• Visual Studio 2005 won't install on Windows 7

  Hi, My question relates very closely to this question: http://superuser.com/questions/34190/visual-studio-2005-sp1-refuses-to-install-in-windows-7 However this question hasn't provided the answer I'm looking for. I'm trying to install Visual Studio 2005 onto a clean Windows 7 (64 bit) box. However I keep getting the following error when the 'Microsoft Visual Studio 2005' component finishes installing ... Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'policy.8.0.Microsoft.VC80.OpenMP,type="win32-policy",version="8.0.50727.42",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="x86",Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x80073712. On my first attempt to install VS 2005 I got a warning about compatibility issues. I stopped at this point, downloaded the necessary service packs and restarted the installation from the beginning. Every since then I just get the error message above. I keep rolling back the installation and trying again ... it's but always the same error. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

• PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library 'C:"\php\php_mysql.dll' - The specified module could not be loaded

  I'm trying to upgrade php 5.4.14 from php 5.4.3 in wamp server 2.2e. I have downloaded php-5.4.14-Win32-VC9-x86 (thread safe). Extracted it under C:\wamp\bin\php. Copied wampserver.conf from C:\wamp\bin\php\php5.4.3 to C:\wamp\bin\php\php5.4.14. Renamed php.ini-development to phpForApache.ini. -The port number the wamp server has been changed in the http.conf file to 8087 from its default 80. This is mentioned here though it is about upgrading from php 5.3.5 to php 5.4.0. After this, Restarting of the wamp server and services all over again has all been done and those two versions appeared in the menu php-versions (which is opened when the icon of the server is clicked). But when I attempt to enable a library like php_mysql or php_mysqli, a warning message box appears. PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library 'C:"\php\php_mysql.dll' - The specified module could not be loaded. I have also tried to removing the semicolon before them in the php.ini file but to no avail. I'm running Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002, service pack 3. Where might be the problem? EDIT: I have changed extension_dir from C:\php to c:\wamp\bin\php\php5.4.14\ext\ in php.ini as the answer below indicates and the library is now loaded correctly but it says, 1045 - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES) though the user name and the password are the same as they are in MySQL in the config.inc.php file under phpmyadmin. I have also tried to restart MySQL56 service from Control Panel-Services(Local) but it keeps giving the same error. Does someone know why this happens?

• Odd IIS FTP Failure

  We're running a script on our production box that zips up our database and FTPs it to a backup box every night. Our production box is running Redhat Enterprise 5. Our backup box is running Windows XP Pro / IIS 5.1. Both machines are on the same VLAN (not sure if this is imporatant). The backup file usually clocks in at around 3GB. Every now and again (~5% of the time), the backup script fails. The shell script on the "client side" - which looks at return codes - never identifies any problem since ftp always returns 0. The real puzzler is the wincode: 10035 (WSAEWOULDBLOCK -- Resource temporarily unavailable). My understanding is that this code is normal when using non-blocking socket calls - which would almost certainly be used by any FTP Server implementation. My first guess that it might be a timeout issue doesn't make sense, since we're only talking about a few minutes here and the timeout was left at the default 900 s. Does anybody have any ideas about what is causing this problem, and how it may be fixed? Thanks!

• Huh? JDK not found? (on Windows 7 64-bit)

  I am setting up a development environment for the latest Android 2.3 on a fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit. I first installed the 64-bit JDK 6 (jdk-6u23-windows-x64.exe). Then, I installed 64-bit Eclipse Classic 3.6 (eclipse-SDK-3.6.1-win32-x86_64.zip). Then, I proceed to install the Android SDK Starter Package: installer_r08-windows.exe. But... upon start it says: "Java SE Development Kit (JDK) not found." Why? I just installed it. Is this a mismatch between 32-bit and 64-bit? How do I solve this? Update (1): I tried setting the %JAVA_HOME% environment variable, as well as setting the Installed JREs in Eclipse, as suggested below. None of these solved the problem. It appears that I am not the only experiencing the problem, as this thread suggests: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1919340/android-sdk-setup-under-windows-7-pro-64-bit I wonder whether there is a 64-bit version of the Android SDK. Update (2): I used the zip version instead (android-sdk_r08-windows.zip), ran android.bat, updated all SDK packages, and installed the ADT plugin (8.0.1), not before having to check: 'Contact all update sites during install to find required software'. We'll see how this goes... Update (3): It worked! (going to accept @bubu's answer shortly) -- but why doesn't the emulator include the HelloAndroid app when I run it (Ctrl+F11) from Eclipse?

• SATA HDD not recognized by BIOS after Windows 7 reinstall

  I got Win32.Virut.56 virus, which is a very nasty stuff. I reinstalled my Win7, but it reappeared somehow. After hours of headache, I was able to remove it by booting into a live Ubuntu and running CureIT using Wine. I then started reinstalling Windows 7. After the "expanding files" stage it rebooted, however from that point on, my 160 GB Western Digital SATAII hard drive was not recognized. The bios just freezes at "SATAII 1: Detecting...". My other 1.5 TB Seagate SATAII hard drive works correctly. I tried switching cables; that didn't help. I googled this issue, but what came up were usually firmware problems. I can't update the firmware or do anything at all, because if I plug it in, it won't start. My motherboard is an ASRock 4Core1333-Viiv, if that helps. I'm now stuck on a live Ubuntu. I can't install Win7 on the 1.5 TB drive, because it's full of data I need. What do you think I could try to make the hdd work again? As for the moment, I don't have another computer to try if that one recognizes the hdd.

  When pressing w or e in sentences with accents (written in my native language), such as the first one (marked **) here: **Éj-mélybol fölzengo** - csing-ling-ling - száncsengo. Száncsengo - csing-ling-ling - tél csendjén halkan ring. [1] the characters o, ö, among others [2], make my gVim think they are word-ends so it stops on them (in Normal mode). gVim stops on the positions marked with _ where it shouldn't: Éj-mélyb_ol f_ölzeng_o. I would like to set gVim so it properly handle words even when containing accents and other local characters. But where do I set this? I use it on Win32, vim v 7.3.46.   I'm working with Windows Server 2008, Apache 2.2. I'm using php-5.3.5-Win32-VC6-x86.msi as the installer, using the threadsafe version. I've gone through the install process four or five times just to make sure that I'm not missing anything ridiculous, but I don't think I am. The problem is that the php_ldap.dll extension simply doesn't seem to exist. It's not present in the installer interface (where the user is asked to choose which extensions to install), and it definitely doesn't appear in the ext/ directory after install. I found a lot of mentions of this issue for 5.3.3, including links to download the extension individually. Those links no longer exist, of course, and besides: they were for 5.3.3. I'd really rather use an extension that belongs with PHP 5.3.5. Anyone else encounter this problem? Any ideas as to what's going wrong? Anyone seen acknowledgement by the PHP folks that the file is indeed missing, and that it's an oversight? It's quite a frustration because the server I'm building has no purpose if I don't have PHP LDAP support. Cheers all, and thanks in advance for your assistance.

So, I read a lot of documentation about it but each time, I get lost at the very beginning : I've downloaded the latest version of subversion. But on every tutorial, the way to follow is different. First I sae, on a lot of tuts, that you have to enter command lines. Is that ONLY for Linux ? • Alternatives to ntbackup

  Is anyone aware of any good (for a given value of "good") alternatives to ntbackup? There's a few quirks with ntbackup that I still find odd, and occasionally (and for no obvious reason) ntbackup just doesn't back up - usually complaining about that the wrong tape's inserted even though it's been told to just use the tape that's in the drive regardless. I've experiemented with cygwin's tar and cpio and Win32 ports of these utilities, but I've not had any luck getting them to see the tape device (so if someone does use these utilities to write to a tape device, also be interested to know how). Essentially all I'm looking for is a reliable program that I can tell to back-up a list of locations to the tape, and not to care about anything like formatting tapes, or sticking volume labels on them (and conversely then makes it fairly straightforward to restore off as well). On the flip-side, I don't want something that will attempt to manage our tapes. Don't get me wrong here -- ntbackup can do the job, but its quirks are making look at possible alternatives. Any suggestions? If it's open source, even better.

• Windows 8, IIS8 how to make PHP imagick work

  I'm new to IIS server before IIS for 6 years I used Apache 2.X and with Apache imageMagick and its PHP module imagick worked just fine even with x64 version of PHP and Apache 2.4 and imageMagick. I tried to make imagick to work with IIS8 but it wont work. I always get the typical PHP startup warning in my log PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library 'C:\Program Files (x86)\iis express\PHP\v5.4\ext\php_imagick.dll' - %1 is not a valid Win32 application. in Unknown on line 0 And the next thing why is IIS loading php from IIS express folder if I have php in the program files? But actually I dont care until it works :) So what I did so far I unistalled imageMagick 6.7.X 64bit version and installed the latest x86 version, tested it in command line and it worked, than I looked up on net the latest imagick DLL which was I think the 3.1.0RC2 (founded here http://www.peewit.fr/imagick/) than I copied the dll to PHP's ext folder than edited php.ini and added the imagick to the dynamic extensions after that I restarted IIS and than nothing :( I got the error which I wrote earlier. Today I installed PEAR package Installer because I read somewhere that someone made it work with it but he also mentioned, that he needed to comply wincache too. Isn't there any easier solutions to make it work? Could someone maybe write me a step by step guide how to make this work.

• Cannot access domain from windows 2003 client

  Hey all, First off I am a novice at AD and DNS so please bear with me. This is my current situation: I have one server which is a DC and DNS server (win2k3) - Machine 1. I have another machine which is trying to join this domain - Machine2. This machine is also a win2k3 server. This is what I have done so far: I have setup DNS on the DC and its tcp/ip dns is pointing to itself. On machine2 I have set its dns to point to the dc. The DNS has been setup with a forward lookup zone with the same name as the domain (accdirect.com). I can ping machine1 from the machine2 by its FQDN and ip. I have set up forwarders on the DC for our ISP dns and can browse the internet on both machines. In the DNS mmc on the DC I can see a host (A) has been created for machine2. The problem is I still cannot join the domain. When I try join the domain via my computer - properties then it brings up the username/password box and after I go "ok" it says cannot find domain accdirect.com If I run this from machine2 dcdiag /s:accdirect.com /u:accdirect.com\admin /p: then I get the following: Performing initial setup: ** Warning: could not confirm the identity of this server in the directory versus the names returned by DNS servers. If there are problems accessing this directory server then you may need to check that this server is correctly registered with DNS [accdirect.com] Directory Binding Error 1722: Win32 Error 1722 This may limit some of the tests that can be performed. • OpenVPN, install a TAP adapter

  When I try to connect to my work VPN using OpenVPN, the connection fails with the message: All TAP-Win32 adapters on this system are currently in use. Many sources suggest to look in Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections an enable the TAP adapter, but when I look there, there is none. Now I've run addtap.bat which is provided with OpenVPN, but I still don't get to see any TAP adapter, and logging in in VPN still fails. The output of addtap.bat is C:\Windows\system32>"C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenVPN\bin\tapinstall.exe" install "C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenVPN\driver\OemWin2k.inf" tap0801 Device node created. Install is complete when drivers are updated... Updating drivers for tap0801 from C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenVPN\driver\OemWin2k .inf. Drivers updated successfully. I've Run As Administrator both the setup of OpenVPN and addtap.bat. I've run deltapall.bat to remove any (maybe hidden) adapters. It said it removed three of them, after which I ran addtap.bat again to try to create another one. I also run OpenVPN itself as administrator. What's wrong? Running Windows 7 Home Premium on a HP Pavilion dv7 4050ed. It has worked before, but I recently had to reinstall my laptop, for which I used the restore disks I created when I just got it. Everything else seems to work fine. == UPDATE == The TAP adapter is found in Device Manager, but apparently it is disabled because it is incompatible with Windows 7 64bit. I've deïnstalled OpenVPNGui, downloaded a version that should be 64bit compatible, and installed that. Still no cigar. Then I found a tip to install OpenVPN (version 9) after installing OpenVPNGui, because that installs OpenVPN version 8. Now I got a v9 TAP driver in Device Manager, but it still doesn't work and shows up in device manager with an exclamation mark, and not at all in my network devices.

• Automate creation of Windows startup script?

  Is there a good way to automate installing local startup (rather than login) scripts in Windows XP and Windows 7, via the command line, WMI, or otherwise (even COM or Win32 if it comes to that)? I need to setup a local startup script on a large number of computers, and unfortunately, Active Directory is absolutely not an option. I would like to write a script or small program that I can run on each computer to perform the startup script installation in order to save myself a lot of error-prone point-and-click manual labor. I see that when one uses gpedit.msc to create a local startup script, information about the script gets stored in the registry here: HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System\Scripts\Startup However, if you create such a script and then delete its registry key, the script will remain listed in the local Group Policy editor; as is so often the case in Windows, apparently there is more going on there than meets the eye. This leads me to question whether it's safe to manually add subkeys for new startup scripts here (I wouldn't want my script to be overwritten by later changes made using the local Group Policy editor, for instance)... Another option that's occurred to me is to create an item in the Task Scheduler configured to run at system startup. However, my concerns there are twofold: Can this be automated any more easily? For instance, the at command doesn't appear to let you schedule a task for system startup, and WMI's Win32_ScheduledJob interface looks unreliable (it fails to show any of my currently scheduled tasks, for one thing). Would I be able to prevent users from logging in until the scheduled startup task is completed, as can be done with "normal" Windows startup scripts? • WAMP server won't run with PHP 5.3.4 but will with PHP 5.2.11

  I have a 64bit Windows 7 Professional machine. I'm running WampServer Version 2.1 with Apache 2.2.4. It was installed on a clean machine. I'm using the default ini/conf files as they come. Wamp is installed in C:\wamp\, with php5.2 at C:\wamp\bin\php\php5.2.11 and php5.3 at C:\wamp\bin\php\php5.3.4. Both folders have the same permissions. When I run WAMP with 5.2.11 picked, it starts fine. When I run it with 5.3.4 picked, there are no errors in the Apache or PHP error logs, but I get The Apache service named reported the following error: httpd.exe: Syntax error on line 115 of C:/wamp/bin/apache/apache2.2.4/conf/httpd.conf: Cannot load C:/wamp/bin/php/php5.3.4/php5apache2_2.dll into server: The Apache service named is not a valid Win32 application. in my system application error logs. 5.2.11 calls C:/wamp/bin/php/php5.2.11/php5apache2_2.dll and that doesn't throw an error. What am I doing wrong?

• Apache can't be restarted after changes to the configuration file

  Hello, I can't successfully configure the apache and php configuration files, can anybody help me in this way? Apache 2.2.16 (win32-x86-no_ssl.msi) was installed into “C:\Apache2.2 “location. Then PHP 5.3.3 (VC9 x86 Thread Safe) zip file was downloaded and extracted on “C:\php” location. From “C:\php” I renamed the “php.ini-development” file into “php.ini” “php.ini” file was opened with notepad, and modified as: doc_root = "C:\Apache2.2\htdocs" extension_dir = "C:\php\ext" The following lines were added to the Apache's configuration file “httpd.conf”: LoadModule php5_module "C:/php/php5apache2_2.dll" AddType application/x-httpd-php .php PHPIniDir "C:/php" N.B.: Thanks all for comments and answer, but I can't reply none your comments, I don't know why. • Distributing processing for an application that wasn't designed with that in mind

  We've got the application at work that just sits and does a whole bunch of iterative processing on some data files to perform some simulations. This is done by an "old" Win32 application that isn't multi-processor aware, so new(ish) computers and workstations are mostly sitting idle running this application. However, since it's installed by a typical Windows Install Shield installer, I can't seem to install and run multiple copies of the application. The work can be split up manually before processing, enabling the work to be distributed across multiple machines, but we still can't take advantage of multiple core CPUs. The results can be joined back together after processing to make a complete simulation. Is there a product out there that would let me "compartmentalize" an installation (or 4) so I can take advantage of a multi-core CPU? I had thought of using MS Softgrid, but I believe that still depends on a remote server to do the heavy lifting (though please correct me if I'm wrong). Furthermore, is there a way I can distribute the workload off the one machine? So an input could be split into 50 chunks, handed out to 50 machines, and worked on? All without really changing the initial application? In a perfect world, I'd get the application to take advantage of a DesktopGrid (BOINC), but like most "mission critical corporate applications", the need is there, but the money is not. • Automate creation of Windows startup script?

  Is there a good way to automate installing local startup (rather than login) scripts in Windows XP and Windows 7, via the command line, WMI, COM, or otherwise (even Win32 if it comes to that)? I need to setup a local startup script on a large number of computers, and unfortunately, Active Directory is absolutely not an option. I would like to write a script or small program that I can run on each computer to perform the startup script installation in order to save myself a lot of error-prone point-and-click manual labor. I see that when one uses gpedit.msc to create a local startup script, information about the script gets stored in the registry here: HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System\Scripts\Startup However, if you create such a script and then delete its registry key, the script will remain listed in the local Group Policy editor; as is so often the case in Windows, apparently there is more going on there than meets the eye. This leads me to question whether it's safe to manually add subkeys for new startup scripts here (I wouldn't want my script to be overwritten by later changes made using the local Group Policy editor, for instance)... Another option that's occurred to me is to create an item in the Task Scheduler configured to run at system startup. However, my concerns there are twofold: Can this be automated any more easily? For instance, the at command doesn't appear to let you schedule a task for system startup, and WMI's Win32_ScheduledJob interface looks unreliable (it fails to show any of my currently scheduled tasks, for one thing). Would I be able to prevent users from logging in until the scheduled startup task is completed, as can be done with "normal" Windows startup scripts? Thanks in advance for any suggestions, I've been banging my head against this one for a bit...
