  • comparing rows on a mysql table

    Ok here's the deal I got one table with a bunch of client information. Each client makes up to one purchase a year which is represented by an individual row. there's a column for the year and there's a column the contains a unique identifier for each client. What I need to do is to construct a query that takes last year and this year and shows me which clients were here made a purchase last year but not make a purchase this year. I also need to build a query that shows me which clients did not make a purchase last year and the year before last but did make a purchase this year.

    I have a table MRU, that has 3 columns. (VALUE varchar(255); TYPE varchar(20); DT_ADD datetime) This is a table simply storing an entry and recording the date time it was recorded. What I wanted to do is: delete the oldest entry whenever I add a new entry that exceeds a certain number. here is my query: delete from MRU where type = 'FILENAME' ORDER BY DT_ADD limit 1; The query returns an error.     Im trying to compare a hashed password value in a mysql database with the hashed value of an inputted password from a login form. However, when I compare the two values it says they aren't equal.   • How do you manage all of the information you have learned and found? [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: How do you manage your knowledge base? What do you use for personal note taking to keep track of everything you learn? Are you always Googling or searching StackOverflow to answer the same questions? Or searching for and copying and pasting existing code? I feel like I have a poor memory, especially remembering things like syntax. Are there any knowledge management systems that would work well for a programming language or operating system? It would be great if there were a way to save everything I learn in an easy to search system. Does such a thing exist? Maybe you would be able to search by question (How to sort an array?, How to set static IP?), or by tag (sort, array, enumeration, iterator, IP). I know it would be easy to develop my own system, but I thought it would be great to learn what works for other people.

  • Need a field / flag / status number for mutliple use ?

    I want to create a field in my database which will be easy to query. I think if I give a bit of background this will make more sense. My table has listings shown on my website. I run a program which looks at the listings a decides whether to hide them from being shown on the site. I also hide listings manually for various reasons. I want to store these reasons in a field, so more than one reason could be made for hiding. So I need some form of logic to determine which reasons have been used. Can anyone offer me any guidance on what will be future-proof aka new reasons and what will be quick and easy to query upon ?

    I am trying to select the most common 100 names from a table then display the list showing the names and count. I want the user to be able to re-sort the list alphabetically rather than based on count. I thought the following code would do it. It works for the default sort by count but fails on the sort alphabetically. The line "$count = mysql_num_rows($table);" gives an error: mysql_num_rows() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given.     I was trying to install the mcrypt libraries following this tutorial (http://www.glenscott.co.uk/blog/2011/08/29/install-mcrypt-php-extension-on-mac-os-x-lion/), but something must have gone wrong and now when I load a php page on my localhost I see this: query="SELECT DISTINCT ".$field." as a,".$field2." as b FROM ".$tab." I've retrieved the previous versions of the private/etc folder and usr/lib/php folder with time machine but it didn't help. And now if I execute sudo pachectl restart it gives me this error: sudo: no valid sudoers sources found, quitting (while before it worked. PS I'm on a mac with Mountain Lion

    I'm fairly new to SQL and i had to do some calculations using a table.Imagine we have a table with fields : ID - Name - Val1 - Val2 ; Lets say i want to add up 2 values and add it to my query result.I can do that easily with a sub query such as: select val1+val2 as valtotal,* from my table. Now if i want to do some more process on valtotal, i use a derived table such as; select valtotal*3 as ValMoreCalculated,* from (select val1+val2 as valtotal,* from my table) AS A A bit more code maybe?? select ValMoreCalculated/valtotal as ValEvenMoreCalc ,* from (select valtotal*3 as ValMoreCalculated,* from (select val1+val2 as valtotal,* from my table) AS A)AS B So if i want to do more calculations with the ValMoreCalculated do i have to go through another derived table? Name it as B for example? Is there an easier way to achieve this in SQL? PS:the title is a bit off i know,but couldn't figure out what to name it :P

    Is it possible to exclude a column from a select * from table statement with SQL Server? I have a need for this and this is my only option other than parsing a raw SQL string to get out the required field names (I really don't want to do that). Just to be bold. When the query is made I do not have access to the list of fields needed from the table but I do know which field I do not need. This is part of a complex multi-part query. Surely there must be some way even if it's "hackish" such as using table variables or views

  • Is there a way to update a database when installing/upgrading an app?

    I have a main application, and a bunch of sub-applications (they are separate apps, which do not appear on the android home dashboard). I was planning on having a SQLite DB which the main app maintains, and get a list of available sub-apps from. Is there a way to update this main database as the user installs the sub-apps? Two alternative I was thinking of include: User installs the sub-apps via the main app, which would then update the DB. Rather than use the DB to find all installed sub-apps, have each sub-app declare a category, and use intents to query for all applications which match that query (is this even possible? if so, advice is welcomed).     Possible Duplicate: how to really master a programming language Let say about Java(just a sample, you can talk about C#, PHP, C++ ... it's just similar) and 10 (ten) levels, 1 is newbie and 10 is master. How can you identify someone at which level based on his knowledge? I do not tend to compare languages, I do tend to know what indicate a master or a newbie in a language and its (language's) based technology. Yeah, I know there aren't on earth a language stand alone, it always come with a technology with it. Let say in Java, you can memorize all of its keyword and syntax in just few days, but to know it (I mean do something with it effectively), you must read the Oracle (Sun) javadoc many many times (I'm not mention the 3rd party product yet).

  • Setting an empty default value for a char-column in MySQL?

    Hi In phpMyAdmin I have a char(32) column that has no default value(ie. Default: None). When I try to insert data through a SQL query, it throws out an error saying that the column "doesn't have a default value". I need it to be empty, so instead I've just set it's default value as "As defined: " and then nothing in the value field. Is this a bad idea? And is it any better than simply throwing in an empty value for the column in the SQL query? Thanks for your time.

    I have my domain say "example.com" (java, GlassFish Web Server) Now I have 3 application.. say A,B,C. Now what I want is, if user hit a.example.com OR example.com/X then A application should get invoked. similarly for B and C. b.example.com or example.com/B, c.example.com or example.com/C. like mail.google.com news.google.com. How to configure this? I couldn't query it in Google as I didn't know how to query for this exactly. So posted here. Thankx guyz in advance.

  • Why is Hibernate not loading a column?

    I've got an entity with a few properties that gets used a lot in my Hibernate/GWT app. For the most part, everything works fine, but Hibernate refuses to load one of the properties. It doesn't appear in the query, despite being annotated correctly in the entity. The relevant portion of the entity: @Column(name="HasSubSlots") @Type(type="yes_no") public boolean hasSubSlotSupport() { return hasSubSlotSupport; } And the generated SQL query: Hibernate: /* load entities.DeviceModel */ select devicemode0_.DevModel as DevModel1_0_, devicemode0_.InvModelName as InvModel2_1_0_ from DeviceModels devicemode0_ where devicemode0_.DevModel=? Despite the fact that I refer to that property, it's never loaded, lazily or not, and the getter always returns false. Any ideas on how I can dig deeper into this, or what might be wrong?

    Given table USER (name, city, age), what's the best way to get the user details of oldest user per city? I have seen the following example SQL used in Oracle which I think it works select name, city, age from USER, (select city as maxCity, max(age) as maxAge from USER group by city) where city=maxCity and age=maxAge So in essence: use a nested query to select the grouping key and aggregate for it, then use it as another table in the main query and join with the grouping key and the aggregate value for each key. Is this the standard SQL way of doing it? Is it any quicker than using a temporary table, or is in fact using a temporary table interanlly anyway?

  • C# WPF to Embedded programming transition

    I've been learning C# .NET Framework for around 4-6 months (still starting) using some books, and have currently made my way up to Collections and Generics. I'll probably spend the next two months covering the rest up to LINQ and/or Garbage Collections. The thing is, I started to get interested in embedded systems and found out that you can use C# to code it through .NET MF, which mean I wouldn't have to learn C or C++. So, I would like to know if the knowledge I'll have by that time (2 months) will be enough to start working on Embedded (using C# .NET Micro Framework and Netduino) or I should probably see more about plain C# like Multithreading, async and other advanced features ? I want use embedded just as a hobby, at least by now, as I'll still have a long way through university. Although, I'll probably pick it as a career then. Thanks in advance!

  • "Remember" last three MySql queries; Cookie, passed variable or other method?

    I have a classified website, with pretty sophisticated searching, and I am about to implement a function where the last three queries is displayed for the user, so that the user can go back easier through the queries. This because for each query the user has to provide a lot of input. I have four questions for you: I wonder, how can I save the actual query (SELECT * FROM etc etc)...? Do I need to add some form of encryption to be on the safe side? How will this affect performance? (I don't like the fact that cookies slow websites down) Anything else to think about?
