  Hi, I'm looking for some help on deciding a useful folder stucture strategy for reporting service projects in TFS. Does any one have some suggestions on which way I should stucture TFS? • Laptop won't boot with both memory slots used

  I'm currently trying to upgrade my old Sony Vaio VGN-SZ1HP/B to 2GB of RAM. It already had 1GB of Crucial RAM in one of its slots, and one empty. I checked on Crucial.com and it confirms that each bank can hold 1GB of PC2-5300. The 1GB stick already installed was this, but Crucial's page recommended this... The two are identical from what I can make out, so I just ordered another one of the former. Unfortunately the machine refuses to even POST with both sticks installed. If I remove the old RAM from Slot 1 and replace it with the new RAM it runs fine. If I leave Slot 1 empty and put RAM (either stick) in Slot 2, it won't POST. Basically it seems that Slot 2 just isn't working properly. Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this problem? Or maybe have any experience with this sort of thing with Sony Vaios? • Windows 7 64-bit installation from alternative media (no DVD/USB Flash drive)

  Greetings I currently have Windows 7 x86 installed on my computer. I want to install Windows 7 x64 on a different partition on my computer. However there is a little issue, I cannot run the x64 install from Windows 7 x86 which I currently have. I was planning to Install Windows 7 x64 on another partition to then boot up from that partition to install it on the partition I actually want my OS on. Once that is complete I could just format the partition from the Windows 7 x64 that I didn't need anymore. But the installer will not run from the x86 version of Windows 7 even though I do not want to upgrade that Windows directly. The reason I'm doing this in such a weird way is that my optical drive is broken and I'm really not into buying a new one since I would use it like once every year or so. I also don't have a USB Flash Drive which is big enough to hold the installation files. As far as I'm aware I cannot use an external hard drive such as this one, which I do have. Are there any alternatives in which I can install Windows 7 x64 or am I forced into buying a USB Flash Drive or new optical drive? Thank you in advance for your replies. Edit: This picture shows my current partitions on my laptop. I want to get Windows 7 x64 on the C partition but have to install it first on the F partition to then boot up the F partition windows to format C and install x64 on that one. My external drive is J. Edit 2: No alternative computer which has a DVD drive, install files are located on an iso from MA3D. To install my 32 bit version I mounted the ISO in Daemon Tools to replace my Windows Vista but since I cannot run 64 bit into my 32 bit OS this doesn't work.

• What is the latest on Microsoft Expressoin Studio licensing?

  In the past, there's been an issue with Microsoft not allowing you to deactivate an Expression Studio key. Basically, you get two keys per license. If you assign both keys (say one to a desktop and one to a laptop), then you upgrade to a new machine (say you replace your laptop or upgrade some of the hardware), you have to buy a new copy of Expression Studio ($600 for Ultimate). This seems ludicrous to me, and I'm wondering if anyone knows if this policy is still in place. I can't seem to find a EULA online anywhere, so I don't know where to find this information. I know my laptop is due for replacement soon, and I want to know if I'm going to have to sink $600 into a software product I already purchased.   To check if an object is of a certain class one can write: if (item is Class) why isn't the opposite possible? if (item isnt Class) instead one would write if (!(item is Class) which isn't as easy to read as if "isnt" was a keyword just as "is" is. Is there something that makes it so that only "is" should be available or has "isnt" just been forgotten about?

• How do I force a server to leave a SharePoint farm

  I have two web servers in a SharePoint (WSS 3.0) farm with one database server for the config and content databases. I already moved my content databases to a new database server successfully. But when I tried to move the sharepoint config database using the "stsadm deleteconfigdb" and "stsadm setconfigdb" commands, one of my servers got stuck in an intermediate state. I was able to join one of the web servers with the config database on the new server, but the other server is not able to join because it believes it is already part of the farm (which it used to be, before the move). On the central administration it says the status of the services on the server is "stopping". Even after rebooting all servers involved, uninstalling SharePoint and what not, this status does not change, and because of it, I am not able to join the second server with the new config database. I get random error messages when trying to join the farm. I believe that if I can unstuck this server, it will be able to join the farm again. The farm believes the second server is already part of it, but the web server itself knows its not. Any ideas on how to forcefully kick out a server from the farm?

• "Server Unavailable" and removed permissions on .NET sites after Windows Update [closed]

  Our company has five almost identical Windows 2003 servers with the same host, and all but one performed an automatic Windows Update last night without issue. The one that had problems, of course, was the one which hosts the majority of our sites. What the update appeared to do was cause the NETWORK user to stop having access to the .NET Framework 2.0 files, as the event log was complaining about not being able to open System.Web. This resulted in every .NET site on the server returning "Server Unavailable" as the App Domains failed to be initialise. I ran aspnet_regiis which didn't appear to fix the problem, so I ran FileMon which revealed that nobody but the Administrators group had access to any files in any of the website folders! After resetting the permissions, things appear to be fine. I was wondering if anyone had an idea of what could have caused this to go wrong? As I say, the four other servers updated without a problem. Are there any known issues involved with any of the following updates? My major suspect at the moment is the 3.5 update as all of the sites on the server are running in 3.5.
