    I want to take the id of the most recent item in a database, increment it by one and insert that new id in to another table. I tried: $select = mysql_query("SELECT id FROM tableName ORDER BY id DESC"); while ($return = mysql_fetch_assoc($select)) { $id = $return['id']; $newId = $id++; } mysql_query("INSERT INTO anotherTable (someColumn) VALUES ('$newId')"); But it didn't work.   • How to get the ID of the last insert.

    I have an application and around 20 accounts are created per minute (on average). I need to implement a new feature which requires the ID of the last insert. I am using PDO. The question is, lets say 5 users create accounts at exactly the same time. Will it return the ID from the database for that users profile that was just created, or will it return the last insert? If you get what I mean.

    Hi! I'm doing a INSERT ... ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE but I need the update part to be conditional, only doing the update if some extra condition has changed. However, WHERE is not allowed on this UPDATE. Is there any workaround for this? I can't do combinations of INSERT/UPDATE/SELECT since this needs to work over a replication.

  • Why do XSLT editors insert tab or space characters into XSLT to format it?

    All XSLT editors I've tried till now add tab or space characters to the XSLT to indent it for formatting. This is done even in places within the XSLT where these characters are significant to the XSLT processor. XSLT modified for formatting in this way can produce output very different to that of the original XSLT if it had no formatting. To prevent this, xsl:text elements or other XSLT must be added to a sequence constructor to help separate formatting from content, this additional XSLT impacts on maintainability. Formatting characters also adversely impact on general usability of the tool in a number of ways (this is why word-processors don't use them I guess) and add to the size of the file. As part of a larger project I've had to develop a light-weight XSLT editor, it's designed to format XSLT properly, but without tab or space characters, just a dynamic left-margin for each new line. The XSLT therefore doesn't need additional elements to separate formatting tab or space characters from content. The problem with this is that if XSLT from this editor is opened in other XSLT editors, characters will be added for formatting reasons and the XSLT may therefore no longer behave as intended. Why then do existing XSLT editors use tabs or spaces for formatting in the first place? I feel there must be valid reasons, perhaps historical, perhaps practical. An answer will help me understand whether I need to put compatibility options in place in my XSLT editor somehow, whether I should simply revert to using tabs or spaces for both XSLT content and formatting (though this seems like a backwards step to me), or even whether enough XSLT users might be able to persuade their tools vendors to include alternative formatting methods to tabs or spaces.     I set up a PXE server which hosts both Ubuntu Desktop and Ubuntu Server. Ubuntu Desktop is installed successfully from PXE. Then, I saved the project, copied the project folder into a pendrive, tried to 'Open Project' in mate's laptop, using the same Java Netbeans IDE version. When I tried to open the frames, they displayed empty labels, without images. What went wrong?

  • What is the best way to auto-generate INSERT statements for a SQL Server table?

    We are writing a new application, and while testing, we will need a bunch of dummy data. I've added that data by using MS Access to dump excel files into the relevant tables. Every so often, we want to "refresh" the relevant tables, which means dropping them all, re-creating them, and running a saved MS Access append query. The first part (dropping & re-creating) is an easy sql script, but the last part makes me cringe. I want a single setup script that has a bunch of INSERTs to regenerate the dummy data. I have the data in the tables now. What is the best way to automatically generate a big list of INSERT statements from that dataset? I'm thinking of something like in TOAD (for Oracle) where you can right-click on a grid and click Save As-Insert Statements, and it will just dump a big sql script wherever you want. The only way I can think of doing it is to save the table to an excel sheet and then write an excel formula to create an INSERT for every row, which is surely not the best way. I'm using the 2008 Management Studio to connect to a SQL Server 2005 database.

    I want to prevent users from accidentally posting a comment twice. I use the PRG (post redirect get) method, so that I insert the data on another page then redirect the user back to the page which shows the comment. This allows users to refresh as many times as they want. However this doesn't work when the user goes back and clicks submit again or when they click submit 100 times really fast. I don't want 100 of the same comments. I looked at related questions on SO and found that a token is best. I did use protected void SqlDataSourceCreateNewSchedule_Selecting(object sender, SqlDataSourceSelectingEventArgs e) { e.Command.Parameters["@CreatedBy"].Value = Context.User.Identity.Name; } DetailsView properties: autogen fields: off, default mode: insert, it shows all the fields that may not be expected by the procedure like ID (primary key) not required in procedure and CreatedBy (user id ) field . So I tried removing the 2 fields from detailsview and shows error Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'CreatedBy', table 'D:\OAS\OAS\APP_DATA\ASPNETDB.MDF.dbo.OASTest'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails. The statement has been terminated. For some reason parameters value is not being set. Can anybody bother to understand this and help?

  • What is the fastest way to insert 100 000 records from one database to another?

    I have a mobile application. My client has a large data set ~100.000 records. It's updated frequently. When we sync we need to copy from one database to another. I have attached the second database to the main, and run an insert into table select * from sync.table. This is extremely slow, it takes about 10 minutes I think. I noticed that the journal file gets increased step by step. How can I speed this up? EDITED 1 I have indexes off, and I have journal off. Using insert into table select * from sync.table it still takes 10 minutes. EDITED 2 If I run a query like select id,invitem,invid,cost from inventory where itemtype = 1 order by invitem limit 50 it takes 15-20 seconds.
