that merge back to form a parent at a lower level, which I realize is more of a directed graph structure, but would like the tree to accomodate (i.e. notice that common id's between child nodes should merge). So basically a tree that divides like normal on the way from parents to children, but then also has the ability to bring those children nodes together to be parents (sort of an incestual relationship or something :)). Asks something similar - How to layout a non-tree hierarchy with D3 It sounds like I might be able to use hierarchical edge bundling in conjunction with the tree hierarchy layout, but I haven't seen that done. I might be a little off with that though.

• PHP/Codeigniter processing a list with javascript

  I have a list of items that the user can select. I want it to be more user friendly than standard checkboxes so I have seperate div's each with a unique id. When user clicks an item, I use javascript to display a tick on top of that item and change the style to show that it is highlighted. Im trying to work out how I can pass the list of id's when the form is submitted. Remember, if the user unticks an item, it should be removed from the list, I was thinking of using comma seperated values in a hidden text field but couldnt work out how to remove items from the start of the list if they were deselected

• How to diagnose, and reverse (not prevent) Unicode mangling

  Somewhere upstream of me, "something" happened that looks like unicode mangling. One symptom is that a lowercase u umlaut (ü) gets converted to "ü" (ie, character FC gets converted to C3 BC). Assuming that I have no control over this upstream process, how can I reverse-engineer what's going on? And if that is possible, can I crank the sausage machine backwards and get the original text back? (If it helps to understand this case, the text I received was in the form of a MySQL dump. I think somwewhere in the dump/transport process it got mangled.)

  This is a really basic regex question but since I can't seem to figure out why the match is failing in certain circumstances I figured I'd post it to see if anyone else can point out what I'm missing.   It has been a practically unanimous truth on StackOverflow that if you work as an independent consultant, you should probably form a corporation (as seen here), to limit personal liability, supposedly to protect you in case of lawsuit. It seems to me that developing software does not result in many lawsuits, but this is an empirical (objective [and not community wiki]) question: How likely is it that a lone software developer will be sued? Also, by whom (a disgruntled company, coworker)? Since incorporating is basically taking out insurance, the likelihood of catastrophe needs to be taken into account. Also, aren't there standard laws covering, for example, total screw-ups with corporate data that mean that protect the lone cowboy/girl/person/coder?

• VB.NET - cannot get Video Preview to work

  Hi, Overflow. I have an application which is supposed to convert a video via DirectShowSource. I have a checkbox which enables a button called "btnviewcrop" which shows a new form called crp.vb for cropping/shearing pixels off the video. Now, I have a Panel1 that I want to set as the owner (the video drawing surface) but when I set it to open, the application crashes (Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.) and I do not understand how to fix it. • Does GAE/OpenID/OAuth support xmlhttp proxy?

  Currently, my code would construct the GWT form, which user would submit directly to openId (or any authenticaiton service). Such a method works fine. However, what if I had the gwt page server access the OpenID provider, is there a way/strategy for the server to mediate authentication between its client and the auth provider? I wish to know the answers with respect to GAE as the proxy and, regardless if GAE or Tomcat is the intended proxy, answers wrt Google Accounts OpenID OAuth If so, it would be wonderful if someone could describe the installation strategy.

  I'm working through a book on Ruby, and the author used a slightly different form for writing a class initialization definition than he has in previous sections of the book. It looks like this: class Ticket attr_accessor :venue, :date def initialize(venue, date) self.venue = venue self.date = date end end In previous sections of the book, it would've been defined like this: class Ticket attr_accessor :venue, :date def initialize(venue, date) @venue = venue @date = date end end Is there any functional difference between using the setter method, as in the first example vs. using the instance variable in the second?
