• Error: Can't find common super class of ...

  I am trying to process with Proguard a MS Windows desktop application (Java 6 SE using the SWT lib provided by Eclipse). And I get the following critical error: Unexpected error while performing partial evaluation: Class = [org/eclipse/swt/widgets/DateTime] Method = [<init>(Lorg/eclipse/swt/widgets/Composite;I)V] Exception = [java.lang.IllegalArgumentException] (Can't find common super class of [java/lang/StringBuffer] and [org/eclipse/swt/internal/win32/TCHAR]) Error: Can't find common super class of [java/lang/StringBuffer] and [org/eclipse/swt/internal/win32/TCHAR] ---------------------------- When I tried to Google the error, it came out only on two spots on the entire web, that astonished me greatly. I am newbie using Proguard and Java code optimization tools at all. Any thoughts and suggestions how to fix this, will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

• x264 IDR access unit with a SPS and a PPS

  Hi All, I am trying to encode video in h.264 that when split with Apples HTTP Live Streaming tools media file segmenter will pass the media file validator I am getting two errors on the split MPEG-TS file WARNING: Media segment contains a video track but does not contain any IDR access unit with a SPS and a PPS. WARNING: 7 samples (17.073 %) do not have timestamps in track 257 (avc1). After hours of research I think the "IDR" warning relates to not having keyframes in the right place on the segmented MPEG-TS file so in my ffmpeg command I set -keyint_min 1 to ensure keyframes where at every frame, but this didn't work. Although it would be great to get an answer, if anyone can shed any light on what a "IDR access unit with a SPS and a PPS" is or what the timestamps warning means I would be very grateful, thanks.

  I have some pretty straightforward markup: <form action=""> <fieldset class="compact"> <legend>Member Tools</legend> <label for="username">Username</label> <input name="username" id="username" type="text"/> <label for="password">Password</label> <input name="password" id="password" type="password" /> </fieldset> </form> I am attempting to add a small margin to the bottom of the Legend element, this works just fine in Firefox 2 and 3 as well as IE 5-8, however in Safari and Chrome adding a margin does nothing. As far as I know legend is just another block level element and Webkit should have no issue adding a margin to it, or am I incorrect?

  I have a client who is using Lotus Domino for their web application/server platform. The client has two "web developers" who are more comfortable with Lotus Domino than more mainstream tools and technologies and are not enthusiastic about making a switch. I have been asked to provide an assessment of why it may be prudent to migrate to a different web application platform. I would be particularly interested in understanding deficiencies related to the platform as I have very little knowledge of Domino but am very familiar with other platforms. In addition to the fact that Apache has over 70% of web server market, IIS over 21%, and Lotus almost 0%, what other reasons would you give for moving away from this platform?   I am on MAC OS X 10.5.5. I installed Calibre, a tool for converting e-book files from one format to another. It has a GUI as well as command line tools. I am trying to run the command line tool "any2mobi" to convert HTML files to MOBI pocket format or Kindle AZW format, with a TOC. I get the error "-bash: any2mobi: command not found". Clearly, any2mobi is not in my path. Where is it? I tried searching but came up empty. I installed version 0.6.0b6 of Calibre.

• Where is the displaytag of scheduled reporting?

  So I have been making some reports and using displaytag to output these reports in html, csv, excel, pdf, etc. They are paginated, and take a simple object graph... and output excellent results everytime, with very little code. However, I need to use displaytag or its equivalent outside of a jsp. So that a user can schedule a report to run, and that report is stored in a db, or emailed for later viewing. I have looked at jasper-based reporting solutions, but making a jasper jrxml file is just a nightmare. I know there are gui tools to help, but I'm content with the simple output of displaytable, so I'm happy to give up that control for ease of implementation. Really, if I could take the display:table config out of the jsp I would, so please keep that in mind when proposing a solution. btw, java solutions would be my cup of tea.

• How can I extract similarities/patterns from a collection of binary strings?

  I have a collection of binary strings of given size encoding effective solutions to a given problem. By looking at them, I can spot obvious similarities and intuitively see patterns of symmetry and periodicity. Are there mathematical/algorithmic tools I can "feed" this set of strings to and get results that might give me an idea of what this set of strings have in common? By doing so I would be able to impose a structure (or at least favor some features over others) on candidate solutions in order to greatly reduce the search space, maximizing chances to find optimal solutions for my problem (I am using genetic algorithms as the search tool - but this is not pivotal to the question). Any pointers/approaches appreciated.

• De-dupe a list of hundreds of thousands of first name/last name/address/date of birth

  I have a large data set which I know contains many dupicate records. Basically I have data on first name, last name, different address components and date of birth. I think the best way to do this is to use the name and date of birth as chances are if these things match, it's the same person. There are probably lots of instances where there are slight differences in spelling (like typos missing a single letter) or use of name (ie: some might have a middle initial in first name column) which would be good to account for, but I'm not sure how to approach this. Are there any tools or articles on going about this process? The data is all in a MySQL database and I have a basic proficiency in SQL.

• SQL Server 08 Express error when connecting to localhost - "Timeout expired". Works with ::1 or 127.0.0.1

  EDIT New info: Navigating to localhost:1434 in Chrome gives me an "ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE", while other ports give me an "Oops! This link appears to be broken". So it seems to binding ok there? So here's my setup so far: I've configured Windows Firewall to allow TCP on 1433 and UDP on 1434. I've set up SQL Server to use any IP on Port 1433 (using the SQL Server Configuration Manager). My hosts file contains the default entries ("127.0.0.1 localhost" and "::1 localhost"). I sometimes have a debug session of Visual Web Developer running a webserver, but it's on a specific port (localhost:5XXXX). What I've tried: I CAN ping localhost in a cmd prompt. I CAN connect to the database through SSMS if I specify 127.0.0.1 or ::1 as the server name. I CAN'T connect to the database through SSMS (or ADO.NET) if I specify localhost as the server name. I've tried both Windows and SQL Authentication The error I get is the standard Can't connect to localhost. Additional Information -- Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. (Microsoft Sql Server) Other considerations: Stopping the Visual Web Developer web server from the taskbar doesn't affect the sql problem. The SQL error log says that it's listening on some piped name url at start up (I don't see how this would affect localhost but not 127.0.0.1 though). I could probably just use 127.0.0.1 everywhere, but it scares me that localhost isn't working and I'd like to figure out why. I'm not much of a networking or sql server guy so I'm stuck. If you want me to try anything to help diagnose just put it in a comment and I'll give it a go. Sometimes it's very useful to be to fetch data stored on your remote server simply by invoking netcat with some shell kung fu, for example: To download the XML result of your nightly data crunching job you might run something like: echo "get 95ec6c7693ec53771c8a3fb1061562b8" | nc localhost 11211 > console_overview_06_04_2010.xml The interesting part here is get SOME_UNIQUE_KEY which is part of the memcached protocol. • Why does CTFontCreateWithName != NULL on iPhone OS 3.1.3?

  I am following the instructions in the Apple dev docs: http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/documentation/DeveloperTools/Conceptual/cross_development/Using/using.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/20002000-1114537 In this case, I'm trying to conditionally execute code, depending on whether or not CTFontCreateWithName is defined. Here is what I've reduced my test case down to: if (CTFontCreateWithName != NULL) NSLog(@"CTFontCreateWithName = %p", CTFontCreateWithName); This prints "CTFontCreateWithName = 0x0", which suggests that it's both NULL and not NULL at the same time. Even though CTFontCreateWithName != NULL evaluates to true, I get an error saying it can't resolve the symbol _CTFontCreateWithName once it gets to the line that uses it. Any ideas? Is %p not the correct way to print out the address of a function? For what it's worth, the example in their docs, UIGraphicsBeginPDFPage != NULL, evaluates to false, so it works for that one.

• Ruby GUI (non-complex layouts)

  I've done quite a bit of research on Ruby GUI design, and it appears to be the one area where Ruby tends to be behind the curve. I've explored the options of MonkeyBars, wxRuby, fxRuby, Shoes, etc. and was just wanted to get some input from the Ruby community. While they're definitely usable, the development on each seems to have fallen off. There is not a great deal of useful documentation or user bases that I could find on any (minus the fxRuby book). I'm just looking to make a simple GUI, so I don't really want to spend hundreds of hours learning the intricacies of the more complex tools or attempt to use something that is no longer even being developed (Shoes is the type of application I'm looking for, but it's extremely buggy and not being actively developed.) Out of all of the options, which would you guys recommend as being the quickest to pick up and that still has some sort of development base? Thanks!

I read about Subversion "svn:needs-lock" property and the ability to set auto-props in a subversion repository by setting "enable-auto-props = yes" in the repository config file. The "svn:needs-lock" property is neccesary when working with SSIS,dtsx to handle the files like binary files wich must be locked to avoid mergingconflicts. How should i configure Subversion config file for this kind of development? • Is there something like bsdiff/Courgette for jar files?

  Google uses bsdiff and Courgette for patching binary files like the Chrome distribution. Do any similar tools exist for patching jar files? I am updating jar files remotely over a bandwidth-limited connection and would like to minimize the amount of data sent. I do have some control over the client machine to some extent (i.e. I can run scripts locally) and I am guaranteed that the target application will not be running at the time. I know that I can patch java applications by putting updated class files in the classpath, but I would prefer a cleaner method for doing updates. It would be good if I could start with the target jar file, apply a binary patch, and then wind up with an updated jar file that is identical (bitwise) to the new jar (from which the patch was created).

I am about to commence development on a new application (.NET & C#) and really like the concept of the Specification Pattern and am keen to make full use of it. • Developing FIrebug like web application for CSS things.

  I am developing a web application for web designing. One part of it includes changing CSS styles on the run and saving the same back to server. I see that, first part of my motive is implemented there in firebug, where I can view CSS style rules applied to a particular HTML element and can change them to view the effect. An earlier question at SO lead to me firebug lite source code https://getfirebug.com/firebug-lite-debug.js , which is far less confusing than full version of firebug. My question was that, is there any way I can get documentation of the firebug/firebug lite code which can speed things up for me. After some googling I found out that there is Firebug API http://getfirebug.com/developer/api/firebug1.6/ But don't know how much useful it is for me. Any alternative way to do this is also welcome.

• install make command without already having make (mac os 10.5)

  I'm trying to write a script that uses the make command, but Mac os 10.5 doesn't come with make installed by default, and when you download the make source code from gnu's website, you have to use make itself to compile and install it. which is hard if you don't have it in the first place. How can I install make? (I know you can get make by installing Xcode and the developer tools that come with mac os, but I don't want people to have to go find their mac os install dvds to be able to use the script.) It doesn't even have to be make, i'm just looking for a utility that you can easily download in a script (using ftp or curl) and use to compile source code.

  I am currently gathering some technology requirements for a site that will be a social network based. I don't want to re-invent the wheel so i am looking for some type of SDK or collection of tools that can provide me with a way of creating/managing a social network. I understand that no framework will probably fit my exact needs so I am also looking for a flexible/extensible framework. An example extension point would be allowing the user to provide sub networks, maybe a global network that could be sub classified as work and friends. Beyond that it would also be nice to somehow be able to import contacts from other networking sites (Facebook, Linked In, etc). My current technology suite will more than likely consist of the following: IIS 7.0 WCF Data Services SQL Server 2005/2008 ASP.NET front end. So my two questions are 1) C# Open Source Social Network SDK 2) C# Open Source Social Netowrk APIs (facebook, linked in, etc) If there is any more information you may need please let me know.

  i built an appengine web app cricket.hover.in. The web app consists of about 15k url's linked in it, But even after a long time of my launch, no pages are indexed on google. Any base link place on my root site hover.in are being indexed with in minutes. but i placed the same link home page of root site a long back. but its of no use. can any one analyse , if there is any issue with cricket.hover.in or if bots have any issues with Google app engine actually tested the url using labs app of webmaster tools of google there the return is fine and html is clear. but when tested the same (cricket.hover.in) at the following urls its showing different results of failure www.dnsqueries.com/en/googlebot_simulator.php www.smart-it-consulting.com/internet/google/googlebot-spoofer/ but if i test some of my php or word press links at the above url's the results are good and fine. please help me with this.

• Simple ASP.Net MVC 1.0 Validation

  On the current project we are working on we haven't upgraded to MVC 2.0 yet so I'm working on implementing some simple validation with the tools available in 1.0. I'm looking for feedback on the way I'm doing this. I have a model that represents a user profile. Inside that model I have a method that will validate all the fields and such. What I want to do is pass a controller to the validation method so that the model can set the model validation property in the controller. The goal is to get the validation from the controller into the model. Here is a quick example public FooController : Controller { public ActionResult Edit(User user) { user.ValidateModel(this); if (ModelState.IsValid) ....... ....... } } And my model validation signature is like public void ValidateModel(Controller currentState) What issues can you see with this? Am I way out to lunch on how I want to do this?

I've been programming in Ruby for about 3 years. I am primarily a web developer, but I do things related to bit torrent, data mining, and databases as well. I have a bit torrent related gem that I wrote for the hell of it. I've also got some projects on Github (username: blatyo). I am looking for ideas for me, but anything you can think of that would be awesome I would like to hear as well.
