• Want to mimic iphone address book search (In terms of interface & interaction)

  Hi, When you do a search in the address book the flow is: 1) Select the search bar 2) The right most transparent a-z index is removed 3) A transparent black window is placed over the current UITableView 4) When you begin typing, a new UITableView is loaded with no data 5) The UITableView is populated with data as you type. 6) If you select an item you are brought to it 7) If you cancel the search you return to the main UITalbeView My first real question is, how do I load a new UITableView when a user begins searching? Is it as easy as popping a new view on the stack? It would then be a seperate .m/.h file with its own implementation? The second question is how do you remove the right most index? Or just that just go away when you render the new (blank) UITableView? I've gotten search working, but mine does it in the same UITableView, which when you start contains like 2K results, is grouped (A results under A Heading, etc) and has a right most index. I'd be happy leaving the results in the table, if I could; 1) Remove the rightmost a-z index 2) Drop the table groupings 3) Tell the view I only have N search results so it will build the scroll bar correctly. • iOS layout; I'm not getting it

  Well, "not getting it" is too harsh; I've got it working in for what for me is a logical setup, but it does not seem to be what iOS deems logical. So I'm not getting something. Suppose I've got an app that shows two pieces of information; a date and a table. According to the MVC approach I've got three MVC at work here, one for the date, one for the table and one that takes both these MCVs and makes it into a screen, wiring them up. The master MVC knows how/where it wants to layout the two sub MVC's. Each detail MVC only takes care of its own childeren within the bounds that were specified by the master MVC. Something like: - (void)loadView { MVC* mvc1 = [[MVC1 alloc] initwithFrame:...] [self.view addSubview:mvc1.view]; MVC* mvc2 = [[MVC2 alloc] initwithFrame:...] [self.view addSubview:mvc2.view]; } If the above is logical (which is it for me) then I would expect any MVC class to have a constructor "initWithFrame". But an MVC does not, only view have this. Why? How would one correctly layout nested MVCs? (Naturally I do not have just these two, but the detail MVCs have sub MVCs again.)

  I need to add a CSS class to the TR (or multiple TR's) of the parent of a TD containing some specific text. Because of the CMS I can't control the code, but I can add some Jquery and CSS. I've tried a few things, but I've had no luck.   I have a GridView that is bound to a LINQDataSource control that is returning a collection of customers. Within my DataGrid I need to display the home phone number of a customer, if they have one. The phone numbers of a customer are stored in a separate table with a foreign key pointing to the customer table. The following binding expression gets me the first phone number for a customer: <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="LastName" SortExpression="LastName"> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="PhoneLabel" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("Phones[0].PhoneNumber") %>'></asp:Label> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> I need to figure out how to get the home phone number specifically (filter based on phone type) and handle the scenario where the customer does not have a home phone in the database. Right now it's throwing an out of range exception if the customer does not have any phone numbers. • Problem in UITableViewDelegate - RowSelected gives wrong NSIndexPath

  I have a UITableViewSource which I have subclassed. I'm overriding GetCell and using my own subclassed cells, like so: public override UITableViewCell GetCell(UITableView tableView, NSIndexPath indexPath) { MarketItem item=_tableItems[indexPath.Section].Items[indexPath.Row]; MarketCell cell=tableView.DequeueReusableCell(_cellIdentifier) as MarketCell; if (cell==null) { cell=new MarketCell(UITableViewCellStyle.Subtitle,_cellIdentifier,item); } // decorate the cell // ... return cell; } This works but when I get events in my UITableViewDelegate, the index path gets me the wrong cell (events like AccessoryButtonTapped, WillSelectRow etc). The Section and Row numbers look correct but when I do a tableView.CellAt(indexPath) I get the wrong cell. (The row and section numbers again look correct.) Things to note: The table is constantly being updated - items arrive in a different thread which are then InvokeOnMainThread'd Although the table is constantly updated, rows and sections are only added - nothing is re-ordered or deleted If I pause the updates when I get a 'WillSelectRow', it doesn't help Most interestingly (but not a shippable solution) if I make a new cell each time rather than doing DequeueReusableCell, it works correctly. I can't help thinking it's a stupid bug of my own making but can't find it. Any help would be most gratefully received!

  Hi, I'm a Rails newbie and want to do something but keep messing something up. I'd love some help. I have a simple app that has three tables. Users, Robots, and Recipients. Robots belong_to users and Recipients belong_to robots. On the robot show page, I want to be able to create recipients for that robot right within the robot show page. • How to optimize a postgreSQL server for a "write once, read many"-type infrastructure ?

  Greetings, I am working on a piece of software that logs entries (and related tagging) in a PostgreSQL database for storage and retrieval. We never update any data once it has been inserted; we might remove it when the entry gets too old, but this is done at most once a day. Stored entries can be retrieved by users. The insertion of new entries can happen rather fast and regularly, thus the database will commonly hold several millions elements. The tables used are pretty simple : one table for ids, raw content and insertion date; and one table storing tags and their values associated to an id. User search mostly concern tags values, so SELECTs usually consist of JOIN queries on ids on the two tables. To sum it up : 2 tables Lots of INSERT no UPDATE some DELETE, once a day at most some user-generated SELECT with JOIN huge data set What would an optimal server configuration (software and hardware, I assume for example that RAID10 could help) be for my PostgreSQL server, given these requirements ? By optimal, I mean one that allows SELECT queries taking a reasonably little amount of time. I can provide more information about the current setup (like tables, indexes ...) if needed.

• how can i set up a uniqueness constraint in mysql for columns that can be null?

  I know that in MySQL, UNIQUE constraits don't treat NULL values as equal. So if I have a unique constraint on ColumnX, then two separate rows can have values of NULL for ColumnX and this wouldn't violate the constraint. How can I work around this? I can't just set the value to an arbitrary constant that I can flag, because ColumnX in my case is actually a foreign key to another table. What are my options here? Please note that this table also has an "id" column that is its primary key. Since I'm using Ruby on Rails, it's important to keep this id column as the primary key. Note 2: In reality, my unique key encompasses many columns, and some of them have to be null, because they are foreign keys, and only one of them should be non-null. • Designing model/database for distance between any two locations (that may change)

  We should create a web app which has a number of events each with a location (created as user-generated content, so the number of events will be increasingly large). The distance between any events should be available, for example to determine the top 5 closest events and such things. Users may change the locations of events. How should one design the database/model for this (in a scalable way)? I was thinking of doing it with a "distance table" (like so http://www.deutschland-tourist.info/images/entfernungstabelle.gif). Then every time, if a location changes, one row and one column have to be recalculated (this should be done with a delayed job, because it is not important to have the changes instantly). Possible problems in Scaling: Database to large (n² items for n events), too much calculation to be done. For example we should see if this is okay for 10.000 users. If each has created just one event, then this would be 100 million integers... Do you think this would be a good way to do it efficiently? How could one realize such a distance table with an rails model? Is it possible with a SQL databse? Would you start other approaches?

When it comes to two notebooks (clients) connecting to one access database through switches, it throws DBConcurrency Exception Error.   We have an SQL Server that gets daily imports of data files from clients. This data is interrelated and we are always scrubbing it and having to look for suspect duplicate records between these files. Finding and tagging suspect records can get pretty complicated. We use logic that requires some field values to be the same, allows some field values to differ, and allows a range to be specified for how different certain field values can be. The only way we've found to do it is by using a cursor based process, and it places a heavy burden on the database. So I wanted to ask if there's a more efficient way to do this. I've heard it said that there's almost always a more efficient way to replace cursors with clever JOINS. But I have to admit I'm having a lot of trouble with this one. For a concrete example suppose we have 1 table, an "orders" table, with the following 6 fields. order_id, customer_id product_id, quantity, sale_date, price We want to look through the records to find suspect duplicates on the following example criteria. These get increasingly harder. 1. Records that have the same product_id, sale_date, and quantity but different customer_id's should be marked as suspect duplicates for review. 2. Records that have the same customer_id, product_id, quantity and have sale_dates within five days of each other should be marked as suspect duplicates for review 3. Records that have the same customer_id, product_id, but different quantities within 20 units, and sales dates within five days of each other should be considered suspect. Is it possible to satisfy each one of these criteria with a single SQL Query that uses JOINS? Is this the most efficient way to do this?

• Fix DB duplicate entries (MySQL bug)

  I'm using MySQL 4.1. Some tables have duplicates entries that go against the constraints. When I try to group rows, MySQL doesn't recognise the rows as being similar. Example: Table A has a column "Name" with the Unique proprety. The table contains one row with the name 'Hach?' and one row with the same name but a square at the end instead of the '?' (which I can't reproduce in this textfield) A "Group by" on these 2 rows return 2 separate rows This cause several problems including the fact that I can't export and reimport the database. On reimporting an error mentions that a Insert has failed because it violates a constraint. In theory I could try to import, wait for the first error, fix the import script and the original DB, and repeat. In pratice, that would take forever. Is there a way to list all the anomalies or force the database to recheck constraints (and list all the values/rows that go against them) ? I can supply the .MYD file if it can be helpful.

I think there is some mess with charset code/decode but never figured out. The SQL' table is in "utf8_unicode_ci" format and the column in "utf8_general_ci".   I'm doing an application, which uses Swing JTable. I used drag and drop in NetBeans, to add the JTable. When I add the JTable, JScrollPane is added automaticly. All the look is done with drag and drop. By pressing the first button, I set the number of rows in the table. This is the code to set my DataModel int size = 50; String[] colNames = {"Indeks", "Ime", "Priimek", "Drzava"}; DefaultTableModel model = new DefaultTableModel(size, colNames.length); model.setColumnIdentifiers(colNames); table.setModel(model); So if the size is, let's say 10, it works OK, since there is no scroll bar. When I add 50 empty rows, when trying to scroll for 5 seconds, it doesn't work properly and crashes in some time. I added the picture, for better understanding (this is what happens to the rows when I scroll up and down for a while). What could be wrong? Am I not using the DataModel as it is supposed to be used, should I .revalidate() or .repaint() the JTable?

Among other processes, some statistics are computed on the objects contained into these sets and the result are stored in table STATS. These statistic are computed through several logs (identified by the STARTID and ENDID columns). So, what could be the SQL query that would give me the latest computed stats for all the objects with the corresponding log dates. In the given example, the result rows would be: OBJECTID | SETID | FREQUENCY | STARTDATE | ENDDATE ====================================================== 1 | 1 | 0.45 | 2010-02-27 | 2010-03-01 2 | 1 | 0.6 | 2010-02-27 | 2010-03-01 3 | 1 | 0.02 | 2010-02-27 | 2010-03-01 4 | 2 | 0.6 | 2010-02-26 | 2010-02-28 5 | 2 | 0.6 | 2010-02-26 | 2010-02-28 So, the most recent stats for set 1 are computed with logs from feb 27 to march 1 whereas stats for set 2 are computed from feb 26 to feb 28. object 6 is not in the results rows as there is no stat on it within the last period of time. • jQuery Suspected Naming Convention Problem

  Hi all, I'm having a problem with this jQuery function, the portion of the function that renames the id, class and name of the dropdown only works for the first dropdown, subsequent ones do not work, any ideas?
