    I want to compare UTC timestamps from a log file with local timestamps. When creating the local datetime object, I use something like: >>> local_time=datetime.datetime(2010, 4, 27, 12, 0, 0, 0, tzinfo=pytz.timezone('Israel')) I want to find an automatic tool that would replace thetzinfo=pytz.timezone('Israel') with the current local time zone.     I managed to get this code to compile with out error. But somehow it did not return the strings that I wrote inside file1.txt and file.txt that I pass its path through str1 and str2. My objective is to use this open source library to measure the similarity between strings contains inside 2 text files. Inside the its Javadoc, its states that ... public static java.lang.StringBuffer fileToString(java.io.File f) private call to load a file and return its content as a string. Parameters: f - a file for which to load its content Returns: a string containing the files contents or "" if empty or not present Here's is my modified code trying to use the FileLoader function, but fails to return the strings inside the file. The end result keeps on returning me the "" .     I have a DateTime object I want to compare against an sql datetime field in a where clause. I'm currently using: "where (convert( dateTime, '" & datetimeVariable.ToString & "',103) <= DatetimeField)" But I believe datetimeVariable.ToString will return a different value depending on the culture where the system is running. How would you handle this so it is culture independent?

  • Reliable and fast way to convert a zillion ODT files in PDF?

    I need to pre-produce a million or two PDF files from a simple template (a few pages and tables) with embedded fonts. Usually, I would stay low level in a case like this, and compose everything with a library like ReportLab, but I joined late in the project. Currently, I have a template.odt and use markers in the content.xml files to fill with data from a DB. I can smoothly create the ODT files, they always look rigth. For the ODT to PDF conversion, I'm using openoffice in server mode (and PyODConverter w/ named pipe), but it's not very reliable: in a batch of documents, there is eventually a point after which all the processed files are converted into garbage (wrong fonts and letters sprawled all over the page). Problem is not predictably reproducible (does not depend on the data), happens in OOo 2.3 and 3.2, in Ubuntu, XP, Server 2003 and Windows 7. My Heisenbug detector is ticking. I tried to reduce the size of batches and restarting OOo after each one; still, a small percentage of the documents are messed up. Of course I'll write about this on the Ooo mailing lists, but in the meanwhile, I have a delivery and lost too much time already. Where do I go? Completely avoid the ODT format and go for another template system. Suggestions? Anything that takes a few seconds to run is way too slow. OOo takes around a second and it sums to 15 days of processing time. I had to write a program for clustering the jobs over several clients. Keep the format but go for another tool/program for the conversion. Which one? There are many apps in the shareware or commercial repositories for windows, but trying each one is a daunting task. Some are too slow, some cannot be run in batch without buying it first, some cannot work from command line, etc. Open source tools tend not to reinvent the wheel and often depend on openoffice. Converting to an intermediate .DOC format could help to avoid the OOo bug, but it would double the processing time and complicate a task that is already too hairy. Try to produce the PDFs twice and compare them, discarding the whole batch if there's something wrong. Although the documents look equal, I know of no way to compare the binary content. Restart OOo after processing each document. it would take a lot more time to produce them it would lower the percentage of the wrong files, and make it very hard to identify them. Go for ReportLab and recreate the pages programmatically. This is the approach I'm going to try in a few minutes. Learn to properly format bulleted lists Thanks a lot.

I have a different question for anyone who has experience using WebForms that has since moved to MVC: What is the number one thing that WebForms had, that MVC doesn't, that you really miss? Edit No-one has mentioned the WebForms validation controls. I am now working on some code that has a few dependant validation rules and implementing client-side validation for these is proving slow.

    Hi, The default patch file viewer is messy (ie. no side by side diff view etc). I tried setting the path of beyondCompare exe in "Settings-Unified Diff Viewer-custom", but beyond compare also behaves same as default diff tool. Is there a way to atleast allow side by side diff in patch files ? If so, what is the method ? My aim is to allow emailing of changes so that they can be reviewed before I commit them :) Mishal

I'd rather have a lazy sequence of bytes, but I can't find the right API in F#.

When user establishes connection to mysql server I want to know whether the user have privileges like root (i.e. GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON . TO 'username'@'%' WITH GRANT OPTION).The 'SHOW GRANTS FOR CURRENT_USER' query gives grants for current user, but i need to parse the string and compare to know whether the current user have privileges like root.
