Why support IE6?
- by TATWORTH
The question has been raised as to why support IE6?
I can give you two reasons, why your client will require IE6 to be supported:
While IE6 continues to have above a certain of browsers in use
The web application is for a controlled environment that has not been upgraded from IE6 to a later version
I personally only use any current or previous version of IE to:
To access the Windows Update site
As required to test IE compatibility of applications that I write
I agree that that the CSS fixes required to support IE6 are undesirable in that they require non-standards compliant CSS. I prefer that my HTML be both XHTML and CSS standards complaint according to the W3C tests.
IE9 promises to be not only standards compliant but much better in performance. I am looking forward to its release.
