  • Kernel Panic on VMware Workstation 7.1.3

    I've been trying to install either Arch Linux or Fedora 17 on VMWare Workstation (7.1.3). After I point to the right ISO image, I get the following error: Booting the kernel PANIC: early exception 0d rip:ffffffff81042dc4 error 0 cr2 0 I am trying to install it on a machine which has a 3rd generation i5 processor. After checking A VMWare panic early exception fix for ivy bridge i3, i5, i7, I tried to turn off the nosmep acpi. This is around, I get the same error but at a different address. Apparently, others have faced this issue before. Thanks in advance.

  • kernel: journal commit I/O error

    I am having some problems with a Dell 1950 server. I am installing RHEL 4.6 along with Oracle and some other software on here. I am randomly getting an error message saying "kernel: journal commit I/O error" on my ssh session and on the monitor I have hooked up to the server I see an error scrolling by that says "EXT3-fs error (device sda5) in start_transaction: Journal has aborted." It has happened several times but never at the same point during the install. Actually, this last time the system was up and running and I was just trying to import a database into oracle. This has happened on several hard drives, so I'm pretty sure that is not the problem. This makes me think the raid controller is going bad. What do you guys think? ** UPDATE ** Pretty sure it was a bad hard drive. I threw another drive in the server and it's been running for about 48 hours with out problems.

  • What are the mandatory Linux kernel modules to run inside of ESXi

    I'm used to rolling my own kernels for servers, as it nicely minimizes the number of exploits (and the resulting patches) to take care of. In a traditional (bare metal) world, the whole process is about knowing what you have (hardware), and what you need (Ethernet, IPv4, iptables, etc.) In a virtualized environment, some things stay the same (still need Ethernet and IPv4), some things go away (power management), and then there are some new needs (vxnet3, or vmware-tools, even though that's compiled outside of the kernel). So my question mostly concerns itself with the last two categories: what can I remove completely, and what new stuff do I want? For example, what IO scheduler do I want, if all my disk operations are going through another filesystem/scheduler/cache to get to the virtual disk? Do I need hyper-threading enabled, or is the VM going to show them to me anyway as a CPU anyway? Do I need Large Receive Offload turned on, or is that something that the hypervisor's network drivers are going to do for me?

  • Modifying kernel shared memory settings on a lion install

    What's the location of the sysctl.conf file on lion? In Snow Leopard it was in /etc/sysctl.conf but now that folder doesn't contain it anymore. Searching for the file in spotlight yields no results. Have the shared memory settings been moved to a different conf file? What is it's name? EDIT I am trying to modify the kernel shared memory settings of the machine. When I didn't find the sysctl.conf file in the right place, I created my own with the recommended settings and put into /etc directory. However running sysctl -a still shows me that the old memory settings are in place. How do I go about modifying these on a lion install?

From experience it might have to do with relatively heavy I/O, as two of the panics happened during a backup procedure. Kernel is 2.6.38-12-generic-pae, but I'm pretty sure I also saw panics on 2.6.32. I meanwhile upgraded to 3.0.0-17-generic-pae and am waiting for the next crash ;-) I'm at a loss here, so any pointers where to look for the cause or what it could be would be great :-) Thanks !

    I have some disks that were being used on a Solaris system. The disks are formatted as UFS. I attached them to a Debian system (with FreeBSD kernel. Debian/kFreeBSD), but I cannot mount them. $ mount -t ufs /dev/da2s1 /mnt/diska mount: /dev/da2s1 : Invalid argument Also the tunefs.ufs does not work; $ tunefs.ufs -p /dev/da2s1 tunefs.ufs: /dev/da2s1: could not read superblock to fill out disk Is there an incompatibility between FreeBSD UFS and Solaris UFS?     i installed ubuntu using wubit inside the windows and started working on it then i got this error afer updating [0.8879153] kernel panic -not syncing VFS unable to mount fs unknow block (8.3) and i can't user rescue mode and it's give me another error no filesystem could mount root ..... i looked at grub folder and didn' find any file on disks/boot/grub/ so i tryed to user super grub to fix it but it didn' work and it keep giving me. boot/grub/stage1 not found i didn't edit anything from grub folder. any idea plz .

Search and download samples from the online Samples Gallery when the user has internet access. Browse the sample code files and learn the sample documentation of downloaded samples with or without internet access.   In addition to the "browse” function, the Sample Browser could further support “bookmark”, “learning notes”, “code review”, and “quick social sharing". Make full use of the new touch and Windows Store App UI to give developers a new “relaxing” code browsing and learning experience, anytime, anywhere.   • Editing sqlcmdvariable nodes in SSDT Publish Profile files using msbuild

    Publish profile files are a new feature of SSDT database projects that enable you to package up all environment-specific properties into a single file for use at publish time; I have written about them before at Publish Profile Files in SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) and if it wasn’t obvious from that blog post, I’m a big fan! As I have used Publish Profile files more and more I have realised that there may be times when you need to edit those Publish profile files during your build process, you may think of such an operation as a kind of pre-processor step. In my case I have a sqlcmd variable called DeployTag, it holds a value representing the current build number that later gets inserted into a table using a Post-Deployment script (that’s a technique that I wrote about in Implementing SQL Server solutions using Visual Studio 2010 Database Projects – a compendium of project experiences – search for “Putting a build number into the DB”). Here are the contents of my Publish Profile file (simplified for demo purposes) : Notice that DeployTag defaults to “UNKNOWN”. On my current project we are using msbuild scripts to control what gets built and what I want to do is take the build number from our build engine and edit the Publish profile files accordingly.   • What is auto-mounting my media volume?

    Something is repeatedly mounting my "media" share, doing something with it, then quietly un-mounting it with no notifications at the user level. from the little I can gleaned from the console messages below, I thought I'd managed to stop it, if not understand it last night when I followed instructions for deleting all traces of the Google Update Daemon. I've not been using any Google apps whatsoever, so I was surprised to see that in Console. What's more surprising, and perhaps a little distressing, is that the same thing occurred this evening, when the Google Daemon is long gone. I don't have that log because I can't recall precisely what time it occurred. I'll do a search and provide it if you wish, though. In the meantime, any help with this would be extremely appreciated. I've asked over at Apple Discussions but I think it might be a little deeper than those manning the boards this weekend are comfortable with. It's certainly beyond my meager skills. With apologies in advance if this is more lines thank you need.     I am using Xming 6.9 with putty trying to run libreoffice remotely. It works well, but an error line appears in the terminal from where I launch it: Xlib: extension "XINERAMA" missing on display "localhost:12.0". Looks like it needs this extension but I can't find the necessary dll file (libXinerama-1.dll) for it as it is not included in the package. I ask for a link from where I could download this file (I accept a hit with a lmgtfy if you can do it) or the source code of it and how to complie it on my win7 machine... or just a surface fix could do it also if it is really clean and simple: hide the error line.

  • A Firefox extension for scan & upload document?

    Hello, Do you know such an extension that provides easy document scanning in Firefox? We are building a web site and we want visitors to be able to upload scanned documents to it. The normal procedure for that is: Scan the document via Gimp, Photoshop or some other scanning software. Save the file. Navigate to the upload web page. Find some sort of HTML input type file on that page. Browse and find the saved file. Submit the form. I want an extension or plugin that automatize that process and do everything with 1 click - scan the document with some default settings (for example "grayscale, 300 dpi") creates temporary file, fills the page input field and deletes the temporary file after upload. I tried lots of googling but the term scan in combination with everything web-related gives zillions of virus, malware and port scanners...

  • pecl_http extension not loading

    For some reason pecl_http extension is not showing up in my test.php file with contains: <?php phpinfo(); ?> I just installed pecl_http using: pecl install pecl_http The install was successful and I verified it by running: pecl list Installed packages, channel pecl.php.net: ========================================= Package Version State mongo 1.2.10 stable pecl_http 1.7.4 stable I then located my php.ini file using: php -i | grep 'Configuration File' Configuration File (php.ini) Path => /etc/php5/cli Loaded Configuration File => /etc/php5/cli/php.ini I edited it in vim and added: extension=http.so Finally I restarted Nginx and PHP-FastCGI: /etc/init.d/nginx restart /etc/init.d/php-fastcgi stop /etc/init.d/php-fastcgi start My PHP extension_dir is : /usr/lib/php5/20090626 I verified that "http.so" is located in that directory. Any ideas why it's not loading? My machine is running a Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64bit Profile on Linode. The only other extensions I have installed are New Relic and Mongo. Thanks!

  • phpize: m4 error just in one extension

    On Linux, I installed php 5.3.8 from source. Using phpize for installing an extension works fine but not on one specific extension (mysqlnd). # cd /opt/php/5.3.8/ext/pdo && /opt/php/5.3.8/bin/phpize ... this runs ok # cd /opt/php/5.3.8/ext/mysqlnd && /opt/php/5.3.8/bin/phpize Cannot find config.m4. Make sure that you run '/opt/php/5.3.8/bin/phpize' in the top level source directory of the module` As you can see error can not be that I am not on top level source directory since I am. I tried to call phpize from ext folder - did not work either! For info I have m4 installed Any idea? Thanks :)

  • Remove Shell Extension Folder X64

    I have a very strange shell extension folder which I just can't get rid of. How can I get rid of this? I already downloaded ShellExViewer, but I cannot find any extension called "X64", nor are the other extensions which reside in that folder anywhere in the Viewer. I am also not able to find that folder in the registry, but that's probably because I don't know where to look. How can I edit this so the contents of the folder are put in the "default" menu and not in a subfolder?

  • Debian on Hyper-V

    I installed Debian with kernel 2.6.32-5-686 on a Hyper-V virtual machine. I had to add a legacy network card. I follow this tutorial http://www.microsofttranslator.com/bv.aspx?ref=Internal&from=ru&to=en&a=http://blogs.technet.com/b/abeshkov/archive/2011/03/17/hyperv_5f00_debian.aspx to add Hyper-V driver but when I reboot with the new kernel it crash during bootup. Is there any other way to load hyper-v drivers? I really need to change that legacy network card because my debian machine is going to be used as proxy. Thank you.
