• Dichroic Glass in Blender

  I am trying to use blender to simulate the Lycurgus Cup. The cup is an example of dichroic (two-color) glass, and appears green when a light source is on the outside of the cup, and appears red when a light source is inside the cup. Here is an image of when light is outside and it appears green: Here is an image of when light is inside and it appears red: I have created a glass cup in blender. I have made the glass a red color, and then used the colorbands under the Object-Material/Shading-Ramps tab to add green specular and diffuse color. However, this makes the glass appear the same mix of red and green whether I put the light source on the inside or outside the cup. An example can be seen here: According to the second post here, someone was able to to fake the effect of a dichroic glass in blender rather easily through the use of a magic procedural texture but they provide no clues on how to do this (in blender). Does anyone know how to achieve this effect in blender?

• Windows 7 search doesn’t find text strings

  I’m not able to find any text strings starting not from the beginning of word in filename or in file content using Windows 7 search. My Windows 7 search configuration: Let’s say I’m searching for a documents containing word “content”. I’m able to find those documents when searching for “content”, “conte”, “con” (as long as the string includes the beginning of the word). "content" "con" But if I search for “ontent”, “tent” or any other combination that doesn’t include the beginning of the word, Windows search won't find it. I've tried other indexing/searching software such as Copernic Desktop search, Google desktop search. Those programs also weren’t able to find part of the word starting from the middle of the word. For instance, it finds “conte”, but doesn’t find “onte”. Finds “conte” Doesn’t find “onte” I got the same problem using Copernic desktop search. On the other hand, when I use non-indexing content search software such as Agent Ransack or FileSeek, I get the same results when searching for “conte” or “onte”: “conte” “onte” Why do all pre-indexing content search applications (Windows search, Google desktop, Copernic desktop search) fail to search for a string inside the words? Why do non-indexing applications find text strings wherever they are: in the beginning, middle or end of the word? I’ve tried wildcards and other constructions with no luck. *onte onte “onte” content:onte content:onte content:~onte All these searched doesn’t find the word “content”. How can I make Windows search find strings from any part of words? Could you try these searches and see if they work for you? Or is this normal behavior? Thank you. • Is there a way to make Apple Mail work well with Exchange server calendar?

  My office uses Macs, but most of our clients use Windows and Outlook. Whenever people send invitations from Apple Mail to a Windows/Outlook machine, the invitations are garbled and look nothing like the nicely formatted invitations that Outlook people are used to. We also have no tools to view shared calendars, so we can choose mutually open time slots, and other useful calendar features that Outlook has and Apple Mail seems not to. So is there a plugin or third party program that will give Apple Mail the nice calendar features of Outlook? (By the way, I've looked into actually buying Outlook for Mac, and the pricing is kind of prohibitive, because you MUST buy the whole Office Suite, which we already have, there's no upgrade path, and there's no volume discounting.)

• MacBook OS X applications crashing on startup

  Closed my computer last night, went home. Opened it and it had restarted. Now when I open a couple programs such as Adobe Fireworks or Appcelerator Titanium they throw up a nasty error like below. Other programs (Chrome, Firefox, Textmate, Versions) work fine. Any thoughts on this? I haven't owned my MacBook long so I'm not even aware of the right tools or places to look to track this down. Any help would be most appreciated. It's making it hard to get my work done :] If it helps at all both those programs were probably open when it restarted. From the look of it I'm not sure if it's a permissions error or something? I completely re-installed one of the applications (Appcelerator Titanium). Didn't seem to help. • Why doesn’t windows explorer show my removable / USB drive even though the command prompt does?

  I'm running WinXP SP2. Around 50% of the time, when I slot in my USB drive. Windows explorer refuses to show the drive. If I click on the Safely remove hardware icon on the tray, I can see a menu item for the drive - say drive G: (the light on the USB drive is also on) If I type in G: into the address bar of explorer, it says 'Cannot find...' If I type in G: into a command prompt window, it works and I can do a dir to see the list of directories on the drive. To fix this, I've to remove-reinsert the pen-drive. But doing it every day is annoying. Also this happens only on this machine.. I use this drive on my home machine and it works flawlessly each time. Can anyone suggest things that I could try ?   I've had a (mostly) steady internet connection for the past two months. For the last hour, however, my connectivity has been dropping every 10 minutes or so, and must be reset. So far, I've always been able to fix the issue by running Windows network diagnostics (On Windows 7 64 bit), but the lack of constant internet is making it a pain to try and stream video, download games through steam, etc. Windows always reports a fix by "Resetting the Local Area Connector", telling me: Default Gateway Not Available. What's going on? Is the trouble on my end, or with my ISP? (Timewarner Cable) Things I've Tried: Reinstalling the motherboard's LAN drivers Manually setting a default gateway (gets cleared, reverts to default settings) Unplugged (Hard Reset) the router Unplugged / replugged ethernet cable.

  Hi, I'm experiencing some occasional crashes waking from sleep and I believe it may be related to the Corsair SSD F40GB2 as my boot disk...or the new Ceton tuner I recently installed... I dunno what the real problem is as I can't reproduce the problem manually. I read somewhere that I should not allow the hard disks to sleep...so I'm trying that in the meantime... At any rate, I don't really care that the computer crashes so long as WMC will start recording the task as soon as possible...the task is scheduled to wake the computer 5 minutes before the recording starts. I noticed that there is a StartRecording param in the Media Center folder in Task Scheduler. There is an option (currently unchecked) that will retry a failed task. I would like to know if there is a way to enable that checkbox. My hope is that if my PC crashes when waking up for this task, that after it reboots the task will trigger again and start recording. • Office 2007 and Office 2010 installed side by side

  I have Office 2007 and Office 2010 installed side-by-side. How do I stop the setup / configuration window from appearing each time I open a different version? If I open 2007, it will go through the configuration process, then I can use 2007 without issue until I open a 2010 application. Then, when I open any 2010 Office application it will go through the configuration process.

• Sorting in Pivot Table on how data is summarized, not just the value

  Often I am creating pivot tables that summarize some count by some category. Let's say I am counting Yes/No responses by some category. I usually add the count field and display it as a "% of row", and then create a pivot chart. However, if I want to sort one of the columns, say "Yes", Excel sorts by the underlying count, not the calculated percentage. Any way around this?

• Internal disk not correctly recognised by Windows 7

  i'm having problems configuring a disk in a brand new, clean windows-7 install. here are some system specifics- . disk- western digital velociraptor wd6000hlhx . mobo- gigabyte z77x-ud3h . bios sata-mode set to ahci [not raid], w/disk connected to sata0 [6gb/s hi-speed sata]. . windows 7 enterprise sp1 x64 the disk is recognized by bios and correctly identified [name & size ok]. the disk is also recognized by windows on a h/w level, but it won't show up in the explorer. windows reports the device is working correctly. windows disk manager shows the drive, but says it's uninitialized and has no partitions [which is incorrect]. if i try to initialize the drive, windows throws an error saying that it "cannot find the file specified". [which file???] before connecting the drive to the new machine, i partitioned and formatted the disk under windows xp sp2, giving it 2 partitions [mbr, not gpt] and copying over a boatload of data. obviously none of this appears under windows 7. removing the disk from the new machine and replacing it back in the windows xp machine shows the disk and all data are intact and functional. i'd like to have windows 7 recognize the disk w/o having to lose the data and start over. is this possible? if so, how would i do that? I checked this post, but even though the problem seems identical, the information didn't help. any help appreciated. thanks!
