  • shortcut to manually Reload file from Disk

    - by akf
    Now that I can turn off the annoying Reload popups, I would like a quick way to manually reload the file I am working on in NotePad++ via the keyboard. Looking at the File menu, Reload from Disk does not have a shortcut. Is there a hidden shortcut that you know of or someway to map one built-in?

  • Level 3 Communications Monitoring

    - by thursdasy
    Does level 3 Communications offer any type of map of current network status? It seems our connection here is getting high latency through their network. Also what is the experience asking them questions about if one of their appliances is malfunctioning or being overloaded because you are receiving bad latency in their network?

  • Restore only one partition of Windows Backup

    - by VitoShadow
    I have a MacBook Pro with an HD partitioned. This HD was divided in two partitions: the first was about 650 GB, with OS X installed, and the second one (created with BootCamp Assistant) was about 100 GB, with Windows 7 installed. I needed more space for Windows, so I decided to backup the Windows partition using the Windows backup tool, from Control Panel. I created an image of my partition, stored it in an external HD, and now I'm trying to use it. In order to give more space to Windows, I formatted the HD, and recreate a new partition table, with the first partition of about 250 GB (with OS X) and the second of the exactly size of the previous partition in which was installed Windows (about 100 GB); thre rest was empty space. In the second, I tried to restore the Windows backup. I plugged in the Windows Installation CD (with the HD with the backup connected to the computer), and select the option "Repair your computer". Then, I choose the image of the backup (automatically recognized), and I try to restore it. The problem is that now the System Recovery Tool wants to format all the HD, in order to install only Windows! In this way, I should lose everything, also the MacOS partition! Is there a way to install the backup only in the Windows partition?

  • Finding Font Issues in Acrobat

    - by Jayme
    Ok let me try this again, so sorry for not be clear. We create our PDFs through Quark, then send to print. I usually create outlines on my EPS files before I load in Quark but forgot this time. We bypassed the font error that Quark gave us by accident and found out our PDF was bad too late and it cost a lot of money to fix. We are trying to find a way to check our PDF for font problems before we send it to print, in case this problem happens again. We just want to be extra sure that we have tried everything. What I see in Quark is what the font is supposed to look like. When I view my PDF, the text is mixed up. Its readable but doesn't look like its supposed to and the spacing is all off within the text. My boss told me about the preflight in Quark and the Internal Structure for the fonts. She was asking me if this would help and what the lingo all meant. (which is where my first question started) The image on the left is my EPS that is correct, the image on the right is from the PDF. The white text in the top right and the website at the bottom left is what is messed up. I am running Mac 10.5.8, Quark 7.5 and Acrobat 8.3.1. Thanks, Jayme

  • How to manage enterprise network of Linux machines?

    - by killy9999
    I work at the university. In my institute we have six computer laboratories used for teaching. Each lab has almost 20 computers, which gives over 100 machines total. Computers have either Windows XP or Windows 7 Eneterprise operating system. We use Symantec Ghost to manage all the computers. Each computer has a Ghost client installed, which allows to control computers over network. Every six months we restore a master image on one of the computers in a lab, update that image and distribute it over the network to all computers in a laboratory. Thanks to Ghost client this is done automatically with just a few clicks. Recently I suggested that it would be good to have Linux installed in the laboratories. The administrators were concerned that we would not be able to manage that many computers if each would have to be updated manually. The question is: how to manage such a huge network of Linux machines in an automated way? To make the description of our network more complete I'll add that all students have their accounts (about few thousand users) on a central server. These are accessed via LDAP. To use a computer in laboratory each student has to log in using his own account.

  • Multiple if functions

    - by user2948699
    I have problem I'm hoping someone could help me with. I have five different text values in 5 cells. I am trying to combine these values into one cell with a comma in between each. However the trick is that if there is no value in (H6) then it must place the word "and" between the cell (F6) and (G6). If there is a value in (H6) then place the word "and" between (G6) and (H6). In the same statement I must also include If there is not value in (G6) then it must place the word "and" between the cell E6 and F6. Please see image attached. I am trying to get the highlighted statements into one cell. So multiple IF statements into one cell. Anyone? =IF(G8=0,(D8)&", "&(E8)&" and "&(F8),(D8)&", "&(E8)&", "&(F8)&" and "&(G8)=IF(H8=0,(D8)&", "&(E8)&", "&(F8)&" and "&(G8),(D8)&", "&(E8)&", "&(F8)&", "&(G8)&" and "&(H8))) I cant figure out the code. Many thanks. Alex Edit: The original image can be found here if size of the inlined is too small.

  • VM automatic provisioning advice

    - by jdgregson
    In my lab we have 24 workstations, each with five technician-maintained virtual machines set up in VMware Workstation. These provide a lot of management overhead, as we have to update them as well as the host operating systems every three months (the start of the next quarter), which adds up to 144 systems to update instead of just 24. Whenever we need to reimage the hosts, the VMs add another 130GB to each image, which is over 3TB of extra data to send over the network, and a lot more time to apply each image, and then we still have to boot all 120 VMs and assign them a unique IP Address and host names. We would like to get the VMs off the hosts and onto a server, but after looking around for a few days, I still don't know where to begin looking for a solution. There may be a better way to do this, but in my mind, the ideal solution would be to replace the VMs on the host machines with five Thin Client operating systems, each configured to connect to a server and be sent or connected to a unique virtual machine. We can't have 120 VMs running on the server all the time, so the server would have to create a copy of the VM from a template whenever a student tries to boot one, and destroy the VM after the student is finished with it. If there is another client application that has to be installed on the hosts that would be fine, the only reason I'd like to keep them in VMware Workstation is because students already know to look there for the VMs when they need to use them. What, if any, virtualization software will allow this? Is there some other solution I'm not seeing?

  • Perfmon % Processor Time vs. task manager's CPU usage

    - by nat
    I'm new to using Perfmon and performance monitoring in general (so go easy on me please ;) I know that Perfmon doesn't have anything exactly like Task Manager's CPU usage display, but I'm trying to figure out how to monitor user's CPU usage via Perfmon in a similar way, and trying to understand the measurements (or how to convert the numbers to get a similar understanding) For example, if in Task Manager, a particular user is consistently using more than 5% CPU, I would want to contact the user about it. I learn best by example, so here is exactly what I'm trying to do, with a specific example: This is for a 32-bit Dual Quad Core Windows 2003 web server (8 CPUs), there are many web sites on the server, each running within their own application pool/worker process ID. Through other research here I learned of a registry change that I made so that the PID shows up with the w3wp process so I can easily identify the site later by cross-referencing it. I set up a counter with the following settings: Process -> % Processor Time -> all instances Here is an example. Say I'm interested in "black line" user in this graph below, as his process is spiking quite high compared to all the other users: (I wasn't allowed to post the image as I'm a new user on this site.. I've uploaded the image to:) http://i35.tinypic.com/106yn8k.jpg So... using this as an example, I see that they have an AVERAGE % PROCESSOR TIME of 23.264 , and have spiked as high as 103.124 So what exactly does this 23.264 number mean to me? Is it similar to an average of Task Manager's CPU reading for this user? Or, since this server has 8 CPUs, should I divide this number by 8? (23.264/8 = 2.9% AVERAGE CPU LOAD?) Thanks in advance.

  • JAX-WS MarshalException with custom JAX-B bindings: Unable to marshal type "java.lang.String" as an

    - by MoneyMark
    I seem to be having an issue with Jax-WS and Jax-b playing nicely together. I need to consume a web-service, which has a predefined WSDL. When executing the generated client I am receiving the following error: javax.xml.ws.WebServiceException: javax.xml.bind.MarshalException - with linked exception: [com.sun.istack.SAXException2: unable to marshal type "java.lang.String" as an element because it is missing an @XmlRootElement annotation] This started occurring when I used an external custom binding file to map needlessly complex types to java.lang.string. Here is an excerpt from my binding file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <bindings xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/jaxb" version="2.0" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:wsdl="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/" xmlns:xjc="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/jaxb/xjc"> <bindings schemaLocation="http://localhost:7777/GESOR/services/RegistryUpdatePort?wsdl#types?schema1" node="/xs:schema"> <bindings node="//xs:element[@name='StwrdCompany']//xs:complexType//xs:sequence//xs:element[@name='company_name']"> <property> <baseType name="java.lang.String" /> </property> </bindings> <bindings node="//xs:element[@name='StwrdCompany']//xs:complexType//xs:sequence//xs:element[@name='address1']"> <property> <baseType name="java.lang.String" /> </property> </bindings> <bindings node="//xs:element[@name='StwrdCompany']//xs:complexType//xs:sequence//xs:element[@name='address2']"> <property> <baseType name="java.lang.String" /> </property> </bindings> ...more fields </bindings> </bindings> When executing wsimport against the provided WSDL, StwrdCompany is generated with the following variables declared: @XmlRootElement(name = "StwrdCompany") public class StwrdCompany { @XmlElementRef(name = "company_name", type = JAXBElement.class) protected String companyName; @XmlElementRef(name = "address1", type = JAXBElement.class) protected String address1; @XmlElementRef(name = "address2", type = JAXBElement.class) ... more fields ... getters/setters @XmlAccessorType(XmlAccessType.FIELD) @XmlType(name = "", propOrder = { "value" }) public static class CompanyName { @XmlValue protected String value; @XmlAttribute protected Boolean updateToNULL; /** * Gets the value of the value property. * * @return * possible object is * {@link String } * */ public String getValue() { return value; } /** * Sets the value of the value property. * * @param value * allowed object is * {@link String } * */ public void setValue(String value) { this.value = value; } /** * Gets the value of the updateToNULL property. * * @return * possible object is * {@link Boolean } * */ public boolean isUpdateToNULL() { if (updateToNULL == null) { return false; } else { return updateToNULL; } } /** * Sets the value of the updateToNULL property. * * @param value * allowed object is * {@link Boolean } * */ public void setUpdateToNULL(Boolean value) { this.updateToNULL = value; } ... more inner classes } } Finally, here is the associated snippet from the WSDL that seems to be causing such grief. <xs:element name="StwrdCompany"> <xs:complexType> <xs:sequence> <xs:element maxOccurs="1" minOccurs="0" name="company_name" nillable="true"> <xs:complexType> <xs:simpleContent> <xs:extension base="xs:string"> <xs:attribute default="false" name="updateToNULL" type="xs:boolean"/> </xs:extension> </xs:simpleContent> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> <xs:element maxOccurs="1" minOccurs="0" name="address1" nillable="true"> <xs:complexType> <xs:simpleContent> <xs:extension base="xs:string"> <xs:attribute default="false" name="updateToNULL" type="xs:boolean"/> </xs:extension> </xs:simpleContent> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> ... more fields in the same format <xs:element maxOccurs="1" minOccurs="0" name="p_source_timestamp" nillable="false" type="xs:string"/> </xs:sequence> <xs:attribute name="company_xid" type="xs:string"/> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> The reason for the custom binding is so I can map user input from a pojo into the StwrdCompany object more easily, whether it be direct instantiation or through the use of Dozer for bean mapping. I was unable to successfully map between the objects without the custom binding. Finally, one other thing I tried was setting a globalBinding definition: <globalBindings generateValueClass="false"></globalBindings> This caused the server to through an argument mismatch exception since the Soap Message was using xs:string xml types instead of passing the defined complex types, so I abandoned that idea. Any insight into what is causing the MarshalException or how to go about solving the issue of calling the webservice and mapping these objects more easily, is greatly appreciated. I've been searching for days and I sadly think I am stumped.

  • tableView:didSelectRowAtIndexPath: calls TTNavigator openURLAction:applyAnimated: — UITabBar and na

    - by vikingosegundo
    I have an existing iphone project with a UITabBar. Now I need styled text and in-text links to other ViewControllers in my app. I am trying to integrate TTStyledTextLabel. I have a FirstViewController:UITabelViewController with this tableView:didSelectRowAtIndexPath: - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { NSString *url; if ([self.filteredQuestions count]>0) { url = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@%d", @"tt://question/", [[self.filteredQuestions objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] id]]; [[TTNavigator navigator] openURLAction:[[TTURLAction actionWithURLPath: url] applyAnimated:YES]]; } else { Question * q = [self.questions objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] ; url = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@%d", @"tt://question/", [q.id intValue]]; } TTDPRINT(@"%@", url); TTNavigator *navigator = [TTNavigator navigator]; [navigator openURLAction:[[TTURLAction actionWithURLPath: url] applyAnimated:YES]]; } My mapping looks like this: TTNavigator* navigator = [TTNavigator navigator]; navigator.window = window; navigator.supportsShakeToReload = YES; TTURLMap* map = navigator.URLMap; [map from:@"*" toViewController:[TTWebController class]]; [map from:@"tt://question/(initWithQID:)" toViewController:[QuestionDetailViewController class]]; and my QuestionDetailViewController: @interface QuestionDetailViewController : UIViewController <UIScrollViewDelegate , QuestionDetailViewProtocol> { Question *question; } @property(nonatomic,retain) Question *question; -(id) initWithQID:(NSString *)qid; -(void) goBack:(id)sender; @end When I hit a cell, q QuestionDetailViewController will be called — but the navigationBar wont @implementation QuestionDetailViewController @synthesize question; -(id) initWithQID:(NSString *)qid { if (self = [super initWithNibName:@"QuestionDetailViewController" bundle:nil]) { //; TTDPRINT(@"%@", qid); NSManagedObjectContext *managedObjectContext = [(domainAppDelegate*)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate] managedObjectContext]; NSPredicate *predicate =[NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"id == %@", qid]; NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Question" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; NSFetchRequest *request = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; [request setEntity:entity]; [request setPredicate:predicate]; NSError *error = nil; NSArray *array = [managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:request error:&error]; if (error==nil && [array count]>0 ) { self.question = [array objectAtIndex:0]; } else { TTDPRINT(@"error: %@", array); } } return self; } - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; [TTStyleSheet setGlobalStyleSheet:[[[TextTestStyleSheet alloc] init] autorelease]]; [self.navigationController.navigationBar setTranslucent:YES]; NSArray *includedLinks = [self.question.answer.text vs_extractExternalLinks]; NSMutableDictionary *linksToTT = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; for (NSArray *a in includedLinks) { NSString *s = [a objectAtIndex:3]; if ([s hasPrefix:@"/answer/"] || [s hasPrefix:@"http://domain.com/answer/"] || [s hasPrefix:@"http://www.domain.com/answer/"]) { NSString *ttAdress = @"tt://question/"; NSArray *adressComps = [s pathComponents]; for (NSString *s in adressComps) { if ([s isEqualToString:@"qid"]) { ttAdress = [ttAdress stringByAppendingString:[adressComps objectAtIndex:[adressComps indexOfObject:s]+1]]; } } [linksToTT setObject:ttAdress forKey:s]; } } for (NSString *k in [linksToTT allKeys]) { self.question.answer.text = [self.question.answer.text stringByReplacingOccurrencesOfString:k withString: [linksToTT objectForKey:k]]; } TTStyledTextLabel *answerText = [[[TTStyledTextLabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 700)] autorelease]; if (![[self.question.answer.text stringByTrimmingCharactersInSet:[NSCharacterSet whitespaceCharacterSet]] hasPrefix:@"<div"]) { self.question.answer.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%<div>%@</div>", self.question.answer.text]; } NSString * s = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"<div class=\"header\">%@</div>\n%@",self.question.title ,self.question.answer.text]; answerText.text = [TTStyledText textFromXHTML:s lineBreaks:YES URLs:YES]; answerText.contentInset = UIEdgeInsetsMake(20, 15, 20, 15); [answerText sizeToFit]; [self.navigationController setNavigationBarHidden:NO animated:YES]; [self.view addSubview:answerText]; [(UIScrollView *)self.view setContentSize:answerText.frame.size]; self.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor whiteColor]; [linksToTT release]; } ....... @end This works quite nice, as soon as a cell is touched, a QuestionDetailViewController is called and pushed — but the tabBar will disappear, and the navigationItem — I set it like this: self.navigationItem.title =@"back to first screen"; — won't be shown. And it just appears without animation. But if I press a link inside the TTStyledTextLabel the animation works, the navigationItem will be shown. How can I make the animation, the navigationItem and the tabBar be shown?

  • Couldn't get connection factory client - fighting with Google Maps

    - by iie
    another day another problem, I finally managed to set up correctly google maps on my android application, or at least I thought I've done it, the whole progam starts, it even call the class which should "print" a map, but the only thing I can see is a grid with google label on it [ in the corner ]. I've checked the dalvik monitor and the error E/MapActivity(394): Couldn't get connection factory client occurs. I've find out on stackoverflow website that I should sent a gps signal or sth like this from dalvik monitor, and I've done it. Nothing happend, also I got the api key one more time, but nothing changed. here is map.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <!-- This file is /res/layout/mapview.xml --> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> <Button android:id="@+id/zoomin" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="+" android:onClick="myClickHandler" android:padding="12px" /> <Button android:id="@+id/zoomout" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="-" android:onClick="myClickHandler" android:padding="12px" /> <Button android:id="@+id/sat" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Satellite" android:onClick="myClickHandler" android:padding="8px" /> <Button android:id="@+id/street" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Street" android:onClick="myClickHandler" android:padding="8px" /> <Button android:id="@+id/traffic" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Traffic" android:onClick="myClickHandler" android:padding="8px" /> <Button android:id="@+id/normal" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Normal" android:onClick="myClickHandler" android:padding="8px" /> </LinearLayout> <com.google.android.maps.MapView android:id="@+id/mapview" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:clickable="true" android:apiKey="0zPcz1VYRSpLusufJ2JoL0ffl2uxDMovgpW319w" /> </LinearLayout> here is a MapMapa.java public class MapMapa extends MapActivity { private MapView mapView; @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.map); mapView = (MapView)findViewById(R.id.mapview); } public void myClickHandler(View target) { switch(target.getId()) { case R.id.zoomin: mapView.getController().zoomIn(); break; case R.id.zoomout: mapView.getController().zoomOut(); break; case R.id.sat: mapView.setSatellite(true); break; case R.id.street: mapView.setStreetView(true); break; case R.id.traffic: mapView.setTraffic(true); break; case R.id.normal: mapView.setSatellite(false); mapView.setStreetView(false); mapView.setTraffic(false); break; } } @Override protected boolean isLocationDisplayed() { return false; } @Override protected boolean isRouteDisplayed() { return false; } manifest.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" package="menu.dot" android:versionCode="1" ndroid:versionName="1.0"> <application android:label="@string/app_name" android:icon="@drawable/icon"> <uses-library android:name="com.google.android.maps" /> <activity android:name="MainActivity" android:label="@string/app_name"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" /> </intent-filter> </activity> <activity android:name=".About"> android:label="@string/about_title" android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Dialog" > </activity> <activity android:name=".Exit"> andorid:label="@string/exit_title"> </activity> <activity android:name=".Options"> </activity> <activity android:name=".Start"> </activity> <activity android:name=".Create"> </activity> <activity android:name=".Where"> </activity> <activity android:name=".Proceed"> </activity> <activity android:name=".Finish"> </activity> <activity android:name=".Login"> </activity> <activity android:name=".OK"> </activity> <activity android:name=".UserPanel"> </activity> <activity android:name=".Managero"> </activity> <activity android:name=".Edition"> </activity> <activity android:name=".Done"> </activity> <activity android:name=".Delete"> </activity> <activity android:name=".MapMapa"> </activity> </application> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION"/> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION"/> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET"/> <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="3" /> </manifest>

    There is a lot of discussions of Python vs Ruby, and I all find them completely unhelpful, because they all turn around why feature X sucks in language Y, or that claim language Y doesn't have X, although in fact it does. I also know exactly why I prefer Python, but that's also subjective, and wouldn't help anybody choosing, as they might not have the same tastes in development as I do. It would therefore be interesting to list the differences, objectively. So no "Python's lambdas sucks". Instead explain what Ruby's lambdas can do that Python's can't. No subjectivity. Example code is good! Don't have several differences in one answer, please. And vote up the ones you know are correct, and down those you know are incorrect (or are subjective). Also, differences in syntax is not interesting. We know Python does with indentation what Ruby does with brackets and ends, and that @ is called self in Python. UPDATE: This is now a community wiki, so we can add the big differences here. Ruby has a class reference in the class body In Ruby you have a reference to the class (self) already in the class body. In Python you don't have a reference to the class until after the class construction is finished. An example: class Kaka puts self end self in this case is the class, and this code would print out "Kaka". There is no way to print out the class name or in other ways access the class from the class definition body in Python. All classes are mutable in Ruby This lets you develop extensions to core classes. Here's an example of a rails extension: class String def starts_with?(other) head = self[0, other.length] head == other end end Ruby has Perl-like scripting features Ruby has first class regexps, $-variables, the awk/perl line by line input loop and other features that make it more suited to writing small shell scripts that munge text files or act as glue code for other programs. Ruby has first class continuations Thanks to the callcc statement. In Python you can create continuations by various techniques, but there is no support built in to the language. Ruby has blocks With the "do" statement you can create a multi-line anonymous function in Ruby, which will be passed in as an argument into the method in front of do, and called from there. In Python you would instead do this either by passing a method or with generators. Ruby: amethod { |here| many=lines+of+code goes(here) } Python: def function(here): many=lines+of+code goes(here) amethod(function) Interestingly, the convenience statement in Ruby for calling a block is called "yield", which in Python will create a generator. Ruby: def themethod yield 5 end themethod do |foo| puts foo end Python: def themethod(): yield 5 for foo in themethod: print foo Although the principles are different, the result is strikingly similar. Python has built-in generators (which are used like Ruby blocks, as noted above) Python has support for generators in the language. In Ruby you could use the generator module that uses continuations to create a generator from a block. Or, you could just use a block/proc/lambda! Moreover, in Ruby 1.9 Fibers are, and can be used as, generators. docs.python.org has this generator example: def reverse(data): for index in range(len(data)-1, -1, -1): yield data[index] Contrast this with the above block examples. Python has flexible name space handling In Ruby, when you import a file with require, all the things defined in that file will end up in your global namespace. This causes namespace pollution. The solution to that is Rubys modules. But if you create a namespace with a module, then you have to use that namespace to access the contained classes. In Python, the file is a module, and you can import its contained names with from themodule import *, thereby polluting the namespace if you want. But you can also import just selected names with from themodule import aname, another or you can simply import themodule and then access the names with themodule.aname. If you want more levels in your namespace you can have packages, which are directories with modules and an __init__.py file. Python has docstrings Docstrings are strings that are attached to modules, functions and methods and can be introspected at runtime. This helps for creating such things as the help command and automatic documentation. def frobnicate(bar): """frobnicate takes a bar and frobnicates it >>> bar = Bar() >>> bar.is_frobnicated() False >>> frobnicate(bar) >>> bar.is_frobnicated() True """ Python has more libraries Python has a vast amount of available modules and bindings for libraries. Python has multiple inheritance Ruby does not ("on purpose" -- see Ruby's website, see here how it's done in Ruby). It does reuse the module concept as a sort of abstract classes. Python has list/dict comprehensions Python: res = [x*x for x in range(1, 10)] Ruby: res = (0..9).map { |x| x * x } Python: >>> (x*x for x in range(10)) <generator object <genexpr> at 0xb7c1ccd4> >>> list(_) [0, 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81] Ruby: p = proc { |x| x * x } (0..9).map(&p) Python: >>> {x:str(y*y) for x,y in {1:2, 3:4}.items()} {1: '4', 3: '16'} Ruby: >> Hash[{1=>2, 3=>4}.map{|x,y| [x,(y*y).to_s]}] => {1=>"4", 3=>"16"} Python has decorators Things similar to decorators can be created in Ruby, and it can also be argued that they aren't as necessary as in Python.

  • Dynamic scoping in Clojure?

    - by j-g-faustus
    Hi, I'm looking for an idiomatic way to get dynamically scoped variables in Clojure (or a similar effect) for use in templates and such. Here is an example problem using a lookup table to translate tag attributes from some non-HTML format to HTML, where the table needs access to a set of variables supplied from elsewhere: (def *attr-table* ; Key: [attr-key tag-name] or [boolean-function] ; Value: [attr-key attr-value] (empty array to ignore) ; Context: Variables "tagname", "akey", "aval" '( ; translate :LINK attribute in <a> to :href [:LINK "a"] [:href aval] ; translate :LINK attribute in <img> to :src [:LINK "img"] [:src aval] ; throw exception if :LINK attribute in any other tag [:LINK] (throw (RuntimeException. (str "No match for " tagname))) ; ... more rules ; ignore string keys, used for internal bookkeeping [(string? akey)] [] )) ; ignore I want to be able to evaluate the rules (left hand side) as well as the result (right hand side), and need some way to put the variables in scope at the location where the table is evaluated. I also want to keep the lookup and evaluation logic independent of any particular table or set of variables. I suppose there are similar issues involved in templates (for example for dynamic HTML), where you don't want to rewrite the template processing logic every time someone puts a new variable in a template. Here is one approach using global variables and bindings. I have included some logic for the table lookup: ;; Generic code, works with any table on the same format. (defn rule-match? [rule-val test-val] "true if a single rule matches a single argument value" (cond (not (coll? rule-val)) (= rule-val test-val) ; plain value (list? rule-val) (eval rule-val) ; function call :else false )) (defn rule-lookup [test-val rule-table] "looks up rule match for test-val. Returns result or nil." (loop [rules (partition 2 rule-table)] (when-not (empty? rules) (let [[select result] (first rules)] (if (every? #(boolean %) (map rule-match? select test-val)) (eval result) ; evaluate and return result (recur (rest rules)) ))))) ;; Code specific to *attr-table* (def tagname) ; need these globals for the binding in html-attr (def akey) (def aval) (defn html-attr [tagname h-attr] "converts to html attributes" (apply hash-map (flatten (map (fn [[k v :as kv]] (binding [tagname tagname akey k aval v] (or (rule-lookup [k tagname] *attr-table*) kv))) h-attr )))) (defn test-attr [] "test conversion" (prn "a" (html-attr "a" {:LINK "www.google.com" "internal" 42 :title "A link" })) (prn "img" (html-attr "img" {:LINK "logo.png" }))) user=> (test-attr) "a" {:href "www.google.com", :title "A link"} "img" {:src "logo.png"} This is nice in that the lookup logic is independent of the table, so it can be reused with other tables and different variables. (Plus of course that the general table approach is about a quarter of the size of the code I had when I did the translations "by hand" in a giant cond.) It is not so nice in that I need to declare every variable as a global for the binding to work. Here is another approach using a "semi-macro", a function with a syntax-quoted return value, that doesn't need globals: (defn attr-table [tagname akey aval] `( [:LINK "a"] [:href ~aval] [:LINK "img"] [:src ~aval] [:LINK] (throw (RuntimeException. (str "No match for " tagname))) ; ... more rules [(string? ~akey)] [] ))) Only a couple of changes are needed to the rest of the code: In rule-match?, when syntax-quoted the function call is no longer a list: - (list? rule-val) (eval rule-val) + (seq? rule-val) (eval rule-val) In html-attr: - (binding [tagname tagname akey k aval v] - (or (rule-lookup [k tagname] *attr-table*) kv))) + (or (rule-lookup [k tagname] (attr-table tagname k v)) kv))) And we get the same result without globals. (And without dynamic scoping.) Are there other alternatives to pass along sets of variable bindings declared elsewhere, without the globals required by Clojure's binding? Is there an idiomatic way of doing it, like Ruby's binding or Javascript's function.apply(context)?

  • Passing a comparator syntax help in Java

    - by Crystal
    I've tried this a couple ways, the first is have a class that implements comparator at the bottom of the following code. When I try to pass the comparat in sortListByLastName, I get a constructor not found error and I am not sure why import java.util.*; public class OrganizeThis implements WhoDoneIt { /** Add a person to the organizer @param p A person object */ public void add(Person p) { staff.put(p.getEmail(), p); //System.out.println("Person " + p + "added"); } /** * Remove a Person from the organizer. * * @param email The email of the person to be removed. */ public void remove(String email) { staff.remove(email); } /** * Remove all contacts from the organizer. * */ public void empty() { staff.clear(); } /** * Find the person stored in the organizer with the email address. * Note, each person will have a unique email address. * * @param email The person email address you are looking for. * */ public Person findByEmail(String email) { Person aPerson = staff.get(email); return aPerson; } /** * Find all persons stored in the organizer with the same last name. * Note, there can be multiple persons with the same last name. * * @param lastName The last name of the persons your are looking for. * */ public Person[] find(String lastName) { ArrayList<Person> names = new ArrayList<Person>(); for (Person s : staff.values()) { if (s.getLastName() == lastName) { names.add(s); } } // Convert ArrayList back to Array Person nameArray[] = new Person[names.size()]; names.toArray(nameArray); return nameArray; } /** * Return all the contact from the orgnizer in * an array sorted by last name. * * @return An array of Person objects. * */ public Person[] getSortedListByLastName() { PersonLastNameComparator comp = new PersonLastNameComparator(); Map<String, Person> sorted = new TreeMap<String, Person>(comp); ArrayList<Person> sortedArrayList = new ArrayList<Person>(); for (Person s: sorted.values()) { sortedArrayList.add(s); } Person sortedArray[] = new Person[sortedArrayList.size()]; sortedArrayList.toArray(sortedArray); return sortedArray; } private Map<String, Person> staff = new HashMap<String, Person>(); public static void main(String[] args) { OrganizeThis testObj = new OrganizeThis(); Person person1 = new Person("J", "W", "111-222-3333", "[email protected]"); Person person2 = new Person("K", "W", "345-678-9999", "[email protected]"); Person person3 = new Person("Phoebe", "Wang", "322-111-3333", "[email protected]"); Person person4 = new Person("Nermal", "Johnson", "322-342-5555", "[email protected]"); Person person5 = new Person("Apple", "Banana", "123-456-1111", "[email protected]"); testObj.add(person1); testObj.add(person2); testObj.add(person3); testObj.add(person4); testObj.add(person5); System.out.println(testObj.findByEmail("[email protected]")); System.out.println("------------" + '\n'); Person a[] = testObj.find("W"); for (Person p : a) System.out.println(p); System.out.println("------------" + '\n'); a = testObj.find("W"); for (Person p : a) System.out.println(p); System.out.println("SORTED" + '\n'); a = testObj.getSortedListByLastName(); for (Person b : a) { System.out.println(b); } System.out.println(testObj.getAuthor()); } } class PersonLastNameComparator implements Comparator<Person> { public int compare(Person a, Person b) { return a.getLastName().compareTo(b.getLastName()); } } And then when I tried doing it by creating an anonymous inner class, I also get a constructor TreeMap cannot find symbol error. Any thoughts? inner class method: public Person[] getSortedListByLastName() { //PersonLastNameComparator comp = new PersonLastNameComparator(); Map<String, Person> sorted = new TreeMap<String, Person>(new Comparator<Person>() { public int compare(Person a, Person b) { return a.getLastName().compareTo(b.getLastName()); } }); ArrayList<Person> sortedArrayList = new ArrayList<Person>(); for (Person s: sorted.values()) { sortedArrayList.add(s); } Person sortedArray[] = new Person[sortedArrayList.size()]; sortedArrayList.toArray(sortedArray); return sortedArray; }

  • Super Noob C++ variable help

    - by julian
    Ok, I must preface this by stating that I know so so little about c++ and am hoping someone can just help me out... I have the below code: string GoogleMapControl::CreatePolyLine(RideItem *ride) { std::vector<RideFilePoint> intervalPoints; ostringstream oss; int cp; int intervalTime = 30; // 30 seconds int zone =ride->zoneRange(); if(zone >= 0) { cp = 300; // default cp to 300 watts } else { cp = ride->zones->getCP(zone); } foreach(RideFilePoint* rfp, ride->ride()->dataPoints()) { intervalPoints.push_back(*rfp); if((intervalPoints.back().secs - intervalPoints.front().secs) > intervalTime) { // find the avg power and color code it and create a polyline... AvgPower avgPower = for_each(intervalPoints.begin(), intervalPoints.end(), AvgPower()); // find the color QColor color = GetColor(cp,avgPower); // create the polyline CreateSubPolyLine(intervalPoints,oss,color); intervalPoints.clear(); intervalPoints.push_back(*rfp); } } return oss.str(); } void GoogleMapControl::CreateSubPolyLine(const std::vector<RideFilePoint> &points, std::ostringstream &oss, QColor color) { oss.precision(6); QString colorstr = color.name(); oss.setf(ios::fixed,ios::floatfield); oss << "var polyline = new GPolyline(["; BOOST_FOREACH(RideFilePoint rfp, points) { if (ceil(rfp.lat) != 180 && ceil(rfp.lon) != 180) { oss << "new GLatLng(" << rfp.lat << "," << rfp.lon << ")," << endl; } } oss << "],\"" << colorstr.toStdString() << "\",4);"; oss << "GEvent.addListener(polyline, 'mouseover', function() {" << endl << "var tooltip_text = 'Avg watts:" << avgPower <<" <br> Avg Speed: <br> Color: "<< colorstr.toStdString() <<"';" << endl << "var ss={'weight':8};" << endl << "this.setStrokeStyle(ss);" << endl << "this.overlay = new MapTooltip(this,tooltip_text);" << endl << "map.addOverlay(this.overlay);" << endl << "});" << endl << "GEvent.addListener(polyline, 'mouseout', function() {" << endl << "map.removeOverlay(this.overlay);" << endl << "var ss={'weight':5};" << endl << "this.setStrokeStyle(ss);" << endl << "});" << endl; oss << "map.addOverlay (polyline);" << endl; } And I'm trying to get the avgPower from this part: AvgPower avgPower = for_each(intervalPoints.begin(), intervalPoints.end(), AvgPower()); the first part to cary over to the second part: << "var tooltip_text = 'Avg watts:" << avgPower <<" <br> Avg Speed: <br> Color: "<< colorstr.toStdString() <<"';" << endl But of course I haven't the slightest clue how to do it... anyone feeling generous today?   • What do I need to change to get this 'acts_as_rateable' Rails plugin working with this code from the

    - by tepidsam
    Hello! I'm working my way through the 'Foundation Rails 2' book. In Chapter 9, we are building a little "plugins" app. In the book, he installs the acts_as_rateable plugin found at http://juixe.com/svn/acts_as_rateable. This plugin doesn't appear to exist in 2010 (the page for this "old" plugin seems to be working again...it was down when I tried it earlier), so I found another acts_as_rateable plugin at http://github.com/azabaj/acts_as_rateable. These plugins are different and I'm trying to get the "new" plugin working with the code/project/app from the Foudations 2 book. I was able to use the migration generator included with the "new" plugin and it worked. Now,though, I'm a bit confused. In the book, he has us create a new controller to work with the plugin (the old plugin). Here's the code for that: class RatingsController < ApplicationController def create @plugin = Plugin.find(params[:plugin_id]) rating = Rating.new(:rating => params[:rating]) @plugin.ratings << average_rating redirect_to @plugin end end Then he had us change the routing: map.resources :plugins, :has_many => :ratings map.resources :categories map.root :controller => 'plugins' Next, we modified the following to the 'show' template so that it looks like this: <div id="rate_plugin"> <h2>Rate this plugin</h2> <ul class="star-rating"> <li> <%= link_to "1", @plugin.rate_it(1), :method => :post, :title => "1 star out of 5", :class => "one-star" %> </li> <li> <%= link_to "2", plugin_ratings_path(@plugin, :rating => 2), :method => :post, :title => "2 stars out of 5", :class => "two-stars" %> </li> <li> <%= link_to "3", plugin_ratings_path(@plugin, :rating => 3), :method => :post, :title => "3 stars out of 5", :class => "three-stars" %> </li> <li> <%= link_to "4", plugin_ratings_path(@plugin, :rating => 4), :method => :post, :title => "4 stars out of 5", :class => "four-stars" %> </li> <li> <%= link_to "5", plugin_ratings_path(@plugin, :rating => 5), :method => :post, :title => "5 stars out of 5", :class => "five-stars" %> </li> </ul> </div> The problem is that we're using code for a different plugin. When I try to actually "rate" one of the plugins, I get an "unknown attribute" error. That makes sense. I'm using attribute names for the "old" plugin, but I should be using attributes names for the "new" plugin. The problem is...I've tried using a variety of different attribute names and I keep getting the same error. From the README for the "new" plugin, I think I should be using some of these but I haven't been able to get them working: Install the plugin into your vendor/plugins directory, insert 'acts_as_rateable' into your model, then restart your application. class Post < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_rateable end Now your model is extended by the plugin, you can rate it ( 1-# )or calculate the average rating. @plugin.rate_it( 4, current_user.id ) @plugin.average_rating #=> 4.0 @plugin.average_rating_round #=> 4 @plugin.average_rating_percent #=> 80 @plugin.rated_by?( current_user ) #=> rating || false Plugin.find_average_of( 4 ) #=> array of posts See acts_as_rateable.rb for further details! I'm guessing that I might have to make some "bigger" changes to get this plugin working. I'm asking this question to learn and only learn. The book gives code to get things working with the old plugin, but if one were actually building this app today it would be necessary to use this "new" plugin, so I would like to see how it could be used. Cheers! Any ideas on what I could change to get the "new" plugin working?

    Hello! Sorry for this question but I can't find my error! In my Project I have my model called "team". A User can create a "team" or a "contest". I also created a new view called create_contest.html.erb : <h1>New team content</h1> <% form_for @team, :url => { :action => 'create_content' } do |f| %> <%= f.error_messages %> <p> <%= f.label :name %><br /> <%= f.text_field :name %> </p> <p> <%= f.label :description %><br /> <%= f.text_area :description %> </p> <p> <%= f.label :url %><br /> <%= f.text_fiels :url %> </p> <p> <%= f.label :contact_name %><br /> <%= f.text_fiels :contact_name %> </p> <p> <%= f.submit 'Create' %> </p> <% end %> In my teams_controller, I created following functions: def new_contest end def create_contest if @can_create @team = Team.new(params[:team]) @team.user_id = current_user.id respond_to do |format| if @team.save format.html { redirect_to(@team, :notice => 'Contest was successfully created.') } format.xml { render :xml => @team, :status => :created, :location => @team } else format.html { render :action => "new" } format.xml { render :xml => @team.errors, :status => :unprocessable_entity } end end else redirect_back_or_default('/') end end Now, I want on my teams/new.html.erb a link to "new_contest.html.erb". So I did: <%= link_to 'click here for new contest!', new_contest_team_path %> When I go to the /teams/new.html.erb page, I get following error: undefined local variable or method `new_contest_team_path' for #<ActionView::Base:0x16fc4f7> So I changed in my routes.rb, map.resources :teams to map.resources :teams, :member=>{:new_contest => :get} Now I get following error: new_contest_team_url failed to generate from {:controller=>"teams", :action=>"new_contest"} - you may have ambiguous routes, or you may need to supply additional parameters for this route. content_url has the following required parameters: ["teams", :id, "new_contest"] - are they all satisfied? I don't think adding :member => {...} is the right way doing this. So, can you tell me what to do? I want to have an URL like /teams/new-contest or something. My next question: what to do (after fixing the first problem), to validate presentence of all fields for new_contest.html.erb? In my normal new.html.erb, a user does not need all the data. But in new_contest.html.erb he does. Is there a way to make a validates_presence_of only for one action (in this case new_contest)? UPDATE: Now, I removed my :member part from my routes.rb and wrote: map.new_contest '/teams/contest/new', :controller => 'teams', :action => 'new_contest' Now, clicking on my link, it redirects me to /teams/contest/new - like I wanted - but I get another error called: Called id for nil, which would mistakenly be 4 -- if you really wanted the id of nil, use object_id I think this error is cause of @team at <% form_for @team, :url => { :action => 'create_content_team' } do |f| %> What to do for solving this error?

  • Anyone have ideas for solving the "n items remaining" problem on Internet Explorer?

    - by CMPalmer
    In my ASP.Net app, which is javascript and jQuery heavy, but also uses master pages and .Net Ajax pieces, I am consistently seeing on the status bar of IE 6 (and occasionally IE 7) the message "2 items remaining" or "15 items remaining" followed by "loading somegraphicsfile.png|gif ." This message never goes away and may or may not prevent some page functionality from running (it certainly seems to bog down, but I'm not positive). I can cause this to happen 99% of the time by just refreshing an .aspx age, but the number of items and, sometimes, the file it mentions varies. Usually it is 2, 3, 12, 13, or 15. I've Googled for answers and there are several suggestions or explanations. Some of them haven't worked for us, and others aren't practical for us to implement or try. Here are some of the ideas/theories: IE isn't caching images right, so it repeatedly asks for the same image if the image is repeated on the page and the server assumes that it should be cached locally since it's already served it in that page context. IE displays the images correctly, but sits and waits for a server response that never comes. Typically the file it says it is waiting on is repeated on the page. The page is using PNG graphics with transparency. Indeed it is, but they are jQuery-UI Themeroller generated graphics which, according to the jQuery-UI folks, are IE safe. The jQuery-UI components are the only things using PNGs. All of our PNG references are in CSS, if that helps. I've changed some of the graphics from PNG to GIF, but it is just as likely to say it's waiting for somegraphicsfile.png as it is for somegraphicsfile.gif Images are being specified in CSS and/or JavaScript but are on things that aren't currently being displayed (display: none items for example). This may be true, but if it is, then I would think preloading images would work, but so far, adding a preloader doesn't do any good. IIS's caching policy is confusing the browser. If this is true, it is only Microsoft server SW having problems with Microsoft's browser (which doesn't surprise me at all). Unfortunately, I don't have much control over the IIS configuration that will be hosting the app. Has anyone seen this and found a way to combat it? Particularly on ASP.Net apps with jQuery and jQuery-UI? UPDATE One other data point: on at least one of the pages, just commenting out the jQuery-UI Datepicker component setup causes the problem to go away, but I don't think (or at least I'm not sure) if that fixes all of the pages. If it does "fix" them, I'll have to swap out plug-ins because that functionality needs to be there. There doesn't seem to be any open issues against jQuery-UI on IE6/7 currently... UPDATE 2 I checked the IIS settings and "enable content expiration" was not set on any of my folders. Unchecking that setting was a common suggestion for fixing this problem. I have another, simpler, page that I can consistently create the error on. I'm using the jQuery-UI 1.6rc6 file (although I've also tried jQuery-UI 1.7.1 with the same results). The problem only occurs when I refresh the page that contains the jQuery-UI Datepicker. If I comment out the Datepicker setup, the problem goes away. Here are a few things I notice when I do this: This page always says "(1 item remaining) Downloading picture http:///images/Calendar_scheduleHS.gif", but only when reloading. When I look at HTTP logging, I see that it requests that image from the server every time it is dynamically turned on, without regard to caching. All of the requests for that graphic are complete and return the graphic correctly. None are marked code 200 or 304 (indicating that the server is telling IE to use the cached version). Why it says waiting on that graphic when all of the requests have completed I have no idea. There is a single other graphic on the page (one of the UI PNG files) that has a code 304 (Not Modified). On another page where I managed to log HTTP traffic with "2 items remaining", two different graphic files (both UI PNGs) had a 304 as well (but neither was the one listed as "Downloading". This error is not innocuous - the page is not fully responsive. For example, if I click on one of the buttons which should execute a client-side action, the page refreshes. Going away from the page and coming back does not produce the error. I have moved the script and script references to the bottom of the content and this doesn't affect this problem. The script is still running in the $(document).ready() though (it's too hairy to divide out unless I absolutely have to). FINAL UPDATE AND ANSWER There were a lot of good answers and suggestions below, but none of them were exactly our problem. The closest one (and the one that led me to the solution) was the one about long running JavaScript, so I awarded the bounty there (I guess I could have answered it myself, but I'd rather reward info that leads to solutions). Here was our solution: We had multiple jQueryUI datepickers that were created on the $(document).ready event in script included from the ASP.Net master page. On this client page, a local script's $(document).ready event had script that destroyed the datepickers under certain conditions. We had to use "destroy" because the previous version of datepicker had a problem with "disable". When we upgraded to the latest version of jQuery UI (1.7.1) and replaced the "destroy"s with "disable"s for the datepickers, the problem went away (or mostly went away - if you do things too fast while the page is loading, it is still possible to get the "n items remaining" status). My theory as to what was happening goes like this: The page content loads and has 12 or so text boxes with the datepicker class. The master page script creates datepickers on those text boxes. IE queues up requests for each calendar graphic independently because IE doesn't know how to properly cache dynamic image requests. Before the requests get processed, the client area script destroys those datepickers so the graphics are no longer needed. IE is left with some number of orphaned requests that it doesn't know what to do with.

  • Simplemodal: four times on a page leads to extra "next" or "previous" button

    - by DDF
    We are experiencing a problem with each instance of the call to the simplemodal div class .basic-modal-content adding an extra next or previous button in the modal windows. We are using simplemodal in four places on a page using a common JS in the container (provided below) and a common CSS format for the modal windows. In one area we are using six "statements" in a window with a next and previous button. I would include a picture of the modal window but it's being disallowed by the system as I'm a first time poster to this forum. In the other three areas we are using three "biographies" in a similar window with the ability to see each of the three bios from each of modal windows. We are using a common Simplemodal JS script in the page which has the following code: <script> $(function() { $('a').each(function() { $(this).click(function() { $('#modal_' + this.id).modal({ overlayClose:true }); }); }); var num_divs = $('div.basic-modal-content').length; $('div.basic-modal-content').each(function(i) { /* if there is a previous div add a link to it */ if (i > 0) { /* get the ID for previous div */ var prev_id = $(this).prev('.basic-modal-content').attr('id'); /* add the link with click event */ $('<a href="#" class="simplemodal-container-prev"></a>') .click(function() { $.modal.close(); $('#' + prev_id).modal({overlayClose:true}); }) .appendTo($(this)); } /* if there is a next div add a link to it */ if (i < num_divs - 1) { /* get the ID for next div */ var next_id = $(this).next('.basic-modal-content').attr('id'); /* add the link with click event */ $('<a href="#" class="simplemodal-container-next"></a>') .click(function() { $.modal.close(); $('#' + next_id).modal({overlayClose:true}); }) .appendTo($(this)); } }); }); </script> and some CSS to create an image for each window that shows the progress bar through the ul/li list. The code to produce the above looks like this: <h1>Our HEADLINE</h1> <div id='basic-modal'> <ul> <li><a href='#' id='one'>TEXT 1</a></li> <li><a href='#' id='two'>TEXT 2</a></li> <li><a href='#' id='three'>TEXT 3</a></li> <li><a href='#' id='four'>TEXT 4</a></li> <li><a href='#' id='five'>TEXT 5</a></li> <li><a href='#' id='six'>TEXT 6</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="basic-modal-content" id="modal_one"> <img src="link to modal_one.png" alt="progress bar"/> <h3>headline text</h3> <p>body text</p> </div> <div class="basic-modal-content" id="modal_two"> <img src="link to modal_two.png" alt="progress bar"/> <h3>headline text</h3> <p>body text</p> </div> <div> ... other divs 3 4 and 5 </div> <div class="basic-modal-content" id="modal_six"> <img src="link to modal_six.png" alt="progress bar"/> <h3>headline text</h3> <p>body text</p> </div> </div> The ul/li structure works on the main page for the links. The modal windows allow one to browse through all of the six TEXTs. There is a common CSS style to the windows and a custom image in each of the modal windows derived from the "#modal_[number] img" CSS in the form of a progress bar. It should be noted that the first modal window in the first set of ul/li (the six) do not exhibit the extra previous button. Here is the relevant code from one of the three biographic links. You will note that the biographic links each have to have all three in this current configuration. <h4>Our HEADLINE</h4> <div class="bottom-widget-text"> <img src="picture" alt="not relevant to the simplemodal problem"/> <p>Read about person NUMBER 1 by clicking on the following link: <a href='#' id='seven' >Expand</a> </p> </div> <div class="basic-modal-content" id="modal_seven"> <img src="link to modal_seven.png" alt="portrait 1"/> <h3>headline text</h3> <p>BIOGRAPHY</p> </div> <div class="basic-modal-content" id="modal_eight"> <img src="link to modal_eight.png" alt="portrait 2"/> <h3>headline text</h3> <p>BIOGRAPHY</p> </div> <div class="basic-modal-content" id="modal_nine"> <img src="link to modal_nine.png" alt="portrait 3"/> <h3>headline text</h3> <p>BIOGRAPHY</p> </div> </div> Similarly the "biographies" open up from a different area of the page. The modal windows allow one to browse through all three of the BIOs. The bios use the SAME CSS style windows and a custom image in each of the modal windows derived from the "#modal_[number] img" CSS in the form of a portrait. Everything is working well except one thing: the first six windows have an extra next button that leads to an image of the close widow button only. Similarly, the BIOs pages have extra previous button that leads to the same "close button only" shown above. We want to maintain the same base CSS for the modal windows for this page. We want to keep the JS simple. The only behavior that is bad is the extra previous and next bottons that appear to be spurious. So is this a fix to the JS? Or do I have the instances of the modal windows too entangled? Perhaps there is a better method for having multiple instances of a simplemodal window on the same page? Or is the problem the "#" variable being common to each of the uses of the JS? Thanks in advance. DDF

  • AS3 XML Slideshow Woes

    - by Chris
    Hello All, I am hoping someone out there can possibly shed some light on a couple issues I am having with an image slideshow I have been working on a simple slideshow for a project and everything was going great/as expected up until I created a function to hide the previous images before displaying the next. On the first pass through everything seems to run fine; once the slideshow starts over, the images don't show up, yet when it goes to load the following image, it plays the tween from the hide previous function which shows the image briefly before fading out. So essentially the display is blank, then the timer calls in the next slide and its a brief flash of an image fading out, and then blank again. Another issue I am having is the text that I am loading in from the XML does not seem to want to tween in or out as they are supposed to. Here is the code: import fl.transitions.Tween; import fl.transitions.easing.*; import fl.transitions.TweenEvent; import flash.display.BitmapData; import flash.display.Bitmap; import flash.display.Sprite; import flash.utils.Timer; import flash.events.TimerEvent; var filePath:String = "photo1.xml"; var iArray:Array = new Array(); var titleArray:Array = new Array(); var dateArray:Array = new Array(); var catArray:Array = new Array(); Any help would really be appreciated, and I thank you all in advance.

  • Opengl problem with texture in model from obj

    Hello! I writing small program in OpenGL, and I have problem ( textures are skew, and I dont know why, this model work in another obj viewer) What I have: http://img696.imageshack.us/i/obrazo.png/ What I want http://img88.imageshack.us/i/obraz2d.jpg/ This code where I load texture: bool success; ILuint texId; GLuint image; ilGenImages(1, &texId); ilBindImage(texId); success = ilLoadImage((WCHAR*)fileName.c_str()); if(success) { success = ilConvertImage(IL_RGB, IL_UNSIGNED_BYTE); if(!success) { return false; } } else { return false; } glGenTextures(1, &image); glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D, image); glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_MAG_FILTER, GL_LINEAR); glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_MIN_FILTER, GL_LINEAR); glTexImage2D(GL_TEXTURE_2D, 0, ilGetInteger(IL_IMAGE_BPP), ilGetInteger(IL_IMAGE_WIDTH), ilGetInteger(IL_IMAGE_HEIGHT), 0, ilGetInteger(IL_IMAGE_FORMAT), GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE, ilGetData()); ilDeleteImages(1, &texId); Code to load obj: triangles.clear(); std::ifstream in; std::string cmd; in.open (fileName.c_str()); if (in.is_open()) { while(!in.eof()) { in>>cmd; if(cmd=="v") { Vector3d vector; in>>vector.x; in>>vector.y; in>>vector.z; points.push_back(vector); } if(cmd=="vt") { Vector2d texcord; in>>texcord.x; in>>texcord.y; texcords.push_back(texcord); } if(cmd=="vn") { Vector3d normal; in>>normal.x; in>>normal.y; in>>normal.z; normals.push_back(normal); } if(cmd=="f") { Triangle triangle; std::string str; std::string str1,str2,str3; std::string delimeter("/"); int pos; int n; std::stringstream ss (std::stringstream::in | std::stringstream::out); in>>str; pos = str.find(delimeter); str1 = str.substr(0,pos); str2 = str.substr(pos+delimeter.length()); pos = str2.find(delimeter); str3 = str2.substr(pos+delimeter.length()); str2 = str2.substr(0,pos); ss<<str1; ss>>n; triangle.a= n-1; ss.clear(); ss<<str3; ss>>n; triangle.an =n-1; ss.clear(); ss<<str2; ss>>n; ss.clear(); triangle.atc = n-1; in>>str; pos = str.find(delimeter); str1 = str.substr(0,pos); str2 = str.substr(pos+delimeter.length()); pos = str2.find(delimeter); str3 = str2.substr(pos+delimeter.length()); str2 = str2.substr(0,pos); ss<<str1; ss>>n; triangle.b= n-1; ss.clear(); ss<<str3; ss>>n; triangle.bn =n-1; ss.clear(); ss<<str2; ss>>n; ss.clear(); triangle.btc = n-1; in>>str; pos = str.find(delimeter); str1 = str.substr(0,pos); str2 = str.substr(pos+delimeter.length()); pos = str2.find(delimeter); str3 = str2.substr(pos+delimeter.length()); str2 = str2.substr(0,pos); ss<<str1; ss>>n; triangle.c= n-1; ss.clear(); ss<<str3; ss>>n; triangle.cn =n-1; ss.clear(); ss<<str2; ss>>n; ss.clear(); triangle.ctc = n-1; triangles.push_back(triangle); } cmd = ""; } in.close(); return true; } return false; Code to draw model: glEnable(GL_TEXTURE_2D); glTexEnvi(GL_TEXTURE_ENV, GL_TEXTURE_ENV_MODE, GL_DECAL); glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D,image); glBegin(GL_TRIANGLES); for(int i=0;i<triangles.size();i++) { glTexCoord2f(texcords[triangles[i].ctc].x, texcords[triangles[i].ctc].y); glNormal3f(normals[triangles[i].cn].x, normals[triangles[i].cn].y, normals[triangles[i].cn].z); glVertex3f( points[triangles[i].c].x, points[triangles[i].c].y, points[triangles[i].c].z); glTexCoord2f(texcords[triangles[i].btc].x, texcords[triangles[i].btc].y); glNormal3f(normals[triangles[i].bn].x, normals[triangles[i].bn].y, normals[triangles[i].bn].z); glVertex3f( points[triangles[i].b].x, points[triangles[i].b].y, points[triangles[i].b].z); glTexCoord2f(texcords[triangles[i].atc].x, texcords[triangles[i].atc].y); glNormal3f(normals[triangles[i].an].x, normals[triangles[i].an].y, normals[triangles[i].an].z); glVertex3f( points[triangles[i].a].x, points[triangles[i].a].y, points[triangles[i].a].z); } glEnd(); glDisable(GL_TEXTURE_2D); Mayby someone find mistake in this

    In my code I'm creating a product list dynamically using PHP(see image) and the currosponding labels and image paths are stored into hidden fields(created dynamically using PHP) now on document.ready() method i set the first list item's imagepath to img's src and its remarks to label remarks using first hidden fields for remark and imagepath. and on listitem click i want to change it my function set these values to img and label rightly(checked using alerts) but when function ends it set the image src and remarks innertext to default that is set on document.ready() method now my question is can i prevent the document.ready() to be executed next time on javascript function call My View : As the images are reloaded so the page rendering is done again so the document.ready is called again and set these values again to default. Note : My page is not reloading any time only images and labels are being changed The listshown in image is just one group other group is also created dynamically . server side code in PHP <?php for($j=0;$j<count($productstr);$j++) { $valuerem = $productstr[$j]["pcode"]; $idrem = "rem".$j.$grp; $valueimg =$productstr[$j]["imgpath"]; $idimg = "img".$j.$grp; echo "<input type='hidden' value='$valuerem' id='$idrem' />" ; echo "<input type='hidden' value='$valueimg' id='$idimg' />" ; }?> <script> $(document).ready(function() { idrv < ? PHP echo $grp; ? > = 'rem0<?PHP echo $grp; ?>'; idmv < ? PHP echo $grp; ? > = 'img0<?PHP echo $grp; ?>'; $('#txt<?PHP echo $grp; ?>').text(document.getElementById(idrv < ?
