• android & libgdx - disable blurry images rendering

  i'm trying out libgdx as an opengl wrapper , and i have some issues with its graphical rendering : for some reason , all images (textures) on android device look a little blurred using libgdx . this also includes text (font) . however, for normal images , even though i show the entire image , i expect it to look as sharp as i see it on a computer , especially if i have such a good screen on the device (it's galaxy nexus) . i've tried to set the anti-aliasing off , by using the next code : final AndroidApplicationConfiguration androidApplicationConfiguration=new AndroidApplicationConfiguration(); androidApplicationConfiguration.numSamples=0; //tried the value of 1 too. ... i've also tried to set the scaling method to various methods , but with no luck. example: texture.setFilter(TextureFilter.Nearest,TextureFilter.Nearest); as a test , i've found a sharp image that is exactly the same as the seen resolution on the device (720x1184 for galaxy nexus , because of the buttons bar) , and i've put it to be on the background of the libgdx app . of course , i had to add extra blank space in order for the texute to be loaded , so the final size of the image (which will include content and empty space) is still a power of 2 for both width and height (1024x2048 in my case) . on the desktop app , it look ok . on the device , it looked blurred. a weird thing that i've noticed is that when i change the device's orientation (horizontal <= vertical) , for the very short time before the rotating animation starts , i see both the image and the text very well . can anyone please help me?

• Rails : fighting long http response times with ajax. Is it a good idea? Please, help with implementa

  Hi, everybody! I've googled some tutorials, browsed some SO answers, and was unable to find a recipe for my problem. I'm writing a web site which is supposed to display almost realtime stock chart. Data is stored in constantly updating MySQL database, I wrote a find_by_sql query code which fetches all the data I need to get my chart drawn. Everything is ok, except performance - it takes from one second to one minute for different queries to fetch all the data from the database, this time includes necessary (My)SQL-server side calculations. This is simply unacceptable. I got the following idea: if the data is queried from the MySQL server one point a time instead of entire dataset, it takes only about 1-100ms to get an individual point. I imagine the data fetch process might be browser-driven. After the user presses the button in order to get a chart drawn, controller makes one request to the database and renders, say, a progress bar, say 1% ready. When the browser gets the response, it immediately makes an (ajax) request, and the server fetches the next piece of data and renders "2%". And so on, until all the data is ready and the server displays the requested chart. Could this be implemented in rails+js, is there a tutorial for solving a similar problem on the Web? I suppose if the thing is feasible at all, somebody should have already done this before. I have read several articles about ajax, I believe I do understand general principles, but never did nontrivial ajax programming myself. Thanks for your time!

  Hi Geeks, We are having serious MySQL(InnoDB) performance issues at a moment when we do: (10-20) insertions on TABLE1 (10-20) updates on TABLE2 Note: Both above operations happens within fraction of a second. And this occurs every few (10-15) minutes. And all online users (approx 400-600) doing read operation on join of TABLE1 & TABLE2 every 1 second. My poor MySQL server crashes sometimes Questions Q1: Any suggestions to optimize at MySQL level? Q2: I thinking to use persistent connections at application level, is it right? Info Added Later: Database Engine: InnoDB TABLE1 : 400,000 rows (inserting 8,000 daily) & TABLE2: 8,000 rows 1 second query: SELECT b.id, b.user_id, b.description, b.debit, b.created, b.price, u.username, u.email, u.mobile FROM TABLE1 b, TABLE2 u WHERE b.credit = 0 AND b.user_id = u.id AND b.auction_id = "12345" ORDER BY b.id DESC LIMIT 10; // there are few more but they are not so critical. Indexing is good, we are using them wisely. In above query all id's are indexed And TABLE1 has frequent insertions and TABLE2 has frequent updates.

• phppgadmin : How does it kick users out of postgres, so it can db_drop?

  I've got one Posgresql database (I'm the owner) and I'd like to drop it and re-create it from a dump. Problem is, there're a couple applications (two websites, rails and perl) that access the db regularly. So I get a "database is being accessed by other users" error. I've read that one possibility is getting the pids of the processes involved and killing them individually. I'd like to do something cleaner, if possible. Phppgadmin seems to do what I want: I am able to drop schemas using its web interface, even when the websites are on, without getting errors. So I'm investigating how its code works. However, I'm no PHP expert. I'm trying to understand the phppgadmin code in order to see how it does it. I found out a line (257 in Schemas.php) where it says: $data->dropSchema(...) $data is a global variable and I could not find where it is defined. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

• Passing Object to Service in WCF

  Hi, I have my custom class Customer with its properties. I added DataContract mark above the class and DataMember to properties and it was working fine, but I'm calling a service class's function, passing customer instance as parameter and some of my properties get 0 values. While debugging I can see my properties values and after it gets to the function, some properties' values are 0. Why it can be so? There's no code between this two actions. DataContract mark workes fine, everything's ok. Any suggestions on this issue? I tried to change ByRef to ByVal, but it doesn't change anything. Why it would pass other values right and some of integer types just 0? Maybe the answer is simple, but I can't figure it out. What's is the difference? Could that be serialization issue?

  I'm trying to use Cmockery to mock C functions called from C++ code. Because the SUT is in C++, my tests need to be in C++. When I use the Cmockery expect_string() macro like this: expect_string(mock_function, url, "Foo"); I get: my_tests.cpp: In function ‘void test_some_stuff(void**)’: my_tests.cpp:72: error: invalid conversion from ‘void*’ to ‘const char*’ my_tests.cpp:72: error: initializing argument 5 of ‘void _expect_string(const char*, const char*, const char*, int, const char*, int)’ I see in cmockery.h that expect_string is defined: #define expect_string(function, parameter, string) \ expect_string_count(function, parameter, string, 1) #define expect_string_count(function, parameter, string, count) \ _expect_string(#function, #parameter, __FILE__, __LINE__, (void*)string, \ count) And here's the prototype for _expect_string (from cmockery.h): void _expect_string( const char* const function, const char* const parameter, const char* const file, const int line, const char* string, const int count); I believe the problem is that I'm compiling C code as C++, so the C++ compiler is objecting to (void*)string in the expect_string_count macro being passed as the const char* string parameter to the _expect_string() function. I've already used extern "C" around the cmockery.h include in my_tests.cpp like this: extern "C" { #include <cmockery.h> } ...in order to get around name-mangling problems. (See "How do I compile and link C++ code with compiled C code?") Is there a command-line option or some other means of telling g++ how to relax its restrictions on typecasting from my test's C++ code to the C function in cmockery.c? • Divide a path into N sections using Java or PostgreSQL/PostGIS

  Imagine a GPS tracking system that is following the position of several objects. The points are stored in a database (PostgreSQL + PostGIS). Each path is composed by a different number of points. That is the reason why, in order to compare a pair of paths, I need to divide every path in a set of 100 points. Do you know any PostGIS function that already implement this algorithm? I've not been able to find it. If not, I'd like to solve it using Java. In this case I'd like to know an efficient and easy to implement algorithm to divide a path into N points. The most simple example could be to divide this path into three points: position 1 : x=1, y=2 position 2 : x=1, y=3 And the result should be: position 1 : x=1, y=2 (starting point) position 2 : x=5, y=2.5 position 3 : x=9, y=3 (end point) Edit: By 'compare a pair of paths' I mean to calculate the distance between two paths. I plan to divide each path in 100 points, and sum the euclidean distance between each one of these points as the distance between the two paths.

  I have created a simple blog application with Ruby on Rails. The applications consists of two tables, posts and comments. Comments belongs_to :post and posts has_many :comments. I created posts table with the following columns: title:string, body:text. I created the comments table with the following columns: body:text post_id:integer name:string email:string In the /views/comments/index.html.erb display I would like to show a listing of all comments w/ the post title as well. Currently, the index view only displays post_id, body, name, email. How do I replace the post_id column with the corresponding post title? • Join Query Not Working

  Hello, I am using three MySQl tables: comment commentid loginid submissionid comment datecommented login loginid username password email actcode disabled activated created points submission submissionid loginid title url displayurl datesubmitted In these three tables, the "loginid" correspond. I would like to pull the top 10 loginids based on the number of "submissionid"s. I would like to display them in a 3-column HTML table that shows the "username" in the first column, the number of "submissionid"s in the second column, and the number of "commentid"s in the third column. I tried using the query below but it did not work. Any idea why not? • How to tell axis2 to use an existing object as a service?

  I am trying to expose some methods of a running application as a webservice. The core idea is to use an embedded web-server and send the soap messages to the apache axis2 framework in order to invoke the services. The problem is, that axis2's createService methods only accept Classes as parameter, not existing objects. So I believe that axis2 itself creates an object of the service class and then uses it to call methods when an external service call arrives. But I need to pass an existing object for being used as a service, because I need to call methods of other objects of the running application within the service methods. So the "standard" way that axis2 creates a new instance of the service class and calls then its methods is obviously no sulution for me. So is there a way to realize this? Or is there another solution? Perhaps you can pass objects later on to the allready created service object by axis2? If there is another solution without axis2 I might consider that one. Basically I am only interested in exposing some functionality of a runnning application as a webservice.

• Can I return JSON from an .asmx Web Service if the ContentType is not JSON?

  I would like to post a form using ajax and jquery to a .asmx webservice and return the value from the webservice as JSON. I'm using ASP.NET 4.0. I know that in order to return JSON from a webservice the following needs to be set (1) dataType: "json" (2) contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", (3) type: "POST" (4) set the Data to something. I have tested this and it works fine (i.e. my webservice returns the data as JSON) if all *four are set*. But, lets say in my case I want to do a standard form post i.e. test1=value1&test2=value2 so the contentType is not JSON but I want back JSON {test1:value1}. This doesn't seem to work because the contentType is "application/x-www-form-urlencoded" not "application/json; charset=utf-8". Can anyone tell me why I can't do this? It seems crazy to me that you have to explicitly send JSON to get JSON back, yet if you don't use JSON (i.e. post urlencoded contenttype) then the webservice will return XML. Any insights are greatly appreciated :)

• Sending basic authentication information via form

  I am working on a site that currently uses a basic authentication dialog box login system, that is the type of dialog that you get if you go here: http://www.dur.ac.uk/vm.boatclub/password/index.php I did not set this system up and am not in a position to easily/quickly work around it, but it DOES work. The issue however is that the dialog box is not very helpful in telling you what login information you have to use (that is which username and password combination), and so I would like to replace it with a form. I had been thinking that this wasn't possible but I wanted to ask in order to find out. Is it possible to set up an HTML form that sends the data to the server such that it accepts it in the same way that it would using this dialog box? Alternatively is it possible to set up a PHP script that would take normal form data and process it somehow passing it to the server such that it logs in? Edit: After being told that this is basic authentication I went around and have managed to find a way that works and keeps the user persistently logged in. However, this does not work in internet explorer. The solution was simply to redirect the user to: http://username:[email protected]/vm.boatclub/password/index.php But Internet Explorer removed it due to phishing uses about 3 years ago. Is there a way to use javascript to get the browser to access the site in this way? Or will I have to simply change my UI?

• Bulk Insert of hundreds of millions of records

  What is the fastest way to insert 237 million records into a table that has rules (for distributing the data across 84 child tables)? First I tried inserts. No go. Then I tried inserts with BEGIN/COMMIT. Not nearly fast enough. Next, I tried COPY FROM, but then noticed the documentation states that the rules are ignored. (And it was having difficulties with the column order and date format -- it said that '1984-07-1' was not a valid integer; true, but a bit unexpected.) • Password Cracking in 2010 and Beyond

  I have looked a bit into cryptography and related matters during the last couple of days and am pretty confused by now. I have a question about password strength and am hoping that someone can clear up my confusion by sharing how they think through the following questions. I am becoming obsessed about these things, but need to spend my time otherwise :-) Let's assume we have an eight-digit password that consists of upper and lower-case alphabetic characters, numbers and common symbols. This means we have 8^96 ~= 7.2 quadrillion different possible passwords. As I understand there are at least two approaches to breaking this password. One is to try a brute-force attack where we try to guess each possible combination of characters. How many passwords can modern processors (in 2010, Core i7 Extreme for eg) guess per second (how many instructions does a single password guess take and why)? My guess would be that it takes a modern processor in the order of years to break such a password. Another approach would consist of obtaining a hash of my password as stored by operating systems and then search for collisions. Depending on the type of hash used, we might get the password a lot quicker than by the bruteforce attack. A number of questions about this: Is the assertion in the above sentence correct? How do I think about the time it takes to find collisions for MD4, MD5, etc. hashes? Where does my Snow Leopard store my password hash and what hashing algorithm does it use? And finally, regardless of the strength of file encryption using AES-128/256, the weak link is still my en/decryption password used. Even if breaking the ciphered text would take longer than the lifetime of the universe, a brute-force attack on my de/encryption password (guess password, then try to decrypt file, try next password...), might succeed a lot earlier than the end of the universe. Is that correct? I would be very grateful, if people could have mercy on me and help me think through these probably simple questions, so that I can get back to work.

  I have a number of enums and need to get them as List<string> objects in order to enumerate through them and hence made the GetEnumAsStrings<T>() method. But it seems to me there would be an easier way. • Super simple CSS tooltip in a table, why is it not displaying and can I make it work?

  Hi, I have been trying to implement many different tooltips on this page for my client, he's adamant that we have a picture of the product show up when you hover over the product name in the order page. I decided to use the super simple CSS tooltip, it's very easy to implement and does exactly what we want. It works on a dynamic page, the others I tried didn't. I have made an example here: CSS tooltip in table example. This page used to be displayed using divs, I have since changed it to a table, as it's tabular data and easier to work with. It worked fine when it used divs, now it's in a table, it won't display the span on hover. My questions are: Why is it not working? How can I make it work? If not, does anyone know another super easy to implement tooltip that can work properly on a dynamic page? Here's the DIV tooltip for reference: DIV display tooltip.   I have build a grid of div's as playground for some visual experiments. In order to use that grid, i need to know the x and y coordinates of each div. That's why i want to create a table with the X and Y position of each div. X:0 & Y:0 = div:eq(0), X:0 Y:1 = div:eq(1), X:0 Y:2 = div:eq(2), X:0 Y:3 = div:eq(3), X:1 Y:0 = div:eq(4) etc.. What is the best way to do a table like that? Creating a OBJECT like this: { 00: 0, 01: 1, 02: 2, etc.. } or is it better to create a array? position[0][0] = 0 the thing is i need to use the table in multiple way's.. for example the user clicked the div nb: 13 what are the coordinates of this div or what is the eq of the div x: 12 y: 5.   Hey guys. I've got a perplexing issue. In my subclassed UITableViewController my datasource methods lose their tableview reference depending on lines of code I put inside the method. If I insert an assignment statement above the "id i = tableview;" statement: CGFloat x = 5.0; id i = tableView; then tableview retains its pointer (i.e. is not nil) if I place the breakpoint after the "id i = tableView;" line. In other words, the breakpoint must be set after the "id i = tableView"; assignment in order for tableView to retain its pointer. If the breakpoint is set before the assignment is made and I just hang at that breakpoint for a bit then after a couple of seconds the console logs this error message: Assertion failed: (cls), function getName, file /SourceCache/objc4_Sim/objc4-427.5/runtime/objc-runtime-new.mm, line 3990. Although the code works when I don't step through the method, I need my debugger to work! It makes programming kind of challenging when your debugging tools become your enemy. • find and replace values in a flat-file using PHP

  I'd think there was a question on this already, but I can't find one. Maybe the solution is too easy... Anyway, I have a flat-file and want to let the user change the values based on a name. I've already sorted out creating new name+value-pairs using the fopen('a') mode, using jQuery to send the AJAX call with newValue and newName. But say the content looks like this: host|http:www.stackoverflow.com folder|/questions/ folder2|/users/ And now I want to change the folder value. So I'll send in folder as oldName and /tags/ as newValue. What's the best way to overwrite the value? The order in the list doesn't matter, and the name will always be on the left, followed by a |(pipe), the value and then a new-line. My first thought was to read the list, store it in an array, search all the [0]'s for oldName, then change the [1] that belongs to it, and then write it back to a file. But I feel there is a better way around this? Any ideas? Maybe regex?

• Help with java executors: wait for task termination.

  I need to submit a number of task and then wait for them until all results are available. Each of them adds a String to a Vector (that is synchronized by default). Then I need to start a new task for each result in the Vector but I need to do this only when all the previous tasks have stopped doing their job. I want to use Java Executor, in particular I tried using Executors.newFixedThreadPool(100) in order to use a fixed number of thread (I have a variable number of task that can be 10 or 500) but I'm new with executors and I don't know how to wait for task termination. This is something like a pseudocode of what my program needs to do: EecutorService e = Executors.newFixedThreadPool(100); while(true){ /*do something*/ for(...){ <start task> } <wait for all task termination> for each String in result{ <start task> } <wait for all task termination> } I can't do a e.shutdown because I'm in a while(true) and I need to reuse the executorService... Can you help me? Can you suggest me a guide/book about java executors??

• Classic ASP - Email form with attached file - please help

  Hi Guys, Ive got abit of a problem ive got an email web form that send the input to an email address but what I now need is a file input field were the user can also send an image as an attachment. So contact name, logo (attachment). Ive been told in order to send the attachment it needs to be saved in a folder on my hosting before it can be sent. Ive spoken to the hosting company and they dont have anything in place to make this easier such as aspupload.   HI! I'm trying to create a list that some of the elements are defined and some are not, without priority to order. • SQL group results as a column array

  Hi guys, this is an SQL question and don't know which type of JOIN, GROUP BY etc. to use, it is for a chat program where messages are related to rooms and each day in a room is linked to a transcript etc. Basically, when outputting my transcripts, I need to show which users have chatted on that transcript. At the moment I link them through the messages like so: SELECT rooms.id, rooms.name, niceDate, room_transcripts.date, long FROM room_transcripts JOIN rooms ON room_transcripts.room=rooms.id JOIN transcript_users ON transcript_users.room=rooms.id AND transcript_users.date=room_transcripts.date JOIN users ON transcript_users.user=users.id WHERE room_transcripts.deleted=0 AND rooms.id IN (1,2) ORDER BY room_transcripts.id DESC, long ASC The result set looks like this: Array ( [0] => Array ( [id] => 2 [name] => Room 2 [niceDate] => Wednesday, April 14 [date] => 2010-04-14 [long] => Jerry Seinfeld ) [1] => Array ( [id] => 1 [name] => Room 1 [niceDate] => Wednesday, April 14 [date] => 2010-04-14 [long] => Jerry Seinfeld ) [2] => Array ( [id] => 1 [name] => Room 1 [niceDate] => Wednesday, April 14 [date] => 2010-04-14 [long] => Test Users ) ) I would like though for each element in the array to represent one transcript entry and for the users to be grouped in an array as the entry's element. So 'long' will be an array listing all the names. Can this be done? At the moment I just append the names and when the transcript date and room changes I echo them retrospectively, but I will do the same for files and highlighted messages and it's messy. Thanks.
