  • Is there a name for a pure-data Objective-C class?

    This is less of a code-specific question and more of an Objective-C nomenclature question. In C you have struct for pure data. In Enterprise Java, you have "bean" classes that are purely member variables with getters and setters, but no business logic. In Adobe FLEX, you have "Value Objects". In Objective-C, is there a proper name for an object (descended from NSObject, of course) that simply has ivars and getters/setters (or @property/@synthesize, if you want to get fancy) and no real business logic? A more concrete example might be a simple class with getters and setters for filename, file size, description, and assorted other metadata. You could then take a bunch of these and easily throw them into a container (NSDictionary, NSArray) without the need for messy NSValue wrapping of a C struct. It is also a little more structure than putting, say, a bunch of loosely-typed child NSDictionaries into a parent container object.

  • Have an external java application by notified of changes to Entity EJBs in JBoss AS

    I'm trying to connect an external application to a JBoss AS container. The external application is a Java application that is currently being notified of changes to database entities through a JMS topic. I've added an EntityLifecycleListener class to all my entities that publishes a serialized (and unwrapped) copy of the entity to the JMS topic. The problem is that this implementation ignores the transaction boundaries of the JBoss container. For example, the @PostUpdate event can be fire, generating the JMS message for that entity, but the transaction could be rolled back causing the external application to be notified of an invalid change and become unsync'd. I need my external application to only be notified of successful commits to the database, but I need to be able to publish the entire java POJO to the external application. Is there an official way of doing this?

    I have a Websphere topology wherein in Cluster1, I have an MDB that's trying to publish to another MDB that resides in Cluster2. Since they're both in the same container, I tried simply Blockquote Context ctx = new InitialContext(); ctx.lookup("jms/MyQueue"); Blockquote The "jms/MyQueue" is configured in Cluster2. As you can see, this doesn't work!! 1) Do I have to provide an environment entry while creating the InitialContext? Even though both clusters are part of the same container? 2) If not, how then can I lookup the said queue in Cluster 2?

When I loop through the container to add panels and buttons, the first add() throws the OOB exception.     I have been developing a managed extensibility framework application for the last several months using the community preview. I have been using the GetExportedValues() method and the PartCreationPolicy(CreationPolicy.NonShared) to fake a class factory (since only the silverlight version supports a factory). This was working great until I upgraded the project to use .net 4.0. There is no error, it just doesn't work. So why did this code stop working?     I wrote a simple test project, but I cant understand why I always receive savedInstanceState = null in lifecycle methods onCreate, onCreateView and onActivityCreated. I change the screen orientation, see the log, but state not saved. Tell me please where is my mistake. Thanks.   • Align text with bottom as it comes in during a chat?

    I'm building a custom web chat application, and while I have the basics worked out, I've been wondering if this was possible... right now, the chat comes in at the top of the div, and when it reaches the bottom, the div starts scrolling. This works. This is great. But I was wondering if it was possible to create it more like an IRC client, where the chat comes in initially at the bottom of the div, then each new line comes in below the old ones, etc, and again, when the div is full, it starts scrolling. I've managed to get part of this working: I can get it displaying this way. But I can't find a way to scroll it; either the scroll doesn't appear (when there's no overflow on the inner, text div, despite there being an overflow on the outer, container div), or it's confined to the width of the text rather than the width of the container div. Some options I've tried: <div id="chatbox" style="overflow: auto; position: relative; width: 100%; height: 400px;"> <div id="chatmessages" style="overflow: auto; position: absolute; bottom: 0;"></div></div> This has the text appear properly at the bottom, but no scrollbar ever appears. <div id="chatbox" style="overflow: auto; position: relative; width: 100%; height: 400px;"> <div id="chatmessages" style="overflow: scroll; position: absolute; bottom: 0;"></div></div> This has the text appear properly at the bottom, and a scrollbar appears, but it's only ever as wide as the text, even if width=100%... and when the text reaches the top, the scrollbar remains gray. Basically, do I want the scrollbar on the inner or the container div, is this even possible, how do I force it to work, and am I going about this entirely wrong?

    I would like to know how a set is implemented in C++. If I were to implement my own set container without using the STL provided container, what would be the best way to go about this task? I understand STL sets are based on the abstract data structure of a binary search tree. So what is the underlying data structure? An array? Also, how does insert() work for a set? How does the set check whether an element already exists in it? I read on wikipedia that another way to implement a set is with a hash table. How would this work?

  • On Linux do people chroot a Java Web Application or use IPTables and run as non-root?

    When you run a Java Servlet Container that you would like to serve both static and dynamic content on port 80 you have the classic question of whether to run the server as: As root in hopefully a chroot jail if you can (haven't gotten this working yet) As a non root user and then use IPTables to forward port 80 to some other port (1024) that the container is running on Both: As a non root user, IPTables, and chroot jail. The problem with opt. 1 is the complexity of chrooting and still the security problems of running root.The problem with opt. 2 is that each Linux distro has a different way of persisting IPTables. Option 3 of course is probably idea but very hard to setup. Finally every distro has the annoying differences in daemon scripts. What do people find as the best distro agnostic solution and are there resources to show how to do this?

  • Deleted nib still displayed when controller is pushed

    I have an application with a UINavcontroller under a tab bar controller. To create the navigation model I want, I push a container UIView object onto the stack to manage additional views(Thanks Frank). When I created the container class, an associated nib file was created along with it. I at first used that nib file, but it turned out it was better not to. So I deleted the nib (and selected 'also move to trash'). The problem is that it still shows up when I push its view controller onto the stack. I have tried emptying the cache in xcode and restarting xcode. What am I missing?

  • Jquery ajax using asp.net does not work on IE9 during the 2nd call of the function?

    I have gridview that is loaded from another aspx page after an ajax call, the problem is it works on chrome/firefox/safari but using ie9 the ajax call would work fine during the first call but when i try to call the function again it throws an 304 status on the network tab of ie9 dev tool and the gridview is not refreshed. The problem is that when I ran it on IE9 during the 1st insert everything works properly but the succeeding inserts does reload the gridview and I noticed that it says '304' on the network tab of ie9 dev tool.

  • AllowSetForegroundWindow & SetForegroundWindow: NPAPI plug-in wants to allow a desktop application with no success

    Here it's what I have: a web browser plug-in written in C++ and a Windows application written in C#. They communicate through a named pipe. The plug-in instructs the C# application to open a file (suppose that the file is a .txt and it opens in Notepad). Once the C# application is given the command, it opens the file but Notepad doesn't show in the foreground, which isn't acceptable, I must open Notepad in the foreground. I modified the C# application so that it calls the SetForegroundWindow function. This time Notepad didn't open in the foreground, but the taskbar flashes. After reading the documentation for SetForegroundWindow and many articles I think that now I understand what the problem is: the C# application can't bring Notepad to the foreground because it wasn't the the foreground process, the browser was (?). After reading this: "A process that can set the foreground window can enable another process to set the foreground window by calling the AllowSetForegroundWindow function." I decided to modify the plug-in. This time the plug-in calls the AllowSetForegroundWindow function passing ASFW_ANY as a parameter (I know, ASFW_ANY could be risky, but I wanted to make sure that AllowSetForegroundWindow would do it). After I did the modification to the plug-in I tested it and it worked! (Opera 12.02). Then I tested it on Internet Explorer and it worked too. But the problem came when I tested it in Firefox and Chrome. The C# application didn't have the ability to bring Notepad to the foreground. I noticed that for those browsers the AllowSetForegroundWindow function was returning false. So I started investigating and I come to the conclusion that maybe it's because the plugin container that Firefox uses. An idea came to my mind: it worked in Opera 12.02, but they don't have a plugin container, although they did in Opera 12.00. So I downloaded Opera 12.00, I did the test and it failed, which makes me conclude that the plugin container is the culprit. The question is: how can I give to the C# application the ability to set foreground? I don't know how to continue, and I think that I tried all the legitimate ways. The AllowSetForegroundWindow & SetForegroundWindow seems to not apply here.

It should have been more like: Can I have STL containers of a base type stored by-value in which the elements exhibit polymorphic behavior? If you are asking the question in terms of C++, the answer is "no." At some point, you will slice objects stored by-value. Now I ask the question again, but strictly in terms of C++11. With the changes to the language and the standard libraries, is it now possible to store polymorphic objects by value in an STL container? I'm well aware of the possibility of storing a smart pointer to the base class in the container -- this is not what I'm looking for, as I'm trying to construct objects on the stack without using new.   • How to read & write contents of a div from localstorage in chrome extensions?

    I am trying to build an extension that will allow users to put some parameters into a text box in the popup, generate a link using that information and add it to the said popup. I have all that working, but needless to say, it gets flushed every time the user opens the extension anew. I'd like the info that has been put in there to stay, but can't seem to get it to work.   • KineticJS issue with repeatable mouse event

    I have noob issue here (i obviously missing something). I simplified it from my bigger application: When i click blue rectangle, i add another layer to the stage that includes red rectangle (clickable), when i clik this red rectangle it removes second layer with red rect. Problem: When i click blue rect second time, nothing happens :( i.e. app works only once, and i need to add/remove second layer(with red rect) repeatedly.   • How to apply dynamically scale down and up into a thumbnail images size?

    I'm working on one current project, I don't have any issues to load a SWF into a main SWF but I can't figure out how to apply dynamically the scale down and up into a thumbnail images size while using the Resize event handler. I load SWF into a Loader object then add it into a container = currentMC. I want to size it and keep all the pieces inside this container. Therefore no matter browser size, I just want to be able to apply scale on it to fit it. Does anyone know how to do that? Any code examples would help me a lot. I'm using Flash.
