• Looking for 2D Cross platform suggestions based on requirements specified

  I am an intermediate developer with minor experience on enterprise mobile applications for iphone, android and blackberry looking to build my first ever mobile game. I did a google search for some game dev forums and this popped up so I thought I would try posting here as I lack luck elsewhere. If you have ever heard of the game for the iphone and android platform entitled avatar fight then you will have an idea of the graphic capabilities I require. Basically the battles which are automated one sprite attacking another doing cool animations but all in 2d. My buddy and I have two motivations, one is to jump into mobile Dev as my experience is limited as is his so we would like some trending knowledge (html5 would be nice to learn) . The other is to make some money on the side, don't expect much but polishing the game and putting our all will hopefully reward us a bit. We have looked into corona engine, however a lot of people are saying it is limited in the graphics department, we are open to learning new languages like lua, c++, python etc. Others we have looked at include phonegap, rhomobile, unity, and the list goes on. I really have no idea what the pros and cons of these are but for a basic battle sequence and some mini games we want to chose the right one. Some more things that we will be doing include things like card games, side scrolling flying object based games, maybe fishing stuff. We want to start small with these minigames and work our way up to the idea we would like to implement in the future. We only want to work in 2D. So with these requirements please help me chose a platform to work on (cross platform is what we are ideally leaning towards). Please feel free to throw in some pieces of advice you may have for newbie game developers like myself too. Thank you for reading!

  Is there a way to run Apache2 or Nginx with PHP on the iPhone? Im surprised so little info is available on this topic, as it seems quite interesting to host websites on an iPhone. Consider slow 3G connections or no 3G at all, and you want to demonstrate some webapplication you wrote... hosting them on the iphone would be an awsome way to fix the speed issues with the mobile network speeds. For the Ipad there are several addoptions available, nothing much usable on iphone / nginx apache2 search terms anywhere :( I want to host some websites on my iphone for demonstration purposes. So when im "out the office" Ill be able to very fast browse some websites that I host on the Iphone. there is no decent information out there, does anyone have a lead on how to do this? My question is specific to if nginx or apache2 can be run on the iphone, it would be nice if PHP would run on it too

• Antenna Aligner Part 7: Connecting the dots

  The app is basically ready, so I eagerly started to sort out creating the application entry in iTunes Connect. It's mostly intuitive actually, although I did have to create yet another icon for iTunes sized 512x512 pixels, damn lucky I did the original graphics as vector! It took me longer to write the application description than anything else, I'm so not a tech author! I didn't like the way you have to 'make up' an SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) number. I have to do some googling to find out that it really doesn't matter what it is! It should be more obvious what to do from the actual website itself. That aside, the rest of it was actually fairly straightforward. As well as the details of the application, iPhone and iPad screenshots were also required. This posed somewhat of a problem. The iPhone ones were easy (as I have one!), but I do not (yet) own an iPad . So I thought I'd leave the iPad screenshots out for now. Once the application details were sorted, I moved onto the rights and pricing. At the start of the project I had made the decision that I wouldn't charge any more than the lowest amount £0.59. I believe there is a market for this, but as my first foray into app development I didn't want to take the mick. I did realise, however, that I had built my app with a developer certificate and provisioning profile. This was fairly quickly corrected, and again Nomad made this very easy to switch over to the distribution certificate and provisioning profile. With a sense of excitement I cracked open iTunes connect and clicked the upload button ... ...slight snag... . when the Nomad project was started, Apple allowed uploads of these binaries via iTunes Connect. But this is no longer possible, the only upload path is via the Application Loader available from the Apple Developer program. This itself has one limitation, it only runs on a mac! D'OH!!!  Actually my language was somewhat more colourful when this fact came to light. After picking my laptop up off the floor and putting it back together... ok only joking, but I did nearly throw it out of frustration!... I started to consider the options; I briefly entertained the idea of buying a cheap mac from ebay... no, that defeats the whole object of what I'm doing, plus my wife wouldn't be impressed there are some guys out there in the interweb who will upload your app for a small fee...but I don't really like the idea of giving some faceless email address my apple developer login details, as well as my app binary! find some willing friend with a mac who would kindly let me use it... obviously this is the only sensible option. In the meantime, I informed the Nomad team about this slight 'issue' and they are currently investigating possible solutions...

• How to get the Three.js import/export scripts into Blender on Ubuntu?

  I have been working with 3D primitives in Three.js, but now I want to import some models. I plan on using Blender, which I have just downloaded with: sudo apt-get install blender However, I was instructed to put the import/export scripts in the .blender/2.62/scripts/addons folder, but it does not exist! .blender/2.62 does exist, but it only has a config folder. The next thing I did is manually changed the script search path in Blender's preferences from // to my homefolder/scripts, which contained the required io_mesh_threejs folder (which, in turn had the .py scripts inside). I saved the changes, restarted Blender, but still nothing: in the menu there is no mention of Three.js at all! What do I do? It would be great if I knew the installation path for Blender, because maybe I could put those scripts there manually. Where should it be installed? • Sorting a Grid of Data in ASP.NET MVC

  Last week's article, Displaying a Grid of Data in ASP.NET MVC, showed, step-by-step, how to display a grid of data in an ASP.NET MVC application. Last week's article started with creating a new ASP.NET MVC application in Visual Studio, then added the Northwind database to the project and showed how to use Microsoft's Linq-to-SQL tool to access data from the database. The article then looked at creating a Controller and View for displaying a list of product information (the Model). This article builds on the demo application created in Displaying a Grid of Data in ASP.NET MVC, enhancing the grid to include bi-directional sorting. If you come from an ASP.NET WebForms background, you know that the GridView control makes implementing sorting as easy as ticking a checkbox. Unfortunately, implementing sorting in ASP.NET MVC involves a bit more work than simply checking a checkbox, but the quantity of work isn't significantly greater and with ASP.NET MVC we have more control over the grid and sorting interface's layout and markup, as well as the mechanism through which sorting is implemented. With the GridView control, sorting is handled through form postbacks with the sorting parameters - what column to sort by and whether to sort in ascending or descending order - being submitted as hidden form fields. In this article we'll use querystring parameters to indicate the sorting parameters, which means a particular sort order can be indexed by search engines, bookmarked, emailed to a colleague, and so on - things that are not possible with the GridView's built-in sorting capabilities. By the instructions here Libtool library used but `LIBTOOL' is undefined The usual way to define `LIBTOOL' is to add `AC_PROG_LIBTOOL' to `configure.in' and run `aclocal' and `autoconf' again. • How do you set up the directory structure for a multilingual site without duplicating content?

  I want to make a website in two languages. I've looked around and settled on the directory option of separating both languages. How do I make it work? Let's say I have the following three files for the landing homepage, the English page and the Spanish page: http://www.domain.com/index.html http://www.domain.com/en/index.html http://www.domain.com/es/index.html Let's also say that /index.html will be in English, with a link to /es/index.html. In turn, /es/index.html will have a link to the English version. Would this be back to /index.html or to /en/index.html. How do I get both English versions (the one at the root and the one in the directory) to actually be the same file in the same directory? I'm new to this, so I'm not using any scripts yet. To me, the obvious solution is to duplicate both English versions and have the one at the root point to files under the /en/ directory, but I'm not a fan of duplication and I've learned that search engines really frown upon that. Anyone point me in the right direction?

• How can we control the device driver load order in Windows XP ?

  We are trying to install both an HP scanner and a Kodak scanner on an XP machine and the problem is that that HP's scanner driver always places itself into the first and default scanner device position. We are using an automation software on that machine which must use the Kodak scanner as the default scanner. The HP flatbed isn't needed to be the default scanner on that machine. It will always be used manually and through its own software. Our developers did some research 2 years ago couldn't find a solution. Nowadays we are preparing to expand our user base and this problem did surface again on machines with the same configuration. I did a more aggresive search pn the net and found some tips like this one : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/115486 I couldn't realize how to suit this solution to my scenario. Could someone please point me to the right direction ?

They are named : cn=stuff,dc=enterprise,dc=example,dc=com cn=things,dc=enterprise,dc=example,dc=com If I configure my client(s) to follow referals, I can search from dc=enterprise,dc=example,dc=com and find objects under cn=stuff and cn=things.   This is not a repeat of the now infamous "How do I move the turtle in LOGO?" Recently, I had the following conversation with my five year old daughter: Daughter: Daddy, do you write programs? Me: Yes! Daughter: Daddy, what's a program? Me: A program is a set of instructions that a computer follows. Daughter: Daddy, can I write a program too? Me: Sure! This got me scrambling to think of a very basic language that a five year old could get some satisfaction from mastering rather quickly. I'm ashamed to admit that the first thing that came to mind was this: 10 INPUT "Tell me a secret" A$ 20 PRINT "Wow really? :" A$ 30 GOTO 10 That isn't going to hold a five year old's attention for very long and it requires too much of a lecture. However, moving a turtle around and drawing neat pictures might just work. Sadly, my search for a LOGO interpreter yielded noting but ad ridden sites, flight simulators and a whole bunch of other stuff that I really don't want. I'm hoping to find a cross platform (Java / Python) LOGO interpreter (dare I call it simulator?) with the following features: Can save / replay commands (stored programs) Has an actual turtle Sound effects are a plus Have you stumbled across something like this, if so, can you provide a link? I hate to ask a 'shopping' sort of question, but it seemed much better than "Is LOGO appropriate for a five year old?"

• Help finding good players that would display music library as folder structure

  I have a big music library. Nothing special here. But I very much dislike the way usually music library is displayed in most recommended players, according to Artist/Album/Year/Genre tags, ignoring my folder structure or making it hardly accessible. The problem is that not all my music is tagged according to genre etc, but all is perfectly ordered by folder structure which takes into account all characteristics handled by tags, as well as many others, which I can change and specify at any time. (I can decide ordering my music by country, inside a sub-category like "baroque music", for example). The advantage of using folder structure in displaying media library is that all the logical structure is displayed, with all sub-categories, which can vary and be changed, visible at the same time. Some Players, like Clementine and Quod Libet, can display folders, but when comes to displaying only the library, they still display it only by tags. I am looking for some plugins to good players that would provide a solution to this, and I am looking for different solutions to this. Therefore I'll display as my own answer some solutions that I have already found and welcome other answers with new and better ways to achieve the same purpose. (Most welcome are of course players that, beside having the capability discussed here, would include other elementary features like playlists in tabs, search, and so forth.)

• SAN shows as unallocated in Windows Server

  Hello. We have a SAN drive that shows as unallocated in Windows Server 2008. I believe it is a raid 10 with 4+ disks. The disks are in good health. I think a server that we rebuilt tried to connect to the drive and re-initialized them, or re-wrote the partition table. (excuse my poor terminology). We ran TestDisk on the drive and it shows no partitions, so now we are doing a quick search (which is not so quick). Can anyone else suggest anything? Thanks, Gareth

• Recommended Method to Watch Amazon Prime using Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

  I realize that Hal is no longer in the Ubuntu Software Center for Ubuntu 14.04 and it is only available from a third party at this time. But I would like to know what Ubuntu's plans are for integrating DRM into Linux? Especially with Amazon's integration into the search tool, one would hope that they would make it easier for their Amazon Prime customers to watch Instant Videos. Is the repository for getting Hal for 13.10 safe for use? What will that break if I install it onto 14.04? Or do we need to find another OS that has DRM built into it? If Hal is okay to add to the OS using a third party repo, then why doesn't Ubuntu Software Center support it too? I imagine that Amazon's contract with the video copyright holders requires that they have some protection on electronically distributed media. I also imagine that getting Amazon to change is much harder than getting a bunch of software engineers to fix Ubuntu. Unless they don't want too. At which point Ubuntu isn't really a complete OS. Very disappointing. In general the ease of use of Ubuntu, the software center, and the large variety of applications was alluring. But breaking DRM wasn't a great idea. Can't wait to see what fails in our next update. Please tell us that there is a plan that is going to work in our future.

  I want to publish articles at a multilingual site. I want to be able to write an article in two languages and have them available on separate URLs: thesite.foo/english-breakfast thesite.com/engelsk-frukost If the users web browser is set to English I'd like to show a small notice at the top of the Swedish version with a link to the English one. The link should have an appropriate rel attribute for a translation (search for hreflang at http://diveintohtml5.org/semantics.html). There should be a way to list all articles belonging to these sets: Swedish only, English only, Swedish versions + English only, English versions + Swedish only. I'd like to publish these as four RSS-feeds. And I would like to have two versions of the main site, one in Swedish (showing Swedish versions + English only) and one in English (showing English versions). I shall be able to write the articles using Markdown, as that is the formatting language I find most convenient. There should be a way for users to comment. And some kind of way for me to protect myself against comment spam. I am leaning towards learning Drupal. I suspect I'll have to code this behavior myself as a module. To be frank I'd rather work with Java. Is Drupal the way to go? Or is there something more suitable for this project?

On opening the contact on my desktop, I was surprised to see, I need to upgrade my account to view the contact. Doing some research along with my wife, I found this simple security vulnerability from LinkedIn that can let anyone view a contact’s full profile even when you have a “not upgraded” LinkedIn account and that the contact is a “3rd + Everyone Else”. Here’s an example of what I am talking about. I just made a random search on LinkedIn for a contact whose name starts with Sacha. Do note, this is just a walkthrough and I am not publicizing any Sacha. I check the “3rd + Everyone Else” and find a “LinkedIn Member”. On clicking this person’s profile to view, I am presented with the following page, asking me to upgrade. Make a note of this page’s web address and you get the profile id from it. For example, for this contact, the page address is: http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=868XXX35 The Profile Id for this contact is 868XXX35. Now, open following page where the Profile Id is the same as the one we grabbed a moment earlier. https://touch.www.linkedin.com/?#profile/868XXX35 The mobile page exposes this contact information and you even get the possibility to connect to this person without an introduction mail (InMail). I hope someone from LinkedIn sees and issues a fix for this. I am pretty sure, it’s something that they don’t want the user to do without purchasing an upgrade package.

  I was speaking with a customer a few days ago about PeopleSoft Web Services.  The customer created a web service but when they went to deploy it, they had so many problems configuring ws-security, they pulled the service.  They spent several days trying to get it working but never got it working so they've put it on hold until they have time to work through the issues. Having gone through the process of configuring ws-security myself, I understand the complexity.  There is no magic 'easy' button to push.  If you are not familiar with all the moving parts like policies, certificates, public and private keys, credential stores, and so on, it can be a daunting task.  PeopleBooks documentation is good but does not offer a step-by-step example to follow.  Fear not, for those that want more help, there is a place to go. PeopleSoft released a Mobile Inventory Management application over a year ago.  It is a mobile app built with Oracle Fusion Application Development Framework (ADF) that accesses PeopleSoft content through standard web services.  Part of the installation of this app is configuring ws-security for the web services used in the application.  Appendix A of the PeopleSoft FSCM91 Mobile Inventory Management Installation Guide is called Configuring WS-Security for Mobile Inventory Management.  It is a step-by-step guide to configure ws-security between a server running Oracle Web Server Management (OWSM) and PeopleSoft Integration Broker.  Your environment might be different, but the steps will be similar, and on the PeopleSoft side, Integration Broker will remain a constant. • 12.10 wants to install multiarch :i386-packages

  I have an AMD64 system without any i386 multiarch packages. After successfully upgrading to 12.10, aptitude seems to want to install a few, and I can't tell why: $ sudo aptitude safe-upgrade Resolving dependencies... The following NEW packages will be installed: gcc-4.7-base:i386{a} libarmadillo3{a} libboost-date-time1.49-dev{a} libboost-serialization1.49-dev{a} libboost-serialization1.49.0{a} libboost-thread1.49-dev{a} libboost1.49-dev{a} libc6:i386{a} libgcc1:i386{a} libgdal1{a} libhdf5-7{a} libltdl7:i386{a} libnetcdfc7{a} libodbc1:i386{a} libreadline6:i386{a} libtinfo5:i386{a} odbcinst1debian2:i386{a} unixodbc:i386{a} Why libc6:i386, for example? I ask.. $ aptitude why libc6:i386 p icoutils:i386 Provides icoutils p icoutils:i386 Depends libc6:i386 (>= 2.8) ... alright, but why icoutils:i386? $ aptitude why icoutils:i386 p icoutils:i386 Provides icoutils But I already have the AMD64 version of icoutils: $ aptitude search icoutils i icoutils - Create and extract MS Windows icons and cursors p icoutils:i386 - Create and extract MS Windows icons and cursors Has some multiarch behavior changed recently, or am I just overlooking something? Addendum: Chasing down from gcc-4.7-base:i386, I'm led to qdbus:i386, which is up for installation since it provides qdbus... which I already have.

• Aircrack-ng, is it illegal?

  I just found out about this linux-based network toolset called aircrack-ng, and its pretty interesting, and I'm learning how to use it. But it just occured to me, that like a lot of linux programs, they're developed in foreign countries, with different laws. I did do a google search, and the only thing in regards to what i am asking that pops up is a question on another site. So, my question is, is it illegal in America, specifically Ohio, to use this program? I mean i know it has a legitimate purpose, but so does hemp. Also, sorry if this is the wrong place for this question, but I'm not exactly sure where it should go.
