  • How can I use Linksys WPSM54G print server as a bridge for another machine AND also share the printe

    I have a Linksys WPMS54G currently sharing a printer via the USB port with the rest of my network via the wireless. Is there any way to set it up so that the ethernet port is bridged over the wireless adapter portion? i.e., be able to uplink another machine or switch into the network via the WPMS54G's ethernet port? Update: The network architecture is as follows: (1) Linksys WRT54G router that serves as a router, DHCP server, and wireless access point for the network. Fairly standard configuration (3) Laptops that are used throughout the house via wifi (1) Linksys WPSM54G printer server that connects via wireless to the router, in a separate room with a printer attached to print seerver's USB port along with (1) Un-networked desktop in the same room Since the printer is plugged into the USB port of the WPSM54G, I am wondering if I can connect the desktop to the ethernet port of the WPSM54G and have it bridged over the wifi to the router. The twist here is that the ethernet is initially used to connect the wireless print server to the router (for configuration, can't configure it wirelessly if you are initially on a encrypted network). Now instead of using that ethernet port as a way to connect the print server to the network (via the router), I want to use the ethernet port as a way to connect another computer to the network, in effect bridging into the router via the print server, while still sharing the printer (attached via USB) through the print server. If this is not clear, please comment. To be clear, the computer I want to connect/bridge into the network does not have a wireless card, is far from the router, and I do not want to lay ethernet cable to connect it. While I could certainly buy a legitimate wireless bridge to accomplish this, I figured since the print server already has an ethernet port, see if I can't use that.

  • Got black screen when recording screen from xvfb by ffmpeg x11grab device

    I'm trying to record video from a firefox run by xvfb-run but it always output nothing in the video file except black screen. Here's what I did: start a firefox, open google.com: $ xvfb-run firefox https://google.com Then it will use the default display server number 99. I can see the display information by command xdpyinfo -display :99. A screenshot works very well by command: $ xwd -root -silent -display :99.0 | xwdtopnm |pnmtojpeg > screen.jpg Start using ffmpeg to record a video: $ ffmpeg -f x11grab -i :99.0 out.mpg When I play the video file out.mpg, there's black screen all the time. Is there any parameter I missed? Updates I made progress that the video works instead of black screen only by this command: $ ffmpeg -y -r 30 -g 300 -f x11grab -s 1024x768 -i :99 -vcodec qtrle out.mov Notice it requires the screen resolution matches by specify more options to xvfb-run: $ xvfb-run -s "-screen 0 1224x768x16" -a firefox http://google.com But I still want to get more feedbacks and answers here.

  • Lost Internet access in Windows XP Mode virtual pc under Windows 7

    In my office, I created and configured a virtual pc in Windows XP Mode. Everything was working fine. Now I'm on the road, and my Internet access (in the host operation system) is either via a hotel wifi or through my Verizon air card. Either way, I've lost Internet access in the virtual pc. I went into the Virtual PC settings, and set the Networking value to Shared Networking (NAT). Actually, I've tried every combination I can find, but I can't get from the virtual pc to the web. I'm hoping to use the virtual box at a client site, so I really need that access. Is there anything I can do to get it back? Thanks for any help.

    I have a DNS server set up on one of my machines using BIND 9.7 Everything works fine with it. On my Windows 7 desktop, I have statically-assigned all network values. I have one DNS server set -- my DNS server. On my desktop, I can ping a third machine by IP fine. I can nslookup the hostname of the third machine fine.   • Simple image editor to select area of image as wallpaper

    I've spent way to many hours looking for software to do the following simple task, so now I'll ask. I need software that will open an image and put a 'crop box' on it. You can set the 'crop box' to standard screen resolutions (1024x768) or define a custom one. You can move the 'crop box' around on the image to select the area you want. You can re-size the 'crop box' (selecting a corner and dragging w/mouse) and it maintains the correct aspect ratio. You can save the area in the 'crop box' to use as the Windows background. (The software doesn't need to set it as the background, I can do that myself in Windows XP.) The free software sites (CNET.com, etc.) have lots of image editing software that do things much more complicated than this simple task. I've spent too many hours downloading them to see if they will do this particular task. The ones I've tried would require manual trial and error to get the part of an image that I want saved as an image, with the correct aspect ratio so Windows doesn't screw with it (stretch, tile, crop) when I select it as the wallpaper.

  • Easiest linux distro creation

    Hello everyone! I have been trying to create my own customized distro of linux (preferably some kind of Debian system like Debian, Ubuntu, Knoppix, etc). I want to make it specifically for playing games. This is just a pet project for me and while I know linux pretty well (bash, gcc, g++, gdb, etc), I'm not that great with knowing the kernel. So that puts making my own distro from scratch out of the question. I went on to trying to create remasters of Knoppix and it worked for me but it was a very long process since knoppix is meant to be a live CD and I was running it in VirtualBox. So what is the easiest and fastest method of making your own distro? Also, can I install ubuntu or some kind of linux to a computer make changes to it, and then make a distro off of that installation? Please help me with this, Thanks

What is the fastest way in terms of execution time to check if User A is a "friend" of user B? The "dumb" way would be to fetch whole List and then check if user exists there but that's obviously the overhead.   • IE8 Download's Writing to C:\?

    Every time I download something using IE8 (running on Win 7) I get asked where to save the file, I choose my downloads folder, then the download continues and when complete I get the following message: "C:\ is not accessible. Access Denied." And I so I can't access any files I download. So why on earth would IE8 be trying to write to the root, and where can I change this?   • Is the Microsoft Surface restricted to Chinese display language in China and Hong Kong

    I currently live in China so my only options to buy a Surface tablet is to buy it here or in Hong Kong. Problem is that by default the entire UI is in Chinese. In the x86 version of Windows 8 you can install additional language packs to solve this, but I'm wondering if this is true for the tablet as well In the shop (Sunning) they will not let me try that, and if I buy one and it turns out you can't install language packs than I'm pooched. Can't find any official information on it either, at least nothing that refers to the tablet directly. (and whether or not the Chinese version is restricted in some way)

    Sorry if this question exist already, I did some searches but could not find one myself. I am looking for the best programs to copy and paste stuff in windows more easily. So let's say instead of the default copy/paste one item at a time, I could have 5 different paragraphs that could all be pasted somewhere seperately. Hopefully this is not to confusing. Instead of bveing able to paste 1 item I would like to have a list of items that can be pasted or some similar functionality under windows. Please help make me more productive, I frequently need to copy and paste different sets of data.     Possible Duplicate: A minimal Linux distribution for my ASUS EEE PC I am looking at buying an Asus eee PC and would like some input from the community on the different distros / OS's out there for it. I have heard that the Xandros distro that comes with the net-book isn't that great (lack of software, etc.), but I wonder what all the SuperUsers out there think. Please answer with one distro / OS per answer, and list (at least some of) the advantages and disadvantages of your choice. On reaching the Readiness Checks I'm getting an error on the 'Configuration Database' : [ Configuration Database ] TF255440: The following account has a SQL Server login, but the login was denied access: DOMAIN\User. The server selected to host the databases for Team Foundation Server is: MYSERVER.     I installed Linux Mint 12 on my Dell Studio 15 and everything worked perfectly up until I tried updating the STA Driver for the Broadcom (BCM4312) wireless controller. I've tried these bash commands in order and I still don't have wireless. sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-installer I've also tried uninstalling everything with synaptic package manager including broadcom-sta-common and broadcom-sta-source, then restarting and running the above commands which didn't work either. What's the best way to do this on a Dell Studio 15?

  • alias gcc='gcc -fpermissive' or modifying ./configure script

    I am compiling quite big project from source. The compilation always ends with: error: invalid conversion from ‘const char*’ to ‘char*’ [-fpermissive] I have already compiled this project one year ago. So I know a solution to this. Actualy I found more solutions: Adding a typecast to appropriate line of cpp code (It went to endless number of changes in each file. So I found next solution.) Modifying a makefile to compile that file with -fpermissive option. (I had to modify a lot of lines in each makefile. So I find even better solution.) "g++" or "gcc" was stored in a variable so I added -fpermissive to these variables. This is the best solution I have. It is sufficient to add this option to each makefile once. Unfortunately this software has big number of subdirectories. So I need to modify more than 100 makefiles. It took me whole day one year ago. Is there a way how to do this faster. What about this? alias gcc='gcc -fpermissive' I am not familiar with aliases. But it should be easy to try this. Is the syntax correct? And is this one correct? alias g++='g++ -fpermissive' ? And do I need to export the alias somehow? Will the make program respect the alias? Should I maybe change ./configure script? Or the ./configure.in? Or other file?

  • Static routing on a TP-Link TL-WR1043ND

    My home network setup looks like this: Both routers are TP-Link TL-WR1043ND routers. The basement router handles all devices in the house that are connected via cable, handing out addresses for the 10.89.49.0/24 network via DHCP. Wireless doesn’t really work from the basement, as the signal is too weak, so I have disabled it. To do WiFi, I have added a second (identical) router downstairs. On the WAN side it is assigned the 10.89.49.101 IP address from the basement router, and on its LAN it provides the 10.89.7.0/24 network. Basic internet access works flawlessly from any device this way. I am now facing the problem that I am not able to communicate (e.g. SSH) between all devices, wired or wireless. I am able to connect from a wireless device to a wired device, for example SSH-ing from 10.89.7.X to 10.89.49.Y, but it doesn’t work the other way round—despite the fact that I have added a static route to the basement router: Does anybody have any idea on how to solve it? Both routers have already been upgraded to use the most recent firmware from TP-Link.com (Build 110429), to no avail. Errata: I would like to stick with the official firmware, switching to something like DD-WRT or OpenWrt only as a last resort.
