Details of the exception: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a conne ction to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Serve r/Instance Specified) Unable to connect to SQL Server database. I am able to connect to Sql Server using Management Studio.

• Replacement for deprecated SQL Server User Defined Type with a bound Rule and Default

  We have a User Defined Data Type of YesNo which has an which is an alias for char(1). The type has a bound Rule (must be Y or N) and a Default (N). The aim of this is that when any of the development team create a new field of type YesNo the rule and default are automatically bound to the new column. Rules and Defaults have been deprecated and won't be available in the next a future version of SQL Server, is there another way to achieve the same functionality? I should add that I'm aware that I could use CHECK and DEFAULT constraints to replicate the functionality of the bound Rule and Defalut objects, however these would have to be applied at each usage of the type, rather than getting the functionality 'for free' by using a UDT which has a bound Rule and Default. The post relates to a database that backs an existing application, rather than a new development, so I'm aware that our use of UDT's is less than optimal. I suspect the answer to the question is 'No', however normally when features are deprecated there's usually an alternative syntax that can be used as a drop in replacement so I wanted to pose the question in-case someone knew of an alternative.

  I have my Ubuntu Server set up so users with the group of sftponly can connect with sftp, but have a shell of /bin/false, and they connect to their home directories. This is working fine with three of the user accounts I have. • Issues configuring CUPS print server for Ubuntu Server 9.10

  I have a 9.10 Ubuntu Server installed and I want to make it a print server and am trying to get access to the cups browser admin page from a windows client machine. I installed cups: sudo apt-get install cups then I edited the /etc/cups/cupsd.conf file and tried several different listen cominbations: Listen 192.168.1.109:631 #ip my router gives it3 Listen /var/run/cups/cups.sock #already in conf file Listen fileserver:631 #hostname of server Port 631 #listen for all incoming requests on 631? samba is also installed (which I think is necessary to share the printer out? and finally I added my user to the lpadmin group: sudo adduser tone lpadmin but when I try to navigate any of the following I get 403 forbidden http://fileserver:631/admin http://fileserver:631 http://192.168.1.109:631/admin http://192.168.1.109:631 What did I miss?

• Enabling Session Directory under Terminal Server Configuration Tool and Server Settings

  Yello, I'm trying to add up a Terminal Server Session Directory client to an already fully functional Session Directory cluster which today runs two clients as well as the server. I've been reading up on both Google, Microsoft KB's as well as old documentation from an earlier employee but to no avail. The step I'm stuck at is when I open up Terminal Server Configuration Tool (tscc.msc), chooses ServerSettings. I know there should be an option saying "Session Directory" on the right hand side along with Active Desktop, Licensing and whatnot, but it's not there. I've logged on to both the other already functional clients and checked the same list and there the Session Directory option sure is both visible as well as working good with the specified information. This picture is the same view that I'm looking at at the moment, but mine is missing the bottom option that says "Session Directory" http://www.inetnj.com/doc/images/TerminalServerConfiguration.jpg Any help would be greatly appriciated. • SQL Server Installer Closes Silently Without Errors

  When I run the SQL Server 2008 R2 Express installer (32-bit or 64-bit), nothing happens. It will get to the screen where it asks me to accept the terms of license and send anonymous feedback; I check off both boxes and click Next, and it automatically starts installing the Support Files. And then the window disappears. I tried looking through the log files, but didn't see any errors. I've tried: x64 SQL Server R2 express x86 SQL Server R2 express X64 SQL Server R2 (full) X64 SQL Server Management Studio Of these, only management studio installed correctly; the two express editions failed silently, and the full version gave me different errors. I also tried running in Administrator mode (despite being logged in as an administrator user), but again, no difference.

• SQL Server (2005) Linked Server Issue

  I have SQL Server 2005 with several linked server defined. One of them is a connection to an Oracle server and another one is an ODBC bridge to another server on a remote machine (ODBC server). Recently I tried to use the linked server to Oracle to update data with two large size tables by using several joints. The update query took too long time and finally there was exception thrown: Update O set value = l.value FROM OracleServer..schema.largesizeTable O Join localLargeSizeTable l on .... The problem is that after the exception, I realized that another linked server to ODBC was not working any more. I had to restart SQL server to get the ODBC linked server back. It looks that the linked server pool could be crashed if any of them failed(not like sandbox in Chrome for each tab and no impact on other tabs or Chrome application at all). I am not sure if my assumption is correct or not. Is this a known issue of SQL server 2005?

• TFS SQL Deployment Data Script

  We are using TFS and SQL 2005 (looking to upgrade to SQL 2012 if that makes a difference). We store our database schema in a Visual Studio Database project (VS 2010). When code is released to live we currently use the Visual Studio Database Project to build a script for all our schema changes. The problem we have been getting is having to alter or add to that script to add/fix data for the deployment. For example if we add a new non-nullable column to an existing table we need to populate that column with data during the insert. Other times we may want to create new records in transactional tables (e.g. assign specific users to a new security access). Do Visual Studio Database Projects have a way to store these scripts that only need to be run once and somehow include them in the build? Does it know which scripts need to be run (for example if we are inserting default data we don't want to do that again a second time)? OR Is there a better way to manage these scripts?

  While attempting to do an installation repair of SQL-2008R2, I'm failing the pre-check rules. Module that is failing is AclPermissionsFacet - with this message "The SQL Server registry keys from a prior installation cannot be modified. To continue, see SQL Server Setup documentation about how to fix registry keys." And what there is suggests using subinacl.exe. But after trying it and seeing it is an XP based program, I'm at a loss on how to continue. • "If not exists" fails on SQL CE

  Hi I've got an unexpected problem. I'm making a script to update the schema on a SQL CE database. This won't run: if not exists ( Select column_name from information_schema.columns where column_name = 'TempTestField' and table_name = 'Inventory_Master_File' ) Alter table Inventory_Master_File add TempTestField nvarchar(10) null I think this is because I'm using stuff that isn't supported in SQL CE. Anyone know how to do this? I've tried rearranging the script and can't get anything to work. I tried "alter table ... where not exists ...". Note that the "select" part runs fine and also the "alter" part. The problem is "if not exists". I know there are some other postings regarding problems like this using SQL CE but I couldn't find an answer to this particular problem. Cheers Mark UPDATE: I've spent over an hour looking for a solution. I've found many postings asking for help with similar problems but I've still got no idea how to fix it. I really don't want to do this in C# code. I need to do this in a SQL script. I can't believe something this basic is causing so much difficulty :(

• rsync set group owner, group permission

  I want to use rsync to transfer files from my computer to a remote Linux system. Regardless of the local file's group ownership, I want to set these values on the remote side. If I was on the remote Linux system, I could create the directory and set the ownership and permissions as: mkdir my_directory chown :my_group my_directory chmod 775 my_directory If I create the directory locally and then use rsync (remember, I don't have my_group locally), I do: rsync -ae ssh --chmod=ug+rw,Dug+rwx my_directory remoteserver:dest That works, but I cannot figure out how to set the group owner through rsync. If I do a chmod g+s dest, my_directory has the correct group owner but all of the files inside have the incorrect group owner.

• How to setup Calendar permissions for group to group

  I've been scouring the internet and so far have only been able to find examples of how to grant calendar permissions from one user to another using the Add-MailboxFolderPermission command. This is great and it was okay for when they only had a handful of users. But going forward it's not realistic to have to set individual calendar permissions for all calendars for each new user. Layout of security groups already created. Each group has a few people assigned to it. Techs Managers Admin What I am trying to accomplish is set it up so that anyone that belongs to the Managers group can view the calendars of the Tech group. Admins can view and edit the Tech group. I've found an example of adding just the security group name but I get an error of: [PS] C:\Windows\system32add-MailboxFolderPermission -Identity Techs:\Calendar -User "Admin" -AccessRights Owner The user "Admin" is either not valid SMTP address, or there is no matching information. + CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (0:Int32) [Add-MailboxFolderPermission], InvalidExternalUserIdException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : 39352699,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.StoreTasks.AddMailboxFolderPermission Am I creating groups wrong? • Prevent SQL injection from form-generated SQL - NO PreparedStmts

  Hi all, I have a search table where user will be able to filter results with a filter of the type: Field [Name], Value [John], Remove Rule Field [Surname], Value [Blake], Remove Rule Field [Has Children], Value [Yes], Remove Rule Add Rule So the user will be able to set an arbitrary set of filters, which will result essentially in a completely dynamic WHERE clause. In the future I will also have to implement more complicated logical expressions, like Where (name=John OR name=Nick) AND (surname=Blake OR surname=Bourne), Of all 10 fields the user may or may not filter by, I don't know how many and which filters the user will set. So, I cannot use a prepared statement (which assumes that at least we know the fields in the WHERE clause). This is why prepared statements are unfortunately out of the question, I have to do it with plain old, generated SQL. What measures can I take to protect the application from SQL Injection (REGEX-wise or any other way)?
