• Cannot uninstall myspell-he

  I tried to install a Hebrew spell checker for LibreOffice. I downloaded a package named myspell-he_1.1-1_all.deb and tried to install it through the software center, installation failed and I can neither complete installation nor remove it. Since then, whenever I run Update Manager I get an error message: The package system is broken, In details: The following packages have unmet dependencies: dictionaries-common: When I try to run the Software center I get a pop-up window: Items cannot be installed or removed until the package catalog is repaired. A Repair option is suggested. If I click it the following nessage appears: installArchives() failed: dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of myspell-he: dictionaries-common (1.12.1ubuntu2) breaks myspell-he (<= 1.1-1) and is installed. Version of myspell-he to be configured is 1.1-1. dpkg: error processing myspell-he (--configure): dependency problems - leaving unconfigured No apport report written because MaxReports is reached already Errors were encountered while processing: myspell-he Error in function: dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of myspell-he: dictionaries-common (1.12.1ubuntu2) breaks myspell-he (<= 1.1-1) and is installed. • Microsoft Word Document Recovery seems unresolvable

  We work on a server (Windows Server 2003 Enterprise) that a bunch of us developers remote in using Remote Desktop Connection, and now every "other" time I open up word I get this Document Recovery pane: As you can see, "Delete" and "Show Repairs" are disabled (I don't think this is my document). "Open" or "Save As" works, but it never marks this document recovered, it just keeps coming up every "other" time I open up word. I don't even care about this document. How can I remove this document from the list so that it doesn't come up anymore? Update: As per Moab's comment, I had the user delete the file. But the Document Recovery still shows up with that item every other time Word is opened. The only difference now is that clicking on "Open" produces this (obvious) message: How can I clear this list? BTW, the user that owned this document was never getting the Document Recovery pane.

This is on Server 2008 R2, my SQL database (on localhost) instance is named SQLEXPRESS. There is an instance of SQL Express 2008 on the system (hence client 10.0). The database is configured to use a trusted connection, and the .net desktop software deployed on our network PCs is able to access the database without any problem. Am I missing something obvious here, I've done a fair amount of searching for this error message, and haven't found anything that has been particularly useful so far.

• How do I make an exe into a service on Windows?

  I recently made an application that has multiple parts. One of the parts is a networking tool - it always starts with the OS, and it never displays any sort of message. It does, however, start an incredibly irritating console, which is impossible to get rid of without closing the program itself (please just accept this one as given). I have decided to work around this problem by starting the program (it's a *.exe) as a service, thus stopping it from showing up at all. As the application will be distributed to various computers (hence the need for a networking tool in the first place). I need a way to make this program install as a service (so, I don't really want answers that tell me to go through a series of menus on the Control Panel or download a 3rd-party application that has to stay on whichever computer the service will run on). How can I do this?

• powertop keeps telling me to turn off the same thing, over and over

  I am running an ubuntu lucid laptop on battery. I want to make my power last as long as possible. Aswell as the normal things like turn down screen brightness, and turn off wifi, I'm using powertop. It will sometimes tell me things, e.g.: Suggestion: Enable USB autosuspend by pressing the U key OK, I press the U key to do that. However a few minutes later it will give me the same suggestion, it's as if it never enabled USB autosuspend the first time. It does this for other things aswell, not just USB autosuspend. e.g. it'll give me this message frequently: An audio device is active 100.0% of the time: hwC0D1 LSI ID 1040 Q - Quit R - Refresh A - Turn HD audio powersave on Is there anything I can do to make these choices 'stick'? Or do I have some unfortunatle hardware that won't obey linux? (If so, is there any way to confirm this?)

• Problem During Installation SQL Server 2005 on Windows 7

   Yesterday I was trying to install SQL Server 2005 on windows 7. During installation a popup error dialog shown with this message: The SQL Server service failed to start. For more information, see the SQL Server Books Online topics, "How to: View SQL Server 2005 Setup Log Files" and "Starting SQL Server Manually. Here is the captured screen: But in books online there was no useful information! After some hours googling, I did not found any useful information and at 3 o'clock of midnight, I was scratching my head! Believe it, I attempted to install SQL Server more than 15 times with different manners (with command prompt & parameters and else). Eventually I found the resource of problem, that was "BitDefender Internet Security 2010"! After uninstalling BitDefender Internet Security, I installed SQL Server 2005 and then reinstalled BitDefender. Just that! Problem resolved. Conclusion: After installing a new version of windows and it's requirements (like IIS and language specifications & else), first install the SQL Server and the Visual Studio and then other applications.Hope be helpful.

• How do I connect to my wireless router settings on Linux?

  My network is as follows: Internet Provider's DSL modem connected to Internet Provider's router connected to My Buffalo Wireless router connected to My Toshiba Laptop via WEP network My Toshiba Laptop is running LMDE Linux Mint Debian Edition Service Pack 3 i686 kernel I have experience using various routers and their configuration settings but for some reason I can not access my wireless router. In my cromium browser I tried the following ip addresses: Standard Usual IPs : 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1 (connection hangs and goes no where) On the back of my router: 192.168.11.1, 192.168.11.100 (connection hangs and goes nowhere ) In some tcpip info: 192.168.24.1 (unable to connect error message) If someone could give me some terminal commands that will help me find my wireless router address or some trouble shooting ideas, I would be very thankful.

  I need to write a parent Java class that classes using recursion can extend. The parent class will be be able to realize whenever the call stack changes ( you enter a method, temporarily leave it to go to another method call, or you are are finsihed with the method ) and then print it out. I want it to print on the console, but clear the console as well every time so it shows the stack horizantaly so you can see the height of each stack to see what popped off and what popped on... Also print out if a baseline was reached for recursive functions. First. How can I using the StackTraceElements and Thread classes to detect automatically whenever the stack has popped or pushed an element on without calling it manually? Second, how would I do the clearing thing? For instance , if I had the code: public class recursion(int i) { private static void recursion(int i) { if( i < 10) System.out.println('A'); else { recursion(i / 10 ); System.out.println('B'); } } public static void main(String[] argv) { recursion(102); } } It would need to print out the stack when entering main(), when entering recursion(102) from main(), when it enters recursion(102 / 10), which is recursion(10), from recursion(102), when it enters recursion(10 / 10), which is recursion(1) from recursion(10). Print out a message out when it reaches the baseline recursion(1).. then print out the stacks of reversed revisitation of function recursion(10), recursion(102) and main(). finally print out we are exiting main().

• Virtual Box fails my OSes :(

  I have a little problem with Virtual Box latest version in which i have installed Mint (also latest version).During creation of a new vdi partition I chose settings as default, that is, I don't create any tiny partitions myself. The installation works. But later while the new OS is running (not in Live mode) I try installing/updating new software available, the system automatically fails, it reports an error of DISKFULL, I close the message box then power off my system. Later on I can't boot it up again anymore. It hangs with a black screen and the PAUSE status. I have no idea why. I have installed 2 OSes and both fail at the same error. I doubt something is not right about the current version of VBox. Thank you . My host OS is Windows7 and my Clients are Mint and CentOS

  Suppose you are apart from the mobile or whatever phone (so can't call 112 or 911 or 999), but have have access to a computer with internet connection. How do you call/message an emergency service (of whatever country in hope they will route the request to the correct destination) using only Internet? Maybe there's some 911-like website or public SIP or whatever? Or better go to some chat/forum/StackExchange/whatever and ask somebody to make a call for you? (will users really believe?) /* 1.   Finally the last CTP and pre-release version for the Composite Services is out. There were quite a lot of changes since CTP1. We added many new samples and many enhancements to the repository (DB) which is now called Inventory in sync with SOA Patterns. Here is a brief list of the main changes according to the included documentations.   Changes and additions in this release This CTP release contains reusable source code and samples to illustrate implementation for the following patterns and scenarios: Repair and Resubmit – this pattern is implemented in ESB Toolkit 2.0 as part of Exception Management Framework (EMF). This code drop provides code sample how to implement this pattern for Windows AppFabric workflow service, using Exceptions Web Service and workflow activities to create fault message, which will be created in EMF database.  Analytic Tracing – this code drop contains reusable code and samples for implementing ETW tracing: event collector service and database that store collected events. This capability may be used for scenarios that need flexibility on how collected events are decoded and processed via extensibility points you can configure and implement:  plugins and event decoders with leveraging ETW tracing capabilities provided by the event collector service.   Inventory Centralization – this code drop contains service catalog database, web services and samples to show how to implement Metadata Centralization, Schema Centralization and Policy Centralization patterns.  Service Virtualization – we included sample for implementing this pattern using WCF routing service( which is part of .NET framework) and service metadata centralization capabilities to define routing service metadata in service catalog. • Unable to call through asterisk

  I want to create a voip service. I have installed asterisk-1.4 on a dedicated remotely hosted debian lenny distro. I made a sip.conf and extensions.conf so as to place a call between two sip phones(i am using xlite 3.0) installed in some other Windows PC. Whenever i switch this phones the asterisk console shows that Registration from '"1000"<sip:[email protected]>' failed for '122.168.10.254' - Peer is not supposed to register Where xx.xx.xx.xx is the server's IP. i.e my sip phones are unable to register with the asterisk server. • Virtualmin Configuration

  I am trying to get Virtualmin setup and have reached a point where my noobish sysadmin skills aren't getting the job done. This is the message I get now when I try and refresh the configuration of Virtualmin. BIND DNS server is installed, and the system is configured to use it. However, the default master DNS server XXXXXX is not a fully qualified domain name. Sendmail is only accepting SMTP connections on the following ports : 127.0.0.1 port smtp. Email from other systems on the Internet will not be accepted. This can be changed in the Sendmail Mail Server module. Please advise what I need to do to get Sendmail configured properly. Thanks!

• How to communicate within a company what is being Continually Deployed

  I work for a small development company, 20 people total in the entire company, 3 in actual development, and we've adopted CD for our commits to trunk, and it works great, from a code management and up-time side. However - we're getting flak from our support staff and marketing department that they don't feel that they're getting enough lead time on new features and notifications on bug fixes that could change behavior. Part of why we love the CD system is for us in development, it's fast, we fix the bug, add the quick feature, close the Bugz and move on with our day to the next item. All members of our company are now on HipChat at all times, and when a deployment occurs, a message is sent to a room that all company members are in, letting them know what was just deployed (it just shows the commit messages from tip back to the last recorded deployment). We in development are also attempting to make sure that when we're making a change that modifies the UI or a public facing behavior, we post a screenshot to the All Company room and explain what the behavior change is, seeking pushback or concerns. Often, the response is silence. Sometimes, it's a few minor questions, but nothing that need stop the deployment from happening. What I'm wondering is how do other users of the CD method deal with notifications of new features and changes to areas of the company that are not development - and eventually on to customers in the world? • Shibboleth: found encrypted assertions, but no CredentialResolver was available

  I've gotten a Shibboleth Server Provider (SP) up and running, and I'm using the TestShib Identity Provider (IdP) for testing. The configuration appears to be all correct, and when I requested my secured directory I was sent to the IdP where I logged in and then was sent back to https://example.org/Shibboleth.sso/SAML2/POST where I am getting a generic error message. Checking the logs, I am told: found encrypted assertions, but no CredentialResolver was available I have rechecked the configuration, and there I have: <CredentialResolver type="File" key="/etc/shibboleth/sp-key.pem" certificate="/etc/shibboleth/sp-cert.pem"/> Both of these files are present at those locations. I've restarted apache and retried, but still get the same error. I don't know if it makes a difference - but only a subdirectory of the site has been secured - the documentroot is publicly available.

• XP Mode in Windows 7 professional recently ceased to work

  I have used Windows XP Mode in Windows Professional 7 once a week for around 2 years to run Quicken 98. About 2 weeks ago the XP Mode completely stopped working. I get different responses when I try to launch. I can sometimes see a launch screen for XP (which I never used to get) which then hangs Sometimes I just get a black screen Sometimes I get an error message in a cmd like interface that says "windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt \system32\ntoskrnl.exe please reinstall a copy of the above file. I have noticed that in the tools tab at the top of the screen "enable integration features" is greyed out. Any recommendations? Ian

• No GUI after upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10 (boots to command line)

  I have just upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10 (network upgrade using the update manager, from 9.04 which had different graphics related problems) and when I try to boot into it all I get a small Ubuntu logo, flickering text and then the tty1 command line with a logon prompt. startx gives following error: Fatal server error: no screens found I traced down a tutorial that said I needed the latest graphics drivers (Gigabyte ATI Radeon 4650 HD installed with 9.10 catalyst drivers) so I did using the 'sh' command and a USB stick (I have a working Windows partition) and it installed fine but did not fix the problem. Edit: Thanks to UK and Arjan van Bentem below I was able to understand the full error message of start x: Parse error on lone 2 of /etc/X11/xorg.conf 'nameserver' is not a valid keyword in this section Fatal server error: no screens found This has nothing to do with a graphical error (sorry if I misled anyone) but the xorg.conf file has 3 lines in it and lines 2-3 have an entry 'nameserver'. Using the nano command I commented out (using a # before the entries) the nameservers and can now boot Ubuntu. Thanks to everyone for their help.

  I would like to email snort alerts from my Debian Lenny fw. Syslog is sending log messages from the firewalls to a central rsyslog. • How to enable services Discovery API in GoogleCL?

  There are bits and pieces of information all over the place but I'm trying to put it all together so that GoogleCL finally accesses more than the initial 7 services. Does anyone know of a step-by-step? Right now any attempt outside these result in the error message: google tasks list Did you specify the service correctly? Must be one of 'picasa', 'blogger', 'youtube', 'docs', 'contacts', 'calendar', 'finance' I installed GoogleCL from the Ubuntu repos, authenticated a few bundled services like contacts, docs etc. and those work great, giving me access to do certain operations like upload from the command line. • Failed pinging a LAN card of the server from the client using shared internet connection

  The server (Windows XP Pro SP3) has two LAN cards (LAN card A and B) and is connected to the internet using ADSL. The ADSL connection is shared to LAN card B using Internet Connection Sharing. The client (Windows XP Pro SP3) has one LAN card, and is connected to LAN card B of the server so that it has access to the internet. The IP address on the LAN cards are defined as follows: Server: LAN card A: 192.168.0.3/24 (manually defined by me) LAN card B: 192.168.0.1/24 (manually defined by Internet Connection Sharing) Client: LAN card: 192.168.0.123/24 (assigned by DHCP) Default gateway: 192.168.0.1 From the server, I can ping 192.168.0.123 successfully. From the client, it can access the internet without any problem. I can also ping 192.168.0.1 successfully but for 192.168.0.3, it failed with the Request Timeout error message. Why did the ping fail, and what should be done to make the ping possible? (all firewalls have been turned off.)

• mime-attachment incompatibility on forwarded messages from android to an iphone

  A couple of guys got the evo android in the office. I got an iphone. When I receive a forwarded email from one of those phones, the forwarded piece comes as a mime-attachment that the iphone cannot open. I also tried this with a motorola droid and got the same result. I am not sure if the issue is the android sending the message on the wrong format or the iphone not being able to understand a mime type that it should... Has anyone experienced this, and, most importantly, found a fix/workaround? Thanks.
