  • Is there a way to sync (two way) tables betwen a mysql server and a local MS Access?

    Help me figure out a solution to a (not so unique) problem. My research group has gps devices attached to migratory animals. Every once in a while, a research tech will be within range of an animal and will get the chance to download all the logged points. Each individual spits out a single dbf and new locations are just appended to the end (so the file is just cumulative). These data need to be shared among a research group. Everyone else (besides me) wants to use access, so they can make small edits and prefer that interface. They do not like using MySQL. The solution I came up with is: a) The person who downloads the file goes to a web page, enters animal ID into a form, chooses .dbf file and uploads to a mysql database on the server (I still have to write php code to read the dbf and write sql insert statements from it). b) Everyone syncs from their local access database to the server. (This is natively possible from access but very clunky). Is there a tool (preferably open source), that can compare a access table to mysql table and sync the two (both ways)? Alternatively, does anyone have a more elegant solution? The ultimate goal is to allow everyone to have access to the most current data on their computers using their preferred database app.

  • Battery is drained too quickly

    I'm getting really low battery life under ubuntu, not even close to windows. I tried powertop, and I saw that my laptop is consuming in idle nearly 20 watts (a bit more). I tried to install laptop-mode-tools, change "good" into "bad" in powertop, but nothing changes. I see that I have the the HD audio output device which is running at 100% every time. Could this be the problem? This is a report from powertop.   • Word Spell Check pops up hidden and "freezes" my App

    I am using Word's Spell Check in my in house WinForm app. My clients are all XP machines with Office 2007 and randomly the spell check suggestion box pops up behind the App and makes everything "appear" frozen as you cannot get at it. Suggestions? What do other people do to work around this or stop it altogether? I have one share definition for 3 client (A,B,C) This share contain some excel file which having a lot of formula and linked each other. Client A access the file with libre office (ubuntu), client B access with WinXP & MS Office 2003, The write and read process working successfuly on Both of them. The problem occur when client C accessing the same file with MS Excel 2003 (windows xp). This messagebox appear when he saving the file : Microsoft office excel cannot access the \\192.168.1.23\myshare\ There are several possible reasons: - The File ort path does not exist The file is being used by another program. - The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a - Currently open workbooks.   • Install MS Office on Windows Server 2008 - in support of Quickbooks RemoteApp

    How can I install MS Office on Windows Server 2008? The purpose would be to enable Quickbooks to be able to export to Excel. Quickbooks is set up to run as a RemoteApp in a Terminal Server environment. The Quickbooks applicaiton senses whether or not Excel is installed and will not allow the user to create an Excel report unless Excel is actually installed on the client running Quickbooks. Since the client and the server are the same machine in a Terminal Server environment, Excel must be installed on Windows Server for the Quickbooks Excel exporting feature to work in this setup. There is no need to actually use Excel in a Terminal Services environment. We only need to generate the Excel files using the server, then we can use an installed version Excel on a regular Windows 7 machine to work with the Excel file. MS Office does not normally install on Windows Server. Is there any way to buy a special license? Could we somehow fool Quickbooks into thinking Excel is installed, if that would work?

  • How do i play nicely with MS SQL/SQL Server 2008

    Big problem. I have nearly given up. I am trying to port my prototype to use MS SQL so it will work on a server once i get it (the server will be SQL Server 2008, shared, i dont know any more info). So i tried to connect to SQL Server via visual studios IDE and had no luck. I enabled TCP and named pipes and restarted the service (and computer) with still no luck. I remembered about mdf files so i made that after an obstacle of not being able to make the connect string require i figure out visual studio has it in its properties and successfully connected with that. Then i had a problem with nested transactions. After not being able to figure out how to check i wondered if i can configure it to allow it somehow. I always thought all of MS were the same except for limitations but sql server seems to support nested transactions so theres no point trying to work around the problem with .mdf files since i wont need them and really just used it to port the base of my sql code and to check if syntax is correct. I tried installing SQL Server Management Studio since people mentioned it several times (as a solution or at least help). When installing it on windows 7 it says it may not be compatible. After running it, it launched SQL Server Installation Center (64-bit) which doesnt seem to be the same thing as i dont see a way to modify any of my server (networking) configurations or edit user permissions, etc. I am clueless what to do next. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm posting here bc i think my problem is more configurations and sql server then programming.

  • Graphic Design in Outlook HTML Emails

    At the moment we are creating artwork in Word and saving it as an HTML file. Opening up a new email, clicking insert on menuclicking ‘File’Selecting HTML file and choosing insert as text. The word document is then embedded into the email and we can create HTML links from there. The problem with this method is we are limited to what we can create visually in Word. The artwork just does not look professional enough and we find that sometimes the headers or footers do not appear or do not stay in their correct position. What I would like to do is to be able to start in Adobe InDesign (the graphics package we use). So far I have been able to create artwork in InDesign and create buttons and hyperlinks in InDesignExport it as a pdf, maintaining the hyperlinksSave as HTML documentOpen new emailInsert HTML file choosing insert as text. The problem with this method is that the images move about, the text is all different sizes, but on the plus side, the hyperlinks have been retained. So I am almost there, but not quite. Can anyone suggest what I need to do to get the design to display 'correctly' in Outlook.

I need to fill each TAB with Spaces, so that the justification not be confused. If I use 'Find & Replace' option to change each TABs to a specific number of Spaces, justification will be confused because each column have its own character number. In other word, if I change each TAB with 6 Spaces, the above will be changed to the follow: 1 222 3 111 2 333 11 22 33 11 2222 3333 My need is as follow (each dot indicate a Space): 1......222......3 111....2........333 11.....22.......33 11.....2222.....3333

Again, the restriction should be for 35 characters but need space for total 37 (Just for the Visibility issue.)

    Getting the following error when trying to open a word document with macros to fill in the form fields: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Security\AccessVBOM. The user opening the word document does not have admin rights and the AccessVBOM flag is either not available or set to zero. I can set the flag for the HKCU (Current user) programmaticallybut cannot change setting for inunder HKLM . Please advise how can we enable the trust for the VBA project programmatically. Thx Kumar

    ok, So First off yes i have read all the related topics and those fixs are either out of date or dont work. i am running ubuntu 12.04 and i would like to add it to the win2008 server network, after i get that done i would like to mount the F:\ drive of the server somewhere on my linux machine where it can be identified as Drive F:\ by wine or Dosemu if i can achieve all of that i need to find out how to run a MS-Dos 16-bit Point-of-sales Graphic program in ubuntu whether that be through wine, dosemu, or dosBox. it does not matter it just has to be able to read and write to the servers F: drive, operate the dos app, and support LPt1 (i think) for printing reciepts and loading tickets. i am a decently knowledgeable windows tech, at least thats what my job description says.. but this is my first encounter with linux in a work environment, it could prove to very experience changing if i can just prove it as a practical theory and a reasonable solution, and get it to work.. the first step is to get it joined to the domain. i have likewise-open CLI and GUI versions, samba, and GADMIN-SAMBA installed in attempts to get any of them to work. any help in any area is greatly appreciated, especially with the domain joining since it is the first step and what i thought would be the easiest step..

Could you please suggest me any other alogrithm/tool which is language independent which could achieve Statistical word alignment for parallel English Hindi Corpora and its Evaluation, some tools languages are best for certain languages.. Could one please tell me how true is that and if so could you please give me an example what would suite better for Asian languages like Hindi and what shouldn't I use for such languages.     I'm looking for some options to programmatically create a Word document from within a Silverlight 4 application. I found two approaches which seemed promising at first but don't look like they will work. OpenXML SDK The OpenXML SDK isn't available for Silverlight at this time. Word Automation via COM Interop dynamic wordApplication = AutomationFactory.CreateObject("Word.Application"); Apparently this requires that the Silverlight 4 application be granted permission to run with elevated privileges, which is only available for out-of-browser applications (which ours isn't) My other thought is to hand off the request to a back-end service which doesn't have these limitations. Wanted to check for any ideas before going down that path. Thank you!

    Hello, actually i use this method to show similar words for a search request.. $query = "SELECT * FROM searches WHERE Query LIKE '%$search%' ORDER BY Query"; if someone searches for "nelly" it looks up in the database for similar words "nelly furtado, nelly ft. kelly"... but i dont want to show up the searched word.. example: you've searched for nelly - try this too: nelly, nelly furtado, nelly ft., the bold word should not showed up again, because it's the searched word.. is there maybe a method with MATCH AGAINST? thank you!
