• Zabbix Trigger for SELinux (type=AVC) Errors

  I would like to create a trigger in Zabbix to alert me anytime a type=AVC error appears in a CentOS 6 server's /var/log/audit/audit.log file. I've already tried creating a basic log scrape. E.g.: log[/var/log/audit/audit.log,type=AVC,"UTF-8",100] However, it does not work. I believe this is due to the /var/log/audit/audit.log and it's parent folder using the following permissions: drwxr-x---. 2 root root 4096 Apr 20 04:29 . drwxr-xr-x. 13 root root 4096 Apr 14 12:07 .. -rw-------. 1 root root 5948185 Apr 20 15:27 audit.log -r--------. 1 root root 6291566 Apr 20 04:29 audit.log.1 -r--------. 1 root root 6291704 Apr 19 16:56 audit.log.2 -r--------. 1 root root 6291499 Apr 19 05:22 audit.log.3 -r--------. 1 root root 6291552 Apr 18 17:48 audit.log.4 I would prefer not to change the permissions for security reasons. • Diagnosing Microsoft SQL Server error 9001: The log for the database is not available.

  Over the weekend a website I run stopped functioning, recording the following error in the Event Viewer each time a request is made to the website: Event ID: 9001 The log for database 'database name' is not available. Check the event log for related error messages. Resolve any errors and restart the database. The website is hosted on a dedicated server, so I am able to RDP into the server and poke around. The LDF file for the database exists in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA folder, but attempting to do any work with the database from Management Studio results in a dialog box reporting the same error - 9001: The log for database is not available... This is the first time I've received this error, and I've been hosting this site (and others) on this dedicated web server for over two years now. It is my understanding that this error indicates a corrupt log file. I was able to get the website back online by Detaching the database and then restoring a backup from a couple days ago, but my concern is that this error is indicative of a more sinister problem, namely a hard drive failure. I emailed support at the web hosting company and this was their reply: There doesn't appear to be any other indications of the cause in the Event Log, so it's possible that the log was corrupted. Currently the memory's resources is at 87%, which also may have an impact but is unlikely. Can the log just "become corrupted?" My question: What are the next steps I should take to diagnose this problem? How can I determine if this is, indeed, a hardware problem? And if it is, are there any options beyond replacing the disk? Cons: SEO implications of such a solution due to the mass 'low quality' and 'cross-sites duplicate content' Make them all redirect to ONE same generic log-in page.   I would like to disable 404 errors from appearing in my Apache error logs. The reason for this is that I have a custom page that handles 404 errors, performing any necessary redirects. If no valid redirect is found in this 404 page, then a nice page appears and the url and other information are logged by the script. Because of this, I do not need 404 errors in my Apache error log. Is there any way to just disable 404s short of doing a custom pipe?

  I'm currently having some assembly binding problems on our development server. I want to investigate the problem a bit further with Fusion Log Viewer. Since there is no Visual Studio installed on the machine, I copied FUSLOGVW.EXE to a local folder and started it there. Is this supposed to work or does it need something else?   I have a 4MB log file from the Windows XP firewall which I'm trying to find lines that have both DROP and an IP and a port number. My regex-fu is weak and I'm assuming this is the reason I'm struggling. The words "DROP", "10.1.1.1" (for example) and "8801" need to be found on the same line and may be spread across the line and separated by one or more other words. Any help (or suggestions of another method to do this) are much appreciated.

  Smashed my head against this a bit too long. How do I prevent a user from browsing a site's pages after they have been logged out using FormsAuthentication.SignOut? I would expect this to do it: FormsAuthentication.SignOut(); Session.Abandon(); FormsAuthentication.RedirectToLoginPage(); But it doesn't. If I type in a URL directly, I can still browse to the page. I haven't used roll-your-own security in a while so I forget why this doesn't work.

  I'd like to get FastMM memory leak report that shows up on app shutdown, but in a file instead of the dialog box. The idea is to use it in a release build as I have trouble reproducing the leaks.   We have a requirement, wherein the administrative user needs to proxy in as a certain user in an environment where several users (Role: User) are managed by an administrator (Role: Admin). e.g If we have the following users in the database (admin, user1, user2, user3), we would want the admin to proxy as 'user2' and use the system in certain scenarios. Authentication in our web application is based username / password credentials, what mechanisms are available for the admin to proxy as 'user2' when he doesn't have the password for 'user2'. How can the application track such access for audit purposes to mention that 'admin' had proxied for 'user2' and performed certain actions. I am looking for suggestions on supporting this in our j2ee (jboss seam) web application.

• How to log with Ruby and eventmachine?

  I'm writing an application using Ruby and the Eventmachine library. I really like the idea of non blocking I/O and event driven systems, the problem I'm running into is logging. I'm using Ruby's standard logger library. Its not that logging takes forever but it seems like something that shouldn't block and it does. Is there a library out there somewhere that extends Ruby's standard logger implementation to be non-blocking or should I just call EM::defer for my logging calls? Is there a way I can make eventmachine do this for me already?

• How to log into a salesforce.com sandbox?

  I took over a Rails app and am trying to get the Salesforce.com API credentials set up for my user account. I'm set as a system admin with "Developer Mode" on (though I have no clue what that does, I just saw it set on the previous account.) We have a sandbox. I click the login link on it, enter my sandbox username ([email protected]), enter my password, and get "Login attempt has failed". I know my password is okay since I've logged into the production site several times. Using different domains (test.salesforce.com, etc) doesn't help either.
