    Does anybody here know of a decent setup for having multiple computers and devices (iPhone/Android) logged into the same IM accounts (yahoo, gtalk, AIM) with consolidated web-based chat logs? I've tried/thought of a few approaches: IRC w/ IRSSI and bitlbee (was nice, but not a great solution for phones and chat logs were painful) Google Talk (would be great if I could just use this, but I need to support Yahoo - perhaps a Jabber relay?) Meebo (can this be used as a proxy?)

  • What part of a computer can you "skimp" on?

    So I'm thinking about building myself a new rig. I want to go for value more than anything, but I also want to get myself a nice enough setup that I can play the latest games considerably well. Last time I built a computer I skimped on the power supply and it bit me big time later on. I know the ideal answer is "don't skimp on anything", but are there are any parts of a computer you can do relatively well without having a particularly "good" component?

  • Can I set a default domain for a Windows Authenticated website in IIS7?

    I have an intranet site using Windows Authentication. When users are prompted for credentials, they enter: User: domain\username Pass: SomePassword It'd be nice if they could leave off the domain\ part which would be filled in with a default domain. I'm willing to give up the ability to login with a server/machine account (non-domain) because we don't use that anyway. This seems to be possible with BasicAuth but I can't seem to find a reference for how to do it with WindowsAuth.

    I am trying to understand some things about Rip V1 and V2 but i am not sure if i am right, As i know Rip V1 doesn't "advertise" subnet masks, and doesn't support VLSM. If i understand right Even if Rip V1 for example supports VLSM it doesn't matter, Becouse the Rip V1 Only "advertise" the IP address, If some one can please confirm/expand/correct me I will be very thankful, Thank you all and have a nice day.

    Hello, I am looking for the best A/B/G/N dual band (simultaneous) router or access point that can be flashed with community firmware like dd-wrt or openwrt. In the past I have used the WRT54G series from Linksys with great success as access points and bridges. The WRT610N looks nice but I'm not sure how well the community firmwares support it. I am open to any manufacturer and any input or experience would be appreciated.

  • Remote assistance from Remote Desktop sessions: unable to control

    Since Remote Control (aka Session Shadowing) is gone for good in Server 2012 Remote Desktop Session hosts, I am looking for a replacement to support users in a cross-domain environment. Since Remote Assistance is supposed to work for Remote Desktop Sessions as well, I tried leveraging that for support purposes by enabling unsolicited remote assistance for all Remote Desktop Session Hosts via Group Policy. All seems to be working well except that the "expert" seems to be unable to actually excercise any mouse or keyboard control when the remote assistance session has been initiated from a Remote Desktop session itself. Mouse clicks and keyboard strokes from the "expert" session (Server 2012) seem to simply be ignored even after the assisted user has acknowledged the request for control. I would like to see this working through RD sessions for the support staff due to a number of reasons: not every support agent would have the appropriate client system version to support users on a specific terminal server (e.g. an agent might have a Windows Vista or Windows 7 station and thus be unable to offer assistance to users on Server 2012 RDSHs) a support agent would not necessarily have a station which is a member of the specific destination domain (mainly due to the reason that more than a single domain's users are supported) what am I missing?

    Hello, I'm looking for a nice way to add / remote ips (and possibly interact with an asset inventory system to track where ips are), start / stop processes, download logs, and all around genearal system admin duties from one place. It's okay if I require more than 1 program. That would still be better than having 50 million terminals open and trying to trace ip assignments etc on whiteboards.   • Hooking up my power switch/reset switch/LEDs

    I'm working on building a computer (first time for me). There are several plugs that I need to connect to the motherboard (Power LED, reset switch, etc). Of the two wires, they are either: Color and white (reset switch, power LED, HDD LED) red and black (speaker, power switch) The manual for the motherboard has a nice diagram of where to plug them in, but has them labeled + or -. Which colors are positive, and which are negative?

  • How to reconnect VPN automatically after sleep/hibernate on Vista/7?

    I'm using Win 7's built-in VPN client but every time I put my computer to sleep / hibernate mode and then wake it up again, the connection is lost and I need to reconnect manually. Is there any way to automate it? Wireless connections have a nice little checkbox ("automatically connect when this network is in range") but I couldn't find anything similar for VPN connections. Task scheduler maybe?

    Hi I have a single monitor, but with a wide resolution. Some times it would be helpful to have two applications running next to each other. Is there a tool to quickly tell windows to resize the two applications to fit the desktop? Perhaps even with an option to make the one application use 75% and the other 25% I know the Windows 7 Alt+left/right arrow feature, which is nice, but still needs too many clicks.

But when I am trying to boot from that USB key I get the following error: "no bootable partition in table" It seems like USB key is not prepared properly ... How can I install gOS from USB key?

  • Melting plastic around DC-in jack in laptop

    I recently noticed that the plastic around the DC-in jack of my laptop was warped (melted) a little bit. Since I noticed, I have done some experiments, and saw that the metal tip of the charger heats up very much when I am gaming, or performing CPU-intensive work (it's so hot that i can't hold it between my fingers). When I am using Windows normally (web browsing, music, video), the tip is not hot. I tried using another charger from a compatible laptop, but its metal tip overheated as well, so the problem is not caused by the charger. I have been using this laptop for gaming for 1.5 years and I never had this problem. When gaming I always use a laptop cooler. Dust is not the problem (i cleaned out the dust), and the CPU and GPU temperatures are not higher than when I got the laptop. The only thing that is excessively hot is the charger tip. Because I bought my laptop from the USA, sending it to warranty and back would cost more than the laptop's value, so I need to fix it myself. I have googled around, and I saw that the problem might be the DC-in jack that is located on the motherboard of the laptop. I plan to take the laptop apart and see if it has become loose, and soldering it in place if it has. My questions for you are: Did anyone deal with this problem in the past? Did anyone manage to fix it? Is the DC-in jack the culprit in this case? Or is it possible for the problem to be caused by another part on the motherboard? Is there any way I can check the DC-in jack with a multimeter? What should I measure (resistance, etc)? EDIT: My laptop is a Sager NP5135 (aka Clevo B5130M).   • Looking for an application to record audio and video on a linux "embedded" device

    I am working with a linux x86 device with limited CPU resources (as a prototype we just use a pentium-m netbook). We'd like to record video from one V4L2 device (we'll probably end up using just USB Video Class devices like all modern webcams) and one audio stream from an ALSA source. The thing will not have screen and keyboard, and obviously no X11 environment. Goals are: do as little work as possible to cope with little cpu resources - for example I'd like to record video in the native MJPEG I get out of the UVC devices encoding audio to MPEG3 Layer-2 (aka mp2) is ok since it let us save a lot of space (compared to raw pcm samples) and does use little cpu power I don't mind loosing some video frames here and there (UVC devices do that) as long as I can get audio and video streams syncronized not require user input to start the thing (a python script takes care of initialization, startup, shutdown, etc...) be able to open the resulting files for postprocessing without too much effort (ie, if mplayer or vlc can play it, it's fine) So far the only app I found that could be started from command line and record V4L2 video + ALSA audio is mencoder but I'm having some difficulties with it. It should be able to do that but I cannot record audio and video together - just one of the two. And if I use two different processes to record to two different files I have no means to get them in sync (audio is more or less always correct, but video framerate will vary over time and it seems to lack timestamps to correctly play it back to the correct time). Long story short, how do you record an unconverted MJPEG stream (from an UVC device) and an audio stream (from an ALSA device, possibly encoding to any standard format) using a command line tool, to a single file (MPEG or any other container), keeping audio and video in sync?
