• Transposing a matrix

  Hello, I want to transpose a matrix, its a very easy task but its not working with me : int testtranspose(testing *test,testing *test2){ int i,j; (*test2).colsmat2=(*test).rowsmat1; (*test2).rowsmat2=(*test).colsmat1 for(i=0;i<(*test).rowsmat1;i++){ for(j=0;j<(*test).colsmat1;j++){ ((*test2).mat[i][j])=((*test).mat[i][j]); } printf("\n"); } } I thought this is the correct method of doing it, but apparently for a matrix such as : 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 I get : 1 2 0 0 3 4 0 0 What is the problem ? • How can I draw a log-normalized imshow plot with a colorbar representing the raw data in matplotlib

  I'm using matplotlib to plot log-normalized images but I would like the original raw image data to be represented in the colorbar rather than the [0-1] interval. • Web Services Example - Part 2: Programmatic

  In this edition of the ADF Mobile blog we'll tackle part 2 of our Web Service examples.  In this posting we'll take a look at using a SOAP Web Service but calling it programmatically in code and parsing the return into a bean. Getting the sample code: Just click here to download a zip of the entire project.  You can unzip it and load it into JDeveloper and deploy it either to iOS or Android.  Please follow the previous blog posts if you need help getting JDeveloper or ADF Mobile installed.  Note: This is a different workspace than WS-Part1 Defining our Web Service: Just like our first installment, we are using the same public weather forecast web service provided free by CDYNE Corporation.  Sometimes this service goes down so please ensure you know it's up before reporting this example isn't working. We're going to concentrate on the same two web service methods, GetCityForecastByZIP and GetWeatherInformation. Defing the Application: The application setup is identical to the Weather1 version.  There are some improvements to the data that is displayed as part of this example though.  Now we are able to show the associated image along with each forecast line when using the Forecast By Zip feature.  We've also added the temperature Hi/Low values into the UI. Summary of Fundamental Changes In This Application The most fundamental change is that we're binding the UI to the Bean Data Controls instead of directly to the Web Service Data Controls.  This gives us much more flexibility to control the shape of the data and allows us to do caching of the data outside of the Web Service.  This way if your application is, say offline, your bean could still populate with data from a local cache and still show you some UI as opposed to completely failing because you don't have any connectivity. In general we promote this type of programming technique with ADF Mobile to insulate your application from any issues with network connectivity. What's different with this example? We have setup the Web Service DC the same way but now we have managed beans to process the data.  The following classes define the "Model" of our application:  CityInformation-CityForecast-Forecast, WeatherInformation-WeatherDescription.  We use WeatherBean for UI interaction to the model layer.  If you look through this example, we don't really do that much with the java code except use it to grab the image URL from the weather description.  In a more realistic example, you might be using some JDBC classes to persist the data to a local database. To have a good architecture it is always good to keep your model and UI layers separate.  This gets muddied if you start to use bindings on a page invoked from Java code and this java code starts to become your "model" layer.  Since bindings are page specific, your model layer starts to become entwined with your UI.  Not good!  To help with this, we've added some utility functions that let you invoke DC methods without having a binding and thus execute methods from your "model" layer without requiring a binding in your page definition.  We do this with the invokeDataControlMethod of the AdfmfJavaUtilities class.  An example of this method call is available in line 95 of WeatherInformation.java and line 93 of CityInformation.Java. What's a GenericType? Because Web Service Data Controls (and also URL Data Controls AKA REST) use generic name/value pairs to define their structure and don't have strongly typed objects, these are actually stored internally as GenericType objects.  The GenericType class is simply a property map of name/value pairs that can be hierarchical.  There are methods like getAttribute where you supply the index of the attribute or it's string property name.  Why is this important to know?  Because invokeDataControlMethod returns GenericType objects and developers either need to parse these GenericType objects themselves or use one of our helper functions. GenericTypeBeanSerializationHelper This class does exactly what it's name implies.  It's a helper class for developers to aid in serialization of GenericTypes to/from java objects.  This is extremely handy if you have a large GenericType object with many attributes (or you're just lazy like me!) and you just want to parse it out into a real java object you can use more easily.  Here you would use the fromGenericType method.  This method takes the class of the Java object you wish to return and the GenericType as parameters.  The method then parses through each attribute in the GenericType and uses reflection to set that same attribute in the Java class.  Then the method returns that new object of the class you specified.  This is obviously very handy to avoid a lot of shuffling code between GenericType and your own Java classes.  The reverse method, toGenericType is also available when you want to go the other way.  In this case you supply the string that represents the package location in the DataControl definition (Example: "MyDC.myParams.MyCollection") and then pass in the Java object you have that holds the data and a GenericType is returned to you.  Again, it will use reflection to calculate the attributes that match between the java class and the GenericType and call the getters/setters on those. Issues and Possible Improvements: In the next installment we'll show you how to make your web service calls asynchronously so your UI will fill dynamically when the service call returns but in the meantime you show the data you have locally in your bean fed from some local cache.  This gives your users instant delivery of some data while you fetch other data in the background.

  I need to graph some data that is not exactly in the most friendly format, most examples or usage puts things in a nice column/table that is very easy to parse and graph. However I have the following format (and am a bit stuck as to how to tackle this): DATE1 label_1 xx yy DATE1 label_2 xx yy DATE1 label_3 xx yy DATE2 label_2 xx yy DATE2 label_3 xx yy DATE3 label_1 xx yy DATE3 label_2 xx yy DATE3 label_3 xx yy DATE4 label_2 xx yy DATE4 label_3 xx yy ...continues *I've added the extra space between the dates for readability. **Note: under DATE2,DATE4 label_1 is missing, i.e. the data file may have labels that come and go and should represent a discontinuity in the graph. I'd like to have the X-axis use the DATEX for the labels, and then create two lines for each label (xx and yy respectively). Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to tackle this problem?

• JavaScript To Strip Page For URL

  We have a javascript function we use to track page stats internally. However, the URLs it reports many times include the page numbers for search results pages which we would rather not be reported. The pages that are reports are of the form: http://www.test.com/directory1/2 http://www.test.com/directory1/subdirectory1/15 http://www.test.com/directory3/1113 Instead we'd like the above reported as: http://www.test.com/directory1 http://www.test.com/directory1/subdirectory1 http://www.test.com/directory3 Please note that the numbered 'directory' and 'subdirectory' names above are just for example purposes and that the actual subdirectory names are all different, don't necessarily include numbers at the end of the directory name, and can be many levels deep. Currently our JavaScript function produces these URLs using the code: var page = location.hostname+document.location.pathname; I believe we need to use the JavaScript replace function in combination with some regex but I'm at a complete loss as to what that would look like. Consider that each table has IsDeleted column which has to be marked true if request was made to delete data. But that data shoud remain their physically. Tables which will have IsDeleted Column are tblDomain tblSubject tblTopic tblSubTopic Now I want, if a user marks one domain as deleted then all the refrence field should also get marked as deleted. i.e. 1 domain is related to 5 subjects, those 5 subjects are related to 25 topics, those 25 topics are related to 500 subtopics and so on. Then how should i mark all these fileds as Deleted. ?

• Silverlight MVVM example which does not use data grids?

Most of the examples I have read see links below and books such as Pro WPF and Silverlight MVVM by Gary Hall use a silverlight application with a datagrid. • Ajax success function firing before java class responds

  I am creating a login function with ajax and am having an issue where the success function (SuccessLogin) fires before getting an ajax response. I am running the code as google web app from eclipse and I can see when debugging the java class file, that the javascript is throwing an alert for the success response from the class being false before the debugger catches the break point in the class file. • Entity Framework 4 - Handling very large (1000+ tables) data models?

  We've got a database with over 1000+ tables and would like to consider using EF4 for our data access layer, but I'm concerned about the practical realities of using it for such a large data model. I've seen this question and read about the suggested solutions here and here. These may work, but appear to refer to the first version of the Entity Framework (and are more complex than I'd like). Does anyone know if these solutions have been improved upon in EF4? Or have other suggestions all together? Thanks.

  I have a Microsoft Access database file connected to VB.NET. In the database table, I have a 'No.' and a 'Status' column. Then I have a textbox where I can input an integer. I also have a button, which will change the data cell in 'Status' where 'No.' = textbox.Text(), when I click it. Let's say I want the 'Status' cell to be changed to "Low". • HTTP compression - can I configure a client to compress the data sent to a server?

  Hello, I'm using IIS 7 as web server for my application. If I enable dynamic content compression in the server, will this also enable clients to send compressed data to the server, if they can? I mean, my application uses SOAP webservices, and clients usually send large chunks of data to the server. The clients are written in C#/.NET. Is there any kind of configuration I can do in a web reference / serice reference in order to tell them to compress the content before they send it to IIS? And do I have to do any kind of configuration in IIS in order for this to work? Thanks in advance

  Update: For the benefit of anyone reading this, since .NET 4, the lock is unnecessary due to changes in synchronization of auto-generated events, so I just use this now: public static void Raise<T>(this EventHandler<T> handler, object sender, T e) where T : EventArgs { if (handler != null) { handlerCopy(sender, e); } } And to raise it: SomeEvent.Raise(this, new FooEventArgs()); Having been reading one of Jon Skeet's articles on multithreading, I've tried to encapsulate the approach he advocates to raising an event in an extension method like so (with a similar generic version): public static void Raise(this EventHandler handler, object @lock, object sender, EventArgs e) { EventHandler handlerCopy; lock (@lock) { handlerCopy = handler; } if (handlerCopy != null) { handlerCopy(sender, e); } } This can then be called like so: protected virtual void OnSomeEvent(EventArgs e) { this.someEvent.Raise(this.eventLock, this, e); } Are there any problems with doing this? Also, I'm a little confused about the necessity of the lock in the first place. As I understand it, the delegate is copied in the example in the article to avoid the possibility of it changing (and becoming null) between the null check and the delegate call. However, I was under the impression that access/assignment of this kind is atomic, so why is the lock necessary? • Can't access font resource in Silverlight class library

  I have a reasonably large Silveright 3.0 project on the go, and I'm having issues accessing a couple of custom font resources from within one of the assemblies. I've got a working test solution where I have added a custom font as a resource, and can access it fine from XAML using: <TextBlock Text="Test" FontFamily="FontName.ttf#Font Name" /> The test solution consists of the TestProject.Application and the TestProject.Application.Web projects, with all the fun and games obviously in the TestProject.Application project However, when I try this in my main solution, the fonts refuse to show in the correct type face (instead showing in the default font). There's no difference in the way the font has been added to project between the test solution and the main solution, and the XAML is identical. However, there is a solution layout difference. In the main solution, as well as having a MainApp.Application and MainApp.Application.Web project, I also have a MainApp.Application.ViewModel project and a MainApp.Application.Views project, and the problem piece of XAML is the in the MainApp.Application.Views project (not the .Application project like the test solution). I've tried putting the font into either the .Application or .Application.Views project, tried changing the Build Action to Content, Embedded Resource etc, all to no avail. So, is there an issue accessing font resources from a child assembly that I don't know about, or has anyone successfully done this? My long term need will be to have the valid custom fonts being stored as resources in a separate .Application.FontLibrary assembly that will be on-demand downloaded and cached, and the XAML controls in the .Application.Views project will need to reference this FontLibrary assembly to get the valid fonts. I've also tried xcreating this separate font library assembly, and I can't seem to get the fonts from the second assembly. As some additional information, I've also tried the following font referencing approaches: <TextBlock Text="Test" FontFamily="/FontName.ttf#Font Name" /> <TextBlock Text="Test" FontFamily="pack:application,,,/FontName.ttf#Font Name" /> <TextBlock Text="Test" FontFamily="pack:application,,,/MainApp.Application.Views;/FontName.ttf#Font Name" /> <TextBlock Text="Test" FontFamily="pack:application,,,/MainApp.Application.Views;component/FontName.ttf#Font Name" /> And a few similar variants with different assembly references/sub directories/random semi colons. And so far nothing works... anyone struck this (and preferably solved it)?

If I search for "test," I get 0 results. But if I search for "test one" or "test two" I get the proper result. The search is ignoring the space. In reality I want both results if the user searches for "test." Any ideas? I tried contain and like.

• CMake: Mac OS X: ld: unknown option: -soname

  I try to build my app with CMake on Mac OS X, I get the following error: Linking CXX shared library libsml.so ld: unknown option: -soname collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make[2]: *** [libsml.so] Error 1 make[1]: *** [CMakeFiles/sml.dir/all] Error 2 make: *** [all] Error 2 This is strange, as Mac has .dylib extension instead of .so. Build process: cmake -D BuildType=Debug -D LibraryType=shared . make I found, that incorrect command generate in CMakeFiles/sml.dir/link.txt. But why, as the goal of CMake is cross-platforming.. How to fix it?

• Can Internet data be used by malware when PC off?

  I have noticed over the last month that my off peak data has been used at a rate of approx 350MB per hour - this has meant that I have gone over my quota and slowed down by my ISP to 256k. There is no one in the house using it (2am-8am is my ISPs off peak hours) at that time. My PC and other wireless devices (ipad and iphone) are turned off. I have changed the wireless password on my modem 3 times and it is now 30 digits long. So I don't think someone else is using my wireless access between 2-8am. It has been suggested by my ISP that I may have malware/spyware on my computer. Sorry for my ignorance, but can malware still run if the PC is off? I did look at my modem's log and followed an IP address to a service called Amazon Simple server Storage. Could this company possibly be the culprit? I am not too tech savvy, so any assistance appreciated. I have run a barrage of spyware cleaning software eg malware bytes; spy bot etc.... Cheers Val

• How can I create the XML::Simple data structure using a Perl XML SAX parser?

  Summary: I am looking a fast XML parser (most likely a wrapper around some standard SAX parser) which will produce per-record data structure 100% identical to those produced by XML::Simple. Details: We have a large code infrastructure which depends on processing records one-by-one and expects the record to be a data structure in a format produced by XML::Simple since it always used XML::Simple since early Jurassic era. An example simple XML is: <root> <rec><f1>v1</f1><f2>v2</f2></rec> <rec><f1>v1b</f1><f2>v2b</f2></rec> <rec><f1>v1c</f1><f2>v2c</f2></rec> </root> And example rough code is: sub process_record { my ($obj, $record_hash) = @_; # do_stuff } my $records = XML::Simple->XMLin(@args)->{root}; foreach my $record (@$records) { $obj->process_record($record) }; As everyone knows XML::Simple is, well, simple. And more importantly, it is very slow and a memory hog—due to being a DOM parser and needing to build/store 100% of data in memory. So, it's not the best tool for parsing an XML file consisting of large amount of small records record-by-record. However, re-writing the entire code (which consist of large amount of "process_record"-like methods) to work with standard SAX parser seems like an big task not worth the resources, even at the cost of living with XML::Simple. I'm looking for an existing module which will probably be based on a SAX parser (or anything fast with small memory footprint) which can be used to produce $record hashrefs one by one based on the XML pictured above that can be passed to $obj->process_record($record) and be 100% identical to what XML::Simple's hashrefs would have been. I don't care much what the interface of the new module is; e.g whether I need to call next_record() or give it a callback coderef accepting a record.

  All, I have an SMS gateway application running on my server that passes incoming SMS messages to a php script. That script writes the data to a text file. Certain aspects of the message can be extracted as variables - for example: Message content: $msgdata Sender: $originator Time: $receivedtime etc... Using the script below I can easily write the message to a text file but it will write the data of every SMS that comes in. I only want to write to a text file if the $originator variable is a certain telephone number (e.g 07123456321) $date = date("d.m.Y H:i:s"); $msgdata = $_REQUEST["msgdata"]; $myFile3 = "test.txt"; $fh = fopen($myFile3, 'a') or die("can't open file"); $stringData3 = "$date - $msgdata\n"; fwrite($fh, $stringData3); fclose($fh); Your assistance is bery much appreciated.
