    Possible Duplicate: Find out what the motherboard on my computer is I need to find the model of my motherboard so I can find what soundcard/chip it uses so I can get some drivers for it. Is there anyway to get this from inside XP? I looked through device manager but haven't seen anything that would tell me. I built the system over a year ago and don't have any receipts to check what it was.

  • Computer wakes up from hibernation at exctly 3:40am every day

    I'm getting tired of waking up to my computer being turned on, and event log shows that it's waking up everyday at 3:40am and most times won't go back to sleep after the determined 30 minutes (maybe from being in the lock screen?). There are no devices armed for wake, activation timers are disabled and all wake options disabled in the BIOS and energy star 4.0c is enabled (was disabled before but no difference).

  • Computer keeps locking me out

    When I'm away from my computer (Windows XP) for more than ~30 minutes, I get locked out, and have to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to login. I've checked the screensaver settings, and it's not set to lock the screen. Does anyone know what else could be causing this? Thanks

  • Streaming from a second computer

    I play games on my laptop, and they run at about 30-45 fps, which is bearable for me. But when I try to stream, the frame rate drops to 20 or lower, which is unplayable for me. I have a second computer though (a Mac, the laptop is Win7), and I'm wondering if there is anyway to stream the game content (onto Twitch.tv) from my laptop using my Mac. Is this possible, and how would I go about doing it?

I should be able to see each keyboard log from my laptop (from GUI or e-mail message) Also, is it possible to limit the logging?     I would like to rent a remote computer, like a virtual Vista or Windows 7 desktop, and run everything on it and access it with RDP (fastest). It could be virtual (running on Xen or Hyper-V) and the price needs to be right. Windows 7 to Windows 7 has nice RDP offload feature and doing stuff in the cloud is fast. Anywhere I could rent something like that? I've been using Amazon and CloudLayer, but they are optimized for server versions of Windows.

  • Share Firefox/Thnderbird data between W7 and Linux Mint 12 in dual boot computer

    I've just set up my laptop (where I had running only W7) with a dual boot to run Linux Mint 12 as well. I have a "Data" partition (apart from the required partitions for W7 and Linux) where I store pretty much everything that isn't software installations (music, videos, project files, etc). I seem to be able to access that NTFS partition totally fine from Mint (like I've always done with W7), which is cool because I can access all that stuff regardless of which OS I'm using. I would like to know if it's possible (and how) to go one step further and share programs data between the two OS. One example would be my Firefox and Thunderbird data. For example, in Firefox share my bookmarks (and if I could share history, autocomplete and all that stuff, that would be awesome). In thunderbird, be able to share my mail and configuration, seeing the same inbox, folders, message rules, etc... So if I receive/send an email from W7 and later switch to Mint, I can see that email as it had been received/sent from Mint, and vice versa. Is this even possible? Or am I asking for too much convenience? If it's possible, any clues on how to set it all up?

In order to tidy this table up, I need to get this information as a date range rather than a row per day as it currently is. I can obviously do this with Min and Max aggregates easily but the ranges overlap and other business code expect non-overlapping ranges. I also tried to achieve this with self joins and row_number(), but without much success...   • Why does my motherboard go through an endless reboot cycle when 8 GB of memory is attempted vs 6 GB?

    I never got an answer in my googling to this about a year ago and have an extra stick of memory I'd like to be able to use. When is inserted the computer starts, and then reboots immediately in an endless reboot cycle. As soon as the 4th stick is removed, the computer works fine. Right now I have 6 GB of my 8 GB installed. Is there a solution that I am missing to enabling this motherboard to actually boot up with all 8 GB (it supports it). Right now it won't even boot up to BIOS with the 4 sticks... only 3?   • Link To Work Item &ndash; Visual Studio extension to link changeset(s) to work item directly from VS history window

Now, you will really feel the difficulty if you have to assign work item to multiple changesets, you have to repeat the same steps again. Hence, I decided to develop a small Visual Studio extension to perform this action of linking work item to changeset bit easier. How to use the extension? First, download and install the extension from VS Gallery (Supports VS 2013 Professional and above). Once you install, you will see a new "Link To Work Item" menu item when you right click on a changeset in history window. Clicking Link To Work Item menu, will open a new dialog with which you can search for a work item. As you can see in below screenshot, this dialog displays the search result and also the type of the work item. You can also open work item from this dialog by right clicking on the work item and clicking 'Open'. Finally, clicking Save button, will actually link the work item to changeset. One feature which I think helpful, is you can select multiple changesets from history window and assign the work item to all those changesets.  To summarize the features Directly assign work items to changesets from history window Assign work item to multiple changesets Know the type of the work item before assigning. Open the work item from search results It also supports all default Visual Studio themes. Below is a small demo showcasing the working of this extension.   • Why are floating point values so prolific?

    So, title says it all. Why are floating point values so prolific in computer programming. Due to problems like rounding errors, and not being able to even accurately represent numbers such as 0.1, I really can't see how they got as far as they did. I understand that the computation is faster with floating point numbers, however, I can think of only a few cases that they actually the right data type would be using. If you sat back and think about every time you used a floating point value, how many times did you say, well, some error would be ok, as long as the result was a few microseconds faster. It really makes me think because Jeff was talking about NP completeness, and how heuristics give an answer that is kind of right. And well, computers shouldn't do that. They should give you the answer that is correct. Yet we see floating point values used in many applications where they are completely not valid. What really bugs me, isn't that floating point exists, but that in many languages, there isn't even a viable alternative, non-floating point, decimal value. A lot of programmers when doing financial applications have to fall back to storing the number of cents in an integer field. Which brings with it all kinds of other problems. Why do floats continue to be so prolific, even though they can't represent the real answer, and we expect computers to be accurate? [EDIT] Just to clarify, I was talking about Base 2 floating points, and not base 10 floating points. .Net offers the Decimal data type, which is a base 10 floating point value which offers a much better representation of the numbers we deal with on a daily basis in most computer programs. I find it hard to believe that even modern languages like Java don't support base 10 floating point values, unless you want to move into the realm of things like BigDecimal, which isn't really the right answer either in a lot of situations.

  • Why would only the cpu fan not spin and no video displayed?

    I just built a new computer and when I first powered it on I got a continuous beeping which according to the manual means a power failure. After moving the voltage switch to the left a little I was able to get the beeping to stop. Even after the stopping though the CPU fan doesn't spin, and there is no display on the monitor. All the other fans and lights come on in the computer though, the DVD drive is working and ejects the tray, and the hard drive sounds like it spins up. Has anyone seen this before and know what is wrong or what has failed?

    I'm creating a notification with something similar to the following: Intent ni = new Intent(this, SomeActivity.class); ni.putExtra("somestring", "somedata"); PendingIntent contentIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0, ni, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT|PendingIntent.FLAG_ONE_SHOT); Context context = getApplicationContext(); notification.setLatestEventInfo(context, res.getString(R.string.app_name), text, contentIntent); The key here is the extra data on the Intent for the notification. Once I click on the notification and it brings up SomeActivity, it brings up the activity and the extra data is available. However, if I exit the app, hold the home button until the recent activities list comes up, and choose to open the app again, the extra data is still passed. Is there a way I can make this data get passed only if the app is opened via the Notification, and not from the recent activities list?

  • What ever happened to APL?

    When I was at University 30 years ago, I used a programming language called APL. I believe the acronym stood for "A Programming Language", This language was interpretive and was especially useful for array and matrix operations with powerful operators and library functions to help with that. Did you use APL? Is this language still in use anywhere? Is it still available, either commercially or open source? I remember the combinatorics assignment we had. It was complex. It took a week of work for people to program it in PL/1 and those programs ranged from 500 to 1000 lines long. I wrote it in APL in under an hour. I left it at 10 lines for readability, although I should have been a purist and worked another hour to get it into 1 line. The PL/1 programs took 1 or 2 minutes to run on the IBM mainframe and solve the problem. The computer charge was $20. My APL program took 2 hours to run and the charge was $1,500 which was paid for by our Computer Science Department's budget. That's when I realized that a week of my time is worth way more than saving some $'s in someone else's budget. I got an A+ in the course. p.s. I use TortoiseSVN 1.6.3 on WXP and there is no svnadmin.exe command in all my C folder, where am I supposed to download these applications? Thanks!
