    I am using: - Linux Mint 11 - Geforce 560ti - nVidia driver (installed via helper programm, not from nvidia page) The third party nvidia drivers radomly cause very poor 2D performance. Radomly because the performance can be very great, but after the next reboot or login become very poor. After another reboot or login, this might change again to better or worse. I have no idea why and how and I need your help. Thank you.

Currently I am interested to dig more into Linux OS, specifically BASH but from a web developer perspective, not from sys admin perspective. I am not intending to administrate Linux Servers. Only, I want to know, does learning shell scripting benefit me as a PHP developer? Does it make me a better, more skilled developer, or just its something irrelevant?     Hi, I want to enable file sharing between servers and clients, both linux. I don't want to rely on machine trust like in NFSv4 because client users will have root privileges. What are my options besides SMB (SAMBA)? Does OpenAFS support user level authentication & access? Using mounted WebDAV/ftp/sshfs seems silly for LAN.

  • Linux-Mint Maya Mate loses Alt-F1 menu and Alt-F2 run-dialog with Compiz

    I like the Linux-Mint 13 Mate Alt-F1 menu and the Alt-F2 run-dialog, but as soon as I installed Compiz those keys became non-functional. Conpiz has a Gnome compaatibility settings panel which allows you to set these keys, but using that Compix settings panel did not make any diference (probably because Mate is not Gnome, strictly speaking)... Is there some way to get those two shortcut keys back into acton with Compiz?

    I'm finding that on occasion my Linux box runs out of memory and it starts tearing down random processes to deal with it. I'm curious what administrators do to avoid this? Is the only real solution to up the amount of memory (will upping the swap alone help?), or is there better ways to set up the box with software to avoid this? (i.e., quotas, or some such?).   • Linux Fiber Channel Host Setup Basic

    I've been googling for about 4 hours now with no luck. I am trying to setup a Linux server running Oracle Server 6.3 as a Fiber Channel host. And then connect it to a Dell Compellent Fibre Channel Host contain a 500GB Volume. The Oracle server itself contains two Brocade 815 FC HBAs. I've discovered their WWN(I think) via cat /sys/class/fc_host/host1/port_name 0x100000051efc3d85 cat /sys/class/fc_host/host2/port_name 0x100000051efc3d9f The next part is where I am at a loss. I've used iSCSI before...is FC the same deal where you have an initiator and a target? If so where do I specific that in linux? I'm also new to Fiber Channel as a protocol, so i am unsure what is needed to make a transaction? WWN and port ID? Similar to IP:Port combination in the Ethernet world. I've read alot regarding using systool, multipath, fc_transport commands, however none of these is recognized as a valid command from Oracle Server 6.3 Appreciate the guidance and assistance. All mails sent to user "dev" are forwarded via a /home/dev/.forward file, with this sender : [email protected]. host.mydomain.fr is the hostname of this server, but it's an internal server and it does not even have a public IP. How to have a sender like [email protected]? I try to change the "official domain name" (line begining by "Dj" but it change nothing). Regards Cédric

    This is the standard question, "How do I set a process limit for a user account in Linux to prevent fork-bombing," with an additional twist. The running program originates as a root-owned Python process, which then setuids/setgids itself as a regular user. As far as I know, at this point, any limits set in /etc/security/limits.conf do not apply; the setuid-ed process may now fork bomb. Any ideas how to prevent this?
