  • Applications of concurrent queues and stacks in .NET 4

    .NET 4 includes new concurrent data structures. The Bag and Dictionary collections have obvious applications but I cannot see any use for the Queue and Stack data structures. What are people using these for? Also, I've noticed that the design based upon linked lists incurs a lot of allocation and that destroys scalability. This is surprising given that the sole purpose of these collections is multicore programming. Is this an inherent limitation or are they just badly implemented?

    I need to get all substrings from string. For ex: StringParser.GetSubstrings("[start]aaaaaa[end] wwwww [start]cccccc[end]", "[start]", "[end]"); that returns 2 string "aaaaaa" and "cccccc" Suppose we have only one level of nesting. Not sure about regexp, but I think it will be userful.

    I have looked at a couple of books and all I have looked at were just discussing the technicalities of OOP. By technicalities I mean, here's a concept, here's some code, now get working. I have yet to see a book that discusses the architectural process, what are the ways of doing this, why doing this is bad, how to actually incorporate design patterns in a real-world project, etc. Can you recommend a good resource or book? I am mainly programming with PHP but a language-agnostic book/resource would do :)

    Say I have a base class TestBase where I define a vistual method TestMe() class TestBase { public virtual bool TestMe() { } } Now I inherit this class: class Test1 : TestBase { public override bool TestMe() {} } Now, using Reflection, I need to find if the method TestMe has been overriden in child class - is it possible? What I need it for - I am writing a designer visualizer for type "object" to show the whole hierarchy of inheritance and also show which virtual methods were overridden at which level.

    I know how to use comma in printf as grouping separator to print value in format like 1,000,000.00 to print it that way I'm using command System.out.printf ("%,.2f", value); but how to use space as grouping separator to format value like 1 000 000.00 I tried to find solution but solutions with using DecimalFormat look at now to complicate for me (beginner level).     Python needs a framework, so does Java (for the web). I don't know much about Ruby or Coldfusion. But is there another language out there for the web that can stand alone as it is without a need for a framework or without strict adherence to a design pattern (MVC and the likes) aside from PHP?
