• Custom Output => List of Errors interpretation in VS2008 IDE.

  Hello, I have a "database solution" project in VS2008 - it generates SQL for more than one DB vendor from some sort of templates. In order to save time, I also have a tool in VS2008 configured (a Python script), which can compile an individual stored procedure. Now, with the Python script I have the freedom of processing the output and have it take on whatever form I want. I am toying with an idea of having these errors and warnings somehow recognized and populating the click-able Error / Warning list. This is what a typical Oracle error looks like: LINE/COL ERROR -------- ----------------------------------------------------------------- 324/5 PL/SQL: Statement ignored 324/82 PLS-00363: expression 'VSOURCE_SYSTEM_ID' cannot be used as an assignment target Warning: Procedure created with compilation errors. I scanned the log4net docs, but can't seem to find a way to use it within the log4net section of my web.config file. • How to bind data in silverlight? In case I don't know which columns would be retrieved from database

  I am trying to bind data from database to datagrid in silverlight. When I get typed data from DB, it is no problem since I use List<'EntityObject' collection object for example. However, sometimes I need data which I won't be able to know how many and what columns will be generated in design time. In this case, I cannot use typed collection like List<'EntityObject'. In addition, it is not able to use DataSet in silverlight. So, in this case and situation, how to solve this kind of problem? Thanks in advance Kwon

• Serving protected files using Nginx's X-Accel-Redirect header

  I'm trying to serve protected files using this directive in my nginx.conf: location /secure/ { internal; alias /home/ldr/webapps/nginx/app/secure/; } I'm passing in paths in the form: "/myfile.doc" and the file's path would be: /home/ldr/webapps/nginx/app/secure/myfile.doc I just get 404's when I access "http: //myserver/secure/myfile.doc" (space inserted after http to stop ServerFault converting it to a link) I've tried taking the trailing / off the location directive and that makes no difference. Two questions: How do I fix it! How can I debug problems like this myself? How can I get Nginx to report which path it's looking for? error.log shows nothing and access.log just tells me which url is being requested - this is the bit I already know! It's no fun trying things randomly without any feedback. I've also tried moving this block before the "location /" directive. The page I linked to has ^~ after 'location' giving: location ^~ /secure/ { ...etc... Not sure what that signifies but it didn't work either!

  Hi! I have following problem - i`m running Java WS application. The server side (Axis2 WS Modules on Apache Tomcat) is running at Ubuntu server. The problem is when i get some information from client side in cyrilic and store in database it goes like "?????". If i add data in db directly(From Remote MYSQL Console - there is NO problem). Before move to ubuntu server side was at Windows XP and there was no problem? Sorry for bad explanation, but i have no idea where to start! Thanks in advance!

• How to remove duplicate records in a table?

  I've got a table in a testing DB that someone apparently got a little too trigger-happy on when running INSERT scripts to set it up. The schema looks like this: ID UNIQUEIDENTIFIER TYPE_INT SMALLINT SYSTEM_VALUE SMALLINT NAME VARCHAR MAPPED_VALUE VARCHAR It's supposed to have a few dozen rows. It has about 200,000, most of which are duplicates in which TYPE_INT, SYSTEM_VALUE, NAME and MAPPED_VALUE are all identical and ID is not. Now, I could probably make a script to clean this up that creates a temporary table in memory, uses INSERT .. SELECT DISTINCT to grab all the unique values, TRUNCATE the original table and then copy everything back. But is there a simpler way to do it, like a DELETE query with something special in the WHERE clause?

  I'm having trouble getting Hibernate to perform a bulk insert on MySQL. I'm using Hibernate 3.3 and MySQL 5.1 At a high level, this is what's happening: @Transactional public Set<Long> doUpdate(Project project, IRepository externalSource) { List<IEntity> entities = externalSource.loadEntites(); buildEntities(entities, project); persistEntities(project); } public void persistEntities(Project project) { projectDAO.update(project); } This results in n log entries (1 for every row) as follows: Hibernate: insert into ProjectEntity (name, parent_id, path, project_id, state, type) values (?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?) I'd like to see this get batched, so the update is more performant. It's possible that this routine could result in tens-of-thousands of rows generated, and a db trip per row is a killer. Why isn't this getting batched? (It's my understanding that batch inserts are supposed to be default where appropriate by hibernate).

  At the moment I have two (maybe more) unordered lists which are sortable with jquery and ui. The things that work are that the lists are connected, items are draggable, items can be removed and a form that adds to the list. What I need however is a function that gets all the content for li items and json encode them ready to be sent off to some db function, or something. Im new to jquery however and cant find documentation for li items. Hope Ive explained this well. Daniel

• How can I select all records between two dates without using date fields?

  Hi, I have a MySQL DB and I need to be able to store dates earlier then 1970 - in my case, as early as 0 AD and earlier too, so I need a custom way to store dates. I have thought to use this format: Year - int(6) | Month -int(2) | day - int (2) | time - time | AD tinyint (1) | mya - int (11) But when it comes to actually using data in this format it becomes difficult. For example, if I want to get all records between two dates it would be like (pseudocode not SQL): get all where year between minYear and maxYear if year == minYear, month = minMonth if year == maxYear, month <= maxMonth if month == minMonth, day = minDay if month == maxMonth, day <= maxDay if day == minDay, time = minTime if day == maxDay, time <= maxTime or something, which seems like a right pain. I could store seconds before/after 0 AD, but that would take up way too much data! 2010 (EDIT: 2011) = 6.4 billion seconds since 0 AD. Does anybody have any ideas for this problem?

  This is probably a very simple question that I am working through in an MVC project. Here's an example of what I am talking about. I have an rdml file linked to a database with a table called Users that has 500,000 rows. But I only want to find the Users who were entered on 5/7/2010. So let's say I do this in my UserRepository: from u in db.GetUsers() where u.CreatedDate = "5/7/2010" select u (doing this from memory so don't kill me if my syntax is a little off, it's the concept I am looking for) Does this statement first return all 500,000 rows and then filter it or does it only bring back the filtered list?

• Model's method not being recognized when called

  I'm using ruby on rails 2.3.2 and also using the acts_as_taggable_on puglin. That generated me two db tables: tags and taggings. As I didn't need anything more from those, I didn't create a Tag model, for example. Now the project is more mature, I need to create some methods for tags, so I created a Tag model with some methods in it. The model looks something like this: class Tag < ActiveRecord::Base def self.get_parent parent = Tag.find(self.parent_id) return parent end end When I call it from a controller, it won't find the method. This is the code: tag = Tag.find(tag_id) the_parent = tag.get_parent This will throw an error saying: undefined method `get_parent' for #<Tag id: 13, name: "Historia", parent_id: 12> I don't know what's wrong. Any help will be appreciated.

• Approach to data wrapping

  I'm developing in PHP and MySQL. The information about the currently logged in user is stored in many different tables. The information that I need on each page, I preload. However if something is needed from a rarely accessed table - then I do $newdata = $db->Query('SELECT * FROM rare_table WHERE user_id='.$user->id); I would like to simplify the above to a point where I don't have to specify that the query should be limited to this particular user. An ideal function call would be: $newdata = $user->Query('SELECT * FROM rare_table'); Obviously I'd have to parse the SQL and add a WHERE clause. Or add to the already existing clause. Questions: are there tools to do this? How can I develop this? Is this even a good idea?

  In my project I have it set up so that all the tables in the DB has the property "id" and then I have the entity objects inherit from the EntityBase class using a repository pattern. All works great locally but after I deploy to cloud, all goes continuously, without any more waiting (3 seconds) between requests... Do you know why?

However, I recently moved the database to a server on the internet, and this query takes about 30 seconds to execute for the same number of object. Furthermore, looking at the mongoDB log, it seems to open about 8-10 connections to the DB to perform this query. So what I'd like to do is have the query the database for an array of primaryKeys and get them all back at once, then do the parsing in a loop afterwards, using one connection if possible. In each web application web.config, i add <sessionState mode="SQLServer" allowCustomSqlDatabase="false" sqlConnectionString="data source=server;user id=user;password=password" cookieless="false" timeout="7200" /> I create a session , Session["Data"] = "test" in Web App A and go to Web App B in the same browser to print it Response.Write(Session["Data"]); It shows NOTHING. I can see there are data in table : ASPStateTempApplications and ASPStateTempSessions under ASPState Database. Also, i dont see any error in event log. Can anyone think anything i may do wrong? • Streaming data to the browser as a file of unknown size

  I have some data which is queried from the database and I'd like to send it to the client as a csv file. The file size varies each time due to the fact that the DB data returned can be of any size. Instead of saving this file to the hard disk, I'd like to send it to the browser at the same time it's being processed into a CSV by my algorithm. Response.Write seems useless. For some reason, the file download dialog is only displayed once my processing is finished. This seems odd as I'm writting all my output to the Response.Output stream. I have downloaded files on the web before where the filesize is not known and the browser just keeps on downloading. Is there any way to achieve this? • Perl launched from Java takes forever

  I know this is an absolute shot in the dark, but we're absolutely perplexed. A perl (5.8.6) script run by Java (1.5) is taking more than an hour to complete. The same script, when run manually from the command line takes 12 minutes to complete. This is on a Linux host. Logging is the same in both cases and the script is run with the same parameters in both cases. The script does some complex stuff like Oracle DB access, some scp's, etc, but again, it does the exact same actions in both cases. We're stumped. Has anyone ever run into a similar situation? If not and if you were faced with the same situation, how would you consider debugging it?

  My project needs to handle three databases, that means three session factories. The thing is if i do something like this with fluent nhibernate: .Mappings(m = m.FluentMappings.AddFromAssembly(Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly())) the factories would pick up all the mappings, even the ones that correspond to another database I've seen that when using automapping you can do something like this, and filter by namespace: .Mappings(m = m.AutoMappings.Add(AutoMap.AssemblyOf().Where(t = t.Namespace == "Storefront.Entities"))) I havent found anything like this for fluent mappings, is it possible?? The only solutions I can think of are: either create separate assemblies for each db mapping classes or explicitly adding each of the entities to the factory configuration. I would prefer to avoid both, if possible. Thanks.

• How to create a changelog?

  I'm building a site that shows changes in deals that we have in our db. For example, if a deals status changes from pending to win, I want to show it, and if the value goes up or down, I want to show it, that kind of thing. Also, if you open the overview page, I want it to show the history of changes. So I need some kind of change logging, to be able to look in the past. How do I do this? It is a rails project, but I think that's irrelevant.
