  • Handle filename with spaces inside Bash-script

    In my Bash-script i have to handle filenames with spaces. These are the important lines inside my script: mp3file="/media/d/Music/zz_Hardcore/Sampler/Punk-O-Rama\ Vol.5\ \[MP3PRO\]/01\ -\ Nofx\ -\ Pump\ up\ the\ Valium.mp3" echo "Command: mp3info -x `echo $mp3file`" mp3info -x `echo $mp3file` Unfortunately, the command does not work, because the filename is splitted: mp3info: invalid option -- '\' mp3info: invalid option -- '\' Error opening MP3: /media/d/Music/zz_Hardcore/Sampler/Punk-O-Rama\: No such file or directory Error opening MP3: Vol.5\: No such file or directory Error opening MP3: \[MP3PRO\]/01\: No such file or directory Error opening MP3: Nofx\: No such file or directory Error opening MP3: Pump\: No such file or directory Error opening MP3: up\: No such file or directory Error opening MP3: the\: No such file or directory Error opening MP3: Valium.mp3: No such file or directory I also tried to add a custom IFS as i read on some forums: SAVEIFS=$IFS IFS=$(echo -en "\n\b") # Script like above IFS=$SAVEIFS But this way, i'm getting the error Error opening MP3: /media/d/Music/zz_Hardcore/Sampler/Punk-O-Rama\ Vol.5\ \[MP3PRO\]/01\ -\ Nofx\ -\ Pump\ up\ the\ Valium.mp3: No such file or directory I tried quite a while now but i cannot get my script to work. What is strange is that if i'm running the same command that my script should create manually (echoing it inside my script) on the Shell, it actually works. But not inside my script. Any hints?

  • Windows Start Menu Not Staying on Top

    Hey everyone. I've had this problem since Windows Vista. I did a clean install with Windows 7 and hoped it would fix the problem. Also swapped out the video card just to rule out a strange driver issue. Here's what's happening. After running for some period of time (usually a few hours), the Start button/orb will loose it's "Chrome" and turn into a plain button that just says "Start." It will work fine for a while, but then the start menu will just stop showing. Additionally, when I hit Win+D to show the desktop, the entire taskbar completely disappears. I can get it back usually by moving/minimizing windows that may be overlapping where the start menu should show. Otherwise, it requires either a full reboot or I'll end up killing & restarting the explorer.exe process.   • Megacli is killing me, any help appreciated

    I run a server with 2 drives in raid0 configured through BIOS. I just added 2 more drives using hotplug (the server is dell r610 with RHEL 5.4 64bit) and I would like to configure a separate raid0 partition on these drives. I am getting the following error: /opt/MegaRAID/MegaCli/MegaCli64 -CfgLdAdd r0[32:2, 32:3] -a0 The specified physical disk does not have the appropriate attributes to complete the requested command.   • Couldn't upload files to Sharepoint site while passing through Squid Proxy

    Hi all, we have this issue: one of our employees is collaborating with a supplier and he needs to upload documents on a Sharepoint site hosted on the supplier's main site. In our environment we use Squid Proxy to allow people navigate on the net (we have NTLM authentication and users transparently authenticate while using IE and FF). It seems that this specific Sharepoint site is using Integrated Windows Authentication only, and according to some research on the net it seems that this can have troubles with proxies. More specifically, we have tried two Squid versions: with Squid 3.0 we are unable to login to the site (the browser loads an empty page) with Squid 2.7 (that supports "Connection Pinning") we are able to login into the site, move on the different sections BUT.. when we try to upload a file that is bigger than a couple of KiloBytes (i.e. 10KB) the browser loads an error page (i think it's a 401 unauthorized but i must verify it) we've tried changing a couple of Squid options (in 2.7), what we got is that when you try to upload the file you got an authentication box (just like the initial login) and it refuses to go on even if you enter the same authentication credentials. What's really strange is that when you try to upload a small file (i.e. a text or binary 1KB file) the upload succeeds.   • Drop outs when accessing share by DFS name.

    I have a strange problem, aren't they all! I have a DFS root \domain\files\vms, it has a single target on a different server than the namespace. I can copy a test file set from the target directly via \server\vms$\testfiles and all is well, the files copy fine. I have repeated these tests many times. If I try and copy the files from the dfs root I get big pauses in the network traffic, about 50 seconds every couple of minutes, all the traffic just stops for the copy. If I start another copy between the same two machines during this pause, it starts copying fine, so I know it's not an issue with the disks on the server. Every once in a while the copy will fail, no errors, the progress bar will just zip all the way to 100% and the copy dialog will close. Checking the target folder show that the copy is incomplete. I've moved the LUN to another server and had the same problem. The servers are all 2008 R2, the clients are Vista x64, Windows7 x64 and 2008 R2, all have the same problem. Anyone got any ideas?   • Is there any way to tweak / rotate mouse orientation? Any applications? Registry edits?

    I've got a very frustrating issue with my new Logitech Marathon Mouse M705. It is absolutely perfect for what I need, with the exception that it tracks on an angle for some reason. What I mean is when you slide the cursor to the left, it trends upward - when you slide to the right, it trends down. Moving the cursor along a flat horizontal line is no longer a natural motion - you need to fight what I suspect is a mechanical error of some kind. Unfortunately, I've already exchanged this mouse once and tested both on different Windows 7 and Mac OS machines - the problem continues to occur. So is there a software solution for me? I'm incredibly surprised there is no simple way to adjust the orientation... How can every mouse manufacturer possibly adjust their hardware to track to everyone's tastes? What about those who need to flip orientation a full 90 or 180 degrees? I only need to adjust mine a few degrees, but I'm sure that need has arisen as well. Anyway, I'm running the latest SetPoint drivers (6.00) on Windows 7 and there are no orientation options available. I've checked out uberOptions (http://uberoptions.net/) and the M705 isn't supported yet (with the last version update over 6 months ago). MAF Mouse (http://www.maf-soft.de/mafmouse/) instructions are a very strange series of mouse clicks to activate? This app also seems a little overkill and costs $$ (which I'm willing to pay as a last resort). Is there no universal registry value for mouse orientation? How about for SetPoint drivers specifically? I've done a simple search in regedit without any luck. An XML file somewhere? Anything?? Thanks a million for any help - it's driving me nuts!

  • How does Microsoft Word And Excel Run without any installation?

    I was having a discussion on bookmarks in Word with a friend, and he suggested me to check out his implementation of a query in Word. Since I did not have Microsoft Word installed, I told him I don't have Word so I won't be able to test it. To this, he mentioned that he'll send the executables and it will work - I argued that without an installation this will fail. I was rather shocked when he sent me the standalone executables and on running them, Word actually launched and I was able to use almost every functionality o_0 How's this possible? I've never installed Microsoft Office on my system, this isn't any "portable" app or VMWare ThinStall ( thanks nhinkle, didn't know about this). There are absolutely no Microsoft Office related files - except for winword.exe and excel.exe. Curiously even Microsoft Excel works fine with just the standalone executable. winword.exe size is about 38 MB, and excel.exe size is just 35kb, which makes it even more strange.     Right, this is strange. I am connecting from my laptop (LMDE) to a remote host (SUSE linux enterprise) using ssh -X. I want to launch a firefox instance running on the remote server so I can have access to webpages on a private network. User@RemoteMachine $ which -a firefox /usr/bin/firefox User@RemoteMachine $ /usr/bin/firefox --version Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.2, Copyright (c) 1998 - 2007 mozilla.org User@LocalMachine $ which -a firefox /usr/bin/firefox User@LocalMachine $ /usr/bin/firefox --version Mozilla Firefox 14.0.1 Now, if firefox is not running on the local machine, everything goes as expected and executing firefox on the remote machine causes a firefox (v 2.0) window running on the remote machine to show up. However, if firefox is running on the local machine a second window of firefox 14.0.1 running on the local machine appears. I have checked top in both machines. In the 2nd case, a firefox process briefely appears on the remote machine and then disappears when the local version of firefox is launched. My questions are the following: What gives? How/why can firefox connect to its existing instance on the local machine? The remote machine appears to have access to the local machine. It, in fact, appears to have the right to execute programs on my local machine. Am I missing something or is this just weird? Is this not a security risk?

    We have an application here using handhelds to scan barcodes. These handhelds are actually making a remote desktop session towards a server where the application runs. Works fine. Now we have bought some new Motorola MC55's running 'Windows Mobile 6.1 Classic', and when using the application over remote desktop: it mangles the characters of the barcodes.... I already tried following things: When scanning a barcode on the MC55 itself it is displayed correctly When scanning a barcode via the remote desktop into a notepad session it is incorrect. Played with all options of the 'Remote Desktop Mobile' - no result Disabled 'autocorrect' and 'suggest words when entering text' on the input settings - no result The strange things is: a barcode which consists of only numbers gets scanned correctly the mangled characters comes through in lower case For some codes \t is mangled in between (should normally be entered after the barcode) e.g.: 'PERIN4' becomes 'ERINp4' 'MGZB' becomes 'GZB m' 'BAK664' becomes 'AK664 b' 'MAGBFA01' becomes 'AGBFmA01' '5021879949500' gets scanned correctly Final solution: Suppllier of the handhelds said the handheld was sending the characters too fast over the remote desktop connection. They changed the handheld to wait for 50ms between sending each character, which produced correct results right now. Scanning a barcode became somewhat slower but it's almost not remarkable to endusers.

In my opinion everything is ok. Does anyone know of this error and know what the possible cause would be.   • .htaccess Permission denied. Unable to check htaccess file

    I have a strange problem when adding a sub-domain to our virtual server. I have done similar sub-domains before and they have worked fine. When I try to access the sub-domain I get an 403 Forbidden error. I checked the error logs and have the following error: pcfg_openfile: unable to check htaccess file, ensure it is readable I've searched Google and could only find solutions regarding file and folder permissions, that I have checked and the solution isn't solved. I also saw problems with Frontpage Extensions, but that's not installed on the server. Edit Forgot to say that there isn't a .htaccess file in the directory of the sub-domain Edit #2 Still not been able to find a solution on this. Only things I have been able to find out is: It doesn't seem to be a problem with any .htaccess files (I've tried creating blank ones, with correct user privileges). It doesn't seem to be a problem with any folder permissions as they are all set correct. There isn't a problem with the way the sub-domain has been set up, as I've tried pointing the DocumentRoot to another folder and it worked fine. I've also done sub-domains fine before with no problem. Edit #3 Find out more information. I don't think it can be a file permission problem now, because if I access it by going to the server ip and then the directory where the site is hosted it all works fine (minus the stylesheets & images, which is just down to how they are linked)

  • Why am I getting a warning that windows is logging on with a temporary profile to run a task scheduler task?

    I am having a strange problem with the Windows Server 2008 Task Scheduler. I have to run a small command-line application every few minutes. This application just executes a quick web service call on the localhost and adds an entry to a log file; so it should not need anything special in terms of permissions. First, I created a new user account "my_scheduler" just for the task. This account is a member of the Users group (not sure what other settings I should turn on/off) and set it's password to not expire. I then create a task to run the application every few minutes. I set it to "Run whether user is logged on or not" and turned on "Do not store password. The task will only have access to local resources" (I did this since it's not hitting anything on the network. I did not turn on "Run with highest privileges" since it does not seem to need them. I set the schedule to "After triggered, repeat every 30 minutes for a duration of 1 day" and "Allow task to be run on demand" (no other settings enabled). However, I notice that in the Event Log, I see a bunch of these warnings whenever the task is run: "Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off." Even though I get the warning, the task is executing (I see the log entries appearing). Another (possibly related) issue is that I also see that it's starting multiple copies of the task (within a few seconds of each other) even though it should only start one. This is also a big problem. Any idea how I can fix this? Thanks in advance, Dan

  • Crazy problem with Nginx, PHP5-FPM on Ubuntu

    I've been trying to get a domain from shared hosting to my new VPS. Everything was working just 100% fine, and then all of a sudden rewrites stopped working, pictures that should work started returning 404s. I've got no idea why, but for some reason on my site: http://www.onlythebible.com/ only the home page works, all the other pages depend on rewrites which were working perfectly fine at one stage, but all of a sudden stopped working. Some of the pictures like this url: http://www.onlythebible.com/bgsPreview/Matthew-8.10.jpg which doesn't use a rewrite throws a 404? I almost certain it was nothing to do with the nginx configuration. I've got suspicions that it could be something to do with php5-fpm? The funny thing is, all of a sudden it started working again. And then an hour or so later it broke again and has now gone back to only displaying the home-page and all of the links (and some of the pictures) are just showing 404s. Does anyone have an idea of what the problem might be? I'm pretty new to the whole Linux VPS thing, but this just seems very strange. *edit Here's a line from the error log which might shed some light on the problem: 2011/02/06 03:04:59 [error] 2873#0: *220 open() "/usr/local/nginx/html/bgsPreview/Matthew-8.10.jpg" failed (2: No such file or directory), client: 114.77.115.211, server: onlythebible.com, request: "GET /bgsPreview/Matthew-8.10.jpg HTTP/1.1", host: "www.onlythebible.com", referrer: "http://www.onlythebible.com/" I wonder why it's trying to find the file in /usr/local/nginx/html instead of the proper root which is /var/www/ etc... But when I edited the database, the pages didn't change... It's almost like they've been cached or something.

  • Non-functioning AutoFilter on Locked Cells in Office 2008 - works in Office 2007

    I'm looking into a problem for someone, who works in a mixed OS environment. She has created an Excel spreadsheet in Office 2007 to act as a directory, with AutoFilter turned on for names, email addresses, departments etc. To make sure no one accidentally edits email addresses (for example), she has protected the work sheet. Accessing this worksheet on a PC running Excel 2007, everything runs as you'd expect. You can filter the sheet by any of the auto-filtered columns, and because the sheet is protected, the data integrity is guaranteed. However, if you access the sheet on a Mac running Excel 2008, you can't filter the columns. What's strange here is that the AutoFilter dropdown arrows do appear in each of the column headers as you would expect. It's just that nothing happens if you click on them. If you select one of the column header cells (say, 'First Name') and check the menu: Data-Filter, you can see that AutoFilter is ticked. As another datapoint, you also seem to be able to apply an Advanced filter to these rows on the protected sheets. Does anyone know why this might be? It seems to be a compatibility issue between Excel 2007/2008 (I know the codebase isn't the same), but I can't find any references to it in documentation or forums anywhere, and it would be good to know if there's a way around this. Also I have tried allowing all the unprivileged ports, as box1 uses thoses for doing ssh to box2. Any hints? (If the whole setup seems strange to you - the point of the exercise is to understand iptables ;))

  • Why is usable RAM less than total RAM?

    My girlfriend bought a laptop last week. It's a core 2 duo with 4 GB We installed vista 64bit, and one of the first things we did was right click on "My computer" to see gthe properties. Immediately we noticed something strange about her RAM, the line said: Installed memory (RAM): 4,00 GB (3,68 GB usable) I told her not to worry, thinking it must be something about the laptop hardware (considering her vista installation came from the same DVD as mine, and I never noticed anything like that on my 4 GB desktop). One hour ago, it got worse. We looked at Properties again, and it now says: Installed memory (RAM): 4,00 GB (2,98 GB usable) What does that mean? Are those 1,02 GB missing or being used by the system? EDIT: There is a possibility that the sytem information is wrong. I just noticed that it reports an intel T6500 processor, when it's actually a T6400. How can I find out how much RAM is really available to the system? EDIT2: Checking the resource monitors, it says 1003 MB are reserved for the hardware. Is that good or bad? Thanks

    I have a web project(.Net4) that needs to access Excel file, but it ends up with the following error message: Error occured during file generation.Microsoft Excel cannot access the file 'D:\xx\xx\abc.xls'. There are several possible reasons: • The file name or path does not exist. (Actually it's there) • The file is being used by another program.(It cant happen) • The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook. In IIS7, I use DefaultAppPool with the Identity "myservice" who's under the Group of Administrators. In the Authentication Page of my website under IIS, Anonymous Authentication was enabled and set to "Application pool identity" and ASP.NET Impersonation was disabled. After searching the solution for hours, I found the following but NONE of them work Create folder in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile\Desktop. Plz refer:this Grant rights of "myservice" in Component Services. Plz refer:this One thing strange, there is nothing in the Group of IIS_IUSRS. Is that normal? Cause I remember at least two users (DefaultAppPool & Classic .Net AppPool). Plz tell me how to fix the access problem. I assume that's permission problem of IIS but I cant solve it. Thank you.

    I have question about strange behavior of my openVPN configuration on Debian lenny. I have 2 server configs (one proto tcp-server based and one proto udp based). ISP bandwidth is 7Mbit/7Mbit. When I uses proto tcp-server my download server rate is fine around 6,4 Mbit/s, but upload rate is about 3Mbit/s. When I uses proto udp, my download server rate is around 3Mbit/s and upload rate around 6,4Mbit/s. I tried to handle the MTU, MSSFIX and cipher on/off on server and client configs to synchronize rates, but without solution.   • linux nooB: Installing ffmpeg + dependencies on aws linux ami (repo issues)

    Im installing ffmpeg to run on an amazon linux ami, and have added the rpmforge repo and the dag repo. Here are some guidelines I'm using for reference: TWoZaO and Razuna The rpmforge repo has ffmpeg, but if you try to install it then it will complain that is missing dependencies (for me libSDL-1.2.so.0()(64bit)). Regardless I will install ffmpeg from svn so I can be sure to enable the options I want (namely libx264). It seems strange to me though that SDL is not in rpmforge or dag, and in according to both of my references above, it should be there.   • First Request to IIS Express Fails with 503 Service Unavailable, Second Succeeds

    Each time I start my ASP.Net MVC 3 app from Visual Studio 2010, IIS Express launches and IE spins waiting. The request fails with HTTP 503 Service Unavailable. I hit Refresh in IE, and the request succeeds. All subsequent requests succeed until I stop debugging. The next time I go to start debugging, the first request fails again. Has anyone else experienced this? In IISExpress\applicationhost.config I have: <site name="ProjectName" id="6"> <application path="/" applicationPool="Clr4IntegratedAppPool"> <virtualDirectory path="/" physicalPath="c:\users\chris\dropbox\code\2010\SolutionName\ProjectName" /> </application> <bindings> <binding protocol="http" bindingInformation="*:80:laptop" /> </bindings> </site> I have this in my hosts file: 127.0.0.1 laptop And my Project is set to start with IIS Express, with Project Url set to: http://laptop It's very strange that only the first request fails, perhaps as though Visual Studio isn't waiting long enough for IIS Express to start? Is there some way to make it wait? Stopping debugging, making a change, and then starting again is one of the most common tasks I do so adding another step to get there is pretty annoying.

  • What is causing random hard freezes on my system? Kaspersky?

    The last few weeks I experienced a new strange behavior of my computer. Sometimes Windows 7 just freezes with no real reason at all. While listening to music for example the playback hangs and you can hear a very nasty sound. Neither mouse nor keyboard input is handled and everything is just stuck. Using Ubuntu this does not happen, so I think it is just a matter of driver issues or a Windows 7 bug. Furthermore I am really suspicious about Kaspersky (Internet Security 11) and so I let it perform a complete virus scan while no other app is running. At about 50% it happened again and I needed to restart the computer by holding the power button the bad way... A really weird thing is that playing Skyrim this happened once, however music playback did not stop. Only the framerate dropped to 0 and sometimes for a few seconds I am able to move. Therefore I am really confused as furthermore no bluescreen pops up. Memtest told me that everything seems to be alright... Can anyone explain me which data you need about my hardware and software (and which tools tools to use to gather the informatik) to be able to provide any help on my problem?

    I had a very strange incident this evening. I was watching TV on the computer and suddenly the sound stutter. Some seconds later, the screen went black. First I thought ok some error, don't worry. Since the computer didn't react on any input from the mouse or keyboard, I shutted it down by pressing the power button. I tried to reboot but the monitor rest black. All the fans were running, the MB didn't made a beep and the leds are all green as they have to be. The HDD is running too, also the monitor is on. But nothing happens, not even a single message on the screen, just black. Here are the things I already tried with no success: tried to boot with 1 of two rams (each tested alone) turned off all power (pull th plug) for 10 minutes tested the graphic card with another pc. there it worked. tested the RAM with another pc. there it worked. Any hints what to do next?

I seem to have it running up to the point where I'm trying to get repositories published correctly.     If i disable the include_path in /etc/php.ini, i can still see that there is an include path loaded from somewhere. I want to know where this file is. If i use phpinfo(); on my domain i get that there is a include path /usr/share/pear:/usr/share/php, even though in the php.ini i used: ;inlucde_path=".:" In the section for aditional php.ini files this is the list: /etc/php.d/curl.ini, /etc/php.d/dbase.ini, /etc/php.d/dom.ini, /etc/php.d/gd.ini, /etc/php.d/imap.ini, /etc/php.d/json.ini, /etc/php.d/mbstring.ini, /etc/php.d/mysql.ini, /etc/php.d/mysqli.ini, /etc/php.d/pdo.ini, /etc/php.d/pdo_mysql.ini, /etc/php.d/pdo_sqlite.ini, /etc/php.d/wddx.ini, /etc/php.d/xmlreader.ini, /etc/php.d/xmlwriter.ini, /etc/php.d/xsl.ini, /etc/php.d/zip.ini I have checked all these files but i can nowhere find a reference to pear. This said the /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf file is questioning to me too. If i check this file i can see the following values are defined. DocumentRoot "/var/www/html" <Directory /> Order Deny,Allow Deny from all Options None AllowOverride None </Directory> <Directory "/var/www/html"> Options None AllowOverride None Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> The strange thing is that i don't even use this directory, so where does plesk get his httpd.conf file from. I want to check if everything is ok, because my vhost.conf is not working. I don't know if i should change these values or not, and where i can find the values plesk uses. i hope someone can help me with this.
