  • Struggling to "clear" a CGLayer -- can it even be done?

    - by Joe Blow
So I'm doing this repetitively - making a CGLayer, doing some processing, and then releasing it. This happens a lot in real time -- so surely there is a lot of overhead in making a whole new CGLayer each time? Surely it would be better to just keep lair around, and start fresh each time? However, I do not know any way, at all, to "erase" or "start from blank" a CGLayer?? Can anyone help on this? There is a function CGContextBeginPath(cc) but it's confusing: it seems to only clear out "that" path, it does not erase all of the CGLayer back to a blank canvas. how to return a CGLayer to a blank canvas????? Does anyone know? CGLayerRef lair = CGLayerCreateWithContext( UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(), CGSizeMake(1024,768), NULL); CGContextRef cc = CGLayerGetContext(ether); // various processing here CGContextAddPath(cc, somePath); // various processing here CGLayerRelease(lair); Any ideas?!

  • Best way to initialise / clear a string variable cocoa

    - by Spider-Paddy
I have a routine that parses text via a loop. At the end of each record I need to clear my string variables but I read that someString = @"" actually just points to a new string & causes a memory leak. What is the best way to handle this? Should I rather use mutable string vars and use setString:@"" between iterations?

  • How to separate model and view with Core Data?

    - by andrewebling
I have a subclass of UIView which draws itself based on data held in a corresponding model class, which is a subclass of NSManagedObject. The problem is, some fields in the data model (e.g. the position of the view) are already held in the view (i.e. the frame property in this case). I then have a data duplication/synchronization problem to solve. To complicate matters further, the view needs to update in response to changes made to the data model and the data model needs to be updated in responses made to the view (e.g. the user dragging it to a new location). What's the best way to solve this? Using KVO and references in both directions? Or is there a better approach?

  • Validation for textfield is not working

    - by MaheshBabu
Hi folks, I am using 4 Textfields in my application. I need to validate those textfields like,These 4 textfields Allow only o,1,....9 and . For that i use the code like this. - (BOOL)textField:(UITextField *)textField shouldChangeCharactersInRange:(NSRange)range replacementString:(NSString *)string { static NSCharacterSet *charSet = nil; if(!charSet) { charSet = [[[NSCharacterSet characterSetWithCharactersInString:@"0123456789."] invertedSet] retain]; } NSRange location = [string rangeOfCharacterFromSet:charSet]; return (location.location == NSNotFound); And first textfield allows digits 10,second third and fourth textfields allows less than 100. For that my code is if (textField.tag == 1) { NSString *newString = [textField.text stringByReplacingCharactersInRange:range withString:string]; double homevaluedouble = [newString doubleValue]; return !(homevaluedouble > 10000000000); } if (textField.tag == 2) { NSString *newString = [textField.text stringByReplacingCharactersInRange:range withString:string]; double validate = [newString doubleValue]; return !(validate > 100); } if (textField.tag == 3) { NSString *newString = [textField.text stringByReplacingCharactersInRange:range withString:string]; double validate = [newString doubleValue]; return !(validate > 100); } I write this code in - (BOOL)textField:(UITextField *)textField shouldChangeCharactersInRange:(NSRange)range replacementString:(NSString *)string { But textfields allows 0,1,..9 and . but digit limit is not working, if i remove 0,1,...9 then limit to textfield working. i am getting confuse with it. can any one pls help me,How can i resolve it. Thank u in advance.

  • Clear button at uisearchbar not working at all

    - by kevin.ng
I created a search bar programmatically and added to my view using the codes below: - (void)viewDidLoad { searchBar = [[UISearchBar alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(xPositionForSearchBar, yPositionForSearchBar, widthForSearchBar, heightForSearchBar)]; UIView *bg = [[searchBar subviews] objectAtIndex:0]; searchBar.delegate = self; searchBar.placeholder = @"Search record"; for(UIView *view in searchBar.subviews){ if([view isKindOfClass:[UITextField class]]){ UITextField *tf = (UITextField *)view; tf.delegate = self; break; } } [bg removeFromSuperview]; [self.view addSubview: searchBar]; } The code is implemented with UISearchBarDelegate and UITextFieldDelegate. I have tried using - (void)searchBarCancelButtonClicked:(UISearchBar *)aSearchBar { NSLog(@"cancel clicked"); searchBar.text = @""; [aSearchBar resignFirstResponder]; } - (BOOL)textFieldShouldClear:(UITextField *)textField { NSLog(@"clear"); [self performSelector:@selector(searchBarCancelButtonClicked:) withObject:searchBar afterDelay: 0.1]; return YES; } and yet, the text inside the searchBar is not cleared at all when i click on the "clear button" - a circle with a "X" inside. The clear button works when I implemented it in IB. Wonder why? Kindly advice, many thanks.

  • Find out when all processes in (void) is done?

    - by Emil
    Hey. I need to know how you can find out when all processes (loaded) from a - (void) are done, if it's possible. Why? I'm loading in data for a UITableView, and I need to know when a Loading... view can be replaced with the UITableView, and when I can start creating the cells. This is my code: - (void) reloadData { NSAutoreleasePool *releasePool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; NSLog(@"Reloading data."); NSURL *urlPosts = [NSURL URLWithString:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@", URL]]; NSError *lookupError = nil; NSString *data = [[NSString alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:urlPosts encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding error:&lookupError]; postsData = [data componentsSeparatedByString:@"~"]; [data release], data = nil; urlPosts = nil; self.numberOfPosts = [[postsData objectAtIndex:0] intValue]; self.postsArrayID = [[postsData objectAtIndex:1] componentsSeparatedByString:@"#"]; self.postsArrayDate = [[postsData objectAtIndex:2] componentsSeparatedByString:@"#"]; self.postsArrayTitle = [[postsData objectAtIndex:3] componentsSeparatedByString:@"#"]; self.postsArrayComments = [[postsData objectAtIndex:4] componentsSeparatedByString:@"#"]; self.postsArrayImgSrc = [[postsData objectAtIndex:5] componentsSeparatedByString:@"#"]; NSMutableArray *writeToPlist = [NSMutableArray array]; NSMutableArray *writeToNoImagePlist = [NSMutableArray array]; NSMutableArray *imagesStored = [NSMutableArray arrayWithContentsOfFile:[rootPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"imagesStored.plist"]]; int loop = 0; for (NSString *postID in postsArrayID) { if ([imagesStored containsObject:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@.png", postID]]){ NSLog(@"Allready stored, jump to next. ID: %@", postID); continue; } NSLog(@"%@.png", postID); NSData *imageData = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:[postsArrayImgSrc objectAtIndex:loop]]]; // If image contains anything, set cellImage to image. If image is empty, try one more time or use noImage.png, set in IB if (imageData == nil){ NSLog(@"imageData is empty before trying .jpeg"); // If image == nil, try to replace .jpg with .jpeg, and if that worked, set cellImage to that image. If that is also nil, use noImage.png, set in IB. imageData = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:[[postsArrayImgSrc objectAtIndex:loop] stringByReplacingOccurrencesOfString:@".jpg" withString:@".jpeg"]]]; } if (imageData != nil){ NSLog(@"imageData is NOT empty when creating file"); [fileManager createFileAtPath:[rootPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"images/%@.png", postID]] contents:imageData attributes:nil]; [writeToPlist addObject:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@.png", postID]]; } else { [writeToNoImagePlist addObject:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@", postID]]; } imageData = nil; loop++; NSLog(@"imagePlist: %@\nnoImagePlist: %@", writeToPlist, writeToNoImagePlist); } NSMutableArray *writeToAllPlist = [NSMutableArray arrayWithArray:writeToPlist]; [writeToPlist addObjectsFromArray:[NSArray arrayWithContentsOfFile:nowPlist]]; [writeToAllPlist addObjectsFromArray:[NSArray arrayWithContentsOfFile:[rootPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"imagesStored.plist"]]]; [writeToNoImagePlist addObjectsFromArray:[NSArray arrayWithContentsOfFile:[rootPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"noImage.plist"]]]; [writeToPlist writeToFile:nowPlist atomically:YES]; [writeToAllPlist writeToFile:[rootPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"imagesStored.plist"] atomically:YES]; [writeToNoImagePlist writeToFile:[rootPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"noImage.plist"] atomically:YES]; [releasePool release]; }

  • What's the best way to return different cells depending on position in a UITableView

    - by Robert Conn
I have a grouped UITableView that has 3 sections and a number of cells in each section that each need to be a different custom cell, with different display requirements. I currently have a large if statement in cellForRowAtIndexPath, with each branch instantiating and returning the appropriate custom cell based on interrogating the indexPath's section and row properties. e.g. if (indexPath.section == 0 && indexPath.row == 0) { // instantiate and return cell A } else if (indexPath.section == 1 && indexPath.row == 2) { // instantiate and return cell B } //etc etc What is best practice for this scenario? A large if statement does the job, but is it the best implementation?

  • Problem with accessing classes from another class.

    - by srikanth rongali
I have a classA, classB,classC. I have another class classABC; All are CCLayer inherited. I need to call all the classA, classB, classC from classABC. #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> #import "cocos2d.h" @interface classABC : CCLayer { classA *aClass; } @property(nonatomic, retain)classA *aClass; @end #import "classABC" #import "classA.h" #import "classB.h" #import "classC.h" @implementation classABC -(id)init { if( (self = [super init]) ) { ClassA *aClass = [[ClassA alloc]init]; CCScene *aClassS = [CCScene node]; CCLayer * aClassL = [aClass node]; [aClassS addChild: aClassL]; [[CCDirector sharedDirector] setAnimationInterval:60.0/60]; [[CCDirector sharedDirector] replaceScene: aClass]; } return self; } @end But I am not getting the classA displayed. How should I do it ? Thank You.

  • TableView on Tab Bar Application ? Application is crashing.

    - by Andrei
Steps to reproduce: 1. Create a Tab Bar Application called "TestApp" 2. Add new file, a UIViewController subclass with a XIB user interface called "Table" 3. Open up MainWindows.xib, click on the Second tab bar item and in Inspector change the NIB Name from "SecondView" to "Table". Save and close. 4. Open up Table.xib and drag a TableView on top of the view. Now link the dataSource and delegate outlets of the TableView to the Table.xib File's Owner. 5. Add the following code to Table.m: - (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView { NSLog(@"Returning num sections"); return 1; } - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section { NSLog(@"Returning num rows"); return 1; } - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { NSLog(@"Trying to return cell"); static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; } cell.text = @"Hello"; NSLog(@"Returning cell"); return cell; } 6.Run the application and select the Second tab bar item. If I start with a View-based application, add a TableView to it, link the outlets to the File's owner and add that piece of code it all works just fine. What am I doing wrong ? Why is the application crashing ?

  • Having trouble parsing itunes affiliate xml...

    - by MKDev
Hi, I am trying to parse an itunes affiliate xml link purely for practise, using NSXMLParser but the link will not parse. The itunes affiliate xml link is this: http://itunes.apple.com/au/rss/topsongs/limit=50/genre=20/xml?partnerId=2003&TD_PARAM=http%3A%2F%2Fclkuk.tradedoubler.com%2Fclick%3Fp%3D23708%26a%3D1904172%26url%3D. it works perfectly in safari on my mac. The normal itunes link I tried parsing: http://itunes.apple.com/%@/rss/%@/limit=50/genre=20/xml works perfectly with the NSXMLParser. Can anyone tell me why this is happening? Thanks in advanced. • Navigating between 2 ViewControllers

    - by Kobe.o4
Im using Navigation Controller for my ViewControllers,I set my importantViewController as something like this to be its RootView: UINavigationController *navControl = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController: vc]; [self presentModalViewController: navControl animated: YES]; Then, I pushView anotherView the FrontViewController like this: [self.navigationController pushViewController:vc animated:YES]; After a button is pressed in FrontViewController another view will be pushed ViewA but it is connected with another ViewController ViewB the same way as this AGAIN: [self.navigationController pushViewController:vc animated:YES]; (Which I think Im doing wrong when dismissing either of them with [self.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated:YES];) This is an illustration: My problem is, I need to navigate between View A and View B then when I dismiss either of them it will got back to FrontViewController. Like a child of a child View. Thanks.

  • Display "custom" view (various images, various text). Should I use UIWebView?

    - by aw
First: No, none of the content should be loaded from the web. All content parts are shipped with the main bundle. I have n images and mass of text (including lists). Instead of building all view parts programmatically in objective-c if was thinking of using an UIWebView and build "only" the HTML dynamically. Does anything speaks against it? How does UIWebView work with local content? Links and resources welcome. Thanks

  • Using a Data Management Singleton

    - by Dan Ray
Here's my singleton code (pretty much boilerplate): @interface DataManager : NSObject { NSMutableArray *eventList; } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSMutableArray *eventList; +(DataManager*)sharedDataManager; @end And then the .m: #import "DataManager.h" static DataManager *singletonDataManager = nil; @implementation DataManager @synthesize eventList; +(DataManager*)sharedDataManager { @synchronized(self) { if (!singletonDataManager) { singletonDataManager = [[DataManager alloc] init]; } } NSLog(@"Pulling a copy of shared manager."); return singletonDataManager; } So then in my AppDelegate, I load some stuff before launching my first view: NSMutableArray *eventList = [DataManager sharedDataManager].eventList; .... NSLog(@"Adding event %@ to eventList", event.title); [eventList addObject:event]; NSLog(@"eventList now has %d members", [eventList count]); [event release]; As you can see, I've peppered the code with NSLog love notes to myself. The output to the Log reads like: 2010-05-10 09:08:53.355 MyApp[2037:207] Adding event Woofstock Music Festival to eventList 2010-05-10 09:08:53.355 MyApp[2037:207] eventList now has 0 members 2010-05-10 09:08:53.411 MyApp[2037:207] Adding event Test Event for Staging to eventList 2010-05-10 09:08:53.411 MyApp[2037:207] eventList now has 0 members 2010-05-10 09:08:53.467 MyApp[2037:207] Adding event Montgomery Event to eventList 2010-05-10 09:08:53.467 MyApp[2037:207] eventList now has 0 members 2010-05-10 09:08:53.524 MyApp[2037:207] Adding event Alamance County Event For June to eventList 2010-05-10 09:08:53.524 MyApp[2037:207] eventList now has 0 members ... What gives? I have no errors getting to my eventList NSMutableArray. But I addObject: fails silently?

  • Xcode automatically converts the object to NSArray

    - by Farrukh Javeid
    I have been working on an app and during the development, I am facing a very strange problem. I have a NSMutableArray tempSortedArray, which is full of objects of Store types. All the objects are valid as I can see them in my GUI, the problem arises when I iterate through the array, at index 90, which can be generally anyone, the XCode converts the Store object to NSMutableArray object. Any idea, why this is happening. This is the code to check out what I am doing: NSSortDescriptor *sortDescriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"cashBack" ascending:NO]; NSArray *sortDescriptors = [NSArray arrayWithObject:sortDescriptor]; NSArray *sortedArray = [storesArray sortedArrayUsingDescriptors:sortDescriptors]; for (int i = 0; i < [tempSortedArray count]; i++) { Store *currentStore = [tempSortedArray objectAtIndex:i]; NSLog(@"store class: %@", [currentStore.class description]); if (currentStore.cashBackTypeString != (id)[NSNull null]) { //do whatever is required to do here }

  • Why do they initialize pointers this way?

    - by Rob
In almost all of the books I read and examples I go through I see pointers initialized this way. Say that I have a class variable NSString *myString that I want to initialize. I will almost always see that done this way: -(id)init { if (self = [super init]) { NSString *tempString = [[NSString alloc] init]; myString = tempString; [tempString release]; } return self; } Why can't I just do the following? -(id)init { if (self = [super init]) { myString = [[NSString alloc] init]; } return self; } I don't see why the extra tempString is ever needed in the first place, but I could be missing something here with memory management. Is the way I want to do things acceptable or will it cause some kind of leak? I have read the Memory Management Guide on developer.apple.com and unless I am just missing something, I don't see the difference.
