• “OnClick” action to asp.net dropdownlist item.

  My situation is a little strange I guess, suggestion of engineering is acceptable. I have a DropDownList, on my "user" creation, called "city". When I'm creating the user I can create other city, but for this I have a button which redirect to other page. So, ok. I've created the new City and now I click on my DropDownList of cities and guess what?! The field is not reloaded. My first idea is every that I click on DropDownList, reload the data, but I can't find some OnClick action for Asp.Net DropDownList. This is my question, some idea? Thanks in advance.

  If I need to offer the ability to create, view and print reports from a .NET app, I see that there are 2 options: use a reporting component such as Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportViewer or Crystal Reports which saves a .rpt or similar template file that can be modified as required without having to re-compile the app use System.Drawing.Printing for reporting and store report template data in a database, which keeps things simpler and avoids problems with bulky third party reporting components If I want to be able to modify a report template (which would include layout and data fields) without having to re-compile the app, would the first option above achieve this? If I wanted to be able to modify the template without re-compiling the app, how could this be achieved with the second option? How could you store data representing the templates in a database such that it could be modified without having to re-compile the app?

I would like to know the best way to combine all of my Javascript files into one file to reduce the number of HTTP requests to the server. I have seen many articles on this subject but I'm not sure which one I should look at first (many of them are over a year old). Here are the things I would like to do: Combine my Javascript and css files Safely compress my Javascript files when I publish, but keep them uncompressed while I am debugging Cache my Css and Javascript files but allow them to refreshed with a hard refresh when they are updated without having to rename them.

  I have a .NET project that uses Crystal Reports. The application is distributed using ClickOnce. Things work great if the user has Crystal installed on their computer. However, not all of the end users have Crystal Reports installed on their computers. These users are receiving the following error... "Unable to install or run the application. The application requires that assembly CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.XmlSerialize Version 10.5.3700.0 be installed in the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) first." Is there a way to force ClickOnce installs to ensure that a prerequisite is installed?

So because the page's controls' events run between the page's load and prerender events, is it true that whatever the begin task handler (handler for BeginAsync below) produces, it can't be used in the controls' events? So for example, if the handler gets data from a database, the data can't be used in any of the controls' postback events? Would you bind data to a data control after prerender? • Where are the readonly/const in .NET?

  In C++ you'll see void func(const T& t) everywhere. However, i havent seen anything similar in .NET. Why? I have notice a nice amount of parameters using struct. But i see no functions with readonly/const. In fact now that i tried it i couldnt use those keywords to make a function that promises to not modify a list being passed in. Is there no way to promise the caller that this function will never modify the contents of list? Is there no way to say to call code and say this list should never be modified? (I know i can clone the list or look at documentation but i like compile errors sometime)

Can someone please explain to me why am I wrong? I mean, does the meaning of the write.lock file is to protect creation of two IndexWriters in the same process only? that doesnt seems the right answer to me...

Update Click the button the first time, it fails. Click the button again, it works. The account being impersonated is a domain account.

I have the foundations of the OOP in .net, but what I don't know is how can I design this assignment to be object-oriented. I don't know how to start it.   Hi Guys, Relatively new to ASP.NET MVC and little confused about how to do routing. My problem basically relates to "logged in" and "logged out routes" and having both as "/". i.e. I have home/index for logged out user which appears as "/" but this has got me confused as to how I can have home/home for logged in user and still have "/". I keep getting 127.0.0.1/home/home I could modify like 127.0.0.1/home - but I want it like "/". My confusion relates to the fact that the "/" [127.0.0.1/] is bound in the routes collection to home/index. Does anyone know how I can modify the routes dictionary (which will be binded ONCE at the start) so that the "/" can be shared for logged and non-logged users ? Thanks?

  We use the ASP.NET profile subsystem to associate key-value pairs of information with users. I am implementing functionality for the deletion of users. I have been using the ProfileManager.DeleteProfile(string userName) method, but I have noticed that this leaves a row in the aspnet_Users table in the aspnetdb database we use to store the profile information. Clearly, I could manipulate the database directly, but I am reluctant to do so. What is the best way to ensure all information assocaited with a user is deleted from the aspnetdb? PS: there is a tantalising Membership.DeleteUser(string userName, bool deleteEverything) method, but this returns a database connection error. A web.config issue?

  I am building an ASP.NET MVC application that is AJAX-driven. For some reason I need to add some DOM elements on the fly when clicking a submit button. This is accomplished with jQuery.append(). One element inserted is a textarea, whose the data must be parse before submitting to ensure that no cross-site scripting can be done. We know that the Html.Encode() works great but must be declared outside a script tag. All I have done with jQuery is embedded within a script tag. 1) Is there a way to take advantage of the Html.Encode() within a script tag? 2) How can I accomplish this with jQuery? At worst I can use HttpUtility.HtmlEncode(), which is called on the server-side. Thanks for your help. Roland

  Hello, I am working on a large web application which I have recently shelved tons of .aspx pages from the project. To avoid page not found error, I added these entities in the xml which came around 300+ in count. I wrote a http module that checks the request url in the xml entities and if they are found, my module is going to redirect the request to respective new pages. Everything works great, but my collection is getting iterated for all the requests, I mean for each and every .jpg, .css, .js, .ico, .pdf etc. Is there any object or property in .net that can tell the type of request that user requested for like HttpContext.request.type. So that I can avoid checking the request for all unwanted file types.

  I have a development website running on my local machine, I can access it locally by typing the address http://mycomputer.mynetwork.local/myapp/default.aspx however when anybody else tries to browse to it they get an error: Server Error in '/' Application. The resource cannot be found. Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly. I'm using IIS7, ASP.NET 3.5 and the application is pre-compiled. Any hints?

  I have a asp.net application which generates reports.When the user clicks on generate report, the report is generated in the background and link to that report is written on the UI. There is no problem with the application as many of them are able to generate the reports successfully. However few users are facing issue is generating reports.The issue is, "When they click on generate report button, the report is being generated but before getting the link to the report,users are getting "page cannot be displayed" page" "And for few of them it occurs only in IE and not in mozila" Please help me in resolving this issue. • SharePoint 2010 Development on Virtual Machine - Windows 7 or Server 2008?

  I recently switched to a MacBook Pro for my development machine (for many reasons). I want to setup a Virtual Machine for ASP.NET, IIS, and Visual Studio 2010 development. I also have need to do some development work with SharePoint 2010. What I am wondering is if I should use Windows 7 (64 bit) or Windows Server 2008 (64 bit) as the OS for my development virtual machine. I don't really need most of the services running in Server 2008 so I felt that Windows 7 would probably run faster in the VM environment however I am fairly new to SharePoint 2010 so I am not sure if Windows 7 (64 bit) can be used as a development environment for it.   I have a threadsafe object that is expensive to create and needs to be available through my application (a Lucene.Net IndexReader). The object can become invalid, at which point I need to recreate it (IndexReader.IsCurrent is false, need a new instance using IndexReader.Reopen). I'd like to able to use an IoC container (StructureMap) to manage the creation of the object, but I can't work out if this scenario is possible. It feels like some kind of "conditional singleton" lifecycle. Does StructureMap provide such a feature? Any alternative suggestions?

  Hello, I've asked this before but I was hoping for another answer and perhaps some code samples because I've been having a difficult time with this. I have an asp.net page. The user hits the "Run" button and I have code IN AN ASSEMBLY, not in the APP_CODE folder that is called and runs a long process that moves product info from a file into the database. While the user waits, I would like them to see status updates like what product the import process in on and status info. I'm assuming I'd break off into another thread and use Ajax but I have no idea how to do this. Some code samples would be very helpful, thanks.

• Store previous search criteria using ASP.NET

  I have created a web application which returns a list of products. On this page it allows users to search for a range of different search criteria. Once a user searches and the results are returned to the table on the page a user can then edit a product. However upon returning to the product listing page the page just reloads, and shows all products again. I would like to know what the best way would be to keep the search results, and upon returning to the search page it keeps the previous criteria. I have found a few posts on stack exchange - Best way to store previous search criteria in ASP.NET - is probaly one of the better ones. Does any one know how i could go about keeping the search criteria, so when a user returns to the search page, the previous search criteria and results stay the same. Many thanks.

• asp.net and Visual studio root directory question

  I am seeing something very odd and thought I would ask the Stackoverflow community if they knew the answer. I have an asp.net project that runs fine in one environment, but couldn't figure out what happened to the styles in another environment. In the first environment (Windows 2008 Server), the following link worked fine: <link href="/Styles/09/style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> but in the other environment (it's a Windows 7), I had to change it to work: <link href="../Styles/09/style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> Notice that the directories seemed to shift ahead one directory in the Win7, what's going on? It's like the "running" directory seems now be the \bin directory instead of the home! Which environment is configured correctly? How do I determine execution directory level? My concern going forward is pushing to a prod environment and guessing which configuration is correct. Any insight would be appreciated!

  I want to draw and manipulate logic flow (as opposed to analog) circuit diagrams and I'm trying not to reinvent the wheel. Problems like positioning, line drawing, line crossing and connecting, path finding, rubberband lines, and drag & drop are also identical in flow charts, UML diagrams, or class diagrams so I started by viewing related topics via Google and Stack Overflow. However, the following requirements seemed to keep me from finding anything that quite fit: assuming a chip has an image with input and output stubs, the connecting lines would connect to the chip only in the exact spots of the I/O stubs the color of connecting lines are able to be set as per a chip's output Is there an existing .NET 2d graphics library that would be suitable for drawing circuit diagrams?
