• failed to enable x11 forwarding

  I am trying to enable X11 forwarding on my server which is running on FreeBSD 7.1. I have a putty installed in my windows in which i have enabled X11 forwarding by checking on Enable X11 forwarding and specifying following parameter X display location localhost:0 after that i run putty and checked whether X11 is enabled or not by typing following command echo "$DISPLAY" or echo $DISPLAY but i am getting following error DISPLAY: Undefined variable. Even i have installed XManager but in that also i am getting following error The X11 forwarding request was rejected ! To solve this problem, please turn on the X11 forwarding features of the remote SSH server can anyone suggest me how to get rid off this ?

  I have been trying to Hack a WPA2 Wifi and so far I am stuck with it. Problem is that it keeps trying same pin over and over again.   Running RSH commands on a Windows box against a Linux box works only for the administrator user. Is there a file somewhere that has a list of users that can run commands remotely? More Info The server configuration is automated by VMware's product... There's no /etc/hosts.equiv file setup but there is a /root/.rhosts file with an entry of [IP ADDRESS] +. The SUA client C:\Windows\SUA\bin\rsh can login when run as the local administrator account but no other user can login. The error is: rcmd: unknown user: [username]. The command I'm trying to run is: rsh -l root [IP ADDRESS] ls.

As far as I understand does pmvarrun tells the system how many active session (e.g. logins) a user has on the system. • How to I set up nfs using the Drobo Unfsd app?

  How do I set up my nfs on my Drobo FS so that I can connect to it from my Mac using the NFS protocol? I have downloaded and installed Unfsd program from the DroboApps page. My exports file looks like this: /mnt/DroboFS/Shares 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0(rw,no_root_squash) I try to connect to the share by hitting Ctrl+K in Finder and the using nfs://drobo-fs.local/Shares as server address. But when I click Connect all that happens is that the Connect to Server window flashes shortly, and well, that's all. I have tried removing the /Shares part, using /Public and casing drobo-fs.local as Drobo-FS.local, but it's all with the same result. I have also tried using /mnt/DroboFS/Shares *(rw,no_root_squash) in the exports file. I restart the service using the command ./service.sh restart.

• Why does my PowerBook display “Fixing recursive fault but reboot is needed!” and stop booting?

  I have an old PowerBook G4 that worked (more or less) fine with a previous installation of Ubuntu Desktop 12.04. A few days ago I decided to install Ubuntu Server instead, and got a copy of Ubuntu Server 12.10. The installation seemed to complete successfully, but now, whenever I try to boot the system, it simply halts at some point after I unlock the hard disk. There is a lot of text on the screen (which is normal for me during a boot, except now it's mostly errors and debug information), the last of which is this: [ 26.338228] Fixing recursive fault but reboot is needed! Pressing control command power to force a reboot yields exactly the same results. A search for the error message turned up many temporary solutions involving kernel parameters, but none of them have worked for me. I don't think I can remove the default set of parameters (which I think is quiet splash), but I can pass additional parameters on boot. I've tried booting on AC and battery power, as well as using these combinations of kernel parameters while on battery power: acpi=enable pci=noacpi pci=assign-busse acpi=ht acpi=off nomodeset nomodeset acpi=off Why am I getting this error and how can I fix it?

• OpenVPN won't start on ubuntu - PID not found

  I am running ubuntu version 12.04 LTS and I have installed OpenVPN on it. After a while of troubleshooting why my client won't connect (I have generated keys and confligured the client), I ran 'service openvpn status' from the command line and received the following error: could not access PID file for VPN 'server' I have rebooted, started and restarted the service, but each time I check the status, I receive the PID error. I'm pretty sure that I can't connect because the service isn't running. Where can I begin troubleshooting this? I don't know what to look for. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  I followed the instructions at http://devstack.org/guides/single-machine.html to install OpenStack. I first installed Ubuntu on my Windows 7 PC using the officially supported Windows installer for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. And after that I followed the instructions at above page to install OpenStack. As per instructions, I should be able to access the dashboard aka Horizon, at http://192.168.1.4/ (thats the IP of the PC on which I installed Ubuntu-OpenStack). However I am getting a 500 error web page when I open that. How do I resolve this error? I want to set up a dev environment for OpenStack. • Thunderbird compact is taking forever

  One day I came in to work and found that our development server - a Ubuntu box had a full hard disk. I did a bit of investigation using the du command and it seems like mozilla thunderbird is the major culprit. One of the mailboxes used to get a lot of spam so I guess this accounts for the 667GB. I opened up Thunderbird to see how much space the inbox actually takes up and it turns out to be approximately 500MB - over 1000 times less than the stuff that has not been compacted over the years. So i right clicked on the inbox directory in the tree on the left of Thunderbird and selected 'compact'. I left it for about 12hours but even after that it still said 'compacting folder' on the status bar. I don't use Thunderbird on this PC - it belonged to a colleague who has left the company, however I do occasionally need to look through the inbox for references to the project I am working on, so deleting all traces of Thunderbird is not an option. My question is - is there any way I can monitor the progress of Thunderbird's compacting function? I would really like to know how long it is going to take. Also is there any way I can speed up the compacting process?

• How to install mod_ssl for Apache

  Ok So I installed Apache httpd a while ago and have recently come back to it to try setup SSL and get it serving several different tomcat servers. At the moment I have two completely separate tomcat instances serving up to slightly different versions (one for dev and one for demo say) my web app to two different ports; mydomain.com:8081 and mydomain.com:8082 I've successfully (back in Jan) used mod_jk to get httpd to serve those same tomcat instances to http://www.mydomain.com:8090/dev and http://www.mydomain.com:8090/demo (8090 cos I've got another app running on 8080 via Jetty at this stage) using the following code in httpd.conf; LoadModule jk_module modules/mod_jk.so JkWorkersFile conf/workers.properties JkLogFile logs/mod_jk.log JkLogLevel debug <VirtualHost *:8090> JkMount /devd* tomcatDev JkMount /demo* tomcatDemo </VirtualHost> What I'm not trying to do is enable SSL I've added the following to httpd.conf Listen 443 <VirtualHost _default_:443> JkMount /dev* tomcatDev JkMount /demo* tomcatDemo SSLEngine on SSLCertificateFile "/opt/httpd/conf/localhost.crt" SSLCertificateKeyFile "/opt/httpd/conf/keystore.key" </VirtualHost> But when I try to restart Apache with "apachectl restart" (yes after shutting down that other app I mentioned so it doesn't toy with https connections) I continuously get the error; "Invalid command 'SSLEngine', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration. httpd not running, trying to start" I've looked in the httpd/modules dir and indeed there is no mod_ssl, only mod_jk.so and httpd.exp. I've tried using yum to install mod_ssl, it says its already installed. Indeed I can locate mod_ssl.so in /usr/lib/httpd/modules but this is NOT the path to where I've installed httpd which is /opt/httpd and in fact /usr/lib/httpd contains nothing but the modules dir. Can anyone tell me how to install mod_ssl properly for my installed location of httpd so I can get past this error:

  Since upgrading to 12.10 (Xubuntu), Simple Scan is not working anymore. I got scanning working with Xsane, but only if Simple Scan has not run before. Otherwise I have to restart the printer/scanner (HP OfficeJet J5783). • Opensuse 11.1 KDE4 Dropbox autostart issue

  I am using KDE4 with the lastest version of opensuse, and I want to autostart everytime I turn on my computer. I followed this website: http://antrix.net/journal/techtalk/dropbox%5Fkde.html I got dropbox to work and everything is fine. I created a symlink to the dropboxd file to my ~/.kde4/AUtostart, but does not work. The command line I used to create the symlink is: ln -s ~/.dropbox-dist/dropdoxd ~/.kde4/Autostart/ I've check the symlink itself to see where it "pointed to" in it's properties, and it was the right file. The drobox-dist folder is in my /home/"username", and the dropboxd does work. I've tried using "sudo ln -s ~/.dropbox-dist/dropdoxd ~/.kde4/Autostart/" but no symlink was created. I've checked other blogs and they all say the same things to make dropbox to autostart up, yet it is not working. Does anyone know what's wrong?

  I need my web app to restart the dansguardian service (on CentOS) so it needs to run '/sbin/service dansguardian restart' I have a shellscript in /home/topological called apacherestart.sh which does the following: #!/bin/sh id=`id` /sbin/service dansguardian restart r=$? return $r This runs ok (logger statement in script for testing output to syslog, so I know it's running) To make it run, I put this in /etc/sudoers: User_Alias APACHE=www # Cmnd alias specification Cmnd_Alias HTTPRESTART=/home/topological/apacherestart.sh,/sbin/e-smith/db,/etc/rc7.d/S91dansguardian # Defaults specification # User privilege specification root ALL=(ALL) ALL APACHE ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: HTTPRESTART So far so good. But the service does not restart. To test this I created a user david, and fudged the uid/gid in /etc/passwd to be the same as www: www:x:102:102:e-smith web server:/home/e-smith:/bin/false david:x:102:102:David:/home/e-smith/files/users/david:/bin/bash then logged in as david and tried to run the apacherestart.sh. The problem I get is: /etc/rc7.d/S91dansguardian: line 51: /sbin/e-smith/db: Permission denied even though S91dansguardian and db are in the sudoers command list. Any ideas?

On my machine with X running I can start opemoffice in headless mode via soffice -accept="socket,port=8100;urp;" -headless This doesn't seem to work on a server with X not running. $ soffice -accept="socket,port=8100;urp;" -headless /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice.bin X11 error: Can't open display: Set DISPLAY environment variable, use -display option or check permissions of your X-Server (See "man X" resp. "man xhost" for details) $ The error doesnt seem to make sense as well, as the point of specifying -headless was so that I do not need X, while this command seems to look for X.

• getting bash to load my PATH over SSH

  This problem comes up with me trying to make svnserve (Subversion server) available on a server through SSH. I compiled SVN and installed it in $HOME/bin. Local access to it (not through SSH) works fine. Connections to svn+ssh fail due to: bash: svnserve: command not found Debugging this, I've found that: ssh user@server "which svnserve" says: which: no svnserve in (/usr/bin:/bin) This is strange, because I've updated the path to $HOME/bin in my .bashrc, and also added it in ~/.ssh/environment. However, it seems like the SSH doesn't read it. Although when I run: ssh user@server "echo $PATH" It does print my updated path! What's going on here? How can I make SSH find my svnserve?   I have mailserver configure using dovecot+postfix+mysql and it was runnig fine in the server(Ubuntu Server). But during last week it stopped working correctly. It doesn't send email. When I try to telnet localhost smtp I'm connecting successfully but when I do mail from:<[email protected]> and hit Enter it hangs on, nothing happen. Having reviewed /var/log/mail.log file I've found out that probably(99%) the problem is on postfix when it is trying to connect to MySQL server.   When I run Java from a Windows .cmd file (Vista 32-bit here), the Java command causes the batch file to stop executing additional commands. For example, this is a simple test.cmd file: java java This should cause Java to print its help message twice. However when I run it in cmd.exe, I get this: C:\>test C:\>java Usage: java [-options] class [args...] (to execute a class) or java [-options] -jar jarfile [args...] (to execute a jar file) where options include: -client to select the "client" VM -server to select the "server" VM ... C:\> The batch file simply exits when Java exits. What's going on here?
