• python/pip error on osx

  I've recently purchased a new hard drive and installed a clean copy of OS X Mavericks. I installed python using homebrew and i need to create a python virtual environment. But when ever i try to run any command using pip, I get this error. I haven't been able to find a solution online for this problem. Any reference would be appreciated. Here is the error I'm getting.   Disk Utility in OSX easily mounts an SD Card image as a device, but not so the other img files. I want to get the database I just created in the Android Emulator off the drive and into my osx file system. I updated my system with qemu using macports but no combination I try succeeds. Anyone figured out how to do this? Obviously one way I can do this is run the app on my phone than mount the phone as a USB drive. But I don't wanna. I wanna get it off the drive the emulator uses :-) Thanks in advance, folks. Michael

If i am to use CoreServices framework to work with files (FSRef, Forks, URLs, etc.) will i be able to get a raw BSD file descriptor (plain int)? If yes, then how can i do that?   For what I've read I need Python-Dev, how do I install it on OSX? I think the problem I have, is, my Xcode was not properly installed, and I don't have the paths where I should.   I'm having a hardtime trying to install pyactivemq (link) on my osx leopard. Following a tutorial (in portuguese) on compiling it ends up ok, but when I run the tests i receive only a crypt message: "Fatal Python error: Interpreter not initialized (version mismatch?)" There is not much information on the web about using pyactivemq on osx, but what I could find is that is something related to wrong linking when boost compiles. I'm running: Mac OS 10.5.8 MacPorts 1.8.2 APR 1.3.9 Xcode 3.1.4 Boost 1.41.0 (installing for python 2.5) Activemq-cpp 2.2.6 pyactivemq 0.1.0 If someone has any info on this it would be helpful

  Assuming that free space advice for ZEVO will not differ from advice for other modern implementations of ZFS … Question Please, what percentages or amounts of free space are advisable for hard disk drives of the following sizes? 640 GB 2 TB Thoughts A standard answer for modern implementations of ZFS might be "no more than 96 percent full". However if apply that to (say) a single-disk 640 GB dataset where some of the files most commonly used (by VirtualBox) are larger than 15 GB each, then I guess that blocks for those files will become sub optimally spread across the platters with around 26 GB free. I read that in most cases, fragmentation and defragmentation should not be a concern with ZFS. Sill, I like the mental picture of most fragments of a large .vdi in reasonably close proximity to each other. (Do features of ZFS make that wish for proximity too old-fashioned?) Side note: there might arise the question of how to optimise performance after a threshold is 'broken'. If it arises, I'll keep it separate. Background On a 640 GB StoreJet Transcend (product ID 0x2329) in the past I probably went beyond an advisable threshold. Currently the largest file is around 17 GB –  – and I doubt that any .vdi or other file on this disk will grow beyond 40 GB. (Ignore the purple masses, those are bundles of 8 MB band files.) Without HFS Plus: the thresholds of twenty, ten and five percent that I associate with Mobile Time Machine file system need not apply. I currently use ZEVO Community Edition 1.1.1 with Mountain Lion, OS X 10.8.2, but I'd like answers to be not too version-specific. The most important thing is: we increased the threshold at which we switched from 'first fit' (go fast) to 'best fit' (pack tight) from 70% full to 96% full. With TB drives, each slab is at least 5GB and 4% is still 200MB plenty of space and no need to do anything radical before that. This gave us the biggest bang. Second, instead of trying to reuse the same primary slabs until it failed an allocation we decided to stop giving the primary slab this preferential threatment as soon as the biggest allocation that could be satisfied by a slab was down to 128K (metaslab_df_alloc_threshold). At that point we were ready to switch to another slab that had more free space. We also decided to reduce the SMO bonus. Before, a slab that was 50% empty was preferred over slabs that had never been used. In order to foster more write aggregation, we reduced the threshold to 33% empty. This means that a random write workload now spread to more slabs where each one will have larger amount of free space leading to more write aggregation. Finally we also saw that slab loading was contributing to lower performance and implemented a slab prefetch mechanism to reduce down time associated with that operation. • Persistent static routes fail on MacOS 10.6.5 startup!

  I'm unable to get static routes to persist a reboot on Mac OS 10.6.5. I've tried all of the methods prescribed in Google search results, and previous posts on this site. I've tried manually creating a launchd daemon, and used RouteSplit's launchd daemon to no avail. It's clear that the interface is not ready when these methods attempt to apply the route. This workstation in question is getting its IP from DHCP and probably hasn't gotten its DHCP lease when the command runs. We're able to apply the route by hand when logged in, but not through startup methods. Is there another way to apply this route by sneaking the command into something later, but before the login window appears to the user? Here is some relevant log info from system.log. You can see the "route: writing to routing socket: Network is unreachable" errors where my launchd script fires off. I've tried adding extra "sleep" and "ipconfig waitall" statements later in the script but this doesn't fly.   Hi, We upgraded to Mac OS X 10.5.3 and getting problem when uploading files (PUT) to a webdav server (the server is Apache running on a Windows environment). When we drag and drop on to a webdav folder using Finder we get a -36 error. When looking at the stack trace of the web server the problem is due to INVALID CRLF or some times getting the following error. Both the stack point to error when copying the stream. • Persistent static routes fail on MacOS 10.6.5 startup!

  I'm unable to get static routes to persist a reboot on Mac OS 10.6.5. I've tried all of the methods prescribed in Google search results, and previous posts on this site. I've tried manually creating a launchd daemon, and used RouteSplit's launchd daemon to no avail. It's clear that the interface is not ready when these methods attempt to apply the route. This workstation in question is getting its IP from DHCP and probably hasn't gotten its DHCP lease when the command runs. We're able to apply the route by hand when logged in, but not through startup methods. Is there another way to apply this route by sneaking the command into something later, but before the login window appears to the user? Here is some relevant log info from system.log. You can see the "route: writing to routing socket: Network is unreachable" errors where my launchd script fires off. I've tried adding extra "sleep" and "ipconfig waitall" statements later in the script but this doesn't fly. • Mac OS X 10.8 VPN Server: Bypass VPN for LAN traffic (routing LAN traffic to secondary connection)

  I have somewhat of an odd setup for a VPN server with OS X Mountain Lion. It's essentially being used as a bridge to bypass my company's firewall to our extranet connection - certain things our team needs to do require unfettered access to the outside, and changing IT policies to allow traffic through the main firewall is just not an option. The extranet connection is provided through a Wireless-N router (let's call it Wi-Fi X). My Mac Mini server is configured with the connection to this router as the primary connection, thus unfettered access to the internet via the router. Connections to this device on the immediate subnet are possible through the LAN port, but outside the subnet things are less reliable. I was able to configure the VPN server to provide IP addresses to clients in the 192.168.11.150-192.168.11.200 range using both PPTP and L2TP, and I'm able to connect to the extranet through the VPN using the standard Mac OS X VPN client in System Preferences, however unsurprisingly, a local address (let's call it internal.company.com) returns nothing. I tried to bypass the limitation of the VPN Server by setting up Routes in the VPN settings. Our company uses 13.x.x.x for all internal traffic, instead of 10.x.x.x, so the routing table looked something like this: IP Address ---------- Subnet Mask ---------- Configuration 0.0.0.0 248.0.0.0 Private 8.0.0.0 252.0.0.0 Private 12.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 Private 13.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 Public 14.0.0.0 254.0.0.0 Private 16.0.0.0 240.0.0.0 Private 32.0.0.0 224.0.0.0 Private 64.0.0.0 192.0.0.0 Private 128.0.0.0 128.0.0.0 Private I was under the impression that if nothing was entered here, all traffic was routed through the VPN. With something entered, only traffic specifically marked to go through the VPN would go through the VPN, and all other traffic would be up to the client to access using its own default connection. This is why I had to specifically mark every subnet except 13.x.x.x as Private. My suspicion is that since I can't reach the VPN server from outside the local subnet, it's not making a connection to the main DNS server and thus can't be reached on the larger network. I'm thinking that entering hostnames like internal.company.com aren't kicked back to the client to resolve, because the server has no idea that the IP address falls in the public range, since I suspect (probably should ping test it but don't have access to it right now) that it can't reach the DNS server to find out anything about that hostname. It seems to me that all my options for resolving this all boil down to the same type of solution: Figure out how to reach the DNS with the secondary connection on the server. I'm thinking that if I'm able to do [something] to get my server to recognize that it should also check my local gateway (let's say Server IP == 13.100.100.50 and Gateway IP == 13.100.100.1). From there Gateway IP can tell me to go find DNS Server at 13.1.1.1 and give me information about my internal network. I'm very confused about this path -- really not sure if I'm even making sense. I thought about trying to do this client side, but that doesn't make sense either, since that would add time to each and every client side setup. Plus, it just seems more logical to solve it on the server - I could either get rid of my routing table altogether or keep it - I think the only difference would be that internal traffic would also go through the server - probably an unnecessary burden on it. Any help out there? Or am I in over my head? Forward proxy or transparent proxy is also an option for me, although I have no idea how to set either of those up. (I know, Google is my friend.)

  I'm getting a formatting problem if I use more than 10 UNION ALL statements in my VBA Code. If I use 10 or less everything works great. What I'm trying to do is combine 12 worksheets (Excel 2007). I have a numerical column called SC that turns into string and date if I have more than 10 UNION ALL. If I try to use ROUND with more than 10 UNION ALL my last selection will change all the records by one unit. I'm using Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0 as my provider and my connection string has worked for several things in my code so far. Is there any limit for UNION ALL statements when using OLEDB? • I'm trying to install psycopg2 onto Mac OS 10.6.3; it claims it can't find "stdarg.h" but I can see

  I'm desperately trying to successfully install psycopg2 but keep running into errors. The latest one seems to involve it not being to find "stdarg.h" (see code below). However I can see with my own eyes that a file called stdarg.h exists at /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.4u.sdk/usr/include/stdarg.h (where it claims it can't find anything) so I've no idea what to do about it. I'm running Mac OS 10.6.3 and within the last few days I've made sure I have all the latest OS developer tools.   Hi, I am trying to reference microsoft reporting v.10.0.0.0 in my vs studio web site. For some reason it can't achieve that as it is always giving me a compile error that it could not load the type. Error 2625 Could not load type 'Microsoft.Reporting.RdlBuildProvider' from assembly 'Microsoft.ReportViewer.Common, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' One thing that I think it might be a cause is that I had moved from 9.0.0.0 to 10.0.0.0 and after that it does not work.   Are there any important change in how SLES 10 implements Tcp sockets vs. SLES 9? I have several apps written in C# (.NET 3.5) that run on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. They've been running fine for over a year, getting market data from a SLES 9 machine using a socket connection. The machine was upgraded today to SLES 10 and its causing some strange behavior. The socket normally returns a few hundred or thousand bytes every second. But occasionally, I stop receiving data. Ten or more seconds will go by with no data and then Receive returns with a 10k+ bytes. And some buffer is causing data loss because the bytes I receive on the socket no longer make a correct packet. The only thing changed was the SLES 9 to 10 upgrade. And rolling back fixes this immediately. Any ideas?

• DataType for storing a long serial number (10 bytes)

  We have a device which has a 10 byte serial number which must be read into our application and stored into a .net datatype. In the device it is stored as an unsigned 10-byte (80-bit) number. I don't expect we will be performing any mathematical operations on this number, but only displaying it to the user. The .NET framework doesn't have a built in UNIT128 to store this datatype. My suggestion for storing this datatype is to create a 10 element byte array and read in the data into this array. Are there any better solutions to this problem? Note: I have seen in this question that a GUID is a 128 byte signed integer, but it seems like a bad idea to use a GUID in this fashion. Any other suggestions?

  I want to perform a sort_by_key where I have a single key-sequence and multiple value sequences. One usually performs this with sort_by_key( key, key + N, make_zip_iterator( make_tuple(x1 , x2 , ...) ) ) However I want to perform a sort with 10 sequences each of length N. Thrust does not support tuples of size = 10. So is there a way around this ? Of course one can keep a separate copy of the key vector and perform sorts on bunches of 10 sequences. But I would like to do everything in a single call.

  When researching for this question and reading the sourcecode in random.py, I started wondering whether randrange and randint really behave as "advertised". I am very much inclined to believe so, but the way I read it, randrange is essentially implemented as start + int(random.random()*(stop-start)) (assuming integer values for start and stop), so randrange(1, 10) should return a random number between 1 and 9. randint(start, stop) is calling randrange(start, stop+1), thereby returning a number between 1 and 10. My question is now: If random() were ever to return 1.0, then randint(1,10) would return 11, wouldn't it?
