  I'm using a WD Passport external hard drive with my notebook, and have a folder on this drive I need to share on my Windows network. Occasionally, when the drive is not plugged in, Windows appears to lose the shares, and I have to go in and share again after it's plugged in again.   I have a program that opens with a specific shortcut, but the shortcut seems to send parameters to the application. If I go directly to the target directory and double-click, it does not work. However, if I use the command line and pass in a certain argument, the application opens correctly. I want to open certain file types using the application, but the application must have the parameters, or it will not work. Is it possible to do this sort of thing?

  I've remotely installed VirtualBox OSE on my Gentoo box at home. I have everything set up and ready for the OS. However all the documentation I've read seems to say that you can only use the PUEL version in order to get remote access during installs - does anyone know if it's possible to do similar with the OSE but using VNC? Map system can only work if create mask includes octal 010 (S_IXGRP)." • FTP permissions problem

  I have vsftpd installed on ubuntu. I added a new created a new user and set the users home path to /var/www so I can ftp with that user directly to that location. And that all works, I can now FTP with the user I created directly to that location. However I whenever I ftp, I have no permissions to change anything. How can I change that? Thanks!!

  I have recently noticed wmpnetwk.exe using a more than usual amount of processor cycles. I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium on a Netbook. • Localhost service accessible from remote address

  I have on my home Windows box - Cassini server with localhost:10000. And I want it be accessible in internet by my static IP. Tried netcat, "nc -l -p 10001 localhost 10000". But it results in "invalid connection to [IP] from [IP] 16074" Also before that it was working on Opera Unite properly, but now only writes a message: "An error occured. See error log for details". I dont know where to get that log.

  I'm trying to just execute the java command and it's saying it cannot be found, even though it is there. Here's what my output looks like root@oneiric:/usr/lib/jvm/default-java/bin# ls -al java -rwxrwxrwx 1 uucp 143 5750 2012-09-20 11:14 java root@oneiric:/usr/lib/jvm/default-java/bin# ./java -su: ./java: No such file or directory So the ls shows it's there, but it doesn't seem to execute. Can someone explain why this is?

  I'm using Snow Leopard with Remote Desktop Connection attempting to access a Windows XP machine on a home network. If I specify the Windows PC's hostname it won't connect. Only by specifying the IP address does it connect. It's the same issue when trying to ping the Windows machine - IP address works, hostname doesn't. Both machines are on the same subnet connecting with a wireless router. Is there way to get OSX to resolve the Windows PC by its hostname?

  On Linux, we can simply do: cp -pr directory How to do that in Windows? Can it be done in Windows Explorer? Any GUI tool suggestions? It would be the best if I can keep the NTFS permissions and creation/modification/access time. At a minimum, I need to preserve the modification date for the files and the directories. Windows Explorer's copy does not preserve the modification date for directories.
