• Gnome Shell opens as classic

  I'm running 12.04 on a Gateway LT4004u netbook, and I installed Gnome3 using the apt-get commands in the terminal. When I rebooted and ran "Gnome Shell" it opened up classic mode. I thought that my cursor might have slipped the first time, but on multiple retries logging in under gnome shell would open the gnome classic desktop. I even uninstalled Gnome Shell and reinstalled it with software center, but I still have the same problem. I was wondering if this might be an issue with my graphics card? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks! -Joe

  How can I implement a TableView like thing in C++? I want to emulating a tiny relation database like thing in C++. I have data tables, and I want to transform it somehow, so I need a TableView like class. I want filtering, sorting, freely add and remove items and transforming (ex. view as UPPERCASE and so on). The whole thing is inside a GUI application, so datatables and views are attached to a GUI (or HTML or something). So how can I identify an item in the view? How can I signal it when the table is changed? Is there some design pattern for this? • Question about mod_rewrite rule for redirecting failing pages

  I'm setting up a mod_rewrite rule that redirects failing pages to a custom Page Not Found page. This is with Wordpress. I'm using the guide here: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/rewrite/rewrite_guide_advanced.html#redirect404. My rule so far looks like this: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^(.+) http://example.com/?page_id=254 [R] This works. It seems to be a combination of the first and second suggestion that worked, since the -U flag did nothing. My question is, out of curiosity why the following happens: When I change REQUEST_FILENAME to REQUEST_URI (as the second example suggests), the page loads, but none of the style sheets load. All of my formatting is gone, and this happens on every page. Can anyone think of why this might happen?

  Today I installed nut on my Ubuntu server (14.03). $ uname -a Linux boson 3.13.0-24-generic #47-Ubuntu SMP Fri May 2 23:30:00 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux The UPS is connected to another server (called neutron), so I use nut-client to keep tabs on the UPS state. When I do sudo upsc [email protected] I get: Init SSL without certificate database battery.charge: 15 battery.charge.low: 10 battery.charge.warning: 50 battery.date: not set battery.mfr.date: 2012/11/27 : The first line of the output concerns me. I've not seen this on other installations of nut on Debian-based servers. What can I do to get rid of that line? EDIT: This "Init SSL without certificate database" is extra annoying because it is not part of the output of upsc and therefore I cannot grep it out.

  Good day everyone! This is my first post on this site ^_^ My question is: What are my options if I need a Web 2.0 gallery software that work in a very similar manner to this removed web site. Essentially: users can create account, then create and manage their own galleries. And all other users and guests can see these galleries, add tags, comments, etc. Basically a community driven gallery web site. When it comes to "normal" cms I know a lot of good options, but I never worked with any gallery management software... If you can suggest me some good solutions (free) it would be great! Also: If you by any chance know what software is used at this removed website it would be even better, because this solution suits me the best and I would have used this engine, but I cant find any information on what this engine is and if it is even public, or privately developed thing. • boot loading problem after wubi installation of Ubuntu 12.04 on Win7

  I was new in Ubuntu OS and I was just trying to use wubi windows installer to get a Ubuntu first for hands-on. I followed exactly the same as the instructions and after reboot win7, there is no Ubuntu selection in windows boot manager, with only Windows 7 showing there evilly -.- What I've found out was that the grub folder inside Ubuntu folder ( in my C:\ drive) was empty, either inside the ubuntu\disks\grub or ubuntu\install\grub. I thought this might be the reason why I could not load ubuntu during startup. Cause I've also looked into the EasyBCD settings, and ubuntu entry with Bootloader Path: \ubuntu\winboot\wubildr.mbr was lying there peacefully, looking perfectly fine. However it was not in boot loader actually. Is there a way to restore the grub folder with grub2, or is there any way to fix this problem so that I can find the "Ubuntu" selection at windows startup? Very appreciate your help :) Henry

While “Windows Internal Database” is Microsoft SQL Server 2005 in a limited edition (just like MSDE, WMSDE before it), the familiar access tools to the DB went missing, and connecting using standard ways doesn’t work either. It doesn’t work right out of the box. First, you need SQL Management Studio Express. Install and start it. • Broadcom STA wireless driver frezees

  Upon updating my 10.10 netbook to 11.04 on the first startup it froze. I checked the forums and found that disabling wlan in BIOS fixes the problem so I did that and it worked, system was ok and it didn't freeze but then I had no wireless. I know that Broadcom STA driver is to blame cause I removed it from "additional drivers" and enabled back in bios wlan and everything worked fine (exept no wireless cause no driver is activated). Enabling Broadcom STA in the additional drivers again and restarting wireless was up and it found my network and connected to it but in a matter of seconds netbook froze. Can you please help me...

Is there a way to only always show the close, minimise and maximise buttons on every application? The use case is as follows: I have a maximized application in the background, over it is a not-maximized application that has got focus. I want to close the maximized application. I move the pointer to upper left corner. The buttons do not show, since the background application does not have focus. I have to go back, click on it and then go back to the corner to close it. I do that several times a day :-( .

• Passing variable from SharePoint to external website

  My company has a SharePoint site that is administered by the IT department (versus the Web Developer... go figure!). We have partnered with a vendor that has built a site for our staff to order customized stationery, etc. I need to create a link on the SharePoint site that will take the user to the external site but identify them individually. The vendor is suggesting this format: https://www.VENDORSITE.com/UI/Profile.hcf?id=a02b8106-4115-47cd-bca7-ce4dd447ef89&username=<user name>&password=<password>&name1=<first name>&name2=<last name>&email=<email> Here's the problem: I don't know how to pass that info, or even a single variable, from the SharePoint site to the external site. I would appreciate ANY suggestions.

However, depending on the actual implementation of Handle this can be a whole range of different exceptions. The following implementation would check CanHandle again in Handle and throw a descriptive exception: public void Handle(object command) { if(!CanHandle(command)) throw new TesterDoerPatternUsageViolationException("Please call CanHandle first"); // actual implementation of handling the command. } This has the advantage that the exception is very descriptive. • SSH not working from outside network

  Ok.. First off my ISP does not block ports. I run web server just fine from another machine. I have port forwarded port 22. I can access within network but not out of.. I.E. my android. I get "The Operation Timed Out" on ConnectBot. Oh and I have allowed 22 on UFW. To answer what exactly happened was my ISP blocks port 22, even though a while back they told me they do not block any ports.. I changed it to port 27 and it worked without a problem.

• XNA When to call LoadContent

  I have an enum in my game that denotes the game state ie MainMenu, InGame, GameOver, Exit and I was wondering if it would be advisable to add a new one in for PrepGame - in which the game creates viewports for however many players there are, creates the battlefield etc. I feel like this is a good idea except for one thing: should I make a call back to LoadContent() in this state? I could just put a switch statement in the LoadContent for my currentGameState. If it equals PrepGame load things like the skybox, ship models, texures, HUD graphics etc. Or is it a good idea to create an Asset Manager class in the first call to LoadContent() and load everything then. I feel like both approaches have different benefits: faster, but more load times vs slower initial load time, but then all my objects are referencing the same variables so I only have to load each on once. • Are C or C++ The Only Viable Languages for a GC

  Background I have just finished writing a compiler for a functional language compiling to the JVM as a learning project. However, since I'm just doing this to learn, I thought it might be interesting to write a native backend and a RTS for it. As I've been planning out what this new backend will look like, the one point I'm stumbling on is the garbage collector. I've implemented the compiler in Haskell. But I have no desire to write the GC in Haskell since, while it may be possible, it'd suck. Question I've looked at several FOSS garbage collectors prior to posting and most of them were implemented in good old ANSI C. Is this still the most accepted choice for writing a GC nowadays? I've seen that this site tends to frown upon questions with multiple answers so I hope this will make it more specific: If some startup was writing a professional grade gc today, are the only viable choice for them C or C++? It's my first question here so please comment and let me know if this question is ill-suited for for programmers.

• How to get numpad out of "mouse emulation" mode?

  My numeric keypad has somehow got into a "mouse emulation" mode where the number keys just move the mouse pointer around (2 = down; 8 = up, 6 = right, etc). Anyone know how to make it work normally again? None of the other numpad keys work either (I first noticed the whole thing when Ctrl + ÷ (numpad division sign) no longer produced "line comment" in IntelliJ IDEA). Toggling num lock doesn't affect this (though the indicator LED works as usual). I'm using GNOME on Lucid Lynx (10.4).

• Putting Ubuntu Server on to a networked HDD

  Firstly, I know very little about servers and secondly the 1Tb HDD I have has network capabilities, but no software is installed on it, so when connected to the computer it is seen as a network connection, but not as a drive. Any advice on how to get started would be great. Up until now, I have been using it as a USB drive which worked well, but when this is sorted, I would like it to be connected directly to our BT HomeHub accessible through the WiFi for all the family to use as a film and back up repository. I would then be able to set up individual accounts for each family member to use and may be, if possible, make it accessible from outside locations. The First question then is: How can I install Ubuntu server on the 1Tb HDD attached directly to the computers network port but which doesn't show up in Nautilus? • Trying to re-install ubuntu 11.10on an HP Pavillion G6, screen goes black after the ubuntu logo shows.How do I get it to install normally?

  Installed Ubuntu 11.1 successfully without my wireless device being recognized. Used sudo apt-get update + upgrade commands to attempt to fix this. Computer crashes after upgrade and now it won't finish re-installing Ubuntu, after it shows the first purple screen with the Ubuntu logo, the screen goes black. Used the Derik's Boot Nuke CD and then attempted re-installment again, and the black screen problem remains consistent, seemingly no matter what I do. It sounds like it's installing but won't let me see anything or go anywhere. heelllppp
