• speed of map() vs. list comprehension vs. numpy vectorized function in python

  I have a function foo(i) that takes an integer and takes a significant amount of time to execute. Will there be a significant performance difference between any of the following ways of initializing 'a': a = [foo(i) for i in xrange(100)] , a = map(foo, range(100)) , and vfoo = numpy.vectorize(foo) vfoo(range(100)) ? (I don't care whether the output is a list or a numpy array). Is there some other better way of doing this? Thanks.

  hi, when i try to convert form utf-8 string to NSString like so: NSString *s = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:"\U0627\U0644\U0641\U0631\U0646"]; NSLog(@"%@", s); i get the compile error: incomplete universal character name note that it sometime just works fine: NSString *UAE = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:"\U0627\U0644\U0641\U0631\U0646"]; NSLog(@"%@", UAE); and the output: ???????? so why is that happening? please help.

• how to configure jetty 7 to use syslog or log4j

  I am looking for a way to direct all the jetty 7 logging to syslog. My current configuration dumps everything to JETTY_HOME/logs/.. After some initial ivestigation, it seems I should change JETTY_HOME/etc/jetty-logging.xml, but this does not look straightforward. It looks like I should create a new PrintStream implementation which sends its output to syslog and redirecting stderr and stdout to that class in jetty-logging.xml. any easier way to do that or to make jetty log directly to log4j ?   I would like to use Razor's feature not to produce attribute output inside a tag in case when attribute's value is null. So when Razor meets <div class="@var" where @var is null, the output will be mere <div. I've created some Html extension method to write text inside tag. The method takes header text, level (h1..h6), and html attributes as simple object.   I'm using the Ruby SVN bindings built with SWIG. Here's a little tutorial. When I do this @repository = Svn::Repos.open('/path/to/repository') I can access the repository fine. But when I do this @repository = Svn::Repos.open('svn://localhost/some/path') It fails with /SourceCache/subversion/subversion-35/subversion/subversion/libsvn_subr/io.c:2710: 2: Can't open file 'svn://localhost/format': No such file or directory When I do this from the command line, I do get output svn ls svn://localhost/some/path Any ideas why I can't use the svn:// protocol?

  I have a sgen step in my .NET 3.5 library, producing a correct XYZ.XmlSerializers.dll in the output directory. Still having poor serialization performance, I discovered that .NET was still invoking a csc at runtime. Using process monitor, I saw that .NET was searching for a dll named "XYZ.XmlSerializers.-1378521009.dll". Why is there a '-1378521009' in the filename ? How to tell .NET to use the 'normal' DLL produced by sgen ?

  I'm trying to implement some functions to manipulate a linked list. The implementation is a template typename T and the class is 'List' which includes a 'head' pointer and also a struct: struct Node { // the node in a linked list T* data; // pointer to actual data, operations in T Node* next; // pointer to a Node }; Since it is a template, and 'T' can be any data, how do I go about checking the data of a list to see if it matches the data input into the function? The function is called 'retrieve' and takes two parameters, the data and a pointer: bool retrieve(T target, T*& ptr); // This is the prototype we need to use for the project "bool retrieve : similar to remove, but not removed from list. If there are duplicates in the list, the first one encountered is retrieved. Second parameter is unreliable if return value is false. E.g., " Employee target("duck", "donald"); success = company1.retrieve(target, oneEmployee); if (success) { cout << "Found in list: " << *oneEmployee << endl; } And the function is called like this: company4.retrieve(emp3, oneEmployee) So that when you cout *oneEmployee, you'll get the data of that pointer (in this case the data is of type Employee). • Having Latest Tests Results info in the notified email with Hudson

  I have a project with a lot of tests failing, so it would be great for me to receive by email the number of failed tests compare from the latest build. What i need is just the info that appears in the project's page by the test results link: Latest Test Result (10 failures / -2) Is this possible? I've already tried the email-ext plugin, but it is not telling me that info (I can have the list of failing tests with output etc., but I really just need that info above). Any ideas?
