  Over the last few days Windows Live Mail stopped fetching my Hotmail. I assumed it was a problem with Microsoft’s NNTP Web service, so I went back to using the browser to check my Hotmail. Well, it didn’t right itself, so I started probing and discovered the fix… no default connection. To repair it: From the Tools menu, click Accounts. • Oracle Consulting North America is now live on PeopleSoft Services Procurement and PeopleSoft Resource Management

  Last month, Oracle's own internal consulting group (OCS North America) went live on PeopleSoft Services Procurement and PeopleSoft Resource Management to manage all aspects of identifying, recruiting, and deploying billable subcontractors on North America Applications customer consulting projects. The primary goals were to enhance the subcontractor staffing process, improve operational and informational processes, and improve collaboration between the Oracle NA Consulting Subcontractor Program and subcontractor suppliers. Over 200 registered external suppliers access the tool, review open needs and competitively bid their resources to work on NA Applications projects. • SQL SERVER – master Database Log File Grew Too Big

  Couple of the days ago, I received following email and I find this email very interesting and I feel like sharing with all of you. Note: Please read the whole email before providing your suggestions. “Hi Pinal, If you can share these details on your blog, it will help many. We understand the value of the master database and we take its regular back up (everyday midnight). Yesterday we noticed that our master database log file has grown very large. This is very first time that we have encountered such an issue. The master database is in simple recovery mode; so we assumed that it will never grow big; however, we now have a big log file. We ran the following command USE [master] GO DBCC SHRINKFILE (N'mastlog' , 0, TRUNCATEONLY) GO We know this command will break the chains of LSN but as per our understanding; it should not matter as we are in simple recovery model.     After running this, the log file becomes very small. Just to be cautious, we took full backup of the master database right away. We totally understand that this is not the normal practice; so if you are going to tell us the same, we are aware of it. However, here is the question for you? What operation in master database would have caused our log file to grow too large? Thanks, [name and company name removed as per request]“ Here was my response to them: “Hi [name removed], It is great that you are aware of all the right steps and method. Taking full backup when you are not sure is always a good practice. Regarding your question what could have caused your master database log to grow larger, let me try to guess what could have happened. Do you have any user table in the master database? If yes, this is not recommended and also NOT a good practice. If have user tables in master database and you are doing any long operation (may be lots of insert, update, delete or rebuilding them), then it can cause this situation. You have made me curious about your scenario; do revert back. Kind Regards, Pinal” Within few minutes I received reply: “That was it Pinal. We had one of the maintenance task log tables created in the master table, which had many long transactions during the night. We moved it to newly created database named ‘maintenance’, and we will keep you updated.” I was very glad to receive the email. I do not suggest that any user table should be created in the master database. It should be left alone from user objects. Now here is the question for you – can you think of any other reason for master log file growth? • Can't open a separate usbdrive when booting from a liveusb install 12.10

  My problem is using a separate flash drive when running from my live usb of ubuntu 12.10. The problem is that when I choose to Try Ubuntu from this usb drive it no longer lets me access my other flash drive. It automatically sets it to part of the live usb but it's a completely separate flash drive.Ubuntu loads fine and everything but when I go to access my other flash drive nothing happens. When I try to open it from the home folder it gives me Unable to mount 3.5 volume Adding read ACL for uid 999 to media/ubuntu failed: Operation not supported message. My live usb is on a 8gb flash drive and my other flash drive is 4g.

• ISO booting with grub2 in Ubuntu on an Apple

  I have Ubuntu with grub2 installed in an Apple Macbook pro with dual boot (using rEFIt), and I would like to use grub2 to boot the LiveCD ISO image of a system based in Debian too (CrunchBang). The ISO image is saved in the same hard disk, same partition as Ubuntu. I can easily boot many other LiveCD ISO images, but I cannot boot this one, and I cannot boot the MacOS system, from the grub menu, either. The installation of Ubuntu left a couple of menu entries to boot MacOS, but they never worked. SO I don't know if it is possible to boot them, and how.   My motherboard is gigabyte ga-g1975x-c with integrated audio "Creative Sound Blaster Live 24-bit". I have installed Ubuntu 10.10, and there was no sound at all. Alsa drivers was already installed. Finally after long searching, i have found how to make my sound work. /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf: options snd-ca0106 subsystem=0x10121102 //i have added this line and restart After restarting my speakers and microfon works fine. Maybe somebody knows different/better subsystem code for my sound card???

• initramfs - Unable to find a medium containing a live file system

  I'm desperately trying to install ubuntu 12.10 64bit on my new Ultrabook. Its a Sony T13 with 8gb ram, 256gb ssd, i7, windows 8. I have an extra partition, D: "UBUNTU" already created with about 30gb space using FAT32. Ubuntu is MD5 checked, on a previously working USB stick using UNetBootin. Grub loads fine When I ask to test out Ubuntu ("Try ubuntu without installing") it shows the purple loading screen for a bit then brings up this error in a busybox terminal: initramfs - Unable to find a medium containing a live file system Things I've tried that don't work: Different versions of Linux (Fedora, Arch, SL, even gParted) Using USB2/3 - No difference Legacy or UEFI - different interface, but same error BIOS has no option for anything "ACHI" related I have read through tons of other people having this problem and diligently tried all the above solutions, with no luck.

• I&rsquo;m back, now with Windows Live Writer goodness

  I’ve reimaged my home laptop.  I’m trying to populate it with as much free goodness as possible to see if the free way is as good as the old pay way.  Turns out, I’ve got access to Windows Live Writer.  I’m not sure where that came from, maybe with Vista Ultimate.  I don’t know.  Either way, it makes my blog posting a whole lot easier.  So, maybe, just maybe, it will make me more likely to post.  We’ll see.   I created a live usb using usb-creator-gtk. I installed Ubuntu with it and all was good with the world. • (Xubuntu) no touchpad or mouse on Aspire One D270

  I installed Xubuntu 12.10 on an Aspire One D270 using a Live USB. Initially, the live USB wouldn't boot, but by running sudo apt-get dist-upgrade on it (on a different machine), I upgraded the kernel and it now works perfectly. However, after installing Xubuntu from the stick onto the D270, neither the touchpad nor an external mouse works. If I use the keyboard to navigate to the mouse settings, the 'device' setting is greyed out. I don't see why the mouse should work perfectly when running from the live USB but not once installed to the machine...? Thanks for any help.

• Can I install ubuntu on usb hdd without loosing data on it?

  I have live-usb stick that I can boot latest live Ubuntu from. Then I have 160GB external WD hdd with few GB free of space. My notebook can't have any internal hdd so I was wondering if I can use my external one to install and boot Ubuntu and install new programs, save settings etc. without loosing (or moving around) any data on this external hdd. The best would be if I can somehow use the live-usb. I'm traveling so any "complicated" solution might be bit hard to implement. I do have an access to the Internet.

• Making dummy applications while not involved in LIVE work [closed]

  I know this is subjective but I am looking for some real time helpful points/advice here, which will be helpful for some to get motivated. In our company so many people are on bench(not assigned with real time work) and they do not want to experiment things by their own. What would be a good motivation for them to keep their learning spirit? I personally feel that one can learn and give more effort in live client work than regular practicing things and making dummies. Am I right here or it is just my thinking only?
