  • after installing monit when i do monit status myproc i get "error connecting to the monit daemon"

    - by Jason
after installing monit when i do monit status myproc i get "error connecting to the monit daemon" I read somewhere that The status command won't work in the case that monit is running indaemon mode without its http support - the command 'monit status' in such case tries to get the status from the daemon via http/tcp. To start the http interface you need to add the 'set httpd ...' statement to theconfiguration. is that still correct? that post was from 2005

  • Software available for singing "lessons" via computer microphone?

    - by drozzy
Looking for a software to help my friend learn to sing. Can't seem to find anything on googles. Does there exist software (preferably downloadable and from this century!) that records one's voice and then analyzes it to see how "accurate" it was. It would be great if it also had some kind of "lessons" of some sort, and not simply sound recorder that shows waveforms. I can't imagine it would be so hard to implement, and there probably is one out there - I just can't find it. Any recommendations are welcome. Thanks.

  • What tool can record multiple parallel stream to files of defined size?

    - by Hauke
I would like to record record multiple audio web streams like this one in parallel to an mp3 or wma file for a duration of several days. I would like to be able to limit the file size or the duration stored in each file. The tool can be for any operating system. I do not need anything fancy like song recognition, metadata or silence detection. I haven't been able to find such a piece of software so far. Example: Tap channel "News" results in: News-090902-0000-0100.mp3, News-090902-0100-0200.mp3, etc... Who knows what tool can do this? It can be commercial software. • Need a good mp3/internet radio organization system...

    - by Zombies
So I feel that winamp alone doesn't work well for me. I have this one playlist that all kinds of stuff gets crammed into. I need a system (this can easily be 1 program or several): Need to be able to... play mp3's from my library (just a directory structure with mp3's). Save radio station's, and easily remove/add new stations play random mp3's which are not part of my library and will probably be deleted in the future, yet won't clutter my library index!

  • What is the current state of development for the FLAC codec?

    - by TwentyMiles
I have a pretty large collection of FLAC files created from my CD collection. I love the FLAC format and the sound quality that you can get from it. Lately, however, I've been trying to write a few tools to manipulate the files and I've been noticing what seems to be a stagnation of the community around the codec. Some of the links on the official FLAC page point to thing that are no longer relevant (7digital, for example, appears to no longer sell FLAC encoded songs). It's pretty hard to find hardware players that support FLAC any more (most noticeably it's not present on lower end players when it used to be, and playback is absent on Android). Programming language tools (Java and .NET libraries) are at best old, and at worst unfinished. What's the current state of FLAC development? Has it been replaced by another codec?

  • Search audio file for pattern?

    - by Mark
I want to split a very large audio file at certain points. At certain points a radio announcer comes on and says something like "deux radio" and it always sounds exactly the same (it's a recorded clip). So how can I find that bit of repeated audio through out the entire mp3? It would be nice if I could split at that point, but even if it spits out the times, I can split it with another program.

  • Audio recording, a tool for human-aided drum quantizing.

    - by basilio.mp
I have this situation: the drummer records the track (8 tracks in a multitrack session). Now, how do I check how distant are the recorded beats from their theoretical position i.e.: there is always some error in human recorded tracks, but is there any software that can show me the ideal (theoretical, quantized) beat and the recorded one and could alert me if the error is too big. P.S.: I'm searching for a standalone tool, or for a plugin that can work with Adobe Audition 3 or Nuendo 3.

  • Retuning voice in full song so that singer is on-tune

    - by Dan W
I have some potentially great songs which are spoilt by singers who sing out of tune. Is there any easy to use (and hopefully cheap) software that 'corrects' the song so that they're not off-tune anymore? I don't mind too much if the backing is somewhat affected too, if the state-of-the-art isn't quite there yet. I've heard of auto-tune of course, but as far as I know, that's before the song is put together (i.e. the singer's voice as an individual track, before it's mixed with the backing).

  • Zune Keyboard Shortcuts

    - by Pulkit Sinha
Does anyone know what keyboard shortcuts work with the latest Zune Desktop software (I believe it is v4.7)? I am particularly interested in something which helps in navigation and search. Also, I've noticed that if I select the leftmost column (Artists/Genres only) and start typing I get a kind of instant search. Does anyone know if - there is a way to invoke this without selecting the first column use it with the album and song view

  • Audio splitting and noise removal on Windows

    - by pts
My mother has about 100 hours of audio in a mix of MP3 and WAV files, the digitized versions of her vinyl records. Each file contains about 5 songs with a few seconds of (noisy) pause between them. My mother needs software for Windows XP with which she can listen to the files, find the gaps manually, split the files at the gaps found, reduce noise on each song, and export the songs to individual MP3 files. My mother has very limited software user skills and affinity, and she doesn't speak English. The simpler the software, the better for her, even if noise reduction is worse than with a more sophisticated, but more complicated software. I'd prefer free software, freeware or shareware (which can do all above). Please recommend something much simpler than Audacity. The software should guide the user through the process, always showing the next few available steps, and being intuitive in the sense that there are only a few allowed actions and it's obvious what they are and how to activate them. Which software would you recommend?

  • how do I start GIT daemon automatically under CentOS 4.8 ?

    - by ck2
Apparently my server is running CentOS 4.8 with Cpanel uname -a 2.6.9-023stab048.6-enterprise #1 SMP MSK 2008 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux cat /etc/redhat-release CentOS release 4.8 (Final) I'd prefer to install it as a service but I cannot seem to install "yum git-daemon" there is no package available for CentOS 4.8 (when I try to include another repos for it I get too many dependency failures) So what's the easiest way to just start it? Typically this is how I do it from CLI git daemon --detach --user=git --group=git Thanks for any help!

  • Indexing Service filter daemon keeps crashing on Windows XP; something worse underneath?

    - by IVR Avenger
The Indexing Service filter daemon keeps crashing on my Windows XP Pro machine, with the following error message: Indexing Service filter daemon has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Not a big deal, I can click "Don't Send Error Report" all day. But what's going on, here? Is this a service that I need? Is the frequent crashing indicative of something worse that's happening behind the scenes?

  • Control iTunes from Spotlight (or similar)

    - by joshhunt
Is there some sort add on or program that lets me easily change (and choose) songs using keyboard shortcuts (or perhaps Spotlight)? The ideal program would add iTunes indexing to Spotlight and allow me to change songs by searching for them in Spotlight (but then not switch the focus to iTunes). I do believe that there was a plugin for Launchy on Windows to do a similar thing. Is such a program available?

  • DAW with realtime pitchshifting

    - by monov
I'm very happy with Renoise but it has a problem, it can't do realtime pitchshifting. For example, consider a breakbreat which I want to trigger at different pitches sometimes. Like I keep 'Q' pressed for a 'C' pitch, but then I press 'B' for a lower pitch. In Renoise the resulting beat is not only lower pitch, but also longer/slower. I want it to be the same speed, just a different pitch. I've been doing this externally in Audacity, then keeping a couple of different pitched versions in Renoise but that's tedious. Or consider a melodic segment snipped from a song into a sample. Say I want to play it simultaneously in its real pitch and 5 semitones higher, so it forms a sort of chord effect. Again, no easy way to do this in renoise. Is there a DAW app that does that kind of thing? I've heard of ableton live, it has 'live' in the name so maybe it can do it?

  • Is there any way to kill a zombie process without reboot?

    - by Pedram
Is there any way to kill a zombie process without reboot? Here is how it happens: I wanted to download a 12GB torrent. After adding the .torrent file, transmission turned into a zombie process.I tried ktorrent too.Same behavior. Finally I could download the file using µTorrent but after closing the program, it turns into a zombie as well. I tried using kill skill and pkill with different options and -9 signal but no success. In some answers in web I found out killing the parent can kill the zombie, but killing wine didn't help either. Is there another way? • Is there a way to add an MP3 player to my website so that iPhone & iPad users can use it.

    - by codingguy3000
I have a website www.askvioletnow.com. I added a flash mp3 player that plays a sound clip when you go to the page. I know Flash doesn't work on the iPhone OS, but is there a way to get this type of mp3 player to work on an iPhone? I'm thinking maybe a javascript mp3 player. What I would ultimately want is to replace my flash mp3 player with a different mp3 player and have it so the player is available on Windows and Mac computers as well as iPhone devices. Thanks in advance.
