    Hey guys i just have two questions about two methods used in many controllers/servlets in my app: 1-what is the difference between calling a static method in a util class or a non static method (like methods dealing with dates i.e getting current time,converting between timezones), which is better ? 2-what is the difference between calling a method(contain too many logic like sending emails) in the controller directly or running this method in a different thread ?

  • Factory(:user) hits database?

    Playing around with factories, which I read weren't supposed to hit the database, allowing you to avoid having your controller specs interacting with the DB. But when I fire up the Rails console in test and use a factory to create a sample user, I noticed an actual user gets created in the database. Huh? (Using Rails 2.3.8 and Factory Girl 1.2.3.)

  • Programmatically Update UITableView in Response to Button Press

    I have a completely custom view that holds a UITableView and a Custom Tab Bar (basically a UIView that contains 6 UIButtons). I am loading data from a plist file, and then I am sorting the data into multiple arrays based on categories (an array for misc items, and array for mail items, etc.) Each button in the tab bar represents a category, and when I press the button I call the custom function "miscSelected" and so on. How can I have the table view completely reload and then display the tableview based on the array selected (select the misc category and the tableview clears itself and loads the misc array data, same for any other category)? The method I have experimented with is created and NSString named "selection" and then in each button function I set selected to equal whatever section I am selecting. In my cellForRoxAtIndexPath method I have this: if ([self.selection isEqualToString:@"All Items"]) { NSArray *mainDataArray = [NSArray arrayWithContentsOfFile:self.plistFile]; NSSortDescriptor *brandDescriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"name" ascending:YES]; NSArray *sortDescriptors = [NSArray arrayWithObject:brandDescriptor]; self.sortedData = [mainDataArray sortedArrayUsingDescriptors:sortDescriptors]; } else if ([self.selection isEqualToString:@"Misc Items"]){ self.sortedData = [NSArray arrayWithContentsOfFile:self.plistFile]; } cell.itemTitle.text = [[self.sortedData objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] objectForKey:@"name"]; For the sake of example and testing I am simply displaying the same data, just one button displays it in alphabetical order and the other does not. This code works only when I start to scroll down and back up, but it does not actually update on button press. Calling myTable reloadData does not do anything either. I am unsure how to prevent a prefix, for example if I am in domain.com/admin/orders or domain.com/user/order which are admin_ and user_ actions and the navigation menu contains links to pages displays (controller pages action display, **) when they are clicked on they are automatically prefixed by the current prefix. How can I set in the router file to redirect wildcards prefixes (ie. /pages/)?

  • Easier way to populate form data and validation data in Code Igniter?

    I'm new to code igniter. I'm following the form validation tutorial found at: http://www.codeignitor.com/user_guide/libraries/validation.html I find I am typing too much in the view to get the form to re-populate. For example, here's what one of my INPUT fields look like: <input type="text" name="email" value="<?=$this->validation->email ? $this->validation->email : $array_db_values['email'] ?>" /> Basically, when the form first loads, it should show a value from the database. If the user alters the value and it fails validation, then the form should post the erroneously submitted value. Does code igniter have a "cleaner" way of rendering this kind of output? Otherwise, I'm going to do something like this in my controller: $array_db_values = getdbresults(); if($_POST['submit']) foreach($_POST as $key=>$val) $array_db_values[$key] = $val; That way, if postback data exists, it will always override database values. Then input fields in my view can simply be: <input type="text" name="email" value="<?=$array_db_values['email'] ?>" /> Is there a better/native CI way to handle this scenario?

  • Ajax page.replace_html problems with partials in Rails

    Hello, I am having a problem with a pretty simple AJAX call in rails. I have a blog-style application and each post has a "like" feature. I want to be able to increment the "like" on each post in the index using AJAX onclick. I got it to work; however, the DOM is a bit tricky here, because no matter what partial its looking at, it will only update the TOP partial. so if I click "like" on post #2, it will update and replace the "likes" on post #1 instead. Code for _post partial: <some code here...> <div id="postcontent"> Posted <%= post.created_at.strftime("%A, %b %d")%> <br /> </div> <div id="postlikes"> <%= link_to_remote 'Like', :url => {:controller => 'posts', :action => 'like_post', :id => post.id}%> <%= post.like %> </div> code for _postlikes partial: <div id="postlikes"> <%= link_to_remote 'Like', :url => {:controller => 'posts', :action => 'like_post', :id => @post.id}%> <%= @post.like %> </div> </div> like_post.rjs code: page.replace_html "postlikes", :partial => "postlikes", :object => @post page.visual_effect :highlight, "postlikes", :duration => 3 So this all works properly for the first "postcontent" div. But this is an index of posts, so if I wanted to updated the second "postcontent" div on the page, it will still replace the html of the first. I understand the problem, I just don't know how to fix it :) Thanks in advance!

  • Isotope.js help: Changing item image after sorting

    This is a general question on how to go about building a project I have in mind, and the best way to set off on the right foot. I am fairly new to JS, please be gentle. I want to use isotope.js (or a similar script) to display a page with multiple items (about 30 different plants found in a garden) and the ability to sort them by seasons of the year + "what is most beautiful now" + and "view all" (a total of 6 categories) . On load, or when sorted by either "what is beautiful now" or "view all", I need each item to reflect the image of the current season we are in. When sorted by season, I need those "current" images to switch over to a designated seasonal image of that plant. Therefore, each sortable item will ultimately have 4 different versions with 4 different images in the background ready to surface when plants are sorted. (perhaps 5 if it makes more sense to have a "current" version besides the 4 seasonal versions.) My question: what approach can I take to achieve this effect in a manageable way? Can isotope apply a class to items sorted? Assuming it can: Should each item have 4 inline images, each with a css class, that I then control by using display:inline; and display:none; properties from my stylesheets? (I worry that this approach would significantly increase load times) Would it make more sense to create a blank dummy div who's background I control similarly to the example above -relying mostly on CSS. Or is there some other way involving JS I am overlooking? Any help would be appreciated. Examples of what you suggest would be immensely helpful.

  • How can i get my delete messages function just appear for the user's own messages left on their friends page?

    I had been working on this trying the delete message button to work on my own profile page of my site. When I delete a message left by a friend it not only deletes it from the screen but deletes it from the database. The messages in the database have 4 fields: message_id, from, to and message. The delete button will not appear beside other friends comments on this page: <li><?=$message['from']?> says...: "<?=$message['message']?>"</li> Now I've tried creating a new delete Message function to no success so far, am I better off doing this than calling the same function? As this didnt work either.

  • CSS issue with multi-accordion

    Alright, I got some help earlier with this, but it never truly got resolved. I'm pretty sure I'm having a CSS issue, but I just can't figure out how to correct it. Currently, I have these accordions working perfectly, they collapse, expand, expand again when told to etc. The problem I'm having is aligning the content within these accordion divs. Ideally, when everything is default (collapsed) all I want seen is the thumbnail image and the Headline. Then if the user wishes, they click on the headline and it expands and if they want to make a comment or view comments, they can click once again to expand that. Here's the thing, I have to make the height 62px so everything will fit in and just not float all over the place. This creates a problem with the "View Comments" to "Text Here" area, as you can tell it has outrageous space between the two. The other issue is, as I currently have it I'm forcefully indenting the article text so that it doesn't TEXT WRAP underneath the thumbnail image. Basically, I want it split into 2 columns so nothing ever goes beneath the image, but working with this accordion and divs inside the divs it's proving to be difficult for me.     Hi, if I put a custom class in session, then in an action method I get an instance of that class from session, and populate some fields, I noticed that when a different controller gets that class from session, those fields are populated. Even though after the first call didn't save the updated class back in session. is this typical behavior for session objects? I thought I had to use keyword 'static' on the class in session for this to happen thanks

  • Help adding a backgroundView to UITableViewCell

    I'm getting really desperate trying to add a UIImageView to UITableViewCell.backgroundView. All my efforts have resulted in this crappy rendering: It looks like the cell's label's white background is sitting on top of cell's background and covering portions of it. I tried setting the label's background color to clear, or some other color and it does not have any event. It is always white. The reason I know it's the text label's background causing this white area is that if I don't do [cell setText:@"Cell text here"]; the white area is gone and I see just the cell's background image. Here's the code that I'm using.   • UITableView populating EVERY OTHER launch

    I am having a problem that I cant seem to get to the bottom of. In my view did load code, I am creating an array and attempting to populate the table. For some reason it only populates the data on EVERY OTHER time the app is run. I put logs in viewDidLoad which runs as does viewWillAppear and outputs the correct count for the array. Also, the UITableView specicic methods get called when it works and they just don't get called when it doesnt work. I cant figure out the root of this problem. Again this occurrence happens exactly 50% of the time.     I have a clickable TextView that I want to give some colors to. But I don't know how. Here are the relevant code snippets from my two files that I'm working with: TextView title = new TextView(this); title.setLayoutParams(new LayoutParams(LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT, LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT)); title.setTextColor(R.color.textcolor); title.setText(titleLine); title.setTypeface(null, Typeface.BOLD); title.setClickable(true); title.setId(idLine); title.setFocusable(true); title.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { /* Irrelevant code */ } }); And this is my textcolor.xml file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> <item android:state_pressed="true" android:color="#000000"/> <!-- pressed --> <item android:state_focused="true" android:color="#000000"/> <!-- focused --> <item android:color="#000000"/> <!-- default --> </selector> When I use the textcolor-file by typing title.setTextColor(R.color.textcolor);, the textcolor just becomes grey, regardless if I press it or so. Which is strange since I have written "#000000" in all color fields. But if I remove the setTextColor code, gets the textView a light grey color, and when I press it, it becomes black. But that aren't the colors that I want. So, can anyone help me with this problem? Just to clarify: I want to be able to specify the colors for the text when it's normal, pressed and focused.

  • Django url rewrites and passing a parameter from Javascript

    As a bit of a followup question to my previous , I need to pass a parameter to a view. This parameter is not known until the JS executes. In my URLConf: url(r'^person/device/program/oneday/(?P<meter_id>\d+)/(?P<day_of_the_week>\w+)/$', therm_control.Get_One_Day_Of_Current_Thermostat_Schedule.as_view(), name="one-day-url"), I can pass it this URL and it works great! ( thanks to you guys). http://127.0.0.1:8000/personview/person/device/program/oneday/149778/Monday/ In My template I have this: var one_day_url = "{% url personview:one-day-url meter_id=meter_id day_of_the_week='Monday' %}"; In my javascript: $.ajax({ type: 'GET', url: one_day_url , dataType: "json", timeout: 30000, beforeSend: beforeSendCallback, success: successCallback, error: errorCallback, complete: completeCallback }); When this triggers it works fine except I dont necessarily want Monday all the time. If I change the javascript to this: var one_day_url = "{% url personview:one-day-url meter_id=meter_id %}"; and then $.ajax({ type: 'GET', url: one_day_url + '/Monday/', dataType: "json", timeout: 30000, beforeSend: beforeSendCallback, success: successCallback, error: errorCallback, complete: completeCallback }); I get the Caught NoReverseMatch while rendering error. I assume because the URLconf still wants to rewrite to include the ?P\w+) . I seems like if I change the URL conf that breaks the abailty to find the view , and if I do what I do above it gives me the NoREverseMatch error. Any guidance would be appreciated.
