  • Exclude IPs from FQDN Resolution

    Is there a way to EXCLUDE IPs on an interface from FQDN resulution? Here's my use case; I have a domain joined Windows Server 2008 R2 machine that hosts multiple Web sites. We ahve DNS A records for the various sites that resolve to different IP addresses. I've added those IPs to the single NIC in the machine and the sites work just fine. The problem is that the FQDN of the machine now resolves any of the IPs on the machine. I only want the primary IP associated with the FQDN on the internal DNS servers. Is there ANY way to accomplish this? jon

  • Migrating Roaming Profiles from one drive to another

    As the title suggests, how can I migrate roaming profiles located in one drive (starting to fill up already) to another? Current share is like this "SVR1\Shares\UserProfiles\%username%\ But of course, this is located in C:/Shares/UserProfiles/%username%/ What do I need to do? Do I simply copy/paste into the bigger(RAID1) drive and then repoint all the profile paths (using AD Users&Computers profile properties)? What if I can point this to a different file server all together? Best practices? tips? anything you guys can suggest. Thanks!

  • Hardware issue: UI freezes and hard drive light goes solid several times per hour

    I have a workstation that has been acting up for the last few weeks. It currently has Windows Server 2008 R2 installed on it, and 2 HDD mirrored. A few times per hour the screen will freeze up, applications will say "not responding", sometimes the screen will turn a lighter shaded color--at the same time the HDD light is on solid. This lasts anywhere from 10 to about 50 seconds. Could this be something with one of the drives or the mechanism keeping the mirror in place? Any other ideas?

  • Is that possible to route all mails sent to a mailbox to another server's mailbox

    I have a Linux server that has local mail service. There are few user accounts on this server. User may send the mail to each other but that only restrict to LAN environment only. For example, I may # mail user1 to send mail to user1. User are not able to send mail to public. Some service like hylafax using this local mail service to send notification of fax status. I don't want to manage and maintain local mail service anymore. I have subscribed a package from ISP to host a public domain of my own. I wish to have my hylafax service to able to send the notification mails to public mail server, is that possible to do it? It is great if all mails that send to local mail server may forward to public mail server. That makes the local mail service serve mail forward only.

  • Computer disappeared from Workgroup

    I've a LAN that has 8 computers running Windows XP and only one (Computer A) running Windows Server 2003. When computer A boots, it shows up in all computers' Workgroups, but after 15-30 minutes, it disappears from the Workgroup in all computers, including itself. However, files can still be transferred from and to A via full path shortcuts and network drive maps still work. I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem or not, but if that particular computer is turned on while the LAN cable is plugged in, it doesn't connect to the network, but it connects if the cable is plugged in after the computer is run. Any tips why this is happening? Thanks.

  • PHP 5.2.11: Unable to load dynamic library complaints

    I installed PHP 5.2.11 and upon enabling the php_mssql.dll module (and the obligatory restart of the services) started receiving warnings about not being able to load the dynamic library. The operating environment is IIS ISAPI under Windows 2003 R2. Here is the list of things that were checked File Exists in \PHP\ext directory and has the same timestamp as the other distribution delivered libraries. Permissions are correct to the file. Other extensions are enabled and functioning with identical permissions. ntwdblib.dll has been copied from a SQL Server 2005 installation (per php.net's requirements for the module) Other modules before and after the php_mssql entry are working. I've also stripped down and remove all non-essential references with detectable improvements. I turned up logging and enabled all the error logs in the php.ini, nothing is generated by the logs. Searching Google has turned up a slew of closed/unsolved bug reports on php.net and some miscellaneous near-matches, none of which have really addressed the problem or lead to any inspirations.

  • NET VIEW occasionally does not show all computers

    I am having an issue on my workstation, where periodically the NET VIEW command does not seem to work. Most times, NET VIEW will return a list of all the machines connected to our domain. Occasionally, it will only list 4 or 5 (instead of the usual 200+). The only way I've found to remedy it is by rebooting my machine. I am running Windows XP Pro, the Domain Controller is running Server 2003. What could be causing this, and how can I remedy it? Thanks!

  • Can a Shadow Copy of SQL 2000 databases files be used as a restore?

    Howdy, I have a SQL 2000 instance (version 8.00.760) that is on a drive that gets regular shadow copies. Can a shadow copy be used to restore the database? It seems possible to stop the SQL service, restore the Data folder from the shadow copy (includes msdb, master, model, temp, and the user databases, then restart the service. Would the files be in a crash consistent case in the worst case? If so, when restarting the service wouldn't it recover as if the power were pulled from the server? Thank you, Keith

I am using SQL management studio (sql server 2008) to run queries and some of the fields that come back are varchar(max) for example and it has a lot of information - Is there a zoom feature to open the window and show me the contents with vertical and horizontal scrollbars? I remember there was, i thought it was F2 but i must have been mistaken as it doesn't work Now i have to scroll horizontal on the field and its really difficult to see everything Also some of the fields contain new line codes etc so it would be great if the zoom feature would display the info using the new line codes etc Any body know how to do this?

  • SBS 2003 crashes often due to limited memory

    I have a Windows SBS 2003 Std that regularly crashes, in about every 20th day. The only thing I can see in the logs is that used memory increases with about 30MB/day. The process that uses more and more memory is sqlservr. We don't have much installed on the server; a Point-Of-Sale-system that uses Pervasive SQL as database and an Accounting application. We just have 2GB of RAM and I could upgrade to 4GB but I think that this just delay the problem. Is there any solution to this problem? Could I limit sqlservr to some memory?

    I am trying to set up a chrooted DNS name server in a local LAN like this everyone connected in the LAN can have access to the mass virtual hosts defined for a development ambience without having to edit manually their local /etc/hosts one by one. The mass virtual host is named example.user.dev (VirtualDocumentRoot /home/user/example ) and example.test (DocumentRoot /var/www/example). I set up everything and the /var/log/syslog doesn't show any error, but when checking the DNS with: host -v example.test Doesn't find the host.   • Changing an MSSQL clustered index field from containing "random" GUIDs to sequential GUIDs - how wil

    We have an MSSQL database in which all the primary keys are GUIDs (uniqueidentifiers). The GUIDs are produced on the client (in C#), and we are considering changing the client to generate sequential (comb) GUIDs instead of just using Guid.NewGuid(), to improve db performance. If we do this, how will this affect installations that already have data with "random" GUIDs as clustered PKs? Can anything be done (short of changing all the PK values) to rebuild the indexes to avoid further fragmentation and bad insert performance? Please give explicit and detailed answers if you can; I am a C# developer at heart and not all too familiar with all the intricacies of SQL Server. Thanks!

  • How can I delete virtual networks from command line?

    I have Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 (without GUI) running at my colo for a week. I was connected via RDP and could use the menu interface and command line. I figured out how to connect Hyper-V Manager from my Win7 laptop (THANK YOU HVREMOTE!), and created and installed my VM. I created a virtual network that didn't work (no connectivity from my VM) so I created another using different settings, and now have lost access to the Hyper-V host. No ping, no RDP. Since I don't have console access, I cannot troubleshoot. I believe if I deleted the Virtual Networks I'd regain access, but I need a command line instruction for this, that the staff onsite could enter to accomplish this. I find no help anywhere obvious (MSDN, etc), the keywords are too general. Can anyone refer me to simple steps how to do this over command line or with the menu based interface on the console?

In document root /var/www/html/ I have http://serverA.com, and I create a virtual host in folder /var/www/html/serverB for http://serverB.com. They work great for both, but the problem is I can access serverB files with the URL http://serverA.com/serverB/, which I don't want to happen. How do I prevent that?

  • Troubleshooting High Load on Plesk LAMP Dedicated Server

    I have 2 nearly identical dedicated servers with the same provider. They also run a nearly identical software stack: RedHat 5 64-bit, Plesk, PHP, Apache, & MySQL. We use them for hosting custom sites we build. The problem is, while our 1st server has a load average (in top) of around 0.3, the 2nd server consistently has a load average of around 4.0 or higher. Basic functions in Plesk are delayed and there is a bit of latency when executing shell commands. Anyone have ideas why it would be so high? And why it would differ from our other server so much?   • The Red Gate Guide to SQL Server Team based Development Free e-book

    After about 6 months of work, the new book I've coauthored with Grant Fritchey (Blog|Twitter), Phil Factor (Blog|Twitter) and Alex Kuznetsov (Blog|Twitter) is out. They're all smart folks I talk to online and this book is packed with good ideas backed by years of experience. The book contains a good deal of information about things you need to think of when doing any kind of multi person database development. Although it's meant for SQL Server, the principles can be applied to any database platform out there. In the book you will find information on: writing readable code, documenting code, source control and change management, deploying code between environments, unit testing, reusing code, searching and refactoring your code base. I've written chapter 5 about Database testing and chapter 11 about SQL Refactoring. In the database testing chapter (chapter 5) I cover why you should test your database, why it is a good idea to have a database access interface composed of stored procedures, views and user defined functions, what and how to test. I talk about how there are many testing methods like black and white box testing, unit and integration testing, error and stress testing and why and how you should do all those. Sometimes you have to convince management to go for testing in the development lifecycle so I give some pointers and tips how to do that. Testing databases is a bit different from testing object oriented code in a way that to have independent unit tests you need to rollback your code after each test. The chapter shows you ways to do this and also how to avoid it. At the end I show how to test various database objects and how to test access to them. In the SQL Refactoring chapter (chapter 11) I cover why refactor and where to even begin refactoring. I also who you a way to achieve a set based mindset to solve SQL problems which is crucial to good SQL set based programming and a few commonly seen problems to refactor. These problems include: using functions on columns in the where clause, SELECT * problems, long stored procedure with many input parameters, one subquery per condition in the select statement, cursors are good for anything problem, using too large data types everywhere and using your data in code for business logic anti-pattern.   • Install SSL certificate for RDP on Windows 2003?

    I need to configure SSL for RDP, and am following the instructions described here: http://thelazyadmin.com/blogs/thelazyadmin/archive/2007/01/26/Configure-RDP-over-SSL-with-SelfSSL.aspx My client's server already has a SSL certificate (.cer file), and I attempted to import it so that Terminal Services would recognize it. The importing instructions I followed are: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816794#3. Unfortunately, when I click "Edit" from the "RDP-tcp Properties" dialog (for a Terminal Services certificate), no certificate appears. How can I get the certificate to appear here? Thanks!
